Review Bolliwood Indian Restuarant In Orewa - Orewa

Good food and service. We went on a winter Thursday and it was pretty quiet. Service was attentive and meals came hot and served in good time. Tasty dishes and fresh ingredients. Spinach and cheese naan was especially good. Also Three Sisters fish curry with scallops, fish and prawns. Yum. Good size servings. Will go again.

One evening we turned up there without reservation and were seated at a nice table on the deck. Service was attentive and we followed waitress's recommendation on the food to order. "Cheeky Chicken" curry is a must to try. All in all we were very impressed with the food, cocktails and service. Would definitely go there again.

The food was good. It had a great view of the water...

Food was good but served nicely….

We went there for Dinner before first All Black v Ireland test ( the one we won) Table for 4, has been fully revamped since our last visit pre covid and has new owners. Great service, food awesome curry bombs, would win any master chef comp. Tried a variety of dishes including the old faithful butter chicken, all very good. Try it, one of the best. Thanks for your hospitality.

Excellent service, good food. Could improve on the interior works and increase ventilation. Still a nice place to eat and would definitely go back again.
Stunning NZ
Food was delicious but service was slow.

Bolliwood is upstairs and has a great outlook over the Ocean. The food is great and the drinks menu reasonable (if you are into cocktails and you don't see something on the drinks menu try asking). Bolliwood is one of the pricier places to eat and drink in the area - but the food is great. They also do take out. Typically you can just turn up without worrying about booking.

A fabulous friendly restaurant overlooking the beach. The food is well presented and tastes great. It was my wife's birthday and they gave her a complimentary slice of chocolate cake with a candle. Definitely going back.

As a lover of Indian food, I find it very difficult find places that offer great service and delicious food at a reasonable price. At times you'll find a place with great tasting food but for some odd reason the next day, the toilet doesn't agree. I just happened to be in the Orewa area while I waited for my car to be tinted and can say it was absolutely delicious. The service was great, the food was excellent and the portions were good too. I like how the rice was served. Very unique. Most of all, the garlic naans were clearly fresh and hot lathered with garlic. My only suggestion is to add a bottle of cold water so we don't have to wait for water. Appetiser - chicken tikka is a must!

New renovations are fantastic, and the added dishes to the menu are delicious. There's a great atmosphere in there, and as an added bonus, they now have happy hour between 12 and 4 😁👍

I had this place yesterday with my puppy and I've had it twice and it always seems to keep me happy, I ordered medium it was perfect but the naan was a bit Cold and the rice but nothing too big, the lady at the counter was lovely too :)

This was by far the worst curry I have had, EVER. Tasted disgusting, dry horrible chicken. and my husband got food poisoning off your mango chicken.

We order 3 curries- 1 x non-veg and 2 x veg, but all curries tasted same. One of the curry tasted burnt masala for which we notified them but then we realized all curry masala was burnt (probably they use same masala for all the curries). Serving girl offered us to replace one of the curry which we refused as none of the curry was tasting any good. End up paying for all the curries with 10% (to cover up their error) which doesn't mean anything anyways.<br/>I have given 2 x stars, 1x for raw onions (which tasted like onions) and the other for location of restaurant.

Best Indian place I have ever been too! The naan was great aswell!! I got a butter chicken and we were given plenty of rice to go with both our Curry’s

Never been. Friends go there regularly. I had the Bollywood special and lamb mince naan. I asked for it extra hot... it came medium hot (to my taste, but they probably compensated). The service was friendly, everything was cooked beautifully. Everything was exactly as I hoped and all of my friends enjoyed their meals. no photos taken, none really needed, it was all great. Thank you
Elaine
Great curry with a lovely setting. The chilli chicken was amazing! There are views of the ocean and space available on the outside (but covered) deck. Highly recommend.

The food at Bolliwood is great! However the service is the worst I have ever experienced. We order from Bolliwood through Menulog frequently and our orders have been cancelled 4 times now. We phoned them to ask why, and their answer was- "It wasn't busy so we closed early".  We have also had orders cancelled at 9:17pm even though they close at 10pm. No reason was given other than- "unable to accept your order".  Very disappointing. It's just lazy. Once I only paid $10 for a meal. So I left them a message to say that I needed to pay more for my meal-despite my bad experiences. After not receiving a call I decided to call again. The guy didn't seem to care, didn't understand that I was trying to pay and even after he finally did get it he couldn't care less. If I were a manager at this store I would be very worried. Since it doesn't seem to matter if I pay or not- next time I won't bother to call. They have gotten my order wrong many times, once where I've been sick because I have an allergy to dairy. If not for the good food you can make occasionally- we would not be back. And to be honest we are now looking for somewhere else to go. Absolutely terrible.

Great service we got delivery.. but the food was below average we thought we would give something else a try? But wished we had have stayed with our local Indian village!!!!

Good prices, Great butter naan, nice service. The curries are true to spice unlike a lot of places I have been which is good. I ordered the mango chicken and my partner ordered the butter chicken and both were lovely and flavoursome. The portions were slightly smaller than other places hence the 1 point decrease. Would recommend to someone looking for a reasonably priced but still yummy indian dish.
Ethan Hastings
Best staff, best food, best prices. Simple. Become a regular for me and my family. Tried most of the dishes and they are all beyond satisfactory. Seriously, great, friendly staff. Love it!!!! Thanks guys!!!

Have been going to Bolliwood for many years with my family. Over the years, understandably, the price has risen. The $10 nights on Mon-Wed were the perfect convenient option for us however now due to the recent price increases, there isn’t any reason for us to choose Bolliwood over any other restaurants in Orewa, particularly when the service has also deteriorated quite significantly.
Amanda Parkes
I made a order online just before they opened so they could deliver at lunch I get a txt saying they have cancelled my order then I ring to try make a order and the guy said it's because it's the morning they cancelled my order when I have order there plenty of times in the mornings 😡

The wait was a little longer than expected because of a mix up with our order (I think the staff may have been new) which made us late to our show we were seeing but all lateness aside the food was delicious and I was not disappointed, the curries were flavoured perfectly and the naan bread was done very well not gluggy and undercooked like every other place I've eaten it, the presentation was impressive and the atmosphere was loud and busy but that doesn't bother me overall good meal and good restaurant.

Went for dinner with my son, did not have a booking but got in early around 5pm, no worries at all, fantastic attentive friendly service. Had the chefs special Chicken creamy fenugreek with rice and garlic naan, was so good and a great change from the usual butter chicken choice. My son had chips and hot dog off the kids menu, a traffic light drink much to his delight and ice cream for dessert. Highlight of my evening was my drink, a lassicolada like frozen pina colada yum yum. Will definitely be back, lovely view, lovely staff and the food was very tasty and plenty of it which I got to bring home (no trouble).  Cannot fault Bolliwood at all.

Decent curry. Lots of vegetarian options.<br/>Go on a night when they offer specials...savings are great. Good place to have a take-out as well.

The location and the view is simply gorgeous. We were eight very hungry people that decided to try this place after a few hours in the sea despite the negative reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. Lovely and reasonably quick service and excellent food. The food on this occassion exceeded our expectations and speaking on the entire group's behalf, I would recommend it.

Visited this on way in our New Zealand tour. Lunch. We had roti, butter chicken and veg dish. Rice was complimentary. Roties were very crisp and soft and very large indeed. Chicken was very tender, many chunks in a mild gravy.. Service was prompt and courteous . Decor was enough to enjoy the food. Location -- excellent .. on the main road, Road facing on the first floor with a good view of the traffic. <br/>Overall.. very good.

Had dinner tonight with family, worst service I've ever experienced, food was good but wine glasses had water marks sadly it was my girlfriend's birthday and the waiter asked out loud if we're ready for the cake which killed the surprise we felt rushed and alot of birds have been flying around and peaking at the tables which was another downside, kinda disappointed was expecting better.

The Resturant was quite busy when we arrived without a booking and we were offered a choice of two tables.<br/><br/>The service was very fast. Water was soon brought to out table and Meals were out soon after we ordered.<br/><br/>I had the Bollywood special, vegetarian, along with garlic naan and lemon lime & bitters. All were very good. The rest of the family had lamb korma, kids nuggets and kids butter chicken with drinks and naan bread. This came to a total of $82.80 for two adults and two children.<br/><br/>The Resturant was quite noisy making it hard to have a discussion over the table.

I can honestly say that I had the absolute best butter chicken ice ever had from here. Unfortunately, me, and the other 7 people I dined with will no return after every single one of us getting food poisoning. I'm sad cause I loved the taste. =(

Ordered online and picked up, Spent a little more then attended but got home and were blown again, we had what felt like a few bites and were full ! We got the Bolliwood special, butter chicken, lamb kebabs (spare ribs, yum!) and onion Bhaji's. Defiantly be going back, but with sit in the restaurant next time as it looks great! Thanks heaps! :)

Excellent consistent service and food !@<br/>Great experience and views from the outdoor area over Orewa beach are awesome <br/><br/>best local place in orewa for a good value meal<br/>Thanks Arun, you always make us feel welcome
Ajay
Food is average. Worst part is most dishes the chef puts added colours to enhance the visual appeal of the dish!. I can't believe that ppl gladly eat such dishes unaware of the carcinogens present in them. <br/>Would not recommended going here unless you have no choice

Had a meal last night, food was quite good, took ages to come out, only two of us, we asked if we could change tables as was very noisy, sitting next to a table of girls, like being in a hen house!  told no seats left but there was one of the balcony that was empty, still empty when we left. Had to ask for wine glasses which also took a while to come.  Didnt like the atitude of the female waitress, felt that two of us was below her attention,, so altho we wont go back we will probably get takewawys

We get butter chicken take aways from here a lot and it's always delish...we love their fries they taste like cumin...delivery is $3 so it's a great last minute take out when you can't get out cos you've got 3 kids you don't want to disturb. I've eaten in and it's nice as well.
Hharkirat Siingh
It all began quite well but started to deteriorate after we began eating! The food looked delicious but lacked the extra punch of flavour! Decent option for a last resort situation!

Had a great meal here with family and friends. Tried the Bolliwood Special curry which was very tasty, and a little different to the usual tika masala or korma. Lively atmosphere, good for families and great service. Would definitely go again

Had a dinner here recently and it was wonderful.  Comprehensive menu to choose from and servings were generous and so tasty.  Service was fine.  We even got to take a doggy bag home for those midnight munchies!

I have been to Bolliwood a few times. One thing that bothers me is the blaring music. It is far too loud which makes it almost impossible to have a conversation inside. Also, the video shows very inappropriate things for children. The food is average. When I ate the butter chicken, I received three small pieces of chicken and the rest was just sauce. I did see one little girl there who spilled some juice on her by accident and her glass fell to the ground and broke. Nobody came to clean up the broken glass. I felt sorry for the girl and decided that the service needed to attend to something that harsh and important. I can promise you that I will not come back to this restaurant.

Came here on a Sunday night with a group of six and were seated promptly. There were three or four other tables. We had been to the Bolliwood in Ponsonby before, so we were expecting good things.<br/><br/>We started off with the Honey Cauliflower (one of my favourites) and a sizzling vegetable platter which consisted of pakoras, onion bahji, samosas, deep fried paneer and spinach on a sizzling platter. The platter was a fantastic way of introducing different types of Indian snacks. The cauliflower was crunchy, with a soft centre -the only downside was getting a piece that was only batter :(<br/><br/>For our mains, we ordered a butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, chicken bhuna, beef vindaloo and the chicken in Bolliwood special curry sauce. The meats in every dish fell apart easily and were super flavorful. The vindaloo wasn't as hot as we were used to, but we found that we were able to taste more of the dish without being overwhelmed by the heat. <br/><br/>My favourite was the Bolliwood Special Curry which is mix of Punjabi spice, garlic and ginger.<br/><br/>P.S. Please excuse the bad lighting in my photos. I can assure you that the food looked infinitely better than the pictures I've posted..<br/><br/>

Very pleased with venue and service at Bolliwood. Always polite to go the extra mile to fill your wine glass. Being new to the area and on the hunt for a proper Indian restaurant both my husband and myself we're pleasantly surprised with the authenticity of the food and they can delivery on a HOT curry! Definitely the best around this area!

I am writing this review in support of Bolliwood Restaurant because I am astounded at some of the reviews that I have seen posted. <br/>The previous low star reviews.... if to be taken seriously are completely opposite to my experiences here.<br/>My family and friends have often dined here. I have referred numerous business associates to dine at this establishment, all have been impressed with the cuisine and service, many have returned several times, they would only return if they enjoyed the experience.<br/>The staff are courteous, serving times and portions are just fine.<br/>I give you 5 stars because there was no option to give you 6. Keep up the good work.

Made a booking for Wed 30th for 4 people asked for a table inside arrived at due time 6.30pm was given a table outside on a terrace next to stairs coming up to the entrance talked to the waitress explaining, her answer was we didn't book and offered no alternatives. We suggested we move away from the draft behind us putting two tables together she said that couldn't be done so we sat there under protest. Ordered drinks we finally received them after she had wandered around asking people if they had ordered them. Ordered meals finally arrived with a small amount of rice for 2 people. Naan bread paper thin not the usual. Had to ask for more rice, had to ask for serviettes none on table, next thing we know they are moving the tables behind us together like we asked for us. We asked for the account, well, what a nightmare waitress had to take the account away 3 times before she got it right, up to the counter to pay while waiting a purchaser who ordered a takeaway found the order was incorrect and he had a few words. We had been there before found it OK but this time the meal was small and the sauce watered down, it was the worst service I have encountered when dining out. Sorry but we won't be back.

My first visit to Bolliwood Restaurant last week for lunch.<br/>Had butter chicken it was amazing can honestly say it is the BEST Butter chicken I have ever had. <br/>The service was awesome Surroundings superb with the beach just across the road such a nice place to eat lunch and relax.<br/>Even went back today for the same.

We visited Orewa beach from Auckland and found this gem. They don't have liquor license but still outstanding service, the food was probably the best Indian food I've ever had and I eat a lot Indian food. Prices were very modest. I would have paid more for the amazing experience we had. We will definitely be back. Thank you Bolliwood so much.

My husband and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and opted to try this place out. It clearly advised us that there was no liquor licence at present so no alcohol would be served - so good communication.<br/>Our waiting staff were actually really lovely - very friendly, one member of staff even went out of his way to go and buy some ginger beer as they had run out.<br/>The food was good - not OMG amazing, but good. My Chicken Korma had lots of flavour, but my husband found his butter chicken just a bit too sweet.<br/>Our entree - a shared seafood skillet was good.<br/>Give them a chance as it is early days...... :-D<br/>Lovely views

Visited Bolliwood in early January and had an a "OK" experience, nothing too flash, but reasonable and I gave them another go, visiting on 5th Feb with a small group of friends, it's fair to say none of us, or our families or friends will be back.<br/><br/>The services was extremely poor, un-organised, the wait times for both drink and food were ridiculous, no water offered despite repeated requests, the curries were luke warm (at best!) with absolutely NO spice despite me asking for "hot" and my friends mostly "medium". What's more there was not enough rice offered for 4 people in the first batch and we were told "extra rice is $4", I said "that's fine", but the extra rice arrived almost ice cold. The restaurant was also not busy, with us dining early around 6pm.<br/><br/>What's more after purchasing a bottle of wine, and having barely swallowed our last mouthfuls of food we were asked to "move on" as the table was booked for 8pm! We had arrived at 6pm for a meal/wine/catch up... we had no chance of staying longer for another drink or even dessert - which we usually would have.<br/><br/>Trying to pay was probably the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant, receiving a bill for over $1000 for 4 of us! However, they said to us "pay for what you had", which we did, honestly... and they offered us 1 $10 voucher... which honestly... I won't be using... really really disappointed on the whole, I am a huge fan of curry and often dine out and the place has been made up nicely decor wise, I would have liked to go back... but not now. Bolliwood, you are off the list.

My wife an I went out on a Wednesday night to get a meal.<br/>This was the worst service we have ever had in 20+ years of going out (probably at least once a week on average).<br/>The wait staff (lots of them on the floor that night) had absolutely no clue as how to run a restaurant service.<br/>Half the wait-staff looked like they were still in school and clearly had zero training in any sort of hospitality.<br/>We had to wait about 15 minutes to even order a drink so we put the food in at the same time.<br/>We never saw that drink.<br/>We had a long wait for our first coarse and asked three different times with different people to have our water filled and that also never arrived.<br/>We waited so long and got so sick of the rubbish service we asked for our mains to be take away(another 20 min wait)<br/>Food was only average - nothing special<br/>People around us were having the same problems.<br/>It wasn't even overly busy.<br/>Owners-TRAIN YOUR STAFF <br/>We will defiantly not be back-it really was that bad

Have only been once for lunch. There was four of us, and we were very fortunate that all our meals were absolutely superb! My parents have been back twice for lunch and dinner, and said not as good as first time, but still like the place. However, I am keen to go back for lunch and maybe dinner too. I think it depends on which chef is working at the time. Service is great and the place is looking lovely, and it's nice to look out on the water.

And we had such high hopes! A nice early dinner out with our 3.5 year old, it should be simple. We arrived at 6pm with only two other couples dining and as we had reserved a table, asked if it could be by the window, initially they said no (?) and then we reasoned that they were quiet and we said that we weren't going to be lingering given the age of our daughter and so we were given the table. We ordered a couple of starters and asked for our daughter's main (fish and chips) to be provided shortly after. I ordered a chicken jalfrezi medium and my partner the vindaloo hot. We waited, and waited .. And after asking again for my daughter's meal, it arrived.. Chicken nuggets (cut price, bargain style nuggets) so I spoke to one of the waitresses, explained there had been a mistake and asked again for the fish. Which duly arrived - again bargain price Muti pack variety. (just don't bother). My main arrived, a mild bhuna, which I felt bad in saying was incorrect.. And was given the same meal back again but with heaps more chilli in it... My partner complained and to give credit to the restaurant they did apologise for the mix ups and also provided a discount on the meal.. The only thing was both myself and the little one ended up coming home to eat again as she wouldn't eat the fish things and I couldn't eat my main. Basically if you are looking for a nice meal in Orewa.. Go to Casablanca..

I gave you one star as there was no option to give you ZERO STARS, which is what you deserve. I ordered a chicken salad, after asking if it was included in the $10 main deals and was assured it was ($16.50 is what I had to pay, first lie). It came with nothing it was advertised to come with, apparently they decided ‘some time ago’ to change it, but neglected to change the menu to reflect this. Three times I queried it, and was basically told ‘too bad’. About 4 small pieces of chicken on a plate, with feta (shouldn’t have been there), semi-dried tomatoes (shouldn’t have been there and WERE OFF!!!!!), olives (shouldn’t have been there), no cucucmber, no crispy noodles, no fresh tomato – all as advertised as making up the meal….. Basically had a bag of Value Salad greens tipped on top of it. Disgraceful. As a group of women, we found management intimidating and we ended up paying for a well below par meal (friends was not as ordered, eg, a vegan curry contained CHEESE!, extra rice ordered, never came but was charged for)….. WOULD NEVER RETURN, ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO GIVE IT A WIDE BERTH.

My first horrible experience at an Indian Restaurant. I had booked 12 seats three days in advance. However when we arrived no table/seats had been arranged for 12 people and there was confusion amongst the staff regarding this. Had to wait for them to arrange seats. <br/><br/>Ordered the tandoori chicken which was not heated properly. The curries/rice was also not heated properly and was cold within minutes. You would think they would make the curries fresh considering the high prices – around $18.90. The whole point in eating at a restaurant is to get fresh hot food….but despite paying a lot of money we did not get this. Staff also seemed pretty disinterested and hence service was very poor. <br/><br/>Very Disappointing!!!!!!
