What great little place . Coffee was delicious and my free range scrambled eggs, spinach and mushrooms (no Bread) by request, was beautifully cooked. Thank you for a flavorsome breakfast. Check out the photos of the toilet, how cool is that.

Lovely scones really soft, nice pies but sadly not really home made as they use cans for the vegetarian pie. Really original atmosphere and friendly staff.

I just stopped for a takeaway coffee, but people were dining in a large group and the food looked very presentable. Two young ladies were sitting on a cool old couch out front, and when the smoothies arrived, they looked very happy. The service was very friendly.

This is the place to go in Okato. No question! Friendly, homely owners. Coffee always works. Quirky interior, and if you want outside seating you can have it. I've stopped here a few times and have always enjoyed the vibe. Last time was on the way home from a group ride to the lighthouse, and 45 minutes here absolutely sorted us and put us on the road (in the train) rejoicing.

Super cute little café. Really good coffee (not that easy to find in a lot of small towns!). Great outdoor area with shady spots under the tree canopy - very cool!

We loved the energy of Okato on the coast road from New Plymouth to Whanganui. It was early but we missed out on the mince pies and had to settle for the beef (delicious). The pies were made onsite and delicious as was the sausage rolls, pastry was firm yet crumbly, light and buttery, great coffee. No photos because all were inhaled. The cafe was humming and local people kept piling in.

This is what I look for in cafes. Great coffee? Check. Interesting atmosphere? Check. Friendly (and slightly quirky / interesting) staff? Check. Downtown Okato Cafe is a refreshing change of the blandness of a world that has normalised Starbucks. If you are in New Plymouth, it's worth a drive. If you don't drink coffee, try the food. And sure to visit the toilet...

You don’t often find a place like this small cafe where everything is done creatively and with love. Delicious food, wonderful coffee and cozy atmosphere.
