Wonderful friendly service, and warm cosy atmosphere. The large coffees are HUGE and only $6. I also had a Chai and a delicious caramilk fugde slice. Worth a stop if your going through Oamaru. Thank you 😊

We came here for an early morning coffee and scone, staff were friendly and happy to open up when we arrived a few minutes before opening. The frittata was a touch expensive, but it was delicious and filled me up. Coffee was good, perfect temperature, your classic cafe coffee. I will be back here in the future, thanks The Roost!

This is only one coffee shop opened in the early Sunday morning near Brydone Hotel. We want to try something different and apparently it was a good choice. Benedict egg muffin is nice and my daughter was happy for her free fluffy and cake

We so enjoyed this sweet local coffee shop. We were in town visiting for an extended stay and enjoyed starting many days here. Owner is so kind and personal and we always enjoyed our drinks and treats… and our daughter loved the fluffys which we don’t get in the states. It was a fun treat. We highly recommend this spot for your coffee or a quick breakfast. The savory scones and Eggs Benedict were lovely too. Highly recommend.

visited in a busy time. I wanted to have here, but it was almost time to go, so I had no choice to change it to take away. It's a pity that I used disposable cup, but it's a lovely place and nice coffee.

A simple cafe which produces excellent coffee and breakfast. The pancakes were light and fluffy with lots of banana, walnuts and caramel sauce. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon rashes were just right. Egg yolks were thick and deep yellow - fresh and grass fed. We would go back just for the pancakes. Black coffee was served with hot water on the side without asking. The Roost provided the best breakfast we have had in 12 days in NZ.

Nice place to have breakfast in this quiet town. The food is pretty descent and the interior deco of the cafe is quite modern yet cozy.

The coffee here is very good. The food choice in the cabinet is okay - for a hungry visitor. Staff regularly seem a little reserved here, but my latest visit at the beginning of June has some really friendly staff on, and I wasn’t made to feel like a stranger.

I'm base in Auckland and I was here with my granddaughter last week on a holiday and I must say the service was excellent. The food was worth what you pay for. The staff were so friendly and very professional. Thank you for making us feel welcome. Keep up the great work🥰

Went here for labour day Sunday brunch. Due to unforeseen circumstances they were short staffed (only two staffers) We had to wait for our coffee and meals but staff did so well under pressure (even very kindly and professionally dealing with a disgruntled customer!!) great food, good coffee, and great friendly service despite being under pressure. Thank you girls. You did well 💞

Hi there,We have heard mixed reviews about your café so we thought we should try it for ourselves. Unfournately we were highly disappointed in every aspect of our experience. Although the kitchen food was good the atmosphere and the service from the staff was disappointing. The man making the coffee was very rude. I definitely wont be coming back.

For anybody wanting a decent cup of coffee in Oamaru, I suggest they steer clear of the Roost. The coffee was weak and very milky. I wished I had have ordered a short black, for my caffeine fix.
I ordered a bacon & cheese croissant from the lovely lady that worked there, and when she asked the older man working with her, where something on the till was, he was extremely rude to her in front of me.
I will never go back to The Roost, the owners clearly do not respect their staff or even try to create a nice atmosphere in the cafe.
Thankfully later in the day I found a cafe called Short Black, with a beautiful menu and a perfect flat white coffee.

Roost has a great relaxed atmosphere, great magazines, and really tasty food. A very good range of food including gluten free options. Clean toilets, great coffee, nice staff.
