Review Canton Flavor - Orewa

K
I had yumcha here about a year ago, it was very busy on a Saturday and service was friendly but slow. Today I ordered via Uber eats and the food was prepared quickly, food tasted delicious, look small portion but quite filling, prices are a bit expensive, over $10 for a dim sum..

We are living in AKL but this is our fav Dim sim restaurant. Highly recommend! Love the view - you can see beach and sea just cross the road. Nice food with fair price. Great customer service, friendly staff. If you want to spend half day somewhere near the Orewa beach and want to have some Chinese food, try it.

Best Cantonese restaurant in NZ in my experience! Best roast duck I have ever eaten in NZšŸ„°The skin is very crispy, sweet but not greasy. pineapple buns and barbecued pork buns also delicious. My son said: "Mom, this is a real pineapple bun, I can't stop eating.ā€ There is also their handmade red bean paste mooncakes, which are light, soft and very delicious!

The best Cantonese restaurant! The waiters here are amiable, and the morning tea here is uniqueness, I recommended to come in the morning or at the buffet time. Those times are the most cost-effective time. You will get a perfect meal

Canton flavour is a great place to go if you want to experience Cantonese food. Their Barbeque pork is to die for. Would recommend.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Canton Flavor restaurant that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine sense of hospitality. This restaurant truly knows how to make their guests feel welcome, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. First and foremost, I was impressed by the swift and efficient service provided by the staff. They were attentive and friendly, ensuring that my needs were met promptly. Despite the restaurant being busy, the waitstaff maintained a high level of professionalism and ensured that everyone's orders were taken and delivered in a timely manner. Their dedication to providing fast service without compromising quality truly stood out. Now, let's talk about the star of the showā€”the food! The moment the dishes arrived at my table, I knew I was in for a treat. Each dish was beautifully presented and exuded an enticing aroma. The flavors were simply outstanding, bursting with authenticity and finesse. Every bite was a delight to the taste buds. The chefs in this restaurant clearly possess a deep understanding of Chinese cuisine and are masters at their craft. One particular highlight of my dining experience was the wide variety of options available on the menu. Whether you have a preference for classic dishes or you're feeling adventurous and want to try something new, this restaurant has something for everyone. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a diverse range of flavors and ingredients. Vegetarian and vegan options were also available, ensuring that no one is left out. In conclusion, my visit was an absolute delight. The warm welcome, fast service, and most importantly, the delicious food, made it a truly memorable experience. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for an exceptional Chinese dining experience. I can't wait to return and explore more of their delightful menu offerings

At long last more than a decent Chinese Restaurant in Orewa or for that matter past Silverdale. Let's me start with complimenting the wait staff they were super friendly and provided some good recommendation. What came out on the table later was pure delight. Must put a disclaimer here am no expert in authentic Chinese cuisine but that Szechuan fish was one of the better dishes I have had in a long time. The portions are generous so the relatively costly price was worth it. Easily could work for two. The environment is good but then anything on the Orewa beach front is amazing. Top marks keep up the quality.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at canton flavour, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm and welcoming hospitality from the staff. The atmosphere of the restaurant was charming and authentic, with traditional decor and ambient lighting that created a cozy and intimate vibe. The menu was extensive and featured a variety of classic Cantonese dishes, as well as some modern interpretations that were both inventive and delicious. I started with the dim sum platter, which was a great way to sample a variety of small bites. The dumplings were perfectly steamed, with delicate wrappers and flavorful fillings that were bursting with flavor. I also enjoyed the crispy spring rolls, which had a light and flaky texture and were filled with a savory mixture of vegetables and meat. For the main course, I ordered the roasted duck, which was cooked to perfection. The skin was crispy and flavorful, while the meat was tender and juicy. The accompanying stir-fried vegetables were also delicious and complemented the duck well. To finish off the meal, I opted for the sweet and tangy mango pudding, which was a refreshing and satisfying dessert. The presentation was also beautifully done, with fresh mango slices on top and a drizzle of condensed milk. Overall, I highly recommend this Cantonese restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine. The quality of the food, the attentive service, and the welcoming atmosphere all contribute to a memorable dining experience that I'm sure to repeat in the future.

Loved the YumCha at this place. Beautiful interior and delicious dumplings. The sticky rice was amazing and the beans were great. The items were quite pricey, but the quality was exceptional, though in my opinion the fried squid tentacles portion sizes were too small for its price. Cannot speak for the meats, but the yumcha was really great. Great location and great staff. Overall had an enjoyable meal with the family. Would recommend.

We love coming here once a week. They've got nice wines and delicious meals, especially if you are like us looking for a spicy food sometimes.

Buffet yum cha every Tue night. So worth it, buffet was fast & satisfying to the brim. The staff were nice and accomodating. Will recommend to friends.

Great buffet options on Tuesday. All the yam chas and dumplings are nice and served in the timely manner. Great atmosphere and a nice place just 30 mins out of Auckland.

Canton Flavor has blown me away with the incredible authenticity of their Chinese cuisine. The restaurant serves a wide variety of dishes that are sure to satisfy your pallet. On top of this their impressive level of customer service provided by the friendly and attentive staff. It's clear that they truly care about their customers and want them to have an exceptional dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend Canton Flavor for anyone looking for delicious food and top-notch service. It's definitely a must-visit destination for any meal :)

Out of all the restaurants I have visited in the last 79 years of my life never have I ever thought I could enjoy food as much as I did before my 3rd divorce. Canton flavour has blown my standers out of the water. 5/5 will eat again

Found the amazing Yum Cha around Auckland, highly recommended for 肠ē²‰ļ¼ļ¼ļ¼Fresh is the best!!
Vishakha Mahajan
The food was very average. The lemon chicken was extremely sweet and tasted more like chicken dipped in sugar sauce. The pork buns and dumplings were the only saving grace.
Hari Agarwal
The mains were quite bad and overpriced. I'm not sure how this got rated at 3.80 when we visited.
The dim sums and baos were ok but compared the options in Orewa, dont think I would want to come back here.
Chinkee Mangente
Food is excellent and Sheena was amazing. She is very attentive to customersā€™ needs. However, Nicolas, one of the staff, was rude.
Matt Dallow
Great service, best dumplings, love the mochi. Great yum cha in Orewa! Highly recommend

Yum-char dinner on every Tuesday has lots of choices and we love the fried rice and prawn dumplings. You can order from the menu as well if you don't see the dish you like in the trolley. Staff are nice and keep asking if we need anything else. Great location and nice environment.

Slow service

Bad service and food way below average. This is unfortunate but acceptable - we can't expect all restaurants to be good in terms of food, service, and value. What makes me angry is that their Yum Cha "buffet" is definitely NOT A BUFFET! If you choose not to have much of the fried rice and fried spring rolls and fried noodles and fried bread they try to stuff you with, there is a very high chance you'll be going home hungry because they will refuse to give you more than one small plate of vegetables to share between 3 grown adults. Seriously thinking of making a formal complaint to the Commerce Commission for their false advertisement that misled me to come out all the way to Orewa. This is very bad!
MoFoZed
All the dimsum and the chili chicken we ordered were amazing, pretty impressed.

Congee was too bland even with chili oil and soy sauce. Could not eat much of it.

Disappointed at the limited zomato choices offered, we had heaps of food worth 140$ but ended up with just one of the 7$ dimsum as ā€œsecond most expensiveā€ due to some dishes worth more than 23$. Pretty sneaky.

Tea being $2.50 per person when it hardly tasted like anything.

Yummy Yum Cha in nice place
Our family went there for buffet yumchar dinner on Tuesday. The food was nice, similar as other yum char restaurants but the you can eat as much as you can. Staff were very attentive and served the food we ordered quickly and kept asking if we need anything else. Kids were happy with $5 all you can drink deal. Nice environment with Seaview. Overall a very nice experience to dine in Orewa.

the food is great, the environment is relaxing and friendly.

Wow!! Just wow!! Not much more to say about this place, Dim Sum through to our desserts were incredible, had a party of four for this cover and each one of us absolutely loved it. Waiters and waitresses were very attentive (which is something to be expected at restaurants like these) had a good laugh and conversion with them. But more importantly absolutely great food!

Came in for Dim Sum and werenā€™t disappointed, they have a variety of different type of Dim Sum. Typical Dim Sum restaurant. The food came out fresh and hot, you can tell that everything is prepared on the spot. The staff was very nice and friendly and took the time to ask us exactly what we wanted and what we didnā€™t want and if we had any food restrictions. Would definitely come back here if Iā€™m looking for Dim Sum and would even try their other dishes. Saw what other tables ordered and would loved to try their noodles or rice. We did try their vegetarian spring rolls they were one of the best ones Iā€™ve had in a long time

Is it just me, or have others also noticed that their "5 star" reviews come from users with only 1 review?

The Yumchar "buffet" is technically not a buffet. They come around with carts and you can choose to have or not have the particular each particular dish, but you cannot have more of anything because the staff tell you that there has to be enough for everyone. Ended up having a lot of fried food like fried spring rolls, fried rice, and fried noodles that I don't find very interesting at all. They also charge $2.50 per person for tea, so it's technically $27.50 for the "buffet", not 25pp as advertised. I feel that there is a breach of trust here - I don't eat a lot so it was ok for me, but for people who go out of their ways to go to a "buffet", it seems deceptive in the fact that it's more like a set menu in which you only have the option to reject dishes from being served to you, rather than choosing to have what you fancy (as expected in a buffet setting). I particularly feel irritated about the blatantly calculative order they brought out the food - the cheap and filling first, so that you're completely stuffed with cheap fried food before the dim sums come out. There was also an older female staff member constantly taking photos of food and customers without consent, making it extremely uncomfortable as I found myself constantly looking at her in case she is aiming her camera at me. The fact that staff later came around to pressure us for a good Zomato review has prompted me to take off a further star.

Had the yum cha buffet here on Tuesday
Was awesome good yum cha spread
Very good price and with all you can drink fizzy
Place was clean and the staff were super friendly
We definitely will be back soon
Thanks
this is the best restaurant in New Zealand bar none

Best Yum Cha in North Shore! Yum Cha with sea view, you canā€™t find it in anywhere else. High quality dim sin, nice services, and friendly to children, excellent place for family or friend catch-up. I like their congee and dumplings, very fresh and yummy. Will definitely come back.

Wayson gave lovely service

don't be fooled with their pictures. what they served to you, especially if you're on second session, are only about 1/3 of what are showing in the pictures. everything else you have to ask otherwise you will not get them. this is NOT yumcha all about. they were supposed to roll them out - ALL what is showing in the picture - to you on a cart, that is the CORRECT yumcha serving. and no, it's not because they're already gone to the tables closest to the kitchen (i can see from where i was sitting) - they are not actually served most of them. food taste was OK - just the average yumcha quality - had better quality foods from other yumcha places which is closer to home (star cafe).
Sharon Louie
I came here with my family for the $25 per person buffet dinner on Tuesday. First of all, it is an absolute deal considering yumcha itself isnā€™t cheap and secondly, itā€™s all you can eat. There is a time limit from 5:30 to 7 though.

The service is excellent, the young female worker was really nice and we also asked another older woman if we needed to order the egg tarts or if they would be pushed out to us and she said that we could get it from the cart. However, a few minutes later, she returned with 4 egg tarts, she was absolutely lovely!

The food itself was delicious too! Flavourful and really good in general. I highly recommend the scallop and shrimp dumplings, they were so sweet! If you dip it in the chilli oil, it makes it 100% times better. I also highly recommend the buns like char siu buns and the pineapple buns. There are actual pineapple in the pineapple bun because usually, there isnā€™t any. The buns are quite small so you can try everything!

The only downside is itā€™s in Orewa so itā€™s a bit far if you live in Central Auckland but definitely worth the trip!

Quality of food very high. Good cuts of meat used. Portions very generous. Service was excellent - we were looked after by Wayson. As far as buffets are concerned - this is a game changer. Be sure to book in advanced.

Went here on Tuesday for buffet yum cha with few friends. Not knowing how buffet would work and if there was time limit. We were immediately sorted even tho we were 15 min early.

The food came out in trolleys like any other yum cha place. They had a good variety of food. Felt like they had everything minus the intestines. Wish they did few more rounds with the trolley but the staff for great enough to get anything we wanted from kitchen.

Only disappointment I had was that it got really stuffy in the restaurant. Was not a really big let down at all cause the food and drink made up for it.

One must recommendation I would make to the restaurant and something I hate which happened in the restaurant is people wasting big amount of food. I would recommend that restaurant put a surcharge for people donā€™t respect the food or the hardship that went into to prep the food.

Overall experience was really great and will defiantly be coming back for yum cha. Maybe a discount this time as well hehe.

Love their all you can eat AYCE dim sum, yum char. Two hours time limit but you will be full to the brim. Only $29pp and make sure you book way in advance as they are fully booked pretty fast. The four of us drove all the way to Orewa and we were not disappointed. Generous flow of dumplings, sounds maid, fried food, buns, sweet sour pork, variety of noodles, steam ribs, desserts and DD so much more. Don't expect service all the time though as they are really busy but if you have any requests, they would happily oblige if you manage to get someone's attention.

We went to canton flavor restaurant last night in orewa on table 5 , first of all the food is absolutely delicious, all of us love it .you walk into restaurant you can feel the construction style is just right stand as orewa beach ,itā€™s good place to invite or meet friend. I am sure we will be back soon!

I was not enjoyed this Yumcha buffet. The food was dry and bland. At beginning, we had not idea how to start to eat. No free drinks. The choices of food were not as many as normal Yumcha. Food was limited and maybe finished when you have a turn to order it, because the waiter pushed the trolley and serviced for other tables, you have to wait and wait. We are happy to spend $50 for two people on Yamcha but no here.
Rachael Quayle
Have been several times for Buffet Yum Char. Good value for money and very tasty. We have enjoyed the Yum char with just two of us and a larger booking for 12 and they as mentioned both times have been great.
Vivian C
We came here for the weekly Tuesday night yum cha buffet for $25. One of my friends made his way all the way from Mangere for this meal.

We were a bit confused at the start as we had no idea how the buffet worked and no one told us anything. But after a few minutes of waiting in confusion, carts started getting pushed out from the kitchen. If you were interested in whatever was coming around, you just let the staff know, hand over your plate and tell them how much you want. There was a good range of items coming around and I appreciated that the buns and noodles were smaller sizes than usual so you can try everything, but not get full from the carb heavy items immediately.

Iā€™m usually not a huge fan of yum cha in NZ as I find that itā€™s never as good as the ones I have in China. However, the food here was actually really good, flavourful, and fresh. My favourites were the large spring rolls, steamed chives and prawn dumplings, prawn toast, and the siu mai. The meal was definitely very worth for $25 as you get to try a much larger variety of items compared to normal yum cha.
Leah N-Wells
One of the best yumcha restaurants I've tried and I've tried many. The flavours were on point some of the freshest ingredients the decor the service right down to the cutlery & dishware amazing.
We can't wait to come back for all you can eat

Emma Thomas
Came with a group of four early into opening. Went with the menu rather than Yum Char. I had the Peking Duck and this was definitely delicious. We weren't keen on sharing our meals with eachother, which seemed to upset the staff a little. Nice place, will try again maybe with the Yum Char.
Bright One
Walked past and saw the restaurant has good views. Unfortunately food were bland and dry. These people have no idea how to make yum cha at all.
Liah Bernard
Great food and excellent service.. We went here for $25 buffet yum Cha, totally worth it.. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.. #Wayson, you're the best.. Will definitely be back soon..

It is great we find a Chinese restaurant at Orewa . The food here is very delicious and staff is very friendly. The decor is very Chinese. We will be back.

Me and my BF had a wonderful dinner in Canton Flavor Orewa, the food is great!!! We ordered Peking Duck and some dim sum. OMG!! The duck is soooooooo great! Love it. Highly recommended!!! The best thing is with the great food, the service is also great!!! Staff is friendly and patient!! By the way!! Go! Go for it! Go and try the great food! You wonā€™t be disappointedšŸ˜ƒ
Auckland_foodie
We went there for lunch and I showed the ZG before we were seated at the table. We were given two menus - a dim sum menu and a dinner menu. We decided to order from the dinner menu and placed the order and was later informed that the dinner menu is not available for ZG and we have to order from the dim sum menu. So we cancelled our order and then order from the dim sum menu. The lady in the restaurant said the staff were not informed which menu is applicable for ZG on the weekend and that the chef will not cook the dishes from the dinner menu. It would be good if staff communicate among themselves and give the customer the correct menu to order. Anyway the food came; we had siu mai, har gow, fried squid, steamed pork buns, prawn toast, bean curd rolls stuff with pork and jasmine tea. The food was bland and falls short. The ambience is nice , well setup but other than that, itā€™s a disappointment . The place is a write-off for us.
Charel
Nice atmosphere as restaurant is new, would be ideal for family outing. Food is rather bland, dry and not authentic, not recommended for those looking for authentic flavours
Adrianna
Friendly customer service and good food. We ordered half peking duck, stir fry choy sum with garlic, sweet and sour chicken. Portions were smaller than expected, however still worth the Zomato Gold experience. Would come back again.
Tiffany Kaur
The dim sum on offer is delicious and the drinks are great. If you're looking for somewhere to get plastered this isn't the place for you but if you're looking to have sophisticated classy drinking and eating experience then definitely check out this place.
Paul Halton
Bought takeout from here - half a duck and some veggies. The duck was served on broken up prawn crackers - it was a small portion and all skin. The veggies conspired to be under cooked and greasy. Overall, not happy.
Jaclyn Everett
My friends and I were craving for dim sum so we decided to take a long distance to Orewa, a good reputation yum cha restaurant. - we weren't disappointed. The food was amazing and the service quick. Will definitely be back for more dim sum!
Aimee Rothwell
Was a lovely meal, everything we ordered was delicious especially the dumplings! However the bbq porkwas served warm, it would have been perfect if it had been served hot! Will defiantly be back.

One of our favorite local restaurants in Orewa. Authentic asian food and yum cha. Location is very accessible, just across Orewa Beach. Prices are reasonable. So many options on their menu. Our favorite is their coriander and prawn dumplings. Their congee and wanton soup helped me out during my chemo when I cannot tolerate other food. So visit them if you havenā€™t been there. Highly recommended.
Vanessa
One of our favourite places to eat. Good personal service with a smile and tasty fresh food. The dumplings are amazing so is the garlic bok choy definitely recommend you try this restaurant...
Daisy Browning
I am so happy with my experience at this place, I called few hours earlier and booked but you also can walk in. The food was so delicious and everyone enjoyed it , service was very good and above all the price was fairly reasonable. will return back there soon.
Jeanette Medina
This place was full of tasty surprises. A traditional chinese cuisine, amazing dim sum, yum char and a fast service. A sign that the food is good is so many people here every day. Will definitely be back!
Robbin
I love the yum cha here, it is the best yum cha ever, the dumpling was delicious and the coconut jelly was a very good the service was excellent
Hardeep Macfarlane
This was a great dinner. They had a lot of different kinds of dumplings and spicy fried noodles. The tea was very good too. Although they were crowded the service was fast and attentive!Ā
It's our favourite Chinese restaurant in Auckland. Great food, friendly and very helpful staff, good location and atmosphere. Not overpriced. Really the best.
Jessica Harrison
Amazing food with great service and decent prices. We went for dinner and ordered a few appetizers and heartier dishes. Our tea cups were never empty thanks to the very attentive wait staff, and we even ordered a second round that came out very fast. Overall a great spot for a cute date night or to have some amazing Cantonese-style food.
Brigitte Todd
Hands down this is the best Chinese restaurant in Auckland. I've been let down by many restaurants with their fake Chinese food.
Canton Flavor has good service and respects the elderly customers. The Mapo tofu on rice is so fluffy and the sauce is very traditional.
This simply is the best in Auckland for Chinese food.
Jun S
Always love this restaurant since they were open in Silverdale. Lovely people, great foods! This time we ordered roast pork, beef with ginger and spring onions, plus still add some yum cha menus. All good.!
Simon L
The food here is delicious and authentic.Ā
The ambiance is really nice.
The service is fast and friendly.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends!
Tony Liang
Awesome place! Delicious food. Definitely a great place to eat with family and friends. The price is affordable too. Definitely would return again.
Colin (Kangling) Zhang
Amazing food and great service. The only authentic Yum Cha and Chinese restaurant I have ever known to have a panoramic ocean view in NZ. Can't wait to go back again.
Hiway2002
Nice and genuine Cantonese yum char and seafood restaurant, been here many times and surely will keep coming back. Great taste, warm and fast service, excellent environment (inside and outside - just across Orewa beach). Best Cantonese restaurant Iā€™ve been to!
Charis Yang
Foods are a bit too salty for us, but the portion is alright for its price. The environment and interior is lovely, great to enjoy. I personally prefer their dim sum menu, as they are less pricey and greater quality.

Good service and nice food.We all enjoyed this meal and expect a discount next time šŸ˜†šŸ˜†.We spent a wonderful night in here and we will come back to try something else as well!
this is my first time to go there,it's near to the orewa beach, and the scene is very beautiful! In this restaurant,it's mainly for Cantonese foods, which are not spicy but traditional. I recommend to all of your guys!!

Absolutely my favorite Yum Cha restaurant in Auckland. Almost goĀ thereĀ every week. Super fresh and yummy food. Always have the cute new products. Very friendly and helpful staffs. They can even remember my favorite thingsĀ and the food I can't eat. Too sweet, must go have a try.

I love this place so much! I will always come back. The food is soo good! My go to is the Peking duck pancakes, coriander and prawn dumplings and steamed bbq pork buns! Their marinated deep fried tofu is also amazing. They never fail to impress and service is always great. Definitely worth a visit

The best Fujian Fried Rice Iā€™ve ever eaten in Aucklandļ¼

Nice atmosphere and service, staff are all friendly.

I will come back to try dim sums next time.
Canton Flavor
Authentic Chinese restaurant serving Yum Cha and classic Cantonese food beside Orewa beach.

Their Dim Sum Chef has more than 20 years to make all kinds of traditional Dim Sums. As a foodie who have been lived in Hong Kong 10 years, I would like to say it definitely worth driving 30 minutes to try.

Atmosphere and service are nice.

Have a walk on beautiful Orewa beach or go to pick clams in Shakespeare Park after meal.

You can spend a wonderful weekend with your family there.
Aria Fuller
Affordable and delicious - definitely a good choice a casual, local dinner.
Tofu beautifully cooked and the coconut buns for dessert were a nice way to finish the meal.
Would recommend.
Elz Quin
Ordered takeaway c/o my friends and I was pleased to have a taste of their pork siomai or siu mai. It was reallyy goooood. One of the best. Stir fried noodles were also good. It was not very oily. Duck and lemon chicken were average. Overall... will come back to try more!

First time going here with my family, my bf & I live in south Auckland so we go to a lot of yum chaā€™s. I like the atmosphere, the music they were playing was right up our alley. Service was good although the lady stopped us from ordering bc she thought we had ordered too much haha. All the food was hot, good flavours, we ate everything and the lady was amazed šŸ˜‚ to finish off our yummy dinner I ordered ice cream balls for everyone to try, they were a hit.

Staff were lovely!
Food was amazing!
Will be going back for my birthday meal.

Especially loved the sesame coated peanut butter ball thingys!
I have been to this restaurant at least 6 times since it opened in Orewa. The food has always been consistently good. My son had just come back to NZ front the Uk for Xmas and we decided on Canton Flavor for dinner. The dim sum for entre were excellent as usual. For the mains we had the the combination fried rice with MaPo tofu , Sizzling beef and the Kung Po Chicken. We asked Alice our waitress to bring the food out in a certain order and thatā€™s what happened. This place serves authentic Chinese food which is excellent.
Great food , great service and excellent value for money.
With all the restaurants popping up in Orewa this place is hard to beat.
A big thanks to Verne and his team.
Samantha Hyland
Was our first time visiting and we absolutely LOVED the food. We chose lots of small items off the Yum Cha Menu and all of the food was so full of flavour. Service was great & the food came out very fast also. All round great meal and service & we will definitely be back! YUM!

This Restaurant has only been open 3 and a half weeks as of today 08/09/2018. I highly recommend it. Place was packed and the food was delicious. Not to be confused with the Canton Flavor in Silverdale. Staff were friendly and efficient. Address is 348 Hibiscus coast Highway Fully licenced Not BYO
