Review Casablanca Orewa - Orewa

Alex Zharkov
Very warm customer service. Food was delicious and meals were huge. We could not eat everything up and the staff packed our food into takeaway boxes without any problem. When in Orewa will definitely come by.
Lili Mann
Food quality is good, and decent portion sizes. The pulled lamb should have had more sauce and less tahini, and the pita bread had too much oil on it. However the food was still excellent, wait times are reasonable, service is good and nice location, so worth visiting again.

Outstanding food and service we love this place the meals are good size and Services good. The food is very authentic and fresh. They also had a nice outdoor seating area
Mandy Slater
Excellent meal and good service. Lots of tasty choices on the menu. Tagines on special on a Monday night. Meatballs delicious. Food presented well. Great decor. Will go again.

Nice restaurant with delicious food. There's outdoor seatings as well. The layout of the place is simple and the furnitures are unique. Ordered a Scotch fillet, Cherkez Chicken and lunch plate with lamb. Tasteful dishes with different kind of spice. Suitable for family and friends to gather around. Toilets are clean but a bit small.

Casablanca captures exceedingly well the mood of Morocco. Spacious with an authentic decor, the dining is a tasty experience with rich and original flavours augmented by Spanish and African influences, all in one place. The tagine dishes are especially flavoursome, with mild and spicy options. The lamb shanks tagine I tried was excellent. Table service is above average but above all the kitchen really does the job. Highly recommended for a nice change.

We celebrated a birthday lunch there today. Very nice friendly atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food!
Kamya
It was some of the best Mediterranean food I have ever eaten!!! The portion sizes were really big and everything tasted incredible, highly recommend! Also make sure you get their lemonade, it was so delicious.

Was on my way to have some good time in Orewa and visited Casablanca by coincidence, and it was lovely visit. The restaurant is clean and the staff were nice. We had the lamb shank dish (two shanks for 36, WOW!). The platter was big and can feed 2-3 persons even. Me and my wife enjoyed it along with the juices we ordered. The value for money was really satisfying for us
JUN SI JUNG
Delicious food and friendly service, it's the best
Justine Trim
Food and ambiance was very good, but our dessert was forgotten about and had to ask about it.
Aaron Muir
Great meal, plenty of food and good mix of flavours. Good atmosphere. Staff lacked a little bit of knowledge, but all in all great meal and time.
Noah Barclay
The owner was so kind. He was very polite and welcoming and it was a great dining experience. The food was great and the service was amazing. 5 stars. Thank you.

Very good taste, great hummus, nothing too salty even not the olives, beautiful plating.
Ibrahim El Badawi
Warm and cosy Moroccan / Turkish atmosphere and friendly staff! I tried the Turkish baklava and it was good - though limited varieties!
Claudia Van Heerden
Always an great experience and the food is amazing!!! Make a booking not to be disappointed as they are very popular.

Took my boyfriend there for dinner. It was absolutely amazing! We were seated straight away and given table water. We ordered drinks that within minutes was served to us. The food was finger licking good and arrived promptly after we ordered it. The portions were generous but to the point where I was full without feeling bloated. We decided to treat ourselves with dessert which was the best decision of the night. They were sooo decadent and delicious. Although the staff were young they were all polite and more than capable. My favourite restaurant in Auckland. 10/10 would recommend.

Went to a Mediterranean Cafe and Bar and had to listen to indian music the whole time, then the cappuccino large on a takeaway cup my wife ordered came on a small cup, we mentioned a large takeaway cup and came on a small size, the 3rd time when they finally brought what we asked for, it was so bad she had 2 sips only. The food was ok, nothing too flash. Overall experience was not good as we aimed for another thing and ended up with Indian music and smell plus we had to go to coffe club to get a decent capuccino. 53 dollars for a light brunch wasn't enjoyable.

Walking in we lunch bed the atmosphere - we sat in one of the booths which was nice. Drinks were great. However the food was a bit disappointing. I had the lamb lunch plate and expected something completely different. My husband was crazy about his pizza thingy. Hopefully it was just wrong choices on our part. Maybe we’ll give the place another go.

Had a great meal last night. It was my 50th birthday so was special occasion! Waitress gave me complimentary turkish delight. Lovely ladies who waited on us. Thank you.
Tania Rowe
Great service, fast and friendly. Water glasses kept topped up, great on a hot day. Food was fabulous, nice size portion and very tasty. Really enjoyed the NED Pinot Gris too.
Caleb Rentoul
Best sit and dine meals i've ever had, I would rate every meal i had at least a 8.5 or above, friendly staff and everything, I only rarely tip but it was well deserved
Michelle Hanley
Second time eating here in two days.. food is amazing. Our family of 5 all ate until near popping. Staff are really nice and friendly. Todays new waiter did a fantastic job Water is not nice though. It tasted like luke warm tap water. And served one small glass to last our stay. I was very thirsty throughout my meal but staff were extremely busy so i didnt call on them. Chilled and left on our table so we could help ourselves would have been lovely.
Jo Buck
My meal was pretty disappointing, was recommended the tangine but there was just a small bit of chicken in a watery stock with some couscous on the side, not very filling and for $28.50 I expected more. Lovely atmosphere though, staff could be more attentive with drinks and topping up water. Much prefer the lunch menu so will return for that but not dinner.
Belinda Ferrante
We had a group of nine and turned up without a booking but were seated promptly and without fuss. Staff were polite and efficient and food was amazingly good. Highly recommend a visit

Just wanted to say what a beautiful meal we all had today as part of a birthday celebration. I will definitely be back. ...the coffee and fig mousse is the best dessert I have ever eaten!! Thanks again
Kerry Howard
I went to Casablanca today by a friends recommendation- absolutely faultless service and food was fast and delicious! Best hot chocolate I have ever had!
Maurice Murphy
Great venue never fails to meet expectations thoroughly recommend
Samantha Louise Ewa Majewicz
Awesome! The chef was amazing & dealt with my weird dietary requests so I could have a yummy meal! Pan fried fish & Greek salad was perfectly personalised ! But I was very jealous of my mums lamb tagine & mint tea!!!!! xx
Murray Job
Stunning food, well worth a nice leisurely drive to Orewa... I'm not kidding, a beautiful meal !!!
Cal Grieve
Great service and friendly staff. Food took a while to come out for mains but it was worth the wait!! Actually had to read the menu for once to understand the food journey! The burger is amazing!

Went there for birthday treat. Great menu ,very tasty food and good service although the we picked a very busy time. Very friendly helpful staff and fascinating watching the chefs at work.
Yogita Patel
Had lunch at this place today.Good food and service. Quantity food is good too. Recommended
Christine Anna
Had a well priced dinner of over cooked scotch fillet skewers with dry, lumpy mashed potato. My son didn't enjoy his chicken either. Lunch at Kuzina up the road was a million times better! Disappointing.

Came here for a cheeky lunch date today. I have been to the other restaurant in Sylvia Park and really enjoyed it so was excited to give Orewa a go. One waiter working but he did a fantastic job with serving, cleaning up and more - we had the Morrocan beef burger and tomato bread with bacon and avacado. While the prices are high (expected with the area) the food was fast, fresh and yummy. Would recommend if you are in the area and feel like Mediterranean.
Rex Chen
Generous portions, lamb shank is delicious, friendly service and staff , good for kids. Highly recommend to all diners

Weak. Try taking some spices in your pocket if you want to taste anything.

The blandest 'Turkish' food I've had the displeasure of eating.

The Squid entrée - Rubbery MESS of nothing. Cold. Knew we were probably making a mistake being there at that stage.

The Lamb Tagine - Overcooked shanks swimming in a bowl of water.

The Chicken Kebab - Lukewarm at best. Chicken overcooked. Terrible portion size.

2 drinks later - $97. What a rip off.

If there's one thing I hope occurs out of the pandemic mess is that 'restaurants' who can't offer quality, are moved on and make space for those who want to succeed, not just exist, in such a prime retail spot.

We went there for lunch with Zomato Gold offer. The food was delicious. We ordered lamb shank (2 portions) and Scott fillet kebabs. The lamb shank was so good and portion was huge. Good quality food. Service was friendly.
The ambience and deco are unique and nice. The only thing is the place is too warm. We went during lunch time. It was a hot day. We didn't seat outdoor and hoping it would be more cooling under the shade indoor. So we sat next to a big window. It was so hot. No cooling system or whatsoever. Even the manager and staff serving us were very sweaty themselves. Their shirts were soaking wet with sweat. It would be great if they can do something to improve this. Otherwise, it would be the perfect place to go.

Food quality is good, and decent portion sizes. The pulled lamb should have had more sauce and less tahini, and the pita bread had too much oil on it. However the food was still excellent, wait times are reasonable, service is good and nice location, so worth visiting again.
John Wallace
We both had Lahmajuns for lunch and as always they were very tasty and filling.......for a light lunch, one is enough to share. Very pleasant sitting outside looking over the bay and watching the world go by. We will return.
Prinesh Chand
Some of the best food I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, amazing sauces. Good service.
Aireena Omar
Discovered this place by accident on the way back to Auckland and couldn’t be happier! The lamb tagine was delicious, with the meat falling off the bone.

-1 star due to the portion of the chicken kebabs.
I used Zomato gold so didn’t feel as robbed but for those who don’t have it and are paying $30 a pop for two skewers and mash... it really isn’t worth it.

Otherwise friendly service and good ambience.
Alice In New Zealand
So good to use Zomato gold here. I also had turkey coffee! Was interesting. Kind staff
Foodie Dudie
The place is really nice especially after had a hiking on a beautiful New Zealand weekend. The staff is friendly and the food is good.
Bhavik M. Shah
It was a wonderful experience, with comfortable and cosy seating environment. We were served very well, the food was fullfilling and good in taste. I took a small piece of baklava as a takeaway, it was perfect for my dessert craving..

Yesterday for the first time in ten years passing along. Been living in Morocco ...Casablanca is facing the Atlantic ! Choice and food correct but unclean and approximative !
Joanne Bright
Every good thing I have read about Casablanca is 100% true. Delicious meatballs and spanakopita. Taste and presentation top notch. We’ll definitely be back

We've tried the branch in Sylvia Park, Auckland before and it was consistently good. This was the first time we tried the Orewa branch and it certainly held up the high standard. I ordered Beef Cheek Tagine and hubby ordered the Beef Kebab. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and generously portioned. We were so full from the main meal that we could only each manage a small piece of Baklava for dessert. It was good, too. Crispy upper layers of pastry with pistachio crumbs in the middle and sweet pastry on the base. I'd highly recommend this restaurant.
Jason Lear
We enjoyed an early family dinner at this popular Orewa restaurant. We enjoyed beef cheek tagine which was melt in the mouth, Istanbul street food pizza and Greek Meatball dishes along with Bedouin lamb which were all delicious. We enjoyed wonderful, attentive service and the ambience which was colorful and comfortable.
Jessica Harvey
I'm so glad we have places in Orewa now on Zomato Gold. I hadn't been to Casablanca in a while but due to Zomato Gold we decided to go. What a success! The food was absolutely delicious, the music was vibey and the service was quick. I've been reminded about this great dinner option we have in Orewa!
Emily Cao
Looks good, but the waiting is a bit long. Recommend the salad with lamb. It's a comfortable environment overall. It's a pleasant experience overall.
Melissa Jillings
A delicious meal with great service - even though he was a little begrudging when he realised we were using Zomato Gold! Looking forward to going back - yum!
Thomas Wang
Fantastic food! Chicken cooked to perfection. Generous portion. One of the best chicken kebabs I had in the Northshore. Nice food presentation. Friendly staff.
Maddy Gollogly
Amazing food and service! Staff were very attentive and friendly. I had the Cyprus salad and it was delicious and the portion size was huge. Great value for money, would definitely return
Karina
Come here a lot and the food is always good and fresh. I've tried quite a few things off the menu and my family and I and come here quite frequently. Food has really good presentation as-well. Definitely recommend :)
Brayden Versey
Very rude and blunt waitress terrible service did not take our orders for a very long time and did not come back to the table once after that, never offered us drinks and the moroccan burger very bland. How ever i tried the other meals on our table the soup was fantastic aswell as the lamb chops
Holly Keogh
Disappointed in the quality.
I ordered a chicken tagine, the chicken was dry even tho its surrounded in lots of tagine sauce. The tagine sauce tasted beautiful, but the tagine had literally only 2 small pieces of carrots. The dish was advertised as having preserved lemon, but the dish had a piece of fresh orange and no lemon. A few olives here and there but please next time deliver on what you advertised.
Fish and chips were way over priced for what was delivered, it was very below average.
I understand it was a busy time of day but for the price, it was below average.

I feel so bad for the waitresses, they had so many tables to look after but there was only two of them.

Probably will not visit again.
We celebrated a birthday lunch at this place. Always very busy and have to pre-book. Very nice friendly atmosphere, staff are always smiling and approachable, not to mention delicious food! Quite authentic Middle Eastern flavour I think ...not bad at all!! ;-)

We had a great night with friends. Lovely atmosphere and good service from the staff. We had the platter and added sides and salads. Sooo much food. Definitely returning soon.

Have been here a few times in the past however came here on Friday night for some drinks and a meal and we won't be coming back. The man who greeted us was great to say hi and seat us. We ordered calimari as a starter and the platter as a main with chips. Drinks came out fast then the calimari, it was a tiny amount for $16, it smelt like fish and was very chewy (generally goes chewy when overcooked) . We couldn't eat it so passed on to the waitress why. The platter was good but it's never a good sign when the chips were the best part. Its never great to leave feeling like you haven't had your moneys worth. I really hope these comments help casablanca to improve to the standards you used to hold.
Leeanne Wilson
Dined here as everywhere else was busy on this night. Always enjoyed meals in past but sadly the food did not leave up to previous standards. Food was nice but the Calamari mezze definitely not worth $16.50
Don’t think I’ll dine here again
Food 3/5
Service 3/5

Mike G.
Nice ambience and very retro style

Front of house staff very slow. Very focused on computer screens and not service. Took a while to get order made and Asian lady is very abrupt and not a good hospitality person

(Note i have a huge role in tourism and hospitality at the highest levels.. this person isnt a front of house personality) all these comments are how to turn a potentially good business from disaster

Ordered.

Garlic and tomato bread with side crushed avo bacon and egg
Citron chicken
Steak fries

Food arrived in timely manner.

Garlic and Tomato. Was nice. But bread in small slices is horrendously hard. Thicker was good
Citron chicken was very strongly flavoured in Ras El Hanout. But consistency was watery. Couscous was well cooked. A tangine preparation should be like a sauced eartern prepared dish not a Broth or a Laksa.

After 35 mins gave up on steak fries. Again our waiting staff member negated to apologise again for error.. despite reconfirming order back at time and even clarifying what fries.

Ordered additional Fattoush with chicken. Fattoush was fresh and well made.

Pointers.

Front of house staff make or kill your business. Wrong person in a big way.
House staff who dont record order upset clients who order food
A smile, an apology when things go wrong goes a long way. Arrogance or snapping menus off people shows you neither care nor should be in hospitality.

As leaving i noticed all other cafes are brimming and Casablanca is at 15% capacity. The signs are there.

Food wise this place is a 3/5
Service sadly a 1/5

Bailey Moffitt
Real cool atmosphere and one of the only places in orewa that always has people in it. But the food I found was bland, the pizza had very little taste as did my partners lamb cutlets... in that respect it was disappointing but otherwise it’s a nice place and everyone else was happy with their meal (pretty much everything else on the menu).
JPK
Will definitely try again as I love the location. In front of beautiful Orewa beach.
Nice ambience... Cheerful staff and pretty good service.
Presentation of food is good. Kids enjoyed kids meal except falafel balls were little hard and dry for my little one. Lamb and chicken dishes were good.
Only less satisfaction with one dish... Vegetarian tangine. Overload of Tamarind made it hard to eat after eating around 1/4th of the full potion.
Vicky Lowe

Loved this place food was spot on

Great atmosphere great location and great service.

will definately be back would love to try other dishes.

Blackpearl
Their portion sizes are hugee! We ordered their prawn salad, cyprus salad and moorish eggs. Love their prawn salad, cyprus salad is a tad too sour for our liking. Moorish eggs are quite heavy and tomato-ey, but we enjoyed our time there. Service was friendly.
Fraze
A charming and authentic dining experience. This is a favorite place for my girlfriend and I when we want something healthy and delicious. I highly recommend the mixed platter and the calamari which is always fresh and perfectly cooked. They also mix a mean cocktail!
Sam Jones
Casablanca restaurant always provides great food and service and you are never rushed. The meals are of a good size and are nicely presented. Whatever you order always is fresh and full of flavour. Restaurant has a nice ambience.
Ria Van Dyke
I first visited Casablanca Orewa just over a year ago - and I have been here almost every week since!

The food is incredible, the staff are warm and welcoming, the restaurant has a wonderful Moroccan-style ambience - and don't even get me started on their sangria!

If you're visiting Orewa or you're a local - this is the place to be!
Luke Swasbrook
So good! Great atmosphere, really tasty food and good size portions. The staff were friendly and observant! Will definitely return! Thanks for a great time!
Food_adikt
A nice day out at Casablanca. Nice and inviting place. Food was good. Service was a tad slow however, understandably it was due to the lunch rush
Dini
The food is fantastic, the location is beautiful, and a walk on the beach afterwards is definitely recommended. The service is always really good and the menu is great. Definitely highly recommended.
SLM
We went in for dessert and coffee on valentine’s day they used to do the best chocolate and fig mousse, it was on the menu I ordered it - so disappointed light coffee coloured cream arrived with raspberry’s nothing like the mousse of old, (yuck springs to mind) grumpy welcome from a guy who obviously didn’t enjoy his job, can’t say I’ll race back here either - sigh
Jess
Tasty food, nice staff in general. We had grumpy waiter serving the last time we went, but just thought that he was having a bad day. The food was quite new for me - enjoyed learning new flavors.
Danny James
Been here a number of times and have always found the staff very good. The food is authentic and consistently well done. The restaurant itself is also laid out well adding to the vibe and ambiance of the place as well as enhancing the authenticity of the menu.
Will definitely be back.
Viyola Dsouza
Nice atmosphere, located opposite Orewa beach.
Friendly staff and very generous portions.
Our lunch was delicious - Morish eggs, Chicken kebabs.
Kaylene Jessin
I've never eaten this type of food before, but this restaurant has left me a good impression. The main thing that drew me into this place was the interior, it's very a homely and welcoming atmosphere. The food took a while, but I don't blame them as the place was packed. Our food tasted fresh and the portions were very fulfilling, I couldn't finish my pizza.

If I could ever come to this restaurant again, I would :)
Ronel Kapp
Warm welcoming interior , good decor. Nice to have sidewalk tables for those lovely summer days. Pleasant service. I decided on the falafel lunch plate for a light lunch. If the falafels were a bit more moist it would have been a satisfying, filling meal. I had a taste of my dining partner's Citron Chicken Tagine, all the flavours worked well together and i will definitely order that on my next visit.
Oksana Zhang
The authentic interior was the first thing that struck me about here!

I ordered the Lamb Fattoush, and my friend ordered the Cherkez Chicken. Both were so good! The Lamb Fattoush was fresh and well-flavoured, portion also huge! I didn't even finish it (normally I would have devoured it)! The walnuts added another dimension of texture.
The Cherkez Chicken was amazing, and the cream cheese sauce was rich and creamy; there needs to be more of it on the plate!

Would definitely come back here again if I ever get the chance to!

Price: 10/10
Food: 9/10
Ambience: 10/10
Service: 8/10
Glutenfreecakes.co.nz
This restaurant is an example of great, consistent and exceptional food and service. There is a separate gluten-free menue and the staff know what they are talking about. Many vegetarian options and the atmosphere is perfect, overlooking the beach. Excellent.

Mall cafes are always average so we didnt expect much but this place was amazing!!
From the interesting decor and ambience to the delicious food
We got the lentil soup which was so good
And omg the BREAD. I nearly asked if they make their own bread or if they supply it coz I wanted some -it was that good
Also got the haloumi burger which was nice- came with a salad and some chips
Great portions for price and delicious
Id def come here the next time I am in Slyvia Park
Lisa Kent
Had a work lunch here couple of weeks ago. Nice food, not every meal was delicious but quick service for lunch time & those that didnt love their meals would happily go back & try a different dish. Great spot with views of the beach.
Lin Saunders
we go here quite a bit but last meal there has put us off, my greek meatballs were hard and a bit tasteless, other two people had the mussels, you really must clean them first, not a good look trying to dig them out of the shells then pulling the beard out of everyone! we,ll stick to drinks and nibbles
John-Ray Tait
Great location, atmosphere, staff, service and decor. The food is authentic and great tasting. And its not over priced, a real winner, and its totally recommended!
Michelle
We usually go to the Sylvia park branch but thought to try the one on the coast for a change.
Food was really good. We had coffee, Hubby moorish eggs and I had the Turkish mince. First time I had that one and it was really good. Seeing that we live closer to this branch we will definitely be visiting more often.
Mystery Shopper
Stopped in with the folks after a day out, service was great, meals came in good time, good vibe but can get quite loud when things get busy, food was ok but thought a little overpriced for what you get as well as desserts.
Vik Singh
Bit expensive for us but have been there a few times and enjoyed it for sure... best hummus, haloumi and falafal in town I recon ... excellent location ..
Dale
Went here for the first time. Lovely service and very tasty food including a large gluten free menu which was good for some of the guests. Jordan Hummus with chicken serving size was a bit small and could do with a side salad but all in all everything tasted and smelled divine
Heather
My third time eating out at Casablanca. Cherkez chicken and skewered scotch fillet are my favs. Although the food tasted different the last time we went (went earlier during the day - maybe the chef is different during the day?). Overall a nice place to dine at, although a little more attention from the waiter would have been nice...
Chris Kenedi
Beautiful space, design wise and view of the water. Friendly though somewhat incompetent staff (took 2 people 3 tries to get our order, hard to get water refills. Turkish coffee arrived cold, juice arrived warm.

Food wise, haloumi side barely grilled, Spanikopita literally had no spinach in 1 and almost none in the other - just greasy filo. Insane for the price. If the staff had been better I would have asked them. Instead just gave up.

Lamb shank was surprisingly good. With a nice sauce, beautifully roasted vegetables, nicely plated. A stark contrast.

Caramel cake was dry, creme out of a spray can.

Picky perhaps but would expect more at $74 for 2 people with no alcohol
MariaJ
We stopped in here for dinner, straight away the wait staff were very helpful and friendly and very accomodating to my two seven year olds. Food was delicious and fast. We enjoyed our meals and experience that we came back for breakfast the next day. Recommend Casablanca to anyone.
Yorkshire Pudding
The food here is excellent, super fresh flavours, easy to share serving sizes, well pieced together dishes bursting with zesty, Mediterranean flavours - perfect any time of the day.
The wine list has an average selection but very reasonable prices (though we don't often leave the big city)
The place seems to mix cafe with restaurant rather well but the lighting is still a little high in the evenings, having this lower with candles on tables would really give it more appeal in the evenings rather than remind you that you're dining in a licensed cafe.
The only thing that lets this place down is the service, our immediate waitress was pleasant, young, didn't seem very interested in interaction other than the formalities. The waitress serving our next table served a glass of wine with her hand all over the top of the glass (huge bug of mine) and the manager who settled out bill was surprisingly rude, huffing when we asked to settle, offering no conversation and even handing me back my card without the expected thank you.
All this place needs is decent, experienced management who can improve service and it could be amazing. At the moment the hard work of the kitchen seems to be shadowed by what's lacking on the floor.
Mel Bannister-Miller
21st May - Lunchtime.

We were seated straight away, away from the weather (very cold day). Our waitress was very attentive, menus handed out straight away, drinks ordered and brought to our table within 10mins of sitting down.

My husband ordered the French Toast. My kids ordered Fish & Chips and Chicken & Chips, I ordered the Chicken Fattoush.

Our wait for our meals was around 20 minutes, they came out well presented and hot. My daughters Fish & Chips was interesting. The Fish had been pan friend (no batter). My sons chicken bites were a little spicy, I'm not sure if some children would be able to eat them, he managed too though, with the help of some water.

No dessert was ordered.

I will definitely go back again, I can't believe I waited so long to go. Very impressed.

Wow what an overated establishment!
Came here Mid Jan with friends and all found the food underwhelming. Then most recently last Thursday, family had booked Dad in for his birthday. He had the meatballs and found them bland ( not finishing his dish )
I had the squid and being a fisherman i appreciate fresh, this wasnt and had the ammonia fish smell- i left my meal and being in a good mode for Dads birthday didnt comment to waiter. I paid the bill for our complete table feeling very ripped off and even my mom who is is ez goin couldnt wait to get out!
Overated and over valued ...place a shame as so close to us on beach
Carol Baylis
Amazing place to go with good food and pleasant staff. Had never been there before. I had the scotch fillet kebab on a bed of mashed spud with salsa and a bit of aioli on top, very tasty.
Victoria
Delicious!
The food here is absolutely amazing, so flavourful and unique. Never tried anything quite like it before.
Combined with the warm and welcoming staff and the beautiful decor, you'll enjoy every aspect of your visit here!
Winnie
Amazing place for breakfast with the view of the sea (almost the sea). Had the best french toast here. Berries and poached apple french toast, i mean whats not to like. The halloumi cheese was done just right on the bruschetta. Dint like the morish eggs (dint do it for me). But to each of its own.
Nice staff, ready to customise your order.
Pricewise: $40 for 2 people including coffee
Will i return: Cant find a reason to say no to a lazty breakfast.

Went back for a summer lunch with friends. The food was as amazing as the last time. Tried the Dolma, veg tagine, jordan chicken hummus. The description in the menu is the exact replica of what one would receive on plate. To finish everything off, also had the english tea and affagato with a baileys shot. Yumm end to a beautiful summer lunch. I will be back again and again.
Kelly Sanderson
We have been here a few times now and each time our meal and overall experience has been really good. They are always busy so booking is ideal but each time we have walked in and managed to get a table. This isn't the type of restaurant we would normally take our children but we stopped in here one time with our young children after the Orewa Santa Parade and were made to feel very welcome. I love the overall atmosphere and that it is so close to Orewa beach. Will be back again on another date night soon.

Busy Thurday evening 3rd March
No one stationed to greet and seat Service 8/10 Food Breads 9/10 Main 5/10 Dessert 5/10 Value 6/10 Atmosphere 7/10 Had breads to start awesome fresh lovely dips Main lacking alot, spanakopita very dry, salad was awesome citron chicken tagine 1 peice of chicken drum and thigh with bone in $28.50 , really? Dessert dry looked like an old cheese cake tarted up with tinned pear and god knows where the ginger was, no sauce and cream from a can :/ you can really do better. $95 for 2 people getting up there, needs some work.
Lori
Amazing food and dessert!
However the service was a bit slow and unsatisfying.
I went here with a friend and we ordered Casa blanca mussels and cherkez chicken. For drinks we ordered a limonata and a coke. The mussels were splendid, with a nice seasoning and the cherkez chicken was good as always as it is one of my favourites. We ordered dessert, the baklava with two ice choclates. Lovely ice cream and sweet baklava!
Mary Underwood
I've been here before for breakfast and at the time how managment dealt with a situation made me decide if I'm ever here again I would show my support by returning.
Scorching day outside but chose to sit inside to stay cool.
Ordered the mezze platter to share. Dolimides, hummus. Butter bean salad, tzaziki to name a few. All served with pide bread.
So filling. Only gripe would to not have taramasalata on the otherwise vegetarian platter.
Polished off with an otherwise perfect affogatto. Service was perfect and managment deserve a pat on the back. Happy staff equals a very relaxing lunch.
In Orewa on such a beautiful sunny day we went to lunch at the Casablanca. The menu is Mediterranean and provides a good and varied selection for brunch/lunch. We ordered the Kumru burger, and the Moorish eggs. The Kumru burger, accompanied by a heap of shoestring fries, was a generous serving with a large chewy bun and plenty of grilled haloumi. The Moorish eggs were again a generous serving, with three eggs and a number of meat balls baked in a really tasty tomato based sauce, accompanied by a large piece of Turkish bread for mopping up the juices. The service was good, with the staff attentive to topping up the water - very welcome on such a hot day. We were also attracted by the mezze and sharing plates available, and plan revisiting to try these out.

bloody nice food. Went today in a group of about 6 for lunch. I was debating getting a full meal, but then thought the simple chicken wrap looked nice...so I ordered that with fries and aoli...it was not disappointing. It had everything on it, stuffed with chicken, hummus yogurt sauce and tabulou. Others at the table ordered the calamari, which looked divine, the pan fried fish which when eaten I did not hear a word from the consumer;) a lamb dish and the kumeru burger....I really recommend, its a perfect summers day fresh lunch with food that is healthy in size of plates but also tasty and a tad better for the waistline;)

Met a friend for lunch at Casablanca - it's a great spot across the road from the beach. We decided to sit outside as it was a nice day. It is a little cold when the wind picks up, and they do have umbrellas for shade, but there is a decent amount of inside seating as well depending on the weather.
We had a lovely lady initially looking after us - she was very friendly engaging & helpful. A bit later we had a guy take over (maybe she was on a break), he was less helpful - we had to wave him down to get additional drinks. No dessert menu, or suggestions for other food/coffees were offered.
My friend ordered the tomato on bread which was nicely done. A simple dish but a nice light meal or starter. There are options with avocado & bacon or halloumi cheese.
I ordered the lunch dish which had options of various meats or vegetarian. I chose the chicken. Meat was well seasoned & nicely cooked. Humus & yoghurt with tabouli accompanied it. Only one small piece of bread - would have been nice to have a thicker piece of bread (focaccia maybe?), or additional bread offered as it wasn't enough for the yummy sauces.
Wine list was good with a few options by the glass for each variety, although I didn't see a rose unfortunately. We chose The Ned Pinot Gris which worked well with our dishes.
Overall a good spot for lunch.
Really sophisticated place. I'm not even a vegetarian but I absolutely enjoyed the falafel dish with a glass of wine with my family. It is in a lovely area away from the crowded cities and is right by the beach. Exquisite!

Such a nice location for this restaurant, just across from the beach. Highly recommend going on a nice day and sitting outside! Delicious food and excellent, attentive service, plus our meals arrived speedily despite them being really busy. I had the eggs benedict which came with great Turkish bread, and I added a side of their house-made baked beans which were so tasty. I want to go back and be more adventurous with my order next time, their breakfast menu options look great.

Yummy I had the calamari salad and it was deliciousness...brushetta was great as was the baklava and coffee been back a couple of times and always yummy 😀

The view, decor, service, food, ambience all are of top notch! Especially the tap beers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have always been fans of Sylvia Park Casablanca and thought we'd try this place out while up in Orewa. As expected the food was delicious. The Lahmajun was a simple take on fresh street food which was super tasty and a nice change to the Mezze platter for sharing food.

Loved this place! Especially the decor of the restaurant. The food was great, I recommend trying the Tangine Lamb Shank, beautifully cooked and presented.

Happened to be around Orewa and I thought Casablanca will be a refreshing experience. But TBH I was disappointed. Ambience is great and 0.5 is for that. Food was ordinary and nothing special. Staff was friendly however when I requested to provide me with some suggestions, staff was bit clue less. The salad dish was definitely not the best except that walnut and bread crumbs did make it different from the usual Mediterranean salads. Chicken and rice was not something I would go again if I ever visit again.
However the desserts did have something different. Cheesecake with yogurt instead of cream or ice cream. And yes a Mediterranean meal isn't complete without a baklava.

My friend and I go to Casablanca for lunch whenever we're in the area. The coffee is always good and our favourite meal to have is the chargrilled calamari salad. It's definitely the best calamari I've had, and the staff are always super friendly!

Came here on a busy Sunday afternoon. Despite the business, service was fantastic - greeted immediately and water topped up throughout meal etc. I ordered the halloumi bruschetta (delicious) and my partner had the lahmajun, chips on the side. We are both Turks and rarely think highly of Turkish food that isn't made by our families(!!) but it was all fantastic. Finished off with baklava (average) and Turkish coffee (perfect). Great little place!!

We are local residents and decided that as we had 30 minutes to spare on a wet and windy Sunday we would stop in for hot drinks whilst killing time. We order 2 teas and 2 kids hot chocolates. After we had finished, we settled the bill. We did not receive an itemised bill just the overall cost bill and after leaving the restaurant realised that we may have been over-charged, only by $3, so my wife went back to check as we hadn't got too far. My wife was talking to a waitress when she was interrupted by the head waiter, who rudely told her not to talk to the waitress and he would deal with her away from where she was standing, my wife explained that the bill came to more than we thought it should and he explained that we had received 2 full hot chocolates at $4.50, my wife explained that we had ordered the kids hot chocolates and that we wouldn't know the difference between the 2 as we'd never had them before. Without looking at the menu he stated that the kids hot chocolates were $4 each graciously dipped into the tip jar and gave my wife a dollar back and sent her on her way, The kids hot chocolates are $3, so he couldn't even be bothered to get that right. As a family we will not be frequenting Casablanca in the future and we certainly won't be recommending it to our friends.

Last Saturday we had a kidless morning and decided to try this place for brunch. The menu is varied with a Spanish/Moroccan flavour. Still with the brunch favourites of eggs bene and pancakes. The food was fantastic and we definitely will try it for dinner. The only suggestion to them is the inside was a little cold and the music a little loud for a Saturday morning we sat outside under a heater.

My husband and I were looking for a place to have lunch in Orewa on a beautiful Sunday and we decided to try Casablanca as we both enjoy Morrocan food and read good reviews about that place. It was great to be able to enjoy flavours that we hadn't had in a while, the lamb tagine was gorgeous and the spanakopita very good too. I recommend Casablanca to Morrocan food lovers without any hesitation.
Food Comatose
We stumbled across this restaurant while walking down from Orewa beach, just across the road. I was impressed with the fantastic menu range of Mediterranean, Turkish, Middle Eastern, African and Moroccan cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although we sat outside on mosaic tiled tables in the sunshine, indoors was just as beautiful with hanging pictures of beaches and flowers as well as what seemed to be traditional Greek music playing in the background. The staff were very attentive and kind, with their friendly Kiwi accents.

Now for the exciting part – the food!! We ordered the lunch plate with chicken, hummus, tabouli and flatbread ($16.50) and the Casa Fish’n’Chips (or FUSH N CHUPS) – pan fried fillets served with fries, salad, lemon and aioli ($25.50). Everything was cooked perfectly, with a combination of spicy and fresh flavours. We were struggling to finish the generous servings and sure enough fell into a blissful state of comatose :) The pricing was quite reasonable for such big servings and great quality food!

I have been here a couple of times and every single time the food is outstanding and very authentic. The menu is so intriguing and it is hard to choose because everything looks so appetising. It's so nice to find a restaurant in Auckland that cooks really good mediterranean food. This place has become one of my favourites for sure.
Mikayla Plaziuk
The food was really yum and different and we liked how the place was styled as well! It's something I would never normally eat but really enjoyed! The meals and service was also really quick and the place seemed clean. All of the wait staff were lovely and smiley bar one older one with black long hair seemed rude and careless and the food is possibly over priced. But overall good food, good serving size and good atmosphere!

Best food in orewa.

I really love the Casablanca turkish restaurant in Orewa, New Zealand. They have excellant dishes and I especially like the Casa fish and Chips. I also enjoy the Lebneh. The main reason that I go there is because they have a whole gluten free menu full of delicious options. The waiters and waitresses are very polite and attentive to their customers. The cutlery and the designs are very turkish and authentic.
Kayla Smith
This is a favourite of mine. Service is great, food is outstanding. No matter how busy they still manage to serve you quickly and get it right. Orewa really needed a good restaurant and this is it.
Katharina Wulandari
I came here on a summer's fine day and found this cafe offers a comfortable space even for a family visit (with children). The interior of this cafe was also engaging with the Mediterranean style, love it. The service was also good, the waiting staffs were nice and friendly but make sure you explained your order in details to prevent any mistake.

I ordered a Kumru burger, a Mediterranean 'sandwich' they said. Came with an affordable price (under $20), this meal had an amazing taste. It was served with fresh salad with sour dressing (not sure about that, I think it was balsamic vinegar, mixed with something), and the inside were: yummy chorizo slices, fresh tomato, haloumi cheese (yum!), and some gherkins slices. The bun was also spiced with something, i don't know but tasted yum!

For the other menus, I think they were a bit expensive for me (around $20 and more) but all of them looks delicious. They also sold some slices of cake and the famous baklava.

I have to admit that it was a really satisfying lunch and I am quite happy with that. Definitely recommended to try that 'sandwich' if you are about to go to Casablanca cafe.
Janine Henderson
Wonderful restaurant. Highly recommended although may not be to everyone's tastes being strongly influenced by what I call Moroccan and Mediterranean flavours. Excellent service but suggest you book a table as they get packed reasonably priced and fantastic ambiance. If you haven't been and sick of generic restaurant menus this should be a must.
Sam Walker
Top quality service and great food. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back. If only I could remember the name of the waitress, because she did a great job.

Thank you!

I went here with my husband for my birthday on Monday. It is such a beautiful place which just in the front of Orewa beach with a lovely view. Their staff are very nice and helpful. I like the idea of kids meal. keep my little one happy and busy for 5 minutes lol. Only sad thing was the meal wasn't so delicious! The one i had called something scotch fillet. Beef was overcooked so it was dry and salad was a bit tasteless. Apart from this, I like the atmosphere of this place like the decorations and sea view. great time.

Updated review: Went to Casablanca again yesterday and experienced the same delicious food as last time. The service was excellent as well and the four of us had a great time.I am really, really impressed by this place! Tasty, fresh food and excellent service; I highly recommend Casablanca!

Previous Review: Went to Casablanca whilst visiting Orewa. Firstly, I must mention the service. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who told us to take a seat and promptly brought out menus. Soon followed free sparking water. We ordered the chicken lunch plate each and fries to share. YUM, YUM, YUM! The dish was pretty simple; chicken, flat bread, hummus, sauces and tabouli. Everything was extremely fresh and the chicken was full of flavor. The portion was the perfect size. The chips were good and came with a delicious aioli. The food and service here are excellent and for about $22 each, including a drink, this place is great value for money. The décor is also really nice and has a Mediterranean feel to it. There's also plenty of outside seating. I can't wait to go back!

My partner took me to Casablanca for dating last night. Very nice place with seaview! But impressed with the taste of their food. I order Skewered scotch fillet, which come with a nice mint salad. But I didn't like the beef, it is certainly not scotch fillet, and didn't taste fresh at all, over priced. Don't think want to go again.

Since I live around the area, Casablanca has always been a great place to drop into when i feel like eating out. The place is always busy, and even though it is, the wait staff are always super efficient to attend to you, which is always a good sign of a well managed restaurant.

The food is good though on some dishes they could use a bit more seasoning or flavour, but overall i would not complain too much, as i always feel well fed when i leave anyway.

The place always has a great vibe and the washroom is always neat, nothing worse than going to a washroom which smells and the soap is not topped up.

All up Casablanca is a great place to dine for lunch and dinner!
Holly
Been to Casablanca many times and have never been disappointed, the food is amazing and fresh with generous portions. Favourite place to eat in Orewa by far
Shay Bruce
Great food for dinner and lunch but wouldn't recommend their breakfast menu. Dusted cinnamon French toast .. Was smothered in cinnamon and the pancakes were actually more crepes.. But disappointing when I know how great the lunch and dinners are.

Went for lunch on a weekend. Food was absolutely amazing. Even though there appears to be some sort of "accident" in the kitchen which resulted in a slight delay in our orders, the waiter handled the situation very politely and responsibly. We were offered a side dish on the house in addition to a discount on our final bill. Overall the experience was very satisfying. Any disappointment in the delay was offset by the quality of the food and service.

Had a fabulous evening here last Saturday. Wonderful decor and atmosphere. Service was friendly and prompt and food was without fault..... just yum!!! Found the idea of 'sittings' a bit strange...but it's worth it. We'll be back again for sure.
Olwyn Hill
Had a meal there with 3 friends recently and we all had a beautiful meal, love the flavours, service was good and drinks were very good. I would recommend Casablanca Orewa for a very tasty and enjoyable meal. I love the decor too.

Was super excited to go here as I've heard so many people talk about it and heard good reviews. Went there with my boyfriend and two friends. Service was pretty good. I'm not sure if I ordered wrong but my meal was very average, I had the lamb kebab with yoghurt, tomato and thyme sauce. Tasted pretty much like going to the kebab places at the mall- expect I'd probably
Prefer that. Overwhelming amount of yoghurt and the lamb was quite overdone and bad quality given the price. My boyfriend had the large sized squid rings which he said was okay, but couldn't understand the excellent reviews.. He was also charged for a tiny serving of aioli which I personally think should be free as most places don't charge for sauce. Both boys that dined with us left hungry and weren't overly impressed. Was a tad disappointed after all the build up.

Third time eating here. First two times were reasonable - nothing wrong, good standard fare. As an almost weekly diner of Caravanserai during the 90's, I was eagerly anticipating Casablanca's arrival in our neighbourhood. The taramasalata and felafels were as good as I remembered. This last time though, one of our meals was cold and no waiters to catch our eye, even though we tried signalling for 10 mins. My husband ended up eating the warm and lukewarm outside part and finished the rest of my passable tagine. When we finally did catch someone's eye and let them know we were finished, they offered us a free dessert (which we didn't want as we were pretty full after starters and mains), but really, I didn't think they should've charged us for the cold main.

Casablanca is generally an average trusty restaurant for a good time out with friends. It still disappoints me, however, to compare the $120 meal that we had at Casablanca with the outstanding $140 meal that we enjoyed at Ponsonby Bistro 2 nights earlier. The value is so much better further afield.

I have been to Casablanca a few times. Fantastic staff, food, prices and atmosphere. We are so grateful to have a restaurant in Orewa that we can return to knowing every time will be 100%. I have tried the Tangine, Platter and also been for brunch having the Eggs. I had family over from Oz recently and they thought it was fantastic too. Keep up the good work it is appreciated.

Thank the lord, there is a great place to dine in Orewa at last!

Went here for a birthday dinner last night, thought I better share my experience because this place is doing so well all-round.

Environment:
Walking through the door you notice the rustic Mediterranean décor of this place is exquisite! It was classy and attractive (tick). It was getting dark out side when we arrived and the lights were nicely lit to make a cozy glow. All the glassware and cutlery was of a reasonable fine quality (tick) - a special note about the water jugs, tables and chairs they are choice! The younger food runners/waitresses were well presented, looked like they were dolled up for a night out which was quite groovy. The kitchen was open, and easily viewed from the floor, all the cooking noises and 73.9ft high flames added to the excitement. The chefs were in spotless whites (tick). The environment is very hard to fault, it was buzzing! It was so busy and buzzing you could only hear little half second patches of the neat themed music - sorry where? in Orewa on a Tuesday night!

Food/Beverage:
Very Mediterranean menu (tick) which was great to see. Was full of dishes I have never seen or heard about, the descriptions helped a lot! There was a great variety to choose from - guessing 20-30 dishes all up. If you wanted to have a full tapa's type meal you could, the menu was split in to small dishes and large dishes, so you could have the entrée & mains dining experience also. The food was served in a great timely fashion, I think we did not wait longer than 20 minutes (tick) and it all came out together (tick). I ordered a kebab... thing...

Now... the taste, the chefs here know what they are doing the dishes were superb with a great depth of flavor (tick). A lot of time and effort has been taken in to prep because this is not your average, its good food! Well done chefs, kudos. I dug my fork in to a few of everybody else's dishes to make sure it wasn't just mine that was so good, no no, it was all good with a lot of well matched flavors and components. I will be back another time to try deserts as we had a B-Day cake (with no cakeage fee by the way).

Alcoholic drinks menu was 'okay', I think they could put a bit more effort into it. You see the locals... we love to drink up here on the Hibiscus Coast, we are like hobbits - we are passionate about food and drink. I would like to see more beers and craft beers. Also an expansion on the wine, you may be playing it too safe.

Service:
The maître d'/senior waiter lady greeted us within 10sec's of walking through the door (tick) and took us to the table, and then asked if we would like a drink and small plates well we wait for the others (tick). Wait's between drinks were acceptable. We all felt quite looked after the whole night, there were a few times where my vessel was empty for about 5 minutes before our waiter had asked if we would like another round - I'm just saying, they could have probably got another 6 beers out of us before we left ($50). Also, serving beer in a bottle is okay at a pub not at a restaurant, there is room for improvement with serving beer, if the customer wants it in a bottle he gets it in a bottle, but serving beer in a glass allows the aroma to enter your nose and improve enjoyment, it is just more classier - simple. There was one young waitresses who must learn to smile more.

They dimmed the lights when we sung happy birthday and they delivered the cake it was bloody awesome that they made a little fuss for us. Things like this are really cool.

Great place to go for dinner whether its just with your petal, or the family or a gathering of grand epicness. This place is doing very well, it is setting a new standard for Orewa. Hopefully others will follow suit and help create the little destination I know Orewa can be.

I loved it
I will return
I would recommend to my closest friends and family!
Next time, I'm getting the steak!

Awesome local restaurant with fantastic service. Very friendly staff. The food was amazing. We tried the lamb & chicken tagine... very tasty and really good portion sizes. We were very full. Really nice atmosphere. We will definately be back.
Sara
My coffee group went to Casablanca last night for our girls night.
We each had the calamari main, it was DEVINE! There was so much flavor and an excellent amount of food on the plates. We were super full and I was extremely impressed with how tasty and tender the calamari was.

The staff were all very happy and friendly :) the whole restaurant was packed, awesome atmosphere!

We also had some off the chocolate, carmel cake the best I have ever had.

I can not wait to go back! Well done guys, keep up the good work and please do not change the calamari meal :)
Mupps
Visited for a drink after work with friends, shared a couple of small plates. Great service, very friendly, professional and prompt, though waters could do with topping up more often and drinks prompted. Got to say the Falafels we had were a tad tasteless, compared with other med meals I have had in the past... seemed a busy, lively and a well liked place by the locals, I'll be back sometime soon for a full meal, as I work locally and often come to Orewa for social occasions too.
Garth Nell
My wife and I have been twice over the past week or so and both times received really good service and the atmosphere great. The food was absolutely WOW on both occasions!! Mouthwatering and well presented. Keep it up Casablanca!!

We are local here in Orewa and booked for a party of 25 for a 40th birthday! We had the Mezze Menu which was perfect for such a large group! The food was beautiful and there was plenty to go around! (we even left with what we couldn't finish) The staff were friendly and extremely helpful and done an amazing job catering to such a large group! (they even sang Happy Birthday too) Our guests who travelled from all over were very impressed with Casablanca and had nothing but positive comments! Thank you to all at Casablanca for making our night so enjoyable! Look forward to dining there again!
Tracey Long
Booked a party of 7 for a 21st birthday family meal. We were early and the team apologized as the table wasn't ready. Despite it being a packed night our food came quickly, we were all served together which sometimes doesn't happen with a bigger group. The fare was tasty and excellent with heaps of choice. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and even checked to see if the ingredients were available for a cocktail my son wanted.
My recommendation is to book for a busy night as the place was packed! Slightly hard for conversation but it became easier as the amount of guests lessened.
Am looking forward to my next meal!
June Williams
Excellent as always, what a huge asset for Orewa and very much needed. I have been many times since opening and have never been disappointed. The unfailingly pleasant staff and committed owner ensure a relaxing enjoyable experience every time.

Lunch has been a wonderful experience once again. Food, atmosphere and service could not be faulted.
Casablanca is a restaurant we are proud to take our visitors to.
Right across from the beautiful Orewa beach so who needs to go to downtown Auckland
Mike England
Our third visit and again a great experience, trying different dishes each time. Very attentive waiters who show a good knowledge of the various options. Each time we have taken different guests and all have been suitably impressed. The place is always so busy, (but they do take reservations and the table is always ready for you,) but the service is always quick and cheerful. A great addition to Orewa's food scene.
Ange Griffiths
I have been to Casablanca a number of times with various family and friends. Absolutely love the place - it's my fave! Pretty close to perfect every time. Have had no problems with been greeted, seated, waited on etc. Our orders were always correct and usually didn't take long to arrive. Very friendly staff. Have enjoyed my food - only one dish wasn't too fussed on, it was just a bit too spicey for me. It's been great trying different food. Just love the buzz there. Can't wait to go back!
Liz Hansen
Had a lovely night here. We experienced impeccable service we were seated quickly, had a wonderful waitress who checked on us regularly. The food was great! This is just the kind of establishment Orewa needs. We will be back of sure

Have been to Casablanca on a number of occasions.
I have only great things to say about the staff and the food is lovely. My main reason for not giving it 5 star was my last experience when I decided to take my dinner to eat on the beach. The restaurant was not overly busy at 5pm I wanted wraps but could only choose from the dinner menu, the Hummus with Fulfil took over 20min and the $29 was expensive considering the serving size of the dishes in question. I will be back however as overall I love the food, the staff and the spot so keep working at it.
Sue
We had been waiting for an opportunity to visit this restaurant as the reviews were good and talk around Orewa was that it was the best place to eat in Orewa. We couldn't get a booking before Christmas so waited for my birthday after the new year to book. We were looking forward to it but we're really disappointed. We never really got to taste the food as our order got mixed up. We waited more than an hour and a quarter for our mains dish, as they had forgotten our order. People arriving after us were leaving before we got our mains. We waited and meals kept being delivered to others as we watched the kitchen staff argue over who should have been making our dishes, it was like something you see on tv. We ended up walking out and they let us have our drinks for free for the inconvenience. The atmosphere was good but at times could hear everyone's conversations. It was hot and sticky too all in all not a pleasant experience. It will be quite a while before we book again!
Emma
My partner and I had been looking forward to dining at Casblanca Cafe since first opening and finally found an opportunity to do so.
The service was very good, the waiter wanted to take our main meal orders whilst taking our entree order and asked us to hurry along which we ignored as when we dine out we like to take our time and enjoy the experience. The waiter soon got the hint when we said no we are wanting a bottle of wine while we have our entree - after that he was cool and said take your time! Restaurant is fully licensed so cheapest bottle of wine is $38.00 - this may prove a struggle considering so many BYOW restaurants on the coast.
Food was average. I ordered the Black Sea Chicken dish - tasted like the chicken had been covered in coat n cook and then served on rice which was super hot!!! The menu did not describe the dish as having chilli in it or of being hot it described it as a roast almond paprika rice pilaf.
I was expecting a lot more for the price and the popularity of the place, however i will go again and try a different dish and see how that goes as i usually love Mediterranean cuisine.
Gus
We visited Casablanca Cafe on a Monday evening and it was bustling. We had no reservation but managed to get a table. The wait staff were perfectly fine, one drink was missed on our order but this was rectified promptly. I ordered the chicken tagine, which was disappointingly not temperature hot probably indicating that the dish had been prepared well in advance. The other dinners ate chicken fattush which was okay and a generous size and the pilaf which she found a bit too chilli hot (and she likes chilli). All in all a solid effort and clearly popular out at the beach but it seemed to lack flavour for me and it was hard to get excited over my tepid offering .

Thank you Casablanca Cafe for investing in Orewa! That block of shops/cafes needed a serious facelift-which thanks to you has started happening!

Service: fantastic! Attentive staff who did everything just right. Having a hospitality background myself I recognised that it wasn't over the top as to be annoying, but attentive enough to feel very welcome and looked after.

Food: fabulous! Love it! Need I say more?!?!

Atmosphere: fabulous! The only thing I would suggest is to incorporate some music which diners sitting outside could enjoy also.

Well done! And thanks!

Second visit. Just as impressed as first one. Good service, superb food delivered quickly.
A bit noisy - can be easily fixed by putting up some lovely oriental wall rugs to absorb the noise- would be a five if you do this.
Debbie Martin
At last. A decent restaurant in Orewa. The service is friendly and attentive. Seating is interesting. I love all the cushions. The only negatives are:
1. it is already so popular bookings are essential
2. it is hard to choose from the menu because everything sounds yummy
The highlight for me was the street food which you could eat with your fingers. Will definitely be returning for the third time.
Michael Duffy
I had dinner at Casablanca Orewa with 3 others this past Sunday evening and have to say, what a wonderful (and overdue) addition to Orewa! Upon arriving, we were promptly greeted by friendly wait staff. Unknown to us, you really need to book ahead to guarantee getting a table. After a brief reshuffle of reserved tables, we were accommodated and shown to our table.

The entire experience was delightful from the food to the service and the interesting, intricately decorated environment.

The portion sizes were more than generous and priced reasonably also. The biggest difficulty of the night was choosing what to have, as they offer a very extensive menu.

What a busy place! Really inspiring to see an eatery doing so well in Orewa. Keep it up Casablanca! We'll definitely be back!
Terry
Have been there four times since it opened and each time it has been a very pleasant experience. The staff are friendly, charming and well trained (well most of them). Food is excellent and portions more than adequate. My wife and I will certainly be regulars there.
Letitia
Unfortunately our experience at Casablanca Orewa was not one that would make me go back.

The staff are friendly and the food is very nice but on the down side our particular waitress did not know anything about the food on the menu, the wait time to both be served and revive our meals was far too long.

The meals are overpriced as the portion sizes are less than adequate.

They are trying to serve more people than the staff and kitchen can cope with, and on this note our table was no where near large enough for the five people in our group, regardless that we made a booking.
Jared Ellicott
We booked a table for five, upon arrival we were shown to our seats by friendly and helpful staff. The table was far too small for five of us and the neighbouring table was so close I needed to get up for the occupants of the other table to enter and exit.

The wait time was fifty five minutes from sit down to getting our mains, we didn't order any entries. The food on the whole was delicious, but the portions were small and left all of us still hungry. Considering the portion size, the food was over priced.
While we waited for our orders, one of the chairs collapsed that a gentleman who was dining outside was seated on.

We all decided to try desert given that we were still unsatisfied from the main portions we received. To our disappointment, the desert did not live up to the culinary expectations we had envisioned on account of our mains. Three of the five deserts were served , with the remaining two served close to ten minutes after, at which point the first three had almost finished. The customer service oriented wait staff promptly recognised the mistake and offered for the last two deserts to be removed from the bill when it was brought to their attention.

This restaurant earned two stars because of the service its wait staff provided with a warm demeanor and a smile even under high pressure conditions with a lot of tables to wait, along with the superb preparation and presentation of the meals. Unfortunately, Casablanca in Orewa fails on all other counts.

We visited Casablanca Orewa last night - this was the second time we had been, first time was for lunch on Labour Weekend. Very disappointed both times with the service, it was terrible - both times waited over an hour for mains and when they did arrive I was told what I had ordered they had ran out of !! So once again I had to wait for another main to be cooked while the rest of our party ate there mains. Will not be going back for a long long time - very poor - shame really as the food is good and the restaurant is very nice

We visited Casablanca Cafe in Orewa for the first time this week for brunch and were greeted by a friendly, smiling and professional waitress with dark hair, this was a great start as no other cafe in this are area provides this kind of approach towards any of their (including prospective) customers. This lady continued to gave us some excellent advice on our food choice and was consistent in giving us further excellent service. The food and coffee took a bit longer than expected to arrive, which was disappointing, also another waitress who was not aware of what we had ordered served us the food and unfortunately her overall mannerism of servicing us was not to our liking, inadvertently this resulted in us being overcharged. The overall quality of the food was superb and we will definitely be back again with other friends again soon to give this cafe another visit in the hope to be served by the same waitress again

Took my wife there for lunch for her birthday and found the food and service very good.

Very much looking forward to going there for dinner in the near future.

Excellent food in a nice setting.
Service was average, although I think this will improve as staff get settled in.
They were nice and friendly, just a little confused as to who was looking after which table leading to a bit of a wait for us.
Look forward to visiting again soon.

Tuned up and waited 20 minutes to be offered a menu. Sitting outside.

Ordered two special coffees, 30 minutes later cold coffees came out. I complained, another 15 minutes later our coffees came out.

Rubbish service, and $10.50 for a special coffee is a little expensive.

My wife and I went to Casablanca Cafe in Orewa on a whim essentially. We arrived without a booking and were greeted by a friendly helpful staff member who got us seated and comfortable while we waited a few minutes for a table. The atmosphere was busy and vibrant, with pleasant decor adding to the ambiance.
The food was soon on the table, 18 minutes from ordering to it being in front of us, delivered by very friendly and professional staff. An excellent experience so far. It only got better as we ate our mains. They were both delicious and of more than adequate size. Desert was just as good and we were struggling to finish by the end. As we were finishing desert we saw friends leaving and of course asked how they'd enjoyed it. They were really impressed by the whole experience and agreed with us that Casablanca could become our favourite place to eat on the coast.
All in all a definite five stars from us and we'd recommend it to others without hesitation. Well done Casablanca!

Went to Casablanca for my wife's 40th on Sunday evening. The restaurant was busy, however the staff were very attentive and took care of us. The food was fantastic, including the 3 kids meals we ordered.
Early that day I dropped off a surprise cake for my wife and they kindly brought it out to her for our dessert.
My wife had heard about the fig mousse so chose to give it a try and it tasted magnificent.
Will definitely be going back again.

Had a girls night out, and it was amazing, the interior is beautifully exotic and there are very helpful wait staff. We were tossing up whether to have a meal each or the mezze. So while downing some rather salubrious wine, the lovely waitress told us she could bring us 'share plates' as well as our meals. We put a little of our meals on these plates and had a mouthful of each others. Really delicious, but my calamari was not for sharing after that, just a hint of chilli made it perfect. The Turkish delight was ....delightful, definitely going back. In fact we have booked for next Saturday with friends. Can't wait.

Wifey and I was there for the opening day last Wednesday and I must say.. the food was absolutely divine!!! Had Casa Fish and Chips and French Toast ..simply delicious !! I must congratulate the chefs for providing us with our meal as we loved every single bite. I had a Perfectly cooked Fish which was very succulent with a lot of flavours. We enjoyed our meal very much indeed ,well worth the price. Presentation of our meals was very well presented. Had a nice young chap serve us , had all our needs well taken care of. Well done son. Atmosphere is very relaxing and fresh. There's no doubt this café/ restaurant will quickly become the hottest reservation in town. Will definitely recommend this place to family and friends. you will no doubt tire at serving this old man haha

Ambience is lovely and authentic, with interesting iron dining tables and comfortable seating. Had the citron chicken with couscous, which was of acceptable quality but the portion size was on the small side. A bit overpriced imho.

My sister and I took a short trip to Orewa on a public holiday and stopped at Casablanca for a late lunch. There wasn't much other cafes/eateries opened, so the dining room was very busy with patrons getting a bite to eat. The waiter kindly showed us our seats at one of the pretty booths and we all decided to order from their brunch/lunch menu.

My serving of Izmir eggs (Turkish styled scrambled eggs with sauteed potatoes) with slices of spicy chorizo was neatly served with toasted Turkish bread. The dish was good, I added just a light touch of cracked pepper to intensify the eggs. The eggs could do more seasoning but the chorizo had a spicy paprika flavour and made up for it. My sister's order of Spanish grilled tomato bread with halloumi cheese and avocado was rather plain. We were expecting a unique bread but instead it was just slices of tomato on grilled bread. A little disappointing.

We finished our meal with a Turkish Apple tea and a Moroccan Mint tea served in darling red cups.

The meal was overall average. The place had a great vibe and the staff were very friendly despite the busy dining room. However, the food was a let down, but I seldom eat Mediterranean food, so I was not sure of what to expect.

For more reviews, please check out my blog - http://mydiningjourney.wordpress.com/

Casablanca is in a lovely location and has a very great atmosphere. My in-laws love coming here for special occasions and we have always been served by the most attentive and friendly staff. The food is generously portioned and full of great flavours. We usually start with a meze platter which is great for a large group. We that the Lahmajun, although on the mains menu, is also very good for sharing.

In addition to the above, we had the Upsidedown Pilaf, Citron Chicken Tagine, Skewered Scotch Filet and Turkish Split Aubergine, Greek Meatballs, Calamari Salad and the Casablanca Mussels. As each dish was so large, we were all able to have a little taste of each and my favourite was the Skewered Scotch Filet which was paired with a spicy harissa and eggplant/potato mash. Yum!
