Review Big Jims Garden Cafe - New Plymouth

This is a lovely cafe with a huge range of cabinet food and a good range of menu food. I have found some of the cabinet food to be a bit dry, but I have had their wedges off the menu, and they were top-tier!! Probably best wedges I've had at a cafe which is saying a lot. Toilets and plenty of parking on site. Small playground for kiddies and very pretty garden to sit in.

Such a wonderful place to have brunch, lunch even breakfast. Customer service is absolutely amazing, kind people and very considerate. Best customer service I've seen. The food was absolutely tasty. The eggs benni was falling, tasting with crispy bacon and delicious hollandaise sauce, yolky egg on hash. I also ordered French Toast with banana, vanilla custard and maple syrup. Thus was to die for the only downfall was that the toast wasn't soaked through with egg. But it was delicious. I had a Mocha bowl which was fantastic great start to the meal. My cousin had wedges which were perfectly crunchy and fluffy. There was abit.of spice but not too much which was great and blended well. My sister has cheese onion toastie which was yummy and crunchy with a side of salad. We didn't have to wait very long for our food 10-15 min which is perfect. I recommend Big Jim's Cafe to everyone. Plenty of parking and there is a outdoor seating which is magnificent. They have GF options on fave food options.

GET IN TO BIG JIMS AND ORDER THE AVO SMASH...! Best thing I've eaten in weeks, right down to the beautiful oil around the edge of your plate and the roasty dukah. 10/10... The new owners know what they are doing. 😄 Thank you!

Food is good, would have enjoyed corn and chickpea fritters without chickpeas, no flavour

Still great a great place to relax and enjoy the food surroundings plus you can have those private conversations with your friends and family. It is a great place for the business get together to fellowship with colleagues.

Had the salmon roulade and a coffee. Very nice!!!! Awkward asking for tip tho when the food so expensive 😬😬😬😬😬😬 coffee was REALLY good 👍

Had a delicious lunch here today. The Chefs special bbq pork belly burgers with apple slaw and crisps. Soooo good!! Gorgeous presentation of food and lovely friendly staff!

Best seafood chowder!!! We have tried many throughout NZ and this is definitely one of the best. Highly recommend stopping to enjoy the garden centre and cafe.

Today my brother and I wanted to meet up for a cuppa and found Big Jim's Cafe the only cafe in our area that was open. It has been a long while since my last visit there. We walked in and were treated with respect courtesy and attention that made us feel like we were the only customers around. The service was excellent , the food is delicious and although customers were arriving quickly we were not disturbed at all. Thank you Natahn Jade and the team at the back. We'll be back x 5/5 for you!

Excellent cafe with A class food and service. The staff is very efficient and welcoming. The outside area has quite a few tables and chairs, an interesting water feature and a playground area for kids. Everything is enclosed so parents can eat, drink and relax while their restless kids play. Perfect for good weather. There is ample parking outside although it can get jam packed sometimes because the Garden Centre is attached to the cafe and is very popular.

The service here is good and we did not wait too long before getting our food. The well made dishes are tasty and well priced. The seating is good and there are couches. This is a good place to go in good weather (and out of good weather) because the views are pretty. The menu is excellent and the hot drinks are good.

On the ride home I felt like a hot drink so my family and I stopped in and ordered 2 coffees (mocha & latte) with 2 fluffy's for our kids. Café was busy with it being Easter weekend, so our hot drinks took about 6 minutes to make, the staff who were working were not friendly at all. Wouldn't a smile given be at least returned? Didn't feel welcomed at all and such poor service was a let down to such a nice looking café. And not to mention the coffee was terrible, I wouldn't have minded waiting for a good cup of coffee. Next time we won't be stopping there again.

Was not impressed.  Went to sit on chair which had not been maintained hadn't even put my weight on it and it collapsed with me falling on top of it.  I saw the screws all loose.  One staff member was great and helped me up while another laughed at me - glad I entertained you love, it was embarrassing enough with that.  I would hate to think what would have happened if it had been at elderly person, I had a sore back and neck all day along with a headache from the jarring.  I would have thought they should have filled out an incident report.  Still had to pay for my meal and everything.  Really caring place - not!!  and food was average dry cake

Popped in for a coffee last weekend. Coffees were weak and overpriced for the size. We also had to put up with some of the staff members smoking near the children's play area so not impressed and won't be back.

Today I ordered an open chicken sandwich, which comes with onion rings and fries. It was the worst thing I have tasted in a while, everything tasted of fish, I had to cut open an onion ring to see if it was onion or fish. The chicken, though perfectly cooked, was spoiled because of the fishy taste.
