Review Mr. T's - Onehunga

Liz Scott
Love coming here but I have to pick my times carefully because so does everyone else 🤩 and for good reason. Everyone is so friendly and kind. Rose green tea is served to all customers - very good palate cleanser. The bao are amazing and I have been told by another customer everything is made on site.

Mr. T's is located on the DressMart side of Onehunga Mall Road. It can be easy to miss since there isn't a sign by the sidewalk but there is a board on the sidewalk with a Banh Mi. They do have a cabinet but it was mostly empty when I arrived for lunch. They also have a menu. I ordered at the counter and grabbed a table but it does look like they do table service. There is a larger bench at the back and tables inside and outside the cafe. They were all mostly taken when I was there. I grabbed the prawn and pork bun cha and that was really nice. The meatballs had a nice flavour and texture. The nuoc cham dressing was really nice with the noodles and meat. It did look like everyone there had the pho so this is probably something I need to try next time. It might also be a good place for pastries but that looks to be a breakfast thing. Either way, this is a good option for some tasty food in Onehunga.

Onehunga is quickly becoming 'more than your average food' suburb. Stroll along Onehunga mall and you'll see lots of great options to choose from. The pho was bold and beef was generously given. The noodles had a bite and not mushy. The banh mi was served in a crispy french style bread. Pork was tasty and slightly smokey.

The Pho soup tasted very meaty, long hour slow cooked stock. Bánh Mì Thịt Nướng was full of flavor, well balanced between different vegetable and grilled pork. The place is very close to Dressmart. When you are here for shopping, don't miss this one.

My mum and I shared the beef banh mi. All the ingredients seemed fresh and the service was super quick and friendly. We got some pastries to go and they tasted as good as they looked! Definitely going back to try the pho next!

Sooo good. We had the chicken roll and the pho to share, but both were amazing and we didn't want to share. The pastries were good too. Will definitely be back!

I had heard good things about the food here and it is all true. What a spot! The pho is delicious, broth is rich and well spiced with generous portions of tender beef and chewy noodles, fresh herbs and bean sprouts. I grabbed a banh mi sandwich to go for the long drive home but couldn’t resist how good it smelled and started sneaking bites not long after the Harbour Bridge and then almost had to turn around to get another one, it’s so good! The crackling crisp crusted yet squishy soft baguette! The earthy pate and tangy pickled veg! The creamy mayo and hot fresh chilies! And the perfectly seasoned chewy pork. So good. This is a sandwich I’ll make a long drive for. Looked like everyone there was enjoying their morning coffees and pastries, nice vibe in the cafe. Lucky Onehunga locals!

Great coffee and the baguettes were fresh, soft, and just enough crunch. Chilled vibe, attentive service, and cool displays of tea pots, cups

Definitely coming back here! Friendly and quick service, some wonderful looking baking. The big breakfast equal to all if not better. And who knew...? they have some delicious looking Vietnamese dishes on their menu as well. Coffee is very good, open from 7am.

Went there for the pie because it was on the top ten best pie list in Auckland. Honestly, imho the pie is good but not $12++ good. I've tried better pies that are cheaper, and award winning too. The place is a great place with great vibe though. Won't be back for the pie but maybe for the Vietnamese dishes.

Had heard about the Banh Mi from this place for a long time and finally got to try it. They nail the baguette which is really similar to the ones in Vietnam. The pork is very well-seasoned and the pickled radish and carrot add a great vibrancy. One thing, though, I find it a bit too dry. Banh Mi isn’t meant to be ‘saucy’ but I think this one could do with a bit more mayo and pate. Overall still good but for $15, it could be better. Very friendly and welcoming staff.

Finally a fusion cafe in my local community! The breads here are super fresh and the food was sooo good! I ordered the meatball and just loved how juicy and flavorsome they were, much better than others ive had before!

I need to go back for a bahn mi or pho, because I get food envy going there, seeing everyone's food. But... I can't complain, their pastries and coffee are too notch!

Food quality is quite decent. Had the big breakfast and only downside was the bacon was a little hard. The iced mocha was really good and strong, none of that bland mocha other cafes do.

Very crowded at 10-11am on a Saturday, that's to be expected though. Food was pretty good, nothing to complain about except the pies which didn't have a crispy crust, but some people prefer that.

Friendly neighbourhood vibe with delicious food! When the plain croissant is amazing you know everything is. The bacon and egg roll is amazing, Bahn mi and Pho, pies everything! excellent coffee.
