Review Oliver's Cafe - Orewa

Michael Peacock
This has to be one of the best places to be. Great food, brilliant views and the staff are the most pleasant people ever. Visited twice in 2 years and they were still the best food and people. Highly recommended if you are ever in the area. Michael Peacock. South Wales. UK

Always a great spot to brunch, the consistently great service and delicious food. It's become my go-to breakfast spot thanks to its reliable quality and friendly staff. Highly recommend for a satisfying start to the day!

This is a cute wee place to dine. The food was awesome and my spicy Chai latte was excellent. The only downside was that within moments of arriving wait staff decended and asked about drink orders which felt a little like we were being rushed into ordering. Otherwise it was a great experience.

Loved this place. Went there in the weekend for breakfast and it was delicious. The view from upstairs was amazing as well. Cannot fault it.

4.5 ⭐️ Oliver’s Cafe had a warm and inviting atmosphere. The cafe was clean with lots of outside seating. The service was friendly and super fast- our order came out in less than 10 minutes! We ordered the Zucchini Sweetcorn Fritters ($19) with a side of egg ($2.50), and the Eggs Benedict with Salmon ($21). The food was super tasty and fresh. Our coffees were well made too.

Second time we’ve been here and both times our coffees have come out lightning fast. Great food and location. Impressed with Connor’s service today too.
Marica Jurasovic
Lovely service and delicious food. A great selection to choose from. Our coffees came almost immediately and then food shortly after. Awesome vibe close to the beach. Definitely be back again.

Great brunch catch up. Food (corn fritters and vege scramble) was tasty and we didn't have to wait long. Great coffee too and cabinet of sweet treats looked great too... maybe next time for one of those.
Nikki
Gorgeous food... The taste and presentation. Always comes out fast and the wait staff are great - efficient and friendly. No wonder there are always crowds enjoying the experience

We were at Orewa for a couple of days early this month and came across this cafe open early. It was already packed but we managed to find a table inside. I was really impressed with the service! There wasn't even a long wait for the food and coffee to be served. We ordered the ugly bagel with salmon, pancake with berries, and ham and cheese croissant which we enjoyed very much. The only place we had breakfast the whole trip to Orewa! Thank you to the amazing and friendly staff.

Great coffee, great food, really great service, lovely friendly staff, great location lovely views. We came for brunch yesterday & back again today. We had a keto breakfast bowl & the chicken livers. Both good.
Ben Fernandez
Been twice there for breakfast. Superb food, excellent service. The children's pancakes were great and I had the big breakfast. Plenty of parking outise, but can get busy as it is quite a small cafe. Best breakfast I've found in Orewa.
Karan Taylor
Highly recommend Oliver's. Always and consistently good food, great value and excellent service.
Jesse Roberts
Great coffee and cabinet food! Head upstairs to the balcony area, for an awesome outlook to Orewa Beach and a much cosier and quieter space. I find the downstairs cafe far too busy with too many people. On the food front, coffee is great, treats are super tasty and cabinet sandwiches are tasty and fairly priced. Staff are always friendly and willing to help.

Popped in with my partner to grab a coffee and all of the staff we interacted with were friendly and asked us how our day was which was nice, as was the coffee she brought. Can't comment on the food as we haven't eaten any but if we come back for some I will update this :)

Nice spot close to the beach, quick service and really good food combined with a nice big cup of Flat White. The price is totally fine. 👍🏻🙂

Exceptional food, great coffee and service that is consistently brilliant every time (happy staff). Nothing else needed for a great cafe/eating experience.

Amazing views and equally amazing coffee! The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating with decaf options. Excellent place to hang out and you'll definitely enjoy it if you have little children because they can do cute drawings on your drinks!

Our first time at Olivers today and we'll definitely be going back. Staff were great (especially since we had our 'busy' toddler and new born with us), service was top notch and food/coffee delicious. Thanks
Sarah Pearce

Excellent coffee, great food, and service with a smile.
Charlotte Mellar
The friendliest staff with the best coffee. Go out of my way on the way to work to get coffee from here 😊
Jesse Greenslade
Lovely friendly staff, one of our regular places we like to eat in Orewa. Very dog friendly and always accommodating to our four legged friends.

Went for lunch on Sunday. What a disappointment. The fish and chips were just ok but my quesadilla was so disappointing. The chicken mole has a big hunk of chick skin and fat and bone in it. Felt unwell all afternoon so goodness only knows what else was in the chicken. Accompanied by a small bowl of pumpkin mash that was fridge cold. Not even enough cheese to hold the corn and capsicum in the quesadilla. Coffee was good but that was about it.

Great to have sunny day in the winter and enjoy the good food from olive’s !! love my hot chocolate, you need to ask them to make it for you! Thanks, will come again!!!
Loue
Apart from the amazing service from all the staff, this place has fantastic valued breakfast 2 eggs of your choice on toast for $7.99 and try the potato hot cakes. Nice coffee too.
Shaun Ross
Busy location. Was waiting for table to be cleared after making a booking. Was catering towards my small puppy. Food was nice. Corn fritter was over cooked but still tasty
Hardeep Macfarlane
Delicious, crispy on the outside and smooth and sweet on the inside! The staff were really friendly too. The person at the counter was very friendly and welcoming!
TJ
A really nice cafe. A little bit too busy for my taste but their coffee wins it all. Yum! Only tried their muffins but next time I'm definitely trying something new for lunch.
Anne
my rate is 3.5
Nice atmosphere and food was everage.

I was quite disappointed about the chocolate frappe wasn’t cold enough and has no flavour. otherwise good.
Hollie Davenport
Nice location, average food and especially dont go here if your looking for healthy options like I was. Ordered the harissa chicken salad and asked for the dressing on the side. Chicken was nice, the dressing below average quality thankfully not on the salad, but it was ruined by the oil laden kale on top. Okay coffee, okay service, below average in a whole.
Cass Finlayson
Had only been to Oliver’s for breakfast until recently. This small cafe is always packed both inside and out on the pavement. Ordered a bottle of wine, nachos & the burrito and certainly wasn’t disappointed!

◽Great Service
◽Good coffee
◽Ice cold water

We popped in here today after a run, it was busy!
But we were served very quickly.

We ordered 2 kids burger and chips, fish and chips and an adults burger.

All in the all the food was pretty good. Not 5 star worthy but good.
Coffee was spot on and arrived quick.

Would def come here again!
Mary
I've read the reveiws here and really struggling to understand. I ordered a burrito and it was terrible. 17.00 for a completely basic plain chicken wrap cut in half. Chicken not even mexican seasoned with sliced tomato lettuce cheese and sliced avo. I honestly could have made it at home. You do not put lettuce in burrito and then heat it.... The only thing Mexican about the dish was the 50 cent size side salsa. Maybe their breakfasts are better but sorry not for me. It was also minimum filling.. my wrap than anything....
Carol
I’m only give a three because I have never eaten here, but the coffee is always yummy. Ok need more reds for the review to be uploaded that’s why
I written ng this sentence

This is one of the better location in Orewa, across from the beach and it always seems to be busy. When you enter it has a nice vibe with a friendly welcome. The staff were efficient and friendly with water being brought to our table.

We ordered two Eggs Benedict, a berry pancakes, a kids pancakes, with coffee and juice.

The coffee and food were all reasonable with the poached eggs cooked perfectly, but I found the hollandaise sauce too salty.

The total bill came to $84.27 which is on the high side and for this reason will probably not come often with the kids. Would recommend for couples.
Eilish Emery
The staff here are so lovely and friendly! Love their Mexican section of the menu, especially the burrito. Coffee is yum and the outdoor seating is great opposite the beach.
Kath Fryer
Lovely breakfast menu the eggs benedict with salmon and GF hash browns was so good, Murray finished his berry pancakes before I got a taste. The wait staff were prompt and friendly. Glad we were recommended this cafe.
Amy Harris
Been here a few times now, and the food is amazing. I always order the corn fritters because they are my favourite, but would be keen to try more off the menu. Good view, quick service :)
Danielle Teixeira
The location is of course perfect. Right in the heart of Orewa. I have never had a terrible meal here. Whilst nothing exceptional, it is a nice Cafe for lunch with mum. Very pricey however 🙁
Bonita Tiamo
It was a Saturday afternoon and it was moderately busy. Food came out quickly. Service was good. Nice food and ambience.

We got two dishes. The beef burger and nachos. Nachos were really nice!!!! Decent sized portions aswell :) The thing that let the meal down was how the beef burger pattie was really burnt.
Rebecca
Food looked amazing but was horrible! Smoothies are like blended milk with a bit of flavouring put in and the eggs Benedict is a waste of money! Says they come with spinach and got about 4 leaves and the gf hashcakes are awful. Would never go back.
Julia Louise
Had breakfast here. Good friendly fast service. Poached eggs cooked perfectly and nicely presented, tasty food. Cafe was reasonably busy and the food came out quickly. There is also a good selection of food for those with dietary needs - gluten free, dairy free, vege options. Nice selection of leaf teas. Very reasonable prices. Would visit again.

Our favourite Cafe in Orewa for breakfast and lunch. For us earlybirds they open at 7am. The staff, service, food is excellent and we have never had anything to grumble about.

It was my partners 30th so we thought we would drive out to orewa for the day from Auckland and have brunch with limited places to eat we found this little place seemed quite busy and was opposite the beach so we sit down to order we get drinks food arrives promptly so excited to get in to my fish to be disappointed the fish was so small and wasn't to fresh so kind of put a downer on the day
Hemant Wagh
Went this morning for a late coffee and breakfast. The coffee was very nice so were the eggs bacon n mushrooms. The service too was friendly and warm.
EFHibiscus
Really great coffee and breakfasts! Inviting, friendly smiles from workers. Decent pricing for everything. Would definitely come back again!

I've been to this place a few times and is """a far cry of what it used to be like""the coffee food and service is of a very high standard,The location just tops it off, nice to observe staff having a good focus on the job at hand

Amazing Beautiful staff and delicious food. I cannot help but wonder what my life would have been like had I not stumbled into this fine cafe. I have since returned to this cafe a number of times since my initial entrance and left with a smile on my face.
Michaela
Service was slow after eating, took a while to clear plates and then ask about desserts and coffees. It is not a busy day at Oliver's today as only 5/20 tables are full. Some of my company said the food was nice others said the food was average. But all in all might be back.
Nicola Saseve
My son's eggs were partially raw and my eggs Benedict eggs were also very slimy and raw. I sent both back but my eggs Benedict still arrived partially raw and my bacon was under cooked and chewy.
Tasha Maloney
Excellent takeaway coffees, fast friendly service and the date scones so yum. Light and tasty. We will be returning for sure. Can't wait to try something off the menu.
Tan.ned
Went here for a quick brunch and they served THE best french toast I've ever had! Also. I like their soy hot chocolate and the fact that it comes with a small little brownie. However, not a big fan of their chicken cranberry and brie panini...overall, good vibes, friendly staff. O! And I highly recommend their banoffee pies! Yum!
Jarrod Yap
Happy with the overall quick experience at oliver . My vegetarian friends vegetables salad had chicken it but it was delicious anyway. Nice outdoor seating.

Brunch at Oliver's February 21st, corn fritters fantastic, service excellent, view awesome. Thank you.
Purchased Chilli sauce for a 'discerning' son-in-law and grand-daughter - didn't listen, splashed it on - and nearly exploded! They now say it was great but use more discretion with application.
The coffin-shaped packaging not to be ignored.

Great food, generous portions. Delicious coffee frappe. Great location. And it was fab to have live music too. It satisfied my hunger after walking the Te Ara Tahuna estuary7.5km walkway.
Eve
Food was great. A bit on the expensive side but at least the quality of food is high. The hot chocolate was really nice too. I had French toast n it was delicious. Also the cakes on display looks real yum. Will definitely try it when I go back there. :-D
Carolyn Fox
Went here for breakfast yesterday not only was it amazingly expensive for the amount of food we got, we had to stop at McDonald's on the way back to the motel because the kids were starving. $9.90 for 1 piece of french toast, a drizzle of maple syrup and a bit of cream, never again. We had to share our breakfast with the kids and still make a stop for more food. Our amazing dinner at a wonderful restaurant in Orewa the night before had cost less than this breakfast and we were all chocka by the time we had finished it.

Fantastic service! I was greeted by cheerful smily staff who sat our table of 6 quickly and took great care of us. The food was great and the coffees were nice and hot! I will defiantly be coming back again.

Great job!

I was also told a new menu was coming soon, cant wait to try it!
Bill Falzone
Awesome hot cross buns!greatservice and perfect coffee. Would recommend on a sunny day to sit and enjoy the views.

----- 30 Dec, 2011 -----

Great food, friendly staff and incredible coffee. Small venue with outdoor seating. Recommend especially on a sunny day.
Catherine
Never again the coffee was so bad, Burnt and bitter and the food really expensive for what i got.
Ian
Oh what a horrid place...
Staff were almost on another planet and showed no interest in being there.. You would think people would be happy to have a job in this day in age..
Food was average and very slow, coffee even slower and one of the worst coffees I have ever had..

Sorry not much else I can say.. Buyer beware..
Tiffany Cater
Cakes and slices are lovely, but both my husband's and my coffees were burnt.
Chelsea
Took my Mum here for lunch - her pumpkin soup was inedible (she thought it had tomatoes in it) - how can you go wrong with that? My quiche thingee was dull. On the flipside I have had parsnip cake there which was delicious. There seems to be a lot of staff but no one seems very happy to be there?
Joan
I only give it one star because you can't give zero!

I have stopped by Oliver's a few times over the past few months but recently it has been utter s**t for lack of better words. I threw my last coffee out it was so yuck and it would not hurt for the gentlemen serving to smile! I won't be returning, or recommending.
Orly Bar
Went to Oliver's with husband for lunch. Had the corn fritters - what a disappointment... The fritters were dry and tasteless. Luckily there was bacon on the plate to save the day and add some saltiness to make them edible. And for the stack there was not enough sour cream or relish. The coffee was average, but who wants an average coffee when coffee prices are rising up quicker than the price of petrol?? Service is very average and smiles are hard to come by with.
I'd say that the only wow thing that Oliver's going for them is their OUTDOOR seating and their mini slice nut brownie that is being served with their coffee (unfortunately, they do not want to sell it by itself!)
I visited Oliver's twice - first and last time. Sorry, I'd rather spend my $40 lunch somewhere else...
Chris
Soup was Awesome, bread wonderful, great bacon eggs bene - best ever! Service was 100% Great friendly happy staff. Top job, we will be back, 15 out of 10! Thanks Olivers.
Mike
Food was quite awful. We had the big breakfast, the bacon was dry and burnt and the poached eggs were hard boiled, terrible. The sausages were dry and pre cooked... for the price i would expect a whole lot better quality. We actually dined at olivers at an earlier date and the food was ok but things have really gone downhill. And the service has a lot to be desired also the coffee needs a lot of work...robyn the owner made our coffee and i would have expected a good brew but not so today...Sorry olivers you have lost me i will be going to mosaic from now on
Daniel
It started off being greeted by a friendly and happy blonde haired young man (not the one with dread locks, he looked grumpy and didn't really want to be there).

Happy to take our order for two egg Benedict and coffee's.

Coffee's and meals turned up promptly with a good amount of hollandaise sauce and product on the plate.

While chowing down our meals I was impressed with the customer service given by another young staff member to some other customers wishing to change
table.

Will be back again for sure and hopefully dreadlock guy is happier and more engaged with customers.
Claire
I thoroughly enjoyed the berry and yogurt muffin - it was divine. However, my flat white coffee was very watery and tasteless, despite being presented beautifully.
Miles
I have never had a bad experience with Oliver's. The staff are youthful and happy to help and the coffee is simply superb. The prices are very reasonable, and the young lad and the owner make some of the best coffees I have ever had.

See you soon for my latte!
Bonnie Jobe
We visited Olivers 9.30am Saturday 10th July. Very funky cafe, vibrant young staff, lots of customers... unfortunately our takeaway drinks left us extremely disappointed. Our order of 1 hot choc & 2 vanilla latte cost $13.60... hot choc served in large cup, vanilla latte served in small? Coffee was also burnt, so much so that we couldn't drink it.
Hans Van Hutten
Had lunch there on Wednesday the 30th of June 2010. The place was busy. The staff were friendly and the service good. The food was tasty and good value for money. Highly recommend if you are looking for a place to eat in Orewa.
Lorena Bailey
Olivers has the most welcoming staff in Orewa. The food is great and the coffee always hot and well presented. It would be difficult to match the hospitality and food anywhere in the area.
Cathy
Olivers has all the boxes ticked for a great cafe, location on the beach, provides a chilled out funky atmosphere.
Great food with talented baristas, Olivers stands out from the rest in a competitive industry.
