Review Gleway Cafe - Onehunga

We had the chicken and mushroom quesadilla and the french toast. Food was very tasty and great portion for the pricing! The atmosphere was warm and cozy, although the bathroom was a bit dirty. Would definitely recommend for a good cheap eat on a rainy day. ~$15 per person

I think this place is aiming to get more customers by lowering the prices. In terms of the food quality, it was good. We will be back for more. I do prefer this place than the Vietnamese place next door

Fabulous service and awesome food and really good prices

Very simple and cosy cafe. Great prices. Feedback given on day about updating website as per old prices were shown. Otherwise, as usual, a good experience again

Great tasting food. Amazing iced coffees. Very kind staff. Generous portions. Price is very reasonable too. What else one needs?

Love this place. You get what you order. Old school good. No frills, no drama. Good prices, good food.

Friendly staff and yummy cappuccino. The Gleway Cafe was my quick refuge after being wrestled by the unrelenting weather. Excited to come back to try their other menu 😊

Good value big breakfast. Considering for almost the same meal it is $12 more expensive at my local cafe. Friendly staff and delicious food

First time coming here and had lunch, I remember I came here the other day with my mum and had lunch here, the customer service was very good and the food taste delicious. I do recommend everyone to come and try out this place.

Good value meals, big breakfast for $11.50 is a good deal for what I got, I also added creamy mushrooms at $2.50 and what I got was about a tablespoon on thinly sliced mushroom which I felt was small. Coffee wasn't that great. Sat in the back dining area with my family, happy that there was a small play area. Back dining room needs a clean, doesn't look like it gets taken care of.

Best Cafe in Auckland if you are on a budget. Delicious food, cheapest prices and massive portions. I can't believe it...what a find! Really recommend!
I had the spicy chicken cajun salad & mocha frappe. Both were really yummy! Frappe wasn't to over sweet, I really enjoyed. would recommend this place!!

Located in the heart of Onehunga this cafe has been a family favourite for late week breakfasts for years. But that was before, before when the big breakfast was under $10, before Dressmart came along and gave us more options for cheap and quality fresh food. They still had the big breakfast but was it worth the $11.50? - you get your basic 1x sausage, 2 pieces of toast, 2x eggs cooked to preference, 2 pieces of bacon and 1x hashbrown. Our drinks came out pretty fast but our food took some time and there was a longer wait to get all our meals out when they did finally start arriving. Cold soggy toast, rubbery sausage, the hashbrown was almost rock hard, I ordered my eggs scrambled and cooked through, it arrived undercooked and literally dripped off my fork and the bacon was bland. It's been awhile since we've been back for breakfast and it'll be awhile longer before i go back...and only for sentimental reason.

Had brunch the other day. Got the burger great price great taste would recommend it. Good crisp service friendly staff will definitely be returning.

Came here for lunch, ordered the chicken avocado burger with fries. Only $10.50, excellent value for a delicious home-cooked style meal. Wholesome and great value. Will be returning

There are very few restaurants where i can get my kind of Flat white and this one of them . The big breakfast tastes like a homemade food and i prefer to try different combination with eggs, mushroom, bacon, sausages( yummy) each time i come here. The prices are quite reasonable and service is good ( 10-12 minutes during peak hours ).

Must try: Lamb Loin chops ,Sirloin Steak

Very good value; in fact, they could probably get away with minimising their portions a little! For $7.50 was not expecting such huge pancakes but I got them, and they were nice. Just huge!

Staff were good too, though mixed up our orders with another customer's. Not a big deal though, as the gentleman serving us was so nice.

Had to screenshot bc I didn't have a picture, but this is the eggs benedict. It was quite nice given that it was only $10.90, so I definitely like this place for their prices, given that normal cafe fare can be up to $25pp. Can definitley say they weren't stingy with the hollandaise sauce, but maybe went a little bit overboard. In general though, it was creamy but maybe a bit too tangy for my taste. I also ordered a chocolate frappe which wasn't anything special, but two others that I went with said their coffees were nice. All in all, I would still come back here, seeing that other reviewers are saying their toasted sandwiches are nice (:

Used to be a regular here until they changed owners about 5 months ago. Food is always great, i think the chef stayed on, and it is good bang for your buck. But we found the service dwindled (getting orders mixed up, being unattentive, serving others that arrived after us)and we wont be returning.

All I can say is the food is value for money! I decided to go on a carb adventure and ordered garlic bread and ham pineapple onion toastie. It all tasted pretty good and it was really cheap too! Bang for buck and the service is good too! Not bad for a hidden gem in onehunga!

Have become somewhat of a regular here.
If you're looking for that cheap home made taste this is the go too place.
My favourites here are chicken and avacado burger and the chicken toastie (cheap too!)
Ones i avoid is the peach tea (too sweet) and big breakfast (plain as)
If you're looking for high quality though i would not reccomend but if you are looking for wholesome good value this is go to. Normally never have to slend over $20 here for food and coffee.
Love that this cafe has a local feel to it.
Service is on point to, although not as great as it used to be.

Lovely workers here . 😁💜
Very good service, they even gave my girl a free choc egg which was kind .

Foods pretty yummy , big portions so we both left with take away containers . Pretty tidy relaxed atmosphere

I had their BLT toasted sandwich with a side of fries and it was delicious. 😍 This little cafe is comfortable and the workers are very hospitable. Definitely going back to try out some of the other Menu items.

Cheap and cheerful! Located on the busy main strip, this place is pretty big with heaps of space for a group lunch. The menu has a good variety of both breakfast and brunch options.

We ordered the Big breakfast $10.50 and a flat white. Both were nice and tasty, although the toast was plain white bread which was a slight disappointment to what we are used to (mixed grain or ciabatta). The service was good and they were accommodating and friendly greeting everyone. This cafe isn't as flash but for the price and size of the meals, it's well suited for a quick casual bite. Would like to go back again to try there burgers out.

This is without a doubt my favourite cafe in all of Auckland. The staff are lovely and remeber you when you come in. The food is amazing with their burgers tasting like I remeber burgers tasting as a kid in small town New Zealand. As odd as it may sound at first the Chicken Mushroom Pancake is also great.

Cheap, fast and tasty. Those are probably the words that describe this cafe best. Your expectations should not be very high if you are only paying $10 for Eggs Benedict or a Chicken and Avocado burger with fries. The venue is a little outdated but its very clean. Great place to go for a quick brunch or sandwich before or after shopping. I will for sure go back.

Came here to try out another one of Onehunga's many cafes.

Fairly basic and standard cafe, very clean and minimal decor with about 2-3 staff working. Although the service was a bit off and the lady at the counter had very basic English - had to tell her how I wanted the eggs and what toast with the Big Breakfast but got no response whether she heard/understood me. I got the eggs benedict and had to tell her I wanted it with bacon as she didn't seem to ask what kind I wanted either.

It's seemingly popular with the locals as it was a little busy when we came in and when we left. Although the food is pretty average and the price reflects the quality; it's not a cafe you should avoid - it'd be a great value for money if you're looking for an easy meal.

Lady at counter could not work register. Did not ask how I would like my eggs with my big breakfast. Food was average. Wouldn't go back or recommend to people. Price was ok, but I guess that reflected on the food and service received.

Walked pass this cafe craving for breakfast. Big breakfast at $9.90 was very nice, basic and worth the $. Staff very warm. Coffee was made well too. Cappucino dbl shot. Enjoyed it.

Back again one year later; still a very extensive menu with good portion sizes, friendly staff, fast service and great prices.

Feb 2013. This place has a very extensive menu and it took my daughter and I at least 15 minutes to read all the boards on the walls and decide what we were having ! Friendly and patient staff who didn't rush us. Food arrived promptly and the coffee and iced coffee were good. A great 'no frills, value for money' place.

April 2018 and things have changed here. Coffee is still good but there is no love on the plate. I ordered the wedges with bacon, cheese and sour cream. A tablespoon of sour cream, a tablespoon of grated cheese in one cormer and what looked like half a rasher of sliced shoulder bacon on top . Sad.
Lisa
Good food, pleasant atmosphere. Basic menu. No frills but good, well made portions at a good price.
