Review Riverstone Cafe - Otaki

The best seafood chowder I have ever eaten! The fish and chips and nachos were okay. Customer service was efficient. It was an extremely busy day (26th Dec) so inside the restaurant was a little cramped. The art on the walls was lovely!

A lovely, heartwarming meal at this countryside cafe. Best Lamb Fry ever and best Mocha ever!!! In small town Otaki where everyone knows everyone, it's good to know people here cos reservations were much easier 😅

Lovely cafe with nice food. Very pleasant atmosphere and loved the friendly tame sparrows! Was able to dine outside in the rain (staying clear of Covid!) and remained dry thanks to the umbrellas that have good coverage.

If you have read any of my reviews then you may know that I am a bit of a pie fan. Well this place certainly scratched that itch! I had a potato top, the potato was fluffy, the pastry was thin and crispy, and the filling was tasty, in this case with a hint of curry. My wife had the bacon and egg, as per usual and was very happy with her choice. I also had a club sandwich, as I hadn't had one in a few years, and it was delish, a perfect 'traditional' club sandwich. We finished this off with a melting moment biscuit, and this was a beast of a thing! Enough for 3! Rich, sweet and with a nice buttery centre. Stop in here if you get the chance to get out of the traffic!

Big Breakfast $24.50. Lambs Fry and Bacon $17. Fantastic meals. Awesome service. Definitely recommend and will call in again.

Stopped in for a breakky/brunch on our way through and it did not disappoint. Food and drinks arrived promptly and were delicious. Was able to build your own breakky from the sides listed. The staff were all very lovely highly recommend this place.

Nice vibes during summer and chill place to hangout if you can grab a table under the umbrella. I had their chicken sandwich which was $7 and lemonade. I am always in the hunt of trying new lemonades and they seem to have a good variety too. My husband had the bacon bap, he was not truly satisfied because they didn't heat the bap and it felt like it was from yesterday and was very chewy. So make sure to ask if their cabinet food is fresh. From Ala Carte my friend ordered their omlette which was very nourishing and he ended up sharing some with us which means good size. We will be back but will make sure to order from their Ala Carte menu instead. Coffee was also nice 👌 Good day :)

Service food and atmosphere are all good even in the early hours of the morning which is impressive. The salmon Benedict was lovely and I wish I had there recipe well worth a stop by if your in Otaki.

Beautiful decked outdoor garden environment tucked away amongst ponga trees & hydrangeas. The cafe is set back off the road & remarkably quiet given that it's on SH1. Our food arrived very quickly, and was delicious. My chicken schnitzel burger meal was tweeked to make it Keto and they added an egg for good measure 😋. Best meal out that I've had in ages. I thoroughly recommend Riverstone Cafe to anyone.

Always stop here on the way through Otaki. Food is great value and I like the coffee. Very relaxed.great to sit outside too.

Went to this cafe on a Friday morning on our way through Otaki. First impression was a nice, cozy cafe. Took a while to be served at the counter and took even longer for our food to come out. We ordered a “Wee Brekkie” and a “Veggie Brekkie”. What arrived at our table after a good 20min wait was the Wee Brekkie and a Veggie Omelette. The omelette was taken away and the Wee Brekkie left. It took another 10 or so minutes for the Veggie Brekkie to come out. The eggs were ordered as scrambled but they came out as poached. Did not want to wait again so left the eggs. Food was nice, but nothing special, just what you would expect from any cafe. Quite disappointed with our visit. Something needs to be done about the flies as well, perhaps a UV light catcher or an automatic fly spray dispenser.

A cosy, colourful cafe with a good menu and a great cabinet selection. If you can't choose which slice to buy you can get a tasting plate of 4 to try for the same price, which is great for two!

Service what quite a rush, this could be due to the Public holiday (Labour Day) also good took about a half an hour but in my opinion the BLT and the CLAT we had was definitely worth the wait. There were a lot of fries but you can never have too much fries 😂😍 it’s a cute and relaxing place to have breakfast.

Second time we have stopped here in the last few months. Staff are always friendly and the food have been great. highly recommend - we will definitely be back next time we are passing through. The Think-shakes are amazing!

My partner and I travelled from the Hutt and stopped by for a light lunch and coffee. We enjoyed it so much, great location, great service and delicious product. How lucky we were to discover this spot! We even went back the next morning for a coffee and smoothie for the trip home. Awesome!

I had the pleasure of dining at Riverstone Cafe over the busy Queens Birthday Weekend. The cafe was packed but the staff were attentive and lovely. The cashier had a good knowledge of Celiac Disease and was very helpful with my meal. Will definitely be returning!

A nice start to my day when I stroll downfrom the gorge. Has art :) fresh made cabinet food and friendly staff. I am a coffee fiend so enjoy a cup here.<br/><br/>Another child friendly cafe with toys for tots.

Found this great cafe on the weekend and will definitely be a repeat visitor. Not only was the food great, the customer service was outstanding. Just wish there were more outdoor seats, it looked so beautiful in the sun.

I have to say this place it a bit of a hidden gem. Tucked in beside Kathmandu on the main road, i'd always seen it and finally gave it a go. Smoked fish pie - if you a fan you MUST try this, worth every cent. We dined on a public holiday and NO SURCHARGE!!! and i'd go back even if it just was for Butterscotch slice it was so yummy. Good service meals came out pretty close together. Friendly staff, great range of food to suit the foodie or those on budget that just have a gap to fill. Family friendly yet plenty of room if you just want a space to chill away from kids.

I want to say that I have been going to Riverstone Cafe for over 5yrs now. I have always recommended Riverstone Cafe even before the new owners took over and to this very day the new owners and staff are always friendly, they know me by first name basis, so they are practically like family and that is what I like. I still continue to recommend Riverstone cafe to clients or even if someone asks me where is a good place to eat, of course my preference would be Riverstone Cafe. Very yummy food, probably the best Brownie I've had- the right mix of crunch and softness. We had cabinet food all very tasty. Wonderful service and a great mix of children's toys for the young ones.

We popped in for breakfast today. Excellent friendly service. Nice ambience. I had eggs bene. Requested a half portion which was no problem. My husband devoured the big breakfast. The service was quick. The food excellent...and the coffee aromatic and hot. Good on you Otaki!!

We just wanted a quick savoury snack at lunchtime. There was a really good choice of savoury &amp; sweet items, in fact too much choice! I had a quiche &amp; hubby a sausage roll. Both were wonderfully tasty &amp; reasonably priced. Staff really friendly as well.

Every visit i make to Otaki - i always stop in at RiverStone Cafe for a quick something to eat and drink.<br/>Each visit has always been an absolute delight with friendly service and amazing delicious food. <br/>just recently I experienced the Seafood Chowder, well well well, i have never ever tasted a chowder as delicious as this one before, now cant wait to visit again so i can have more!<br/>Every mouthful had a chunk of seafood on it, it was so tasty, came with nice yummy yummy breads too.<br/>Have also had a milkshake which was really fantastic!<br/>The Service is also amazingly friendly, which is hard to find these days.

I popped in recently for a quick lunch, I had the Thai beef salad, and it was delicious! The dressing was stunning! Beef cooked perfectly, and the salad was topped with roast capsicum. It was just what I needed to get me home. Beautiful coffee too and great service. The outside area was full, so unfortunately didn't get a chance to enjoy the sun, but it was quiet and pleasant inside. Definitely will go back.
