We came across this place as we was staying at a camp site around the corner. So we decided to Google the reviews on the Lumberjack cafe & Restaurant and we started reading them we could not resist after the comments. Well when you walk in it was a wonderful and comforting feeling we had and a lovely welcome from a lady which we found out it was a family run business and she was the owner and her husband was the chef. Well we started with garlic bread and wow 👌 👏 and me and the wife had the steak 😋 and yes the food was fantastic and well presented and plenty of. Overall the lady was lovely and very helpful I wish I could give 6 stars 🌟 I would highly recommend this little gem if you are staying in the area or passing by thank you very much Lumberjacks.

Dropped in whilst on holiday down here. It was just really good in all departments. The food and portion size was excellent with a good choice. Lovely service from a Yorkshire lass and a log fire on a slightly chilly evening. It's not big so maybe the best to book.

Nothing much to see from the outside but that all changes the moment you walk in. Greeted by friendly staff which lead on to an amazing meal. He had the pulled beef roll which he enjoyed. I opted for the salmon and had no idea how much I adored the carlalisation on the edges until I ate it here. Ended up having quite the chat fest with other diners and our hostess shared her local knowledge. Wonderful place.

We ate lunch here twice on our way down and back through the Catlins from Dunedin. Great food with a wide variety of choices to suit our picky eaters. Good size restaurant and can cater for larger groups. Service was friendly, efficient and helpful. Highly recommend!

Excellent meals and service from lovely staff. Everything arrived in a timely manner and was delicious. We had lunch there but imagine an evening meal would be possibly better when they get the fireplace going.

Arrived late after a full on day of sight seeing. They were closed and the allowed our group of 7 people in. Service, hospitality and food was awesome. Great little spot to grab some good food. Would highly recommend. Thank you for having us last night.

Great place, was driving through on my way to photograph a wedding, staff were super friendly. I got the Lumberjack burger. Was probably one of the best I’ve had.

Me and my partner saw this place open in Owaka looking for somewhere to eat and were very pleasantly surprised. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated. The lovely waitress was quick to take our drink orders inform us of specials and bring us water. We both ordered the lumberjack burger. I have dietary requirements and forgot to mention them ordering the food, we quickly realised and informed the waitress who was very quick to correct it and give me alternatives without changing the meal. Very impressed. The food arrived quickly and was delicious, we even ordered dessert and we never do. The dairy free brûlée was very tasty and hit the spot. Would absolutely recommend stopping here for a bite to eat!

This was the best dining experience I had during my 3-week trip of Aotearoa New Zealand. I ordered the grilled orange roughy that came with purĂ©ed kumara, roasted veggies, and bacon butter. It was beautiful as it was delicious! All the flavors and textures were harmonious. The fish was light and flaky, the purĂ©ed kumara was silky smooth, and the veggies and bacon provided the crunch. Top it all with lemon and the acidity balanced the fattiness of the bacon butter. Also, you can’t go wrong with any dish that comes with bacon! As far as service, infinity stars! First of all, the ambience is so inviting. It was cold and rainy that day. The restaurant is essentially like a cabin, fireplace and all. And the woman who greeted us did so warmly. She has this positive vibe and you can’t help but feel welcomed. She’s also very efficient! She took our names when we placed our orders since she knew we were going to be paying separately. But her memory is so good that she knew our names when we were at the counter. I highly recommend this place and I would love to come back in the future.
