Review The Good Home Onehunga - Onehunga

Sarah Murray
We had a work event at this place. First, I like the decorations and style. Nice and relaxing bar to catch up with mates. Secondly, the food portion was good, they're tasty. I don't mind to come back again. There are plenty of car parks but it was quite busy on the weekend. A small playground for kids makes things a lot easier.

This is my second visit to this branch. I came with my students celebrating the end of course. We had great food and a great time. As usual, staff were friendly, and service was quick. I recommend this branch for its beautiful ambiance and friendly atmosphere.

Cool interior and exterior:) I’d say food 4/5. Italian meatballs were not soft and the bread was a bit burned. Mushed potato - amazing :) My husband, also, liked the bacon burger. Levin pizza has too much pepper for my taste.

Bravo to all Wait Staff that attended to our table. Food was delicious, had to point out my 12yo ordered the adult burger meal whic never came until I asked him to let the waitress know. He didn't starve though as he was picking from our plates lol. atmosphere very homely and warm vibes. Cleanliness was spot on including the ladies toilets. Keep up the excellent work everyone. I would definitely recommend this place if ur looking for a good family restaurant 👌

We had been there yesterday as part of my sons school celebration. Tables were all reserved and well marked. We had the Levin pizza, fish n chips, chicken burger, curly fries and some drinks. The food was great. The only thing my son said that the chicken in the burger was a bit burnt and a bit dry. Overall though everything else was fantastic.

What an establishment. Great food, large selection of drinks, friendly staff with service to match…these guys are winning on all fronts. Enjoy! Hamish Dorrington Kakapo Business Sales

It was a good place to enjoy some good time with friends and family. Attended a 1st Birthday, all the food served was great. Definitely one place to remember and a repeat visit soon.

Whilst I have nothing bad to say, I kinda feel a spot so great could be better utilised by opening earlier with more breakfast options, considering the only downfall of the cosy cafe around the corner is an early morning spot in the sun/view. Expected more some how taste wise as no garnish with the hash and it seems they are trying to be flash, however certainly excellent staff and a nice place to socialise.) reasonable value too. Not too busy so…..4.2 current seems about right:(

Didn’t get a chance to try the food and was there on a busy night but other than that the place looked really nice and the drinks and service was pretty good. Would of liked to be approached to be honest but that’s fine. Hope to try their food sometime :)

I went the other day with my mother for lunch and it was wonderful. The food was nice and hot, and staff were so friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed, just like you’re at home. For those seeking Alcoholic beverages, there are multiple pages spanning a wide range from wine to beer to gin. For those seeking non alcoholic beverages, the last page provides a very likeable range, including mocktails, regular soft drinks and ginger beer. The pizza is very tasty (we had the one with grilled chicken on - Dannevirke). And although there’s only 5 options for brunch, the creativity in these options doesn’t stop - the Carnegie Hash (basically like an eggs Benedict) was so tasty and definitely one of my top 5 rosti favourites. Any mistakes were owned up to and quickly remedied. Server Shoutout: Liam. He was so kind to us (everyone was) and made us feel like we were meant to be there.

hi team, I absolutely loved the venue - and the staff were so wonderful. I felt like I was home, thank you for a great experience. I just want to comment on the sauce used on the pork ribs - I found it a bit spicy - can I make a suggestion that you serve the sauce as a side and not over the ribs - just so people like myself have a choice whether to eat it or not. This in no way impacts the yummy food we all ate as a family. I am grateful that the kids got to eat free as your promotion for after 4pm Sundays that is great for families especially during a time of recession. Thank you for everything. We hope to come back soon. It was also my daughters 17th birthday and you let us bring a cake - I loved how accommodating you were.

They were very busy and had to close the cocktail bar for a while but it seemed like a sensible decision. They also notified us when they had space to make more cocktails which I felt was going tye extra mile. Lovely warm heaters l, great atmosphere.

Good restaurant and bar, food was yummy and good options for everyone. Beautiful heratige building. Bit noisy as warriors were playing and staff were very busy but they did well. Depends what you're after but good all rounder.

Little Gem in Onehunga! Warm and tasteful ambience with great staff! 👍🏻 good selection of chilled beers and comfy seating both inside and out! 😁

Had Friday lunch special - fish & chips with friends, which we all enjoyed. Original features of former library have been combined with modern styling to provide an attractive and interesting environment. Staff are friendly and attentive. Good Home's website needs updating to show correct pricing for "lunch specials".

First time here with the family. A lot of room for bigger groups. The food is good for its price. Will be back for sure.
Kayc Hilihetule
Poke bowl had hardly any salmon, let alone anything else could be eaten in probably 5-6 bites, price was around $25. Wouldn’t get again! Place is probably only good for chips and beer
Racheal Tuisaula
Ordered ribs presentation was nice but could only have two. Sauce was too overpowering for me. The slaw was too dry - was a tad disappointed because this one was quite expensive on the menu. Awesome service thou hands down 🙌🏼.

First time visiting and enjoyed it. Greeted on arrival and very attentive staff. $15 for a burger & fries, definitely a special I won’t go without. Instantly felt like I was in a hotel, with the high ceilings and vintage decor. I liked it. Will be back.

I really wanted to like this place, given the cool setting. And I also appreciate that not every venue can provide wide-ranging vegetarian options, BUT the quinoa salad was one of the blandest things I have ever eaten (a few chunks of root vegetables and massive piles of quinoa), and to be honest I find it a bit offensive that this seemed to pass as acceptable for people who were vegetarian or trying to reduce their meat intake.<br/><br/>Friendly service though, so there's that.
Shirley
Friendly staff great atmosphere, staff immediately served us but for a burger being $20 not really worth it for what I received.
Sei
Had lunch here yesterday. Lovely staff, nice decor, nice variety of food available, good reasonable prices. Nice pl for lunch. <br/>Crumbed fish burger was very disappointing ( fish was burnt & tasted burnt) but was able to send it back & get a different burger with no issues at all. The chicken burger was delicious 😋. Will be back to try the ribs.
HungryRunner
Nice place with a good ambiance. Food was delish with a well-sized serving. I loved the live music at the background. Superb customer service too!.. will definitely be back.

I really like this chain of restaurants. The environment is good, it’s good for families, friends, co-workers. The food selection is pretty good and their wine is reasonably priced.<br/>The chicken and cranberry salad was pretty good as were the delish chippies.<br/>All in all can’t really fault.<br/>Oh, maybe table service for drinks would be good...... other than that, great catch up spot.

Went here for a few birthday drinks and dinner with my friends, the manager would not stop staring at us and wouldn’t allow us to have a tab as they thought we were going to bolt it just because we went into the outside area ? The cocktails were weak and not what stated on the menu - would give 2 stars instead of 3 but the fried chicken was absolutely amazing so saved the day.
Khaleesi
Love the look of this place and child-friendly atmosphere with the addition of a playground. I ordered two small plates, ribs were dry but loved the salt n pepper squid. The blue cheese burger barely had any blue cheese. Kids macaroni and cheese came im n a small metal hot pot not appropriate for kids and was not advised that it was hot to touch so child burnt her fingers. Drinks had no straws.
Alby Farris
Over-rated.  I booked online and when I arrived they said there was no booking which was very embarrassing. However, they said there were tables on the lower area. I was seated next to a sliding door that people were coming in and out of and we froze, so had to leave early. Not going there again or recommending it . . .

Great little hidden spot in onehunga, a little bit off the main mall strip, lovely atmosphere staff are super nice. Heaps of good seating also has a cool little play area
Kay Vea
This place is lovely. I would say a hidden gem in onehunga as its off the main strip of the mall.<br/>Place is kid friendly with a mean park outside for the kids. Staff are attentive and friendly too. Food was delicious. Plenty of off street parking at night time.
Marmite_ninja
Great pub/restaurant at the bottom of Onehunga Mall. Friendly staff and great selection of food and drinks. Loved the indoor and outdoor flow with a little play areas for the kids at the bottom. Plenty of car parking outside. Great place to relax and grab a meal or a drink.
Maria Foy
Love this place! It’s staff are super friendly, the atmosphere is amazing and it’s kid friendly! There’s a great playground outside. It opens at 11am and I kind of wish it opened earlier. I know it runs late but sometimes I want an early coffee and love this place so much!
Laura Hulbert
This has become favourite local family catch up place. The playground keeps the kids entertained for ages, the food is pretty tasty (Cambridge pizza & fried chicken are our fav's) the house wine (Kopiko Bay) is really tasty and the staff have definitely improved since opening. It's hopping on a Friday with live music and always good for brunch. Although one of the more $$ places in Onehunga is definitely worth a visit.

Booked a table for 2 to dine in with Kay Vea . We were greeted and seated quite easily enough. First impression is it is quite a big space. We really enjoyed the outdoor vibe of the seating plan they had going on (wouldn't like to dine there on a winter/rainy autumn evening). They even had a full on kids area with playground & trampoline going.<br/><br/>Service was quite average. They did seem quite understaffed at times. Either this or he waiting staff were just generally slow.<br/><br/>We ordered the garlic butter loaf & chicken kaarage for entree. The loaf was nice and fluffy, if there was only a little bit more butter on it - would've made it perfect. The chicken kaarage has a nice sauce on it but at there bits of the chicken that was really dry and over seasoned.<br/><br/>We had a regular Lamb Shank on Triple Mash & a Lamb Rump for mains. The servings were huge. The mash was delicious and made the dishes. The Lamb Rump was nicely cooked. The salad had some beets and broccoli which went well with the sauce.<br/><br/>The servings were huge and worth the prices we paid for.<br/><br/>The food was mostly enjoyable, the service at times found wondering. We would've appreciated a bottle of water on our table so we wouldn't have to wait on the service staff to come around to ask for some.<br/><br/>Overall was a pleasant experience.<br/><br/>

I dont usually post reviews but here goes:<br/><br/>Lovely building and design.. great service!<br/><br/>However my chicken parmigiana was not to be desired. Barely had any cheese on the top and the chicken tasted like it was a frozen pattie from the supermarket. Not worth 26$. Side slaw was great to wash the taste out. Have a sore tummy now. Oh well.

‘Not so Good Home’: Bit disappointed to be honest, my wife recommended this place for lunch as she had been here a few times before with friends. On this occasion we were asked to provide a credit card first before they could serve our food. New policy apparently where customers that choose to sit outside in the Sun must have a credit card tab at the bar. Why? Since when? Why didn’t you ask my wife and her friends last Sunday? A bar tab for two people having lunch? That’s ridiculous, unheard of. Or maybe these two Polynesians look suspicious enough to run off without paying. Yes, you said you were short staffed, there were only 3 groups outside. You say a group of people took off without paying a $500 bill previously so you had to implement this policy. Our lunch bill probably only totalled $50 bucks. If you can see a bar tab reaching close to $500, is that not alarm bells already??  <br/>Dear waitress that served us. Learn from this, we were in your position nearly 20 years ago serving others, even today I am still providing the best customer service I know how to mine in my own business. My wife treats her patients with the best service she knows how too. Your attitude and professionalism can take you a very long way. No need to get all defensive, just put yourself in your customers position. Think, what other options can I or we offer them to make their experience pleasant? To simply tell us that we need to give you our credit card for a tab because we are sitting outside is a big no, wrong approach on so many levels. Why not offer pre-pay? Perhaps this was how you were trained, I don’t know. We felt singled out, its degrading and humiliating. As you can probably tell, we have had our share of experiences (in café’s, petrol stations even boarding business class on flights), people will question and stereotype. I’m glad our kids were not there at the time to see this, sadly, its reality for us Polynesians, so they will face it sooner or later. In the meantime, put a sign up outside, put something in writing that informs EVERYONE that it is policy regardless of who you are. To verbally tell us is not good enough, sounds selective and total BS.

We’ve been there once and loved it. The coffee was amazing and the pizza and fries we shared were hot and fresh. Very friendly staff and I didn’t want to leave!

I've just moved to Onehunga and am trying out the local places - Good Home has a big outdoor deck which is super nice on a sunny day. I've been both during the day and at night and they're quite different experiences. Daytime feels chilled, kids on the playground, beers on the deck. Night time was a more chaotic, really busy, lots of people and the music really loud. The food is yum, on the pricey side but you do get good sized portions. Service all good. I'll be back!

We went here for a work colleagues leaving function. I was trying to eat ‘healthy’ at this time so I got a lamb salad. We had looked at the menu online and it said it came with grilled haloumi which is basically why I got it and when it came out it had feta on it so was rather disappointed.. Lamb wasn’t very nice either it had a weird flavour. Everyone else’s orders looked much better than mine though 😢

Came in here for a quick lunch... really like the look and atmosphere of this pub.... we ordered a beef and a fish burger... both were big and quite tasty... the best thing is they highlight my favourite Rum... Appleton’s.<br/>Great local pub for a catchup in the old library...<br/>

Stopped here for brunch after a big walk. The deck is lovely on a sunny day and great music was blasting through the speakers. Table next to us brought in their dogs, which were rowdy and kept begging for scraps. <br/><br/>We had the eggs benny with bacon/ very tasty and well made. We asked for the bacon to be crispy but that wasn’t relayed to the cook. The mushroom medley was excellent and the perfect portion size. Coffee was good too. We’d definitely go back to try more items. <br/><br/>PS. Menu on Zomato is not the current menu. I’d made my choice before entering the facility only to find out the menu has been reduced.
Chaylar
Great service and excellent food. Abit on the pricy side for my liking but when I do feeling like treating myself to some very hearty food I'll definitely be going back!!! Loved it.
Anupam Singh
Good ambiance loved the plants and the books available. <br/>Food arrived quickly and the Roast Duck pizza was amazing, truffle macaroni and triple cheese is highly recommended.
FlyingMonkey
Note that they have a breakfast menu and a lunch menu, and the lunch menu don't start until 1130am ( a little different from what we saw on Zomato). We had an Egg Anystyle and Egg Benedict which came with a homemade hash brown. Overall we enjoyed our food, your typical kiwi breakfast :)

My first time here and it won’t be my last! Good was AMAZING! Went with a big group and not one complaint. My missing rating is due to staff. We were there for almost 40mins until someone came to give us menus. Apart from wait staff, the Manager was awesome and I guess made up for them. Must eat here again!

We decided to pop in for a late lunch on a wet Friday afternoon and what a lovely place to while away a few hours with a book from their little library. Outstanding building and decor, the designers have made a beautiful dining space with gorgeous decorations and the loos are spectacular. The staff were nice and the dishes arrived very quickly, my partners chicken Kale Super salad was ok, but my Jerusalem Harvest Salad was delicious, and the chef was happy to swap some of the potatoes for a small fresh salad of lovely dark greens with dark purple/black cherry tomatoes. Yum.

What a great setting for a summers evening, we love sitting outside in the huge outdoor area watching the sun go down while sipping away on a wine.<br/>Great selection of beers and wines, each week night they have something happening too.<br/>Karage Chicken is my go to on the food menu!
Anna
Avoid for Brunch...really awful and overpriced. Got a Salmon Cream cheese bagel for $16, only cream cheese was about half a teaspoons worth smeared across the plate. Bagel was driest I've ever had and hardly toasted. Ate 1/4 of bagel and gave server feedback on Bagel. Pretty disappointed. Not that I want for freebies but no offer of discount or anything. Not worth risking coming back for brunch, plenty of better places in Onehunga :-/

Four of us headed to The Good Home, Onehunga on a Friday early evening. What a neat spot. Admittedly we were there before the 6.00 pm rush hour but everything was highly efficient - the service was quick and the whiskey sours were great and quickly helped put a smile on the faces of some of work-weary group. The food arrived promptly - the burgers got big thumbs up from the boys. One of the girls went for the bangers and mash and raved about it. The other went for one of the salads and wished she'd gone for the bangers and mash! Her fault - stop being all girly salady! Very impressed with this new addition to a part of town that's crying out for some good, fun eating spots. The Good Home, Onehunga sets the standard nice and high.

Worst hot chocolate I've had in my life one step up from <br/>Dishwater and they had two goes at it first one was Luke warm<br/>As was my partners long black.

A beautiful setting, with shelves of great literature for everyone to choose from. The outside area is lush with green plants, and a balcony over looking the street. Contrasting this is the modern music that plays at just the right level in the background. There are TV's displaying the rugby game. This is a place for the whole family.<br/><br/>The food was delicious. I would recommend the Marton pizza. The wedges were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The dessert, a brownie with ice cream was a perfect finish. Prices are reasonable and the food is quality.<br/><br/>You can split the bill and staff are friendly. Bathrooms are clean and tidy.

Went into a food coma after having the rib eye. Asked for it to be done medium - over charted on the outside. Didn't ruin the taste but certainly not a nice feeling especially if you are paying $42. Cool decor and conversation of a library.

The Good home have done a great job converting what used to be the old Library, into an interesting dining space. With its bold concrete exterior, it’s hard to miss! Each area of the restaurant has been well thought out and suits the look and feel they have gone for. My favourite room was the small ‘plant’ room that leads out to the deck. The bold fauna printed cushions and feature wall complimented the hanging plants and I loved the round sofa seat. Also for those wanting to dine in and watch the rugby, they have plenty of tv’s around the place.<br/><br/>The menu is a little unusual but there is loads of options to choose from. You’ll find all your pub favourites and also some Asian inspired dishes. <br/><br/>We ordered three small plates to share between the two of so we could try more than one dish. We went with the salt & pepper squid, pork belly and karaage chicken. The portions were far from ‘small’ and in fact were very generous. The squid was lacking seasoning and a little over done. It was our least favourite dish. The pork belly was well cooked and we enjoyed the sauce it was coated in. The katsu chicken didn’t’ have the crisp crumb coating we expected but was still good and paired well with the garlic aioli. <br/><br/>Overall we enjoyed our experience here but have learnt not to order as much as we did! Looking forward to dining in again and sitting out on the deck when it's warmer, as the deck area is perfect for it!

Just been here for lunch. Had to send the coffees back as luke warm but they promptly gave us hot ones. The staff were really lovely and attentive. I had the steak sandwich and hubby had the lamb shank. The lamb was nice and tender but only luke warm. My steak sandwich was 2 really thick hunks of toasted french stick with the chopped core of an iceburg lettuce and 2 slices of tomato and some burnt slices of sirloin steak which had a bitter taste and some chips which were nice. Overall disappointed and won't be going back. This is the first time I have reviewed a restaurant but felt I had to. The only good thing was that we met the prime minister there.
Janelle Brown
Simply the worst service. We had to seat ourselves, grab our own menus after being stared at by their staff and after asking to order food and trying to wave a waitress down again we were simply ignored while others were seated and served. I had heard their service was terrible but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Worst service by staff, will never return again!
Sinead Hesnan
Have been here twice since it opened, and both visits equally good. Caesar salad and karaage chicken are very good and i found no fault with service. Friendly and welcoming staff, great cocktails and gorgeous building/decor. <br/><br/>Would definitely go back!

Breakfast for 3 today. Recommend by a work colleagueI ordered and had the Salmon Egg Benne, Wifey ordered Mushrooms on Giabatta, Slave girl had Pancakes with bacon & Maple Syrup.Interesting North Facing building.  Classic reno honoring its it past as the former public library with modern additions that drag the venue into the cool place to hang in the am or pmEggs Bennie were perfect, well presented, served on a toasted bagel. very generous portions of smoked salmon. amount of hollandaise sauce was in proportion of the foodMushrooms on Giabatta were just a little too long (for wifeys' liking, no pleasing this woman, I thought they were fine) on the pan but a great assortment of fungi varieties. Pancakes with Bacon were a good portion with good balance of sweet n sour flavor's

The place looks great, they have done a nice job. It is nice to have place like this in the neighborhood. We have been there several times. But the service has been really slow and actually quite bad nearly every time. Twice they have missed a food order totally. If you want to get another beer and you are thirsty, you should head to the bar. The service to tables is really slow even if the place is not full of people. Beer is also quite expensive, handles are $11 for a basic Mac's Gold/Speights and better pilsners and pale ales are $14.10-14.30. The pizzas are really good but quite small. Nachos and burgers are big portions and really tasty. It can be difficult to find parking nearby.

The guacamole was not guacamole but an avocado purée but they were really good about it and took it off the bill. The new fit out is beautiful and the pork belly was delicious, and The staff are really friendly especially Dan! Great cocktails.

The Good Home was not so good to us today. 3 friends and I went for lunch for one of my friends birthday. They were having some issues with the till system so not sure if this was the reason for the bad experience, but it certainly contributed to it. The service was very slack, our coffees were forgotten because of the till issues, no staff circulating to tell so after 20 minutes went inside to query, no apology from the young English woman. They weren't that busy either. Rude service from one of the male staff members when it came to bringing our meals, as different orders at the same table seemed to baffle him completely, and we felt like an inconvenience by making him have to work. All the drinks came out waaaaaay after the food and only because we had to go up to the bar AGAIN to ask where they were. One friend was only charged .83 cents because of the"till issues". The food was just ok. Between us we had 3 pizzas, the beef burger and the potato gem stack, which was just a pile of frozen supermarket-looking tater tots with some parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. The pumpkin on the Dannevirk pizza was undercooked like they'd run out and tried to quickly microwave some more. The refurb is amazing and the outside space is awesome, but some money should be spend on staff training and not just on the fitout. I like to give establishments the benefit of the doubt as we all have bad days, but The Good Home Onehunga has too many bad reviews for it it to be a coincidence. We won't be back in a hurry unless I see the reviews improve.

I've just read previous reviews and I'm pleased to say I have enjoyed every visit I have had here. First went a week after it opened. Very impressive job and love the indoor outdoor spaces. Had a lovely lunch with the girls where we had squid, kaarage chicken and pizza between 3 of us. Great service and good food. The only I wasn't impressed with was the lemon tart. Was small tartlets where as I was expecting a slice of something... so it was pastry heavy. The others has cheesecake and enjoyed it. <br/>Came again and my friend has lamb salad- she enjoyed it but I thought it just looked like a bag of coleslaw and a small bit of lamb. <br/>I'm keen to try the steaks next time as they look great.<br/><br/>This place is building a nice atmosphere for a beer, bar snacks and sport. Shame parking is tight but I'm lucky to be in walking distance. <br/>There are some great staff too.<br/>
Angela (A Style Collector)
We came here before the Adele concert and they just opened a week or so beforehand. The place was busy on a Saturday so the service wasn't the best. <br/><br/>However, I've been to a few The Good Home branches and none have disappointed me so far. They converted the old library so the decor and interior is beautiful. The styling of The Good Home is really great. <br/><br/>In terms of food, the portion sizes are massive and good for the price. Can't really go wrong and this is a great place for brunch or a late afternoon lunch.

Outdoor kickit spot was dope, service was aiite (hot chick never served us though) ordered the double angus beef burger, monday deal with beer was nice very filling, pork belly and salad was tasty af. Rate it 4.5 because outdoor area was nice, parking @is ok, i can see myself hitting the brews heavy here, also learnt a little bit about the guy in the picture behind the bar (Andrew Carnegie). Next time im going to find out about the girl at the bar 😉

Came with a gf for lunch and a wine as we usually head to the mt Eden good home. Place looked great amazing set up! First issue was the parking there is nowhere to park especially for the amount of seating for the restraunt had to drive around for over 25min only to end up parking down a back street miles away. The service was great the guy mentioned high chairs were on the way so will note for future. We ordered pork belly no fault there. But the pizza was tragic..great flavor and all but the toping was pathetic basically paid for dough not a pizza. I love my food this was disapponting. I was hoping to enjoy this place it's local a cool set up . Hopefully next time the food is more "full"<br/><br/>This is my round 2: came with kids... service was slow had to ask to order, ask for table to be cleared and next was the food, hubbys burger was good, I got the beatroot salmon and couldn’t eat it. Was revolting stale bread and old salmon that had olive oil poured on it. I’m a huge fish Easter but this was in eatable

I had a great steak here...  We arrived on a Sunday evening - no booking. It was quite busy with full seating inside and out - which always makes for a great atmosphere.  Lots of families with kids.  Both ordered the steaks (but different types) and the Nachos.  They were perfectly, perfectly cooked - béarnaise sauce and onion rings with mash on one, - fried segos, salad and fries on the other. Nachos was so overwhelming that we needed a doggy bag to deal with it a little later (no problem posed by that at all).  House tap beer was reasonably priced and not a bad drop.  Its always kinda fun when 'The Mix' cocktails are a cheaper choice that glasses of wine - will remember that for next summer.

Loved the out door seating area.  We took our Son on Anzac Day before dropping him off at the airport to go back to Dunedin to hostel food.  I had read the reviews but thought surely it couldn't be that bad.  <br/>I orded the salt and pepper calamari with kiwifruit salsa, this was oily and not crispy and Calamari tuff.  My husband had the Chicken wings that were okay but no garnish or colour on the plate.  The most disappointing dish was the Beef Hamburger that my son ordered.   The patties looked store brought and were inedible.  My son eats most things but even he could not eat them,   <br/>We all said we would return for the ambience but definitely not the food!!   There is no excuse for bad food in  NZ.

We popped in during the week this place reopened to the public. Great new menu and the decor is Oh-la-la! Very savvy! Staff were friendly and attentive. Loved the out door set up for watching live games. Just what we needed in the neighborhood!

Myself and two friends went to The Good Home on a Wednesday night for dinner. Service was initially good, the waitress was prompt with taking food and drinks orders. The meals were good, but nothing to rave about. Standard pub grub! Once our dinner was served, no one came to check on us, and we were left sitting at the table with our dirty finished plates for quite some time. We actually ordered dessert from the children's menu, which was quite pricey - $9 for two scoops of ice cream and some sprinkles. The building itself has been done very nicely, and is worth a visit just to check that out.

Came here for dinner last night and my experience was ok. There was a group of 9 on a Sunday evening and I was excited to try the new local. We wanted to try a range of things so we ordered few small plates and some breads 1st. Turkish Bread with dips, garlic loaf, nachos, fried chicken, chicken wings, pork belly, and salt and pepper squid. The best thing was probably the garlic loaf which was a nice little ciabatta loaf warmed with a nice amount of garlic butter which wasn't overpowering with garlic. The nachos were not that nice with a dull appearance matching the flavour but must admit the portion was good. The fried chicken and the salt and pepper squid just tasted like the chef dipped both of them in salt before sending them out which was disappointing as the chicken was so tender but just to salty and the squid was just a lost thought slapped on the plate with an out of place kiwi fruit salsa. Pork belly was nice and tender really well cooked but just wish the crackle was a little more crunchy then it would of been perfect. We ordered a couple of mains and 2 pizzas. The pizzas were ok looked better than they tasted but not bad. The rib eye was cooked perfect which was ruined by the mash which was flavorless and so sloppy. Would of been a much better dish without it or just make the mash better. Peri peri chicken looked like one of my kids made it with not much imagination or effort put towards this dish. The lamb salad was just average, probably would never order this dish if we came back. Just lacked everything. Sirloin steak was good served with fries and eggs but I think they should change the fries because if your paying that price you would expect something more than budget brand shoe strings. <br/> The FOH staff were good and attentive which was good and the barman had good character which<br/> Every bar should have. The place looks really good and clean and the outside deck would probably be a hit during those lazy weekend brunches and the summer afternoons.

Was excited to have a new local but what a letdown. Table for 6 adults and a toddler Saturday for lunch. <br/><br/>Firstly they don't have high chairs. What? <br/><br/>Secondly the chef (not the management) decided he would only do a brunch menu until 3pm. What? Who is running this place?<br/><br/>We complained and they amended to say they would do the regular menu, except the mains and pastas. No problem here, good result. But no.. the problems continued.<br/><br/>After a long wait one pizza came and was finished before other mains even arrived and the very last main came 15 minutes after the rest of the table which was the lamb salad. Do not order this!! It basically looked like a bag of supermarket coleslaw with peas in it and the amount of lamb would have been approx 50grams. At $24.90 we sent it back. <br/><br/>The bartender (as seen in the FB picture) is the saving grace of this establishment. He was very helpful and apologetic. We did get a 50% discount as is apparently managements policy for disgruntled clientele so that helped but not once did the manager on duty come and see us. Very poor, we won't be returning which is a shame. Why can't Onehunga get a decent pub!
