Review Kumars Something Special Restaurant - Paeroa

Ahmazing food. Explosive flavours and subtle spiciness for the mild lovers. Comforting ambience and kingfisher on tap. The dip that comes with the papadums is out of this world flavour. You definitely need to stop on your drive through Paeroa, you'd be pleasantly surprised.

Such a lovely place. We came for a family dinner without a booking and felt very warmly welcomed. The service was exceptional and the food was excellent. You get a vast amount of choices, also vegetarian. I had a delicious mushroom & pea curry, non-spicy (according to my order), but very flavorful (which is not always a given). If I’m ever in the area again, I’d love to come back to eat at Kumar’s.

The service was nice and food was good. Atmosphere had its own ambiance I enjoyed. Over all was enjoyable

Overall was great and the portions were generous too. The cheesy Naan was extra cheesy better than the rest of the Indian places I've been. Butter chicken was great too not your average butter chicken flavor(like the food court in the malls) this one tasted authentic, absolutely delicious.

Hands down, the best Indian meals for miles and our new go-to! Generous servings, decadent and flavourful sauces. THE BEST Naan and Pakora I've ever had. I don't have pics of our food because it was that good! Treat yourself and book a table or a takeaway meal asap! Next time I'll take pics 😊😊

staff were friendly enough and it was an enjoyable meal. Only disappointment was the table service although the initial engagement was great and meal order done promptly....it was well after the meal served and enjoyed, that no one returned to check on us the table remaining uncleared even as we got up to leave....didn't feel special...

Absolutely delicious! Will be back again! Just popped in for takeout as we were driving through. Honestly best Indian we have had!

Lamb korma and butter chicken were some of the best we’ve ever tried. Read the menu until the last page where you can find the heartwarming story of Kumar’s family (with everyone helping out in the kitchen). Each meal felt truly home-made. Great potato naan as well.

Amazing food, I was told 30 minutes and it was more like 50 minutes, but well worth the wait. Generous portions and the naan bread was fresh and smokey.

Me and my friends decided to eat some good indian desi food. So we went to kumar's dine-in.We ordered country Chicken , dum biryani, naan, kadhai paneer and fish curry. Food was soo yummy, spicy too, quantity was good enough to fill your desi food cravings. Staff was very friendly and helpful. But dine-in is expensive. They dont serve halal. Thank you.

We recently dined at Kumars and inquired about the banquet. We were told it was a surprise and he was sure we wouldn't be disappointed. The selection of food we received was delicious and it has to be said the food and the friendly service is the highlight in this place. We will be back with more people for the banquet!

Ate with a group at this restaurant last night while passing through Paeroa. I asked for a mixture of two entrees to be made as a main for dinner (I couldn't choose between them!) and they happily obliged. I was delighted with the prawns and mussels side by side. Very delicious breads. We enjoyed meeting with the owner and the homely atmosphere. I agree with the preceding reviews. The creme brulee (Indian Style) was something from out of this world. YUMMMMM While we live in Auckland, this restaurant must be Paeroa's best kept secret for out of towners. Very reasonable prices and we will be back ..... SOON.

My wife and I were staying at nearby Waikino and, after seeing some glowing reviews of this place, felt compelled to check it out. The restaurant was half full on a Saturday night. We were shown to a table directly below a florescent light tube that diminished our first impressions. We started with a couple of nice cumin poppodums. The Indian music that played was pretty ordinary however. Several of the reviews had raved about a dish called Kumar's Country Chicken, so this was a must. To this we also ordered a Lamb Vindaloo and Pershwari Naan. The dishes are brought out in heated metal bowls, each on a wooden tray -- similar to a sizzling platter. The chicken curry was nice enough but not an absolute must have. It had a high ratio of gravy to meat. And the gravy was more akin to a soup -- think of a soupy chicken tikka masala. The vindaloo had a thicker sauce with a few whole cloves of garlic, garnished with a dried chilli and fresh curry leaves. It was devoid of the hallmark vinegar flavour, and an overly sweet flavour profile didn't help either. The pershwari naan was fine but not "the best I've ever had" as described by reviewers on other sites. The rice over cooked. The toilet was huge (could've fitted a queen size bed it it) and functional. Handee towels were the only available method to dry one's hands. The service was fine. The dining environment was uninspiring, with all the walls painted in a bright shade of red. All up the place doesn't live up to its "something special" restaurant name, and rather is a 7 out of ten kind of place. But then there's not much else ethnically comparable in Paeroa.

We live in Paeroa and are regulars at Kumars. They have the best Indian food ever, we have given up trying other Indian restaurants cause we are sick of being disappointed (even in Australia). Delicious, yummy food and not to mention the fantastic friendly service. Kumar don't you ever close down!<br/>Sue &amp; Wal.

We dined here recently whilst doing the Hauraki Gulf Rail Trail Cycle trail. This was the best Indian meal that my husband and I have ever eaten - it was, quite simply, DELICIOUS! Spicy and subtle - yummy! We are from England and have eaten a great many Indian meals, including ones cooked by friends, so we feel competent judges. There was another large family dining, and they were obviously 'regulars' and we know why!

We are regulars because we love the food and have become known to the Kumar family who remember our standard order of Prawn Masala and Kumars Country Chicken..yuummee. We also think their Pashwari is the best this side of India. We bring our friends and family to share this wonderful experience Kumars provides and they love it so much they now suggest taking us when they come to stay so they get to eat there. Kumars began as a warm and friendly place with awesome food and atmosphere and continues to remain the same. How lucky are we to have Kumars in Paeroa.!

Kumars is a family restaurant selling the traditional food I would eat in India rather than something bent to fit an Indian idea of western tastes. We have been enjoying eating there and getting take-aways there ever since they set up their first shop in Paeroa and have watched the family become more kiwi as the kids grow up, but the food remains staunchly Indian. We still take guests and family there as a treat, and you can't give a better reference than regular repeated custom.

We love this place and the food they serve, especially the country chicken curry, naan bread and onion pakoras. What we find different with Kumars' compared to other restaurant is the homely ambience, service and taste. When we were living in Thames we used to have food, in kumars, once in a week, but since we moved to Auckland we visit them whenever possible. Awesome place to be.

Great food !!!! I go there every time I am in Paeroa. The Indian food is as Indian as it can get, just like how my mom makes it. My favourite dishes would have to be their Butter Chicken &amp; Rohan Josh. Kumars has a great atmosphere for the whole family, and most importantly, is the cleanest Indian restaurant I have been to, as far as I can remember. All in all I would have to say that Kumars really do have something special about their food.
