Review Thai Orewa - Orewa

Sandy Smart
Nice place infront of beach. We visited for lunch on a weekday, so was not very busy. Service was fairly quick, and the food was tasty. We ordered two mains - 'Spicy Pork with Ginger" and a "chicken peanut sauce". The proportion of meat in both those dishes could have definitely been more as compared to some other Thai eateries. The sweet dish "Banana Split" was amazing. Overall ambience was good

Nestled between many other restaurants is a charming, busy, Thai themed restaurant on the main Hibiscus Coast highway across the road from beautiful, white sand Orewa Beach. The restaurant features both inside and outside dining. The attention to detail on the inside is tasteful and beautiful. The attention to customer service was superb, and our meals and drinks were delivered in a timely matter. The meals were generous. Outside on the footpath is a walkway featuring famous NZ entertainers. We enjoyed out dinner here.

Great food and service was good, very friendly and fast. We've been a few times and it did get very noisy after about 8pm as it's quite large and does cater for groups. If you are taking children I'd definitely have them out of there by 7.30 at the latest

Food was tasty and served very quickly. I had sweet and sour pork which was flavourful but there seemed to be more pineapple than pork. The atmosphere was slightly lacking, with bare formica tables. Plenty of takeout meals flying out of the door, so there must be plenty of satisfied customers who enjoy the food. Handy private parking at the back saved having to hunt for a parking space. Would definitely go again and try something a bit more daring from the menu. Staff are attentive and polite but seemed a little too keen to clear the table. We had to turn them away twice as we hadn’t finished.

Celebrated a birthday here in a Friday night. Place was very popular with the takeaways offered and once dinner arrived I knew why. I ordered the Lonely Duck with jasmine rice. The duck was cooked perfectly, the sauce was tasty. The staff were very attentive and service was timely without feeling rushed. The BYO option suited us for a birthday celebration only charging $10 corkage.

im being to thai orewa restaurant for more than 10years. Always amazing foods, so yummy! I highly recommend Stir Fried Basil (Beef or Chicken or Squid). All recommend. First time ate real thai beef salad. Wow amazing😋 busy night on weekend so better to book table! Lunch is more reasonable price because cheaper and rice is free😊

Really enjoyed our meal tonight at Thai Orewa. Great flavors, good size portions and well presented. Would highly recommend everything we had: prawn bread appetizer, pork panang curry, larb kai (chicken salad —this one definitely had a kick 🌶), and fried banana dessert. Yum! Spacious indoor dining room and a few tables outside. Staff were friendly and attentive. Will visit again next time we stay in Red Beach.

Great meal had here and worth the drive from Auckland. Entrees ordered curry puffs (I loved as like a Cornish pasties pastry) also we ordered spring rolls. Mains hubby and I both ordered Pad Thai his chicken, mine king prawn (very generous with prawns I counted 8). Service was stretched as extremely busy, but worth the drive.

Very good food and good service but extremely noisy. Will choose a less busy time next time Certainly will go back. Need to book.

Situated in a great location near to the Orewa beach, the restaurant offers great services and delicious food. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had chicken fried rice for my son, beef rice noodle for my daughter and they were both so pleases with the food. My husband ordered the seafood fried noodle which he assumed it would be like 'mì xào dòn' judging from the menu image. While it turned out to be different from what he thought ( the noodle was not crispy and there was abundant of sauce) the sauce was flavourful. I got the sweet and soup snapper with sautéed pineapple and cucumber and a small bowl of Tom yum. Both are tasty. We really enjoyed the meal in this nicely decorated restaurant.

Overall I love this place. Great food, good portion size and good service. I had the Duck Basil Stir Fry. They brought me the same thing but with Beef. I raised it with the crew and they happily took it back, and very promptly got the correct dish back to me no dramas at all. My only negative is the service can seem a bit rushed and very robotic, even though it was not a very busy night here. Not bad, but not amazing. Would ideally give 4.5 stars but the service isn't bad enough to drag it down to a 4, so 5 stars! Dessert pictured, Deep fried banana with custard and ice cream.

You will not be disappointed!!! If you're looking for authentic Thai food that's delicious, look no further. I almost forgot to take photos of my food because I was so impressed with the taste. On the menu for dinner: Starters: Curry Puffs & Satay Chicken Skewers Mains: Pad Thai Chicken; Penang Curry with Coconut Rice Sorry about the photos. I had already eaten half of everything before I took photos haha it was sooooo yuuuummmm

This place is so lovely to visit for dinner and also take away on lockdown. The best service ever never get poor customer service experience. Thanks for your good foods guys.
Kathryn
Disappointing despite the good reviews - all three waiters were very rude and were only friendly when it was time to pay for the bill. Curries and other dishes we ordered came with no added vegetables (other comparable Thai Restaurants have added vegetables) and Pad Thai was oily and sugary. Will not be returning.
Grayson
The best Thai on the coast. Great meals, and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

in this economic times you would think that charging $6 a bottle for wine corkage is too high, food was Ok but got our order wrong so others were eating while we were waiting,, cant come back with thoses prices, can never understand why Thai food is so expensive???

Delicious chicken green curry. I could almost taste flowers when I had it. My husband's chicken pad thai was sweet and crunchy, very satisfying. The restaurant was very busy but still, the service was fast and precise. Will come back.

Good food but pad Thai wasn’t spicy enough. Had to ask for chilli but that was fine. Food was out quick. Gluten free options. The workers started to close the shop up while we were still eating which made us feel like we need to hurry and they didnt close for another hour. Workers looked like they didn’t want to be there lols.

They never answer their phone for take away orders.

This is and always will be my favourite restaurant! Come here with my family almost every week and it never disappoints. The food is always yum, hot and comes out fast! The staff are always so friendly as well!

LOVE this place! My partner and I went back the next two days because it was so good and it made us really happy that they remembered us. Can strongly recommend the green and yellow curries with the coconut rice. We'll definitely be back again.

Great sized portions with plenty vegetables in the vege dish! Rice is an extra cost. A very good Thai restaurant, with lots service though out the meal.

Food came out incredibly fast. Portions were a bit smaller than expected but it's definitely worth it. Quality over quantity. Fresh was food and delicious. One of the better Thai places I've been to.
Three brothers and vegie peanut sauce
Pomwi!
Food was delicious, had beef curry, prawn toast and curry puffs. Plenty of meat best Thai in Orewa!! If it's Thai you want then try Thai Orewa! Staff were pleasant and good was quick!

Excellent food, and great service. We had the flaming chicken (flambeau), and peanut sauce chicken to share with a side of coconut rice and a couple of beers. It was all perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. Very generous with the protein, would've liked a little more veggies in there. Atmosphere was a little busy and noisy but that is down to personal preference. We stopped here after a dip at the Waiwera hot pools, close driving distance. Great way to end a casual, yet relaxing Saturday night.

Lunch on a cool and windy Wednesday. Shared mixed entree, all very tasty and mains of Three brothers and Chicken with banana. Both served with rice. BYO wine and cost just $19.50 each. Tasty food and great value.

Love it here, lively atmosphere, fast and friendly service and the food is exquisite, a local favourite, highly recommend eating here, make sure to try the prawn toast and money bags, the chicken peanut satay is also very tasty, lovely experience overall
Mystery Shopper
Went here on what we thought was a lazy night but was choca block full on arrival, no booking but they managed to squeeze us in , after waiting 40+ min for our food as I think takeaway orders were overpowering the kitchen. I must say it rates as one of the best Thai eating I've had, even though they got one of our spice preferences wrong on a dish,. Definitely a go to again but if busy order the takeaway,

Best Thai I've ever had!!!
Place was full which is always a good sign. Great prompt service. Food was delivered in a timely manner. The food was absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend.

Went here for a friends group dinner and we all really enjoyed it! The food and service was great and to top it off its BYO wine - bonus. Classic Thai can't go wrong with this place.

My first experience having Duck Yellow and Red Curry was here at Orewa Thai, and boy they nailed it. There was a generous amount of duck breast in the curry, with small pieces of potato and other vegetables. The curry itself was full of flavour, not lacking salt and had the right amount of coconut milk flavour. They do unlimited rice for $2, which I must say is the reason I'm really getting the calorie to dollar ratio I'm looking for. Staff walk around with a pot full of hot rice and top you up when your ready for more.

We also tried the Curry Chicken Puffs, which were pretty much Indian samosas with more potato than chicken. This starter that came with the sweet chilli sauce was satisfactory if anything.

Staff were also very helpful, filling up our glasses of water regularly and helping us get our table and pay our bill without us waiting around.

The cost was very reasonable for a fully decorated restaurant that gave a pretty decent Thai vibe. Between us, we've had the Duck Garlic and Pepper, Yellow and Red Curry and the Pad Thai. I can confirm all meals are tasty and come in nicely sized portions to fill you up (get the $2 rice!).

As delicious as thai food is, it just got even better for me after discovering this gem in orewa, the moment I find love I shall bring her here just to show her what she is competing against.

Good for Thai food in Orewa and definitely better than Thai'd Up for the taste. Chicken Hot hot is my favorite dish though really spicy. One would be cautious to have this unless you can handle a good about if spice.

Starters like chicken satay and chicken puff are good and recommend.

The whole clan descended on Thai Orewa for dinner this week. With young children in tow we stepped out early, but the restaurant was already quite busy. Despite this the restaurant is well staffed so we did not wait long for drinks and menus. There were no surprises on the menu, we ordered a couple of entrees and some mains. We requested all the food out at once, and found there was a significantly faster turnaround that way (you have a small window of opportunity with little ones). The fish cakes were quite moist and the fish tasted fresh. The chicken satay skewers were average, the meat was cooked but lacking any char or caramelisation. They were covered in a thick goo posing as sauce. The mains were okay, highlights being the sizzling beef and the red duck curry which was my personal favourite. It had less sweetness and more heat than normal and a generous amount of duck. The staff were friendly and accommodating, it was a pleasant dining experience

We have been to the Thai Orewa several times and have enjoyed the consistent quality of food and service. The staff are always friendly and attentive and the food is great! We have tried a good selection of things on the menu (going as a family group and sharing dishes) and have found it all so good. It is hard to choose now when we return. You can ask for the food to be hotter if you wish (even Thai hot, if you are brave!). We will certainly return.

I visited Thai Orewa on Monday evening for dinner. It was quite busy for a Monday.

The service was friendly and my order taken quickly and most importantly, the food was
great!

I would definitely eat there again.

Have been going to Thai Orewa for years! I am very fussy, and I only really like two of the dishes they have - but they are always very very yummy! My folks go quite often, and it's their fave place. The staff have come to know us well, and are always friendly, attentive, efficient and treat us with a lot of respect and we can have a bit of a laugh with them too. My sons are also very fussy, and they always get the chicken fried rice - it's really the only restaurant they want to go to! Good prices and great atmosphere.

We live in Orewa and get an order once a month.
Most authentic Thai I have found in Auckland, so happy they are in Orewa. Garlic & Black pepper prawns are perfect every time, Their curries are a fave in this house we have tried them all as well as the fish cakes and curry puff entrees. Deff worth a try.

Usually very good, but sometimes in early part of week food can taste like its been "on hold".

However 90% of time great food and best we've had in Australia or NZ.
Rachel
YUM!! My favourite place to go for dinner - it is totally worth the drive. Food is consistently amazing, service friendly and super fast. It actually baffles me how quickly the food comes.

Beef Massamaan is my favourite and if you're into spicy food you have to try the Chicken Hot Hot - never been able to find anything that compares anywhere else.

Thai Orewa serves by far the best Thai food I have ever had, their food is always delicious, you get large meals and fast.

The staff are always friendly and provide great service, a definite must to eat in or takeaway!

We visited Thai Orewa Restaurant for the first time although having lived in the area for the last 10 years. The food and service was excellent, genuine Thai food, the waiter was very obliging in making some changes to the menu to fill our individual needs, nothing to complain about, great food, great service great ambiance, we would love to go back again soon. Overall an enjoyable evening out

Great food fast service even though the restaurant was quite busy on the Saturday night. Good value for money would go back...

Would highly recommend this restaurant if you like great service and delicious food that doesn't break the bank. The staff were nice and friendly, we were a party of 8 and can't fault the service at all. Everyone enjoyed their meal.... It was my first time there but it won't be my last I will be going back to sample some more yummy food.

Have been here twice now - busy little place - great service and delicious food.

I would go back, four friends dined with me and we all loved our meals, very tasty. Though my chicken dish was supposed to be medium heat and had no heat at all. Restaurant was packed busy and the service was good and efficient. Plates took a long time to clear, but we were happy to pick at our leftovers anyways...thank you.
Karl
Fantastic restaurant, very kid friendly, and they have a superb selection of wines to accompany their meals.

Highly recommended.
