Review Ship & Anchor - Orewa

Pat Ryan
Had the Scotch Steak and side of scallops. Steak was done just like I ordered and scallops were great and the sauce was a perfect complement. Wife had the seafood chowder and was not disappointed. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Wow what a great find on our travels. We shared an entree of scallops and cheesy garlic bread which was fantastic. Then the Lamb shanks and Risotto that were perfectly cooked and very generous portions.Great prices on the drinks as well.

A good experience except that the only choices of milk were dairy or soy. The menu said a large range of coffees. Perhaps they'd run out of almond and oat milks. The food was good value for money. Fries were very nice.

We had a great time at Ship and Anchor. The staff was nice. We felt so welcome And the food was fantastic. Thank you. I am looking forward to many more launches here.

Walked 40 minutes after they had unknowingly closed, and they were happy to take our order due to a large group who were still there. The Scallops and Prawn entrees were amazing, chips were some of the best I've had, and the Prosciutto Pizza was awesome 👌. Well worth a visit if you are in or near Orewa👍

Was absolutely amazing. Greeted by friendly staff and taken straight to our table on a busy Saturday (we had booked and would probably recommend as was very busy) Companion had the kumara burger and it was delicious. I had the platter "for 2" which was phenomenal decent portion of each item and all were delicious. We then had desserts and they were very tasty. All the staff were very nice too. Will definitely be back!

Excellent seafood chowder and lamb shank. Reasonable prices as well.

Great service. Food big portions. It was very quiet so we got our food quickly. I had the chicken fettuccini and it was delicious. The Decor was a bit run down and dated but clean enough.

Good basic + food. in so far that there is that little more available if requested. Meal was showing fish and mash with veges. I requested fries instead of fries and was given the option of salad or veges ,no problem. Service was punctual and pleasant. Décor was in keeping with the name, some areas looked a little tired, but not a problem.

AMAZING food!! Mum and I decided to go get lunch out and hadn't been to the Ship and Anchor for years, and were not disappointed. We shared the calamari and the seafood chowder and they were both divine. However, one of the wait staff who was clearing off some tables kept staring at us as he went past which did make me a little uncomfortable, but not enough to put me off.

Friendly staff and good food. We had the lamb shanks and the fish of the day. Both were good with good serving of fresh vegetables. Little sports bar at one end restaurant at the other. Family friendly.

Great service, excellent food and portion sizes make for a fantastic experience.

Good drinks and food. We had BBQ pork ribs and lamb shanks. Both nice dishes. BBQ pork rib sauce was okay but slightly sweet and blend for our tastes. Lamb was quite good. Good service. Friendly but not over the top. Cozy spot for a nice relaxing night out!

Wonderful atmosphere , great seafood and great service.

Not sure where they found their chef but they need to give him some kind of medal! My stomach is full and my mouth is still watering thinking about their food. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, big thumbs up 👍 Also the house beer is mean.

The service and food was excellent the seafood chowder was one of the best. The bowl was filled with seafood with little soup. The pizza and eggs Benedict were good too. Great overall experience

Fantastic place to say farewell to a full year. Initial thoughts walking in.... was uncertain at best... but pleasantly surprised as the food was exceptional and the service friendly & professional. Thank you!

Went there for dinner today. The place is nice and relaxed and has a good selection of basic food. We ended up getting the chicken fettuccine with creamy sauce. Our order was taken but sadly the waitress forgot my beer and needed reminding

The food when it came out was of a good size and tasty and came with a couple of pieces of garlic bread.

Really nice place. Great service and really good food! We had the Pork Belly Bites and Popcorn Shrimp to start, and both were amazing, then the Pasta of the Day and the Fish & Chips, again, these were both awesome! Good value too, generous plates without being ridiculously large. Would 100% recommend!

Staff were lovely. Food was great but didn't like the burnt sugar on desert, lovely place going to be coming back again and trying something new would recommend people to come here

Basic food. Had old fashioned shrimp in a bowel what seemed straight out of the fridge with one or two cooked prawns on top..thought it was a cooked prawn starter dish...others felt their food was average too although one person said their seafood platter was good so that might be worth a try. The service was not friendly.

Went here lastnight, honestly so happy with our food. Ordered the seafood platter was delicious, then I ordered the pork belly, my family ordered ribs, and the steaks, the Oreo cheesecake and brownie was so yummy. Hands down great service from the Indian guy, fast service, everything was hot and fresh. The vibe is nice and relaxing good background music can even watch the sports games that are on. overall amazing time here, would definitely come back 😊👍🏾

Beer was very nice, Ambiance is lovely, lots of boats around the place and boat stuff. Service was ok nothing to rant about. Bf had the beef burger it was very nice I had onion rings they were lovely but very oily, got to the bottom and there was a bowl of oil and I didn't eat the last few. But all round pretty good

If you want a good meal for a decent price and good service the Ship And Anchor is the place. Doesn't look much from the outside but the food and service is spot on! Had pizza, steak, catch of the day, salad and pasta. Couldn't fault it for the price.
Mystery Shopper
Popped in for takeaway pizzas, got home to see very basic and lacking toppings, could have cooked a better one from countdown, sorry needs improvement .

Had a delicious dinner here - Beautiful fresh seafood and great service. We had the salt and pepper squid and the Catch of the day (Fresh Gurnard) cooked perfectly. I highly recommend this nautical themed bar & restaurant you must visit. 5 stars!

Great place. Seems to have made a bit of a turn around since I was last here about a year ago. Had the fish and chips and wow the batter... its was light, it was crunchy, it was delicious. I'm not a big fish and chips eater and made the exception here and I am glad that I did.

The food was really yum, the new menu has really good options, we liked how the place was styled as well!! The meals and service was also really quick and the place seemed clean. All of the wait staff were lovely and smiley, overall good food, good serving size and good atmosphere!

Ordered the salt and pepper squid for $14, and only got 7 small pieces of squid, and a pile of salad on the side. $2 a piece! What a rip off.

Hadn't been to the Ship and Anchor for years due to mediocre food in the past. But boy has it improved. Where we were sitting we could see the chef doing the finishing touches to the meals... such care was taken. The food was so pretty when it arrived at the table...looked like it had been plated with love!! Steaks are great! We'll be back!

What a treat, it's so rare when everything about a meal is really good, and better than you hoped for. We had the prawn avocado cups - delicious king prawns perfectly cooked and then chIlled and served in crisp lettuce cups, and the calamari cooked simply in olive oil with lemon. Very few restaurants do justice to calamari - this was fresh, small calamarI thInly cut, so It was a perfect texture, and no chewiness.
We followed with the fish (gurnard) and chips which we shared, which was perfect as it was a sizeable portion. Again you couldn't fault it, the gurnard was full of flavour and the batter was very light and crisp, with no hint of greasiness.
Very happy - this place is definitely on our list now!
BTW I think this place went into new ownership recently and they have got it right.
Stacey
Overpriced, over rated and under cooked.
Even mini spring rolls were cold in the middle. Fries were cold. Salt and Pepper squid was greasy and chewy.
I have had better food at half the price from other pubs in the area. Suggest if you are looking to eat out give the Ship and Anchor a wide berth.

Went to Ship & Anchor recently. Thought we'd check out the local restaurants. Service was good, food was good for pub grub but not great. My only criticism would be the price. My wife's dish off the specials menu was $32, my scotch fillet steak was $28. Let's just say they weren't really dishes that reflected the price. The engine room restaurant mains are around $34 and are stunning and worth it. I doubt I'd go back for anything but drinks...

It was a quiet Tuesday night and I was looking for somewhere special and local to take my gorgeous lady, I searched the net for that place and come up with nothing that actually stood out..Driving around we decided to stop at the Ship & Anchor Restaurant. This was not a mistake! We ordered the garlic bread which wasn't over powering as some other places seem to do, Followed by Shrimp cocktail which was well presented and flavoured..Our mains were the 'captains choice' a mouth watering steak (medium) cooked to perfection, topped with prawns, scallops and a side dish of garlic butter to use as you desired..along with the chips and salad this meal is a very good size. The restaurant is cosy, clean with a relaxing atmosphere. But the real wow factor for us was the service, Eddie and Devon were absolutely amazing they went above and beyond for us making our dining experience and engagement wonderful. I would like to thank you both for the fantastic night..also the chefs for the beautifully cooked food..Highly recommend this place, We will be going back...

OMG!. Took 85yr old nanna(my mother in law) to lunch for her birthday. Had a lovely meal, attentive staff and great relaxed atmosphere. At the opening of her presents the staff presented her with a lovely slice of rich dark chocolate cake with the words 'Happy birthday Catherine' iced around the plate. This evening i thanked my son for organising it and he told me he didn't...that it was completely from the restaraunt staff!
Have to say it's a long time that a business has given such thoughtful service!!
Thank you for going the extra to help celebrate a special day,,we are all most grateful...and the chocolate cake was delicious!! Thank you, we had a lovely afternoon and will see you again next time in Orewa.
