Review Clarence Rd Eatery - Northcote

2Apr22 1413 Just leaving after 2 hours of talking with a friend, a large flat white and a takeaway cup super hot, great coffee!, and a salad .. so fresh and tasty! Great table service! So you pay at the end of your refreshments or meal! And is it one of the owners? Or is it the maitre d? Anyway, it comes around to the table it just asks how you are... Really nice ... Really friendly! Five star recommendation from me. Thank you Clarence Road Eatery.

A nice boutique location, and great menu for you to choose from, including the cabinet food. If it gets busy, you may need to remind them, but they'll make up for it by comping or providing some treats for you. A massive plus, is it is directly next door to the local movie cinema and has a side entrance. Either get a feed before the flick, or after, and then a drink!

It was our 6 year old’s birthday and we went for her birthday family dinner. Great value pizza deal which was also delicious, and attentive and thoughtful service. Thanks for making her evening with her cupcake surprise :)

Great evening experience for a Monday night. Staff were polite and professional and the meal was excellent. The pork belly and sweet potato were both done really well. Burger was so big that it made the bun almost redundant. Reasonably priced and a great ambience. Surprisingly busy for a Monday too which created a nice atmosphere to enjoy. Will be returning.

It was our first time here this morning. Got greeted at the door. Everyone was smiling. Perfect coffees. The breakfast was so so yummy. And the service was impeccable. We will be back. Highly recommended.

Have been here a few times for dinner and food is very delicious, the panfried fish, soup and lamb meatballs yum. The service could be better though as I don't find it that is consistent. Last night they missed to tell us the soup and special of the day. Only when I asked I got to listen what the soup was. Also they sit us at the back which was fine but one of the waitress was then drying the cutlery just behind us and was very noisy. If those tables have customers they should be more considered.

Only went in for a scone and a coffee, but nice scone, and good coffee. Friendly staff. Interesting area. Enjoyed the morning.

Great little spot. The menu options are surprisingly interesting for an Italian place. Cool vibe. My only real complaint was the barista didn't seem to know how to handle almond milk in coffee. Pizza was delicious.

They serve amazing coffee all the time! The pizza was tasty. Hidden gem of Northcote Point!

Tasteless food and smoothie. Long wait times and not very attentive staff. Atmosphere feels neither warm nor welcoming

It was bad timing when we visited this place. That day guys were working on installing something using a ladder with a opening ceiling.

We couldn't get to the table which we wanted to have a seat. While eating, we felt uneasy watching the workman's legs on the ladder 😓

There ware not many choices available from the cabinet for sweet stuff.

Attached to the cinema so obviously great location if you’re heading to see a movie there.
The restaurant is beautifully designed and the staff are lovely
The food was delicious
Here I had the charred broccoli, bacon and parsnip purée. It was delicious!!

This place is average as. Been here multiple times and every time I leave, I leave disappointed and disheartened.

Service is average, no enthusiasm just dead behind the eyes. No one wants to take your order, takes about 20 minutes of waiting before you have to get up and order at the counter even though it’s table service.

Food wise usually isn’t too bad, not amazing or anything, usually it’s not to bad. However I had a pizza the last time I was there that was terrible, the base was soggy, undercooked and just lacked flavour. The place wasn’t busy so there was no chance that this was an under pressure thing.

The only good thing I can say about this place is the coffee, been a long time in the community I often am up at funny hours so having a good coffee is essential to my work, this is the only saving grace of this place otherwise I just wouldn’t return.

In conclusion I will only return to have a coffee on the go while I get back to “looking out” for the local community.

TL;DR

Coffee good, everything else is crap

Avoid. I was a huge fan of the Sausalito when it was open, and after a long wait I finally saw the Clarence Rd Eatery open up. Gone were the homely polished wooden tables, replaced instead by clinical white operating tables. Also gone were the warm colours, replaced by sterile white tiles and lots of blue (because blue is always a colour to associate with food, not). Anyway, the atmosphere of the old Sausalito had evaporated completely, and while this was a huge disappointment, the menu was okay, but now far more expensive for no apparent reason. The Sausalito, my favourite cafe in the area, now became a place I could get a coffee in the sun, where I also had to put up with the lack of atmosphere. There was always a table outside that was salvageable from the terrible decisions made by the owners. Whatever. I at least had that. Until today.
I sat down at my table outside and the bland music I used to avoid inside is now being piped outside, right above my head, at the table that was the only nice part left of my cafe experience. Even if the music was music that I enjoyed I still wouldn't want it piped right above my head. The staff weren't able to turn it off, and so this created a situation by which I had one choice: put up with the horrendously vanilla muzak, or leave. I chose to leave. I was looking forward to finishing a walk and having a dairy free smoothie in the sun at my favourite table (looking at the sea and away from the cafe mistakes of the owners), but now that has gone too.
Billy is a slightly above average cafe, but now that's the only option around here. It doesn't have the sun in the mornings, but at least it gets some things right. To the owners: You took a perfectly good cafe, nay, a great cafe, and you made it literally repulsive.

Sausalito - Great name, nice music, nice colours, warm, friendly, excited staff, a buzz in the air, quiet outside, groovy inside, reasonable prices, atmosphere, easily a cafe favourite.
Clarence Rd Eatery - Terrible name, terrible music, sterile colours, cold, unfriendly to the point of appearing elitist, dull unenthusiastic staff (with the exception of one dimple-faced smiley guy who seems to be the manager, but he doesn't make up for the tall slouching hangdog waiter or the rest of the uninterested staff they've chosen), no buzz, and now no escape from the crap muzak, too expensive, absolutely no atmosphere, and now not a cafe I will ever go to again.

What a wasted opportunity this was. I could live with being very disappointed, but the new outside speakers took away literally the only good thing left about that place, and now I'm completely disappointed. What. A. Waste. Of what was once a terrific cafe. Such a shame.

So good.. We went to beach at northcote point and we found this lovely cafe restaurant. They food was good we had fish of the day and omelettes but what I love in this place is yummy dessert that I had today. That made me take away some more fruits tart go back home with me too. Good weather and yummy food.

I’ve popped in twice this week for takeaway coffee. Coffee is great however customer service is lacking. Customers like to be acknowledged at the very least.

Awesome food, great atmosphere. Sat outside so I could smoke and it was a bit cold so one of the girls asked if I wanted the outside heaters on. Very attentive with great service. The beef cheek was absolutely falling apart while still maintaining its shape.. very impressed, will definitely be back to sample more of the menu

Meals were satisfactory, beef pies and a fish and chips. Been there 20 mins before offered a drink- a missed sales opportunity. Another missed sales chance- we asked if it was possible to have cold dessert in the 15-20 mins remaining before our movie and was told no. Not a busy time for them either. One of the sales staff was pretty good, the other we found not that great. If it wasn't next to the Bridgeway I don't think I would go.

Me and my Girlfriend had an amazing experience in this cafe/restaurant and was the perfect way to start the date with it being followed by a movie next door. The food was delicious, the atmosphere totally relaxed, and the staff fantastic. We ate the soup of the day which was a minestrone packed full of flavour and beauty and topped it off with a chocolate brownie which I must say is one of the best and biggest I’ve had from a cafe, definitely worth the trip. Will be back for dinner service and a big ol pizza. Clarence road eatery keep doing what you’re doing!!

Great breakfast at Clarence Road Cafe - the eggs benedict served on Potato Rosti was amazing, and the eggs were poached well with a tasty hollandaise sauce. The orange juice was fresh and tasty and the coffee I had after was well prepared. A good spot in Northcote Point for breakfast and would definitely be back!

Shaky start but definitely on the improve. A very enjoyable summer early dinner pizza and drink with great service and reasonably priced.

Same for a breakfast - it would have been unfair to review after the first visit shortly after it opened.

Good service, interesting food and improved coffee means we will be back
We had a very enjoyable early family supper on Christmas Eve. Clarence Rd eatery is a really stylish and relaxing space, the staff were friendly and attentive and the menu is innovative, tasty and varied. The service was prompt and responsive. My Tarakihi was beautifully cooked - and undoubtedly the best meal I had during my 2 week stay in New Zealand.
I can not recommend this eatery more highly - superb!
Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The staff taking orders is abrupt, rude and has a very unfriendly demeanor, with a displeased scowl on her face, looked at me like she thinks I can't pay for the 21 dollars that included a small banana loaf, 2 small capuccinos, and an overheated and slightly burnt breakfast bun, that is so tough, that one is guaranteed to choke if not careful and we even asked for a glass of water. Luckily, there was one staff, could be the owner, was very friendly, and accommodating, asked for our opinion, which I happily gave. Hopefully, service will be much improved after today.
A friend and I shared the walnut and pear pizza. One of the worst pizzas I have ever eaten. It was dry- especially considering it had 4 cheeses. It had absolutely no flavour- we had to douse it with salt and pepper and olive oil to make it half palatable. It had slices of fresh pear on top that also had no flavour at all. The previous restaurant made much better pizzas. Pity the ownership has changed. Definitely won't go there again!

Took the family of five for lunch today. The beef burger was to die for, the best I've ever had! The pizzas, especially the seafood one were amazing and priced well. The Stafford Rd Wine was delicious and a bargain at $7.50 glass. Service was friendly and very efficient.
Decor is light and modern.
A great addition to the local neighbourhood. We can't wait to go back next weekend!

We ordered from the breakfast menu, which was interesting, but somewhat restricted. The food was average (quite greasy, and lacking flavour) ... and the service was a bit over bearing. the renovations to the place were great though, it was light and airy.
