Review The Good Home - New Plymouth

Super friendly staff. Huge restaurant was so surprised it was all one. My partner got the lamb burger and liked it but just thinks it needs a bit less pesto. Good size burgers! I got the chicken burger it was yum but for me it was a bit too saucy. But we still enjoyed them. It was super busy and popular. Will definitely be back when we come back to New Plymouth ❤️

Went here for dinner last night with 2 others. Attentive, friendly service. Food was phenomenal. The sirloin steak was perfectly medium rare, rich mushrooms jus and brocollini was the right amount of crunchy. But oh my God, the mushroom and feta arancini. The best thing I've tasted in a long time. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Although mostly good, the food was a little under-whelming. My chicken dish was dry & tasteless, my daughters mushroom sauce was lacking in mushroom, but her steak was cooked to perfection & my grandsons crispy potato dish was somewhat lacking in the crispy bits - again his steak was cooked perfectly. Overall I would not eat there again.

Came her for a 21st dinner. Cute lil open area to sit 30 people round about. I ordered myself a pork belly with lentils, kale and vanilla cauliflower puree. I think the pork belly was done perfectly. I wasn't to satisfied with the crackle as it was very chewy and not so crackley. The vanilla cauliflower puree did not compliment the dish at all I thought it was too sweet and tasted more like a dessert. However, the lentils and kale were beautiful together. My son had a Hawaiian pizza which was decent. And my partner had a beef burger with a side of fries. The burger was nice and the chips were nice too. We ordered a garlic bread loaf which was delicious with a side of pesto. I tried the wings which were delicious. The service was okay but when we asked for some more water, it never came. They were possibly understaffed so I don't want to jump to too much conclusions. All in all, the dinning was okay for me.

Went there last Saturday after arriving in New Plymouth as our Motor Lodge had a Menu and it was great, decent tasty steak aswell as Fish’ n’ Chips. Friendly and helpful staff rounded the day up just fine. Very reasonable good prices aswell ( won’t cost you an arm and a leg ). Anytime again cheers

The Monday night $15 burgers were fabulous and the meat lovers pizza was just perfect. Service was spot on. Attentive but not obtrusive. Hidden gem here. Should be world famous.

Went there for dinner yesterday around 8.15 pm without booking and they were very accommodating. We tried the chicken burger and the stuffed shells, everything was delicious. Thanks!

I have had the best dinning experience at the Good Home last Friday thanks to the wonderful staff Kim. I walked in around 4:20pm and was hoping I can have an early meal sorted before picking up my daughter finishes her ballet class at 5pm. Kim politely told me dinner starts at 5 but she was willing to talk to the kitchen for me so I could sit down and eat. Swiftly she got back to me and got a table for me & my son. And I have my order in right the way. While waiting for my food (Surf & Turf sticks) , my 5 yrs-old needed the toilet(typical!) so we went & when we came back Kim was there looking after my food. She was there making sure my prawns weren’t overlooked on the hot stone. She’s just so wonderful! And she is aware I had to eat quickly and she’s always there ready for help. When I finished she said “ now you still got time to pick up your daughter :) ” What can I say!? Food at Good Home was as great as usual but the experience with Kim’s amazing service has definitely brought the dining experience to next level. Thank you Kim & Good Home!

A great outdoor patio, fantastic portion sizes (except the tiramisu and veggie stone plate), great pricing on the burgers and the fish and chips! The stone grille items were a wee bit expensive, as well as the desserts (the churros were worth it though, the tiramisu was not).

My dish was salmon #ceviche with mandarin segments and purple micro herbs. Chickpea salad and Caesar salad was also very popular. Lovely catch up in a good environment. Nice food! Our chocolate cake was so delicious

Came here with three others while we were in town on business. The staff were friendly and helpful. I ordered the fish and chips which was plentiful and delicious. Another ordered the rolled chicken breast which he said was huge and really good. Another ordered the lamb which he says he orders all the time since it is so good. Nice choice of beers and all very reasonably priced. Good casual place to eat and drink.

Hands down the best feed we have had in the last 4 nights. Great staff. Great space. Great specials. If we had have eaten here on our first night we would have just eaten here every night. High value for money, really recommend. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment as it gets busy. Walking past on the other nights the good home has always been pumping. Music upstairs may be a bit loud but downstairs was nice and quiet. Stop reading and just go get a feed!

Despite the construction going on we thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. We had the mussels in wine cream sauce to start with. She had a pinot gris and I had sauvignon blanc. The mussels were great and the server offered us extra bread for the sauce which was really moorish. I went with the lamb back strap. Delicious. Perfectly cooked and loved the beetroot with edamame spread around the plate. She had the duck risotto. She enjoyed it and took some home. Banana fritters for dessert for me while Miss chose the lava cake. Blown away with both and packed up some for home because of the generous servings so far. Service was excellent, food stands up under scrutiny and so at the end of the day the construction didn't matter. Well priced and worth it.

Love the roof top bar, good atmosphere and great pizza although I think $28.50 is crazy for 3 teeny tiny sliders.
