Review Out Of Order - Tapas - Craft Beer And Gin Bar - Ohakune

My wife have eaten in a lot of restaurants in many cities in many countries and this one beats most of them. This restaurant was a real unexpected find in a small rural New Zealand town. The food was genuinely incredible. We loved the decor which was really quirky and original. The staff were lovely and very friendly. The selection of guns was really impressive as a speciality thing. The kitchen is completely on show so you get to see everything being cooked. The owner and main chef said hello to us. The guy is talented and has high standards. Took a few photos. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Who would have thought you’d find a place like this in a town like Ohakune?! The owner chef has international experience and has now brought it here. His food is really very good. My photos don’t do the dishes justice - we just had to tuck in and I kept forgetting to take snaps! Calamari was my favourite and lamb was partner’s. Really enjoyed the ‘theatre’ of the open kitchen. And if I still drank alcohol I would have been in beer and gin heaven. Such a small place keeping such big lists is a delight. Bill was NZ$100 for two (admittedly without alcoholic drinks). Excellent value - get down there before the prices go up!

A wonderful surprise. We had a delightful and very delicious meal here. A nice variety of plates, great gin selection and wonderfully prepared all around. Service was excellent. Would dine here again!

Amazing little high end restaurant with extremely good food (Tapas themed) and exceptional staff. The lady that served us was next to perfect in her delivery not to mention the amazing gin selection she had!! Can't recommend highly enough!!!

The Blind Finch is a must visit bakery in Ohakune. With tasty sandwiches on sourdough bread, pies, burgers or savouries to satisfy your taste buds. There is surely something for everyone. We were not able to try out their burgers this time, but will surely be back next time we are in town

BEST chicken burger ever, and great service. Be prepared to wait, because they do get busy, but you will not regret it. Generous helpings and very tasty food with a good selection of drinks. Five star, highly recommended. My husband and I will be back! Keep up the awesome work guys.

One of the best burgers I have had. Juicy, flavourful and reasonably priced. Only issue was the lack of a side portion of fries. I'd be more than happy to pay 3-4 dollars for a side of fries rather than 8 for a two person serving.

The food was fantastic, not the old burger place but a high quality tapas restaurant now. It was a bit of a surprise to us that they don't serve any tea or have any milk with the coffee.

Probably better than any pie I tried in Auckland, especially the classic mince/cheese pies. The gourmet pies were good but the classics are what I'd suggest. This is exactly what a small town needed, a great combination of burgers (with vegan options) and a bake house. Even without any competition the quality was excellent.

Great service and interesting decor. Burgers are varied and have something for everyone. My Burger of hummus was very nice and the kamikazi chips had a very nice combination of sauces. Well worth it if you feel like a burger.

Relax place where you can enjoy a good and special craft beer and different burgers. I had the vega fallafal burger that tasted very good. And fries were fresh and homemade. The best we ate in NZ. Friendly, helpful people who advice you witch beer you whould like to drink.

Nice place I was there didn't try the burgers as 10 and 15 a bit expensive for a traveller having bingo on a wed good idea I won a eggs Benedict burger which I tryed today for lunch was very nice very friendly staff but beer at 10 was to expensive for a traveller as well dearer than a bar

Having tried the whole menu now (more than once)... its safe to say that the Blind Finch makes delicious burgers that are the best I've ever had. Hard to pick a favourite, they're all pretty unique and tasty. The fries menu is equally as amazing, the Poutine Fries are def my go to. Excellent craft beer, cider and wine list, the cocktails are epic too (cheers Ricardo). The staff are friendly and always smiling and helpful. Always enjoy my visits there! Love your work team! Keep it up!

Just opposite the Fire Station in Ohakune, great spot, nice and central...licensed and cooking til late...Only had the kid's burger and most days that will do me for a meal but still very filling and tasty, a good blend of flavours that lingered well past the last bite. Enjoyed my chat with Derek as much as my burger...always good to see a new start-up in the district and one doing well. Definitely a good spot for a lunch or dinner snack around the southern mountain...heard the Eggs Benedicti and pretty good so will be trying the brunch menu next time...

Great selection, made our 10 person order including one (me) vegan burger. All were well made and fresh. Definitely recommend will be back next time I'm in Ohakune!

First time there and they were packed. We got seated straight away and our meals didn’t take. Amazing food amazing staff

Really great gourmet burgers and fries. Definitely worth it. Dined here Saturday and Sunday after big days on the mountain and we left happy and full. Really friendly staff. �

The burgers are fantastic (I would definitely recommend trying one of the Asian inspired ones) and the staff are lovely.

Fantastic to be back at The Blind Finch. Burgers were amazing (Saigon Smile, Stallion, Aotearoa and Kids Cheeseburger) chips were great and service friendly and attentive. They’re now the Craft Beer/Cider capital of The Central Plateau too - stocking an awesome selection of craft beer and cider. Great job Derek and Team. The Finch just gets better and better.

Great place all round! Got quick response to FB message regarding dietary requirements. Service with a smile when we arrived, and the Tandoori Chicken Burger and fries were to die for. Pity we are not in the area longer...

My partner is crying as he eats your bacon and egg butty sandwich.<br/><br/>We were going to wait to eat it later on our roadtrip but couldn't resist eating the whole thing after the first bite.<br/><br/>The head baker (?) was incredibly friendly - he must've heard that my nickname is Princess Bread 😂. When we came in today, he showed us their sourdough starters, let me try a bit of the marinated artichoke before I committed to the sandwich, and just had great banter all round.<br/><br/>We also came here for burgers last night and that was incredible. We got the OMG burger, Voulez-vous burger and truffle fries. Perfect way to end a day at the slopes.<br/><br/>We're excited to dig into the three loaves of bread (ciabatta, pumpkin seed and standard sourdough), the steak and cheese pie and 12 inch pork and fennel sausage roll we just bought too!<br/><br/>Freshly baked bread and sandwiches in the morning / afternoon, and then burgers in the evening are a must have for anyone coming to Ohakune. <br/><br/>Thanks for the fantastic product and service!!

A really nice place for burger and chips. Both have different variety and flavours so it can get a bit overwhelming. Most of the burgers I've had here are nice so you probably can't go too wrong. The burgers come in 2 sizes. It is the same with the chips and their different flavours. A decent portion of chips and the toppings are also fairly generous. We came with a fairly large party and waited at the bar before the large booth opened up. The drinks menu is interesting as it was on the back of a vinyl cover. The only dessert option was ice cream so it would be nice if they came up with dessert burgers.<br/>Friendly crew and tasty food so not a bad option for lunch or dinner.

I am not a burger lover to start with but i really enjoy the gourmet burgers here. Patty were chargrilled perfectly and still juicy inside. Burger sauces are unique and the wholemeal bun is soft and spongy. I have to say it is the best i ever had. Burgers are themed to international flavours so no matter where you are from, you are sure to be able to find what taste suits you best. Only shortcoming is fries were overcooked.<br/><br/>Match your burger with very wide selection of craft beers and fresh brew coffee to complete your tasting buds. Will visit here again for sure.
