Review King Wah Restaurant - Paihia

A must visit restaurant everytime I come to Paihia. I always receive warm and excellent services from ah Jing, Mei jie, and ah Wei at the express counter. They now have sushi too, tasty and cheap! I've came to this restaurant for so many times, it's great visit every time.

Very welcoming atmosphere eating here! Was so keen on the oysters which is what I came here for hearing from a mate who said it was unlimited. Unfortunately it was limited when we came. Still the food was replenished and each tasty and fresh. Would have been a good 5 but would like to see unlimited oysters back In the menu ๐ŸŽ‰

All you can eat, great friendly service and self service also. Desserts are delicious and simple. Mains are plentiful and varied. Dishes are refilled immediately. Fresh oysters in the shell are absolutely delicious. Totally love this place.

Great food at a very good price! Where else can you find a buffet dinner for $37 a head these days? And one that includes a plate of giant, frest oysters in the price! Mains were delicious, especially the bbq pork, prawns & honey pork. Desserts were basic but good. Definitely visit this restaurant!

It was my mum's 91st Birthday, It was the first time I had been here. Was not to sure where to go, so I went early. found the place than the rest of the family turned up. Oh my Goodness, the food was divine, the fresh oysters that you order, prawns yummy, Duck was absolutely delicious. It was as much as you want meal. The price was reasonable. I will be back. Oh don't forget to book a table if you have a few people attending. I will be back.

The food was always fantastic, worth every $$ you payed. On this particular night, the restaurant was filling up fast, Cashier was clearly inundated with large group bookings walking in. But handled the situation quick and efficiently. And a great team of staff/table staff on, just kept the whole floor buzzing. I rate this establishment highly because my experiences at King Wah always be the same, Pleasurable.

I was gifted a kahawai fish from the cruise today and brought it to King Wah to see if they would cook it for us. The lady warned me that fish is normally not eaten as the meat is not good but we asked them to try nonetheless. They turned it into two dishes for us for $80. A bit hefty yes but it was surprisingly good! Gives me confidence in their buffet, which was very popular with the locals. The place was packed all night in the middle of low season.

Great selection of tasty kai that is continually replenished. If the restaurant is full there is always outside undercover courtyard seating with a cozy ambiance created by all the fairy lights and outdoor gas heating....loved my experience here with my meice last night...we dined over a 2 hour period...yummiest kai...will return again. Visited again on 17June and the.bufget selection is always top notch and kept clean and tidy for presentation of kai....luff this restaurant....value for money

My best buffet experience in a while! Service was quick and warm, and the food is great - one important thing is that itโ€™s not salty, and I love that. They also top up the food very frequently including the oysters!

Beautiful food, lovely service. A la carte menu offers a great variety. Little bit pricey for what it is but it is tasty and spectacular nonetheless. The best pork dim sums we have ever had ๐Ÿ˜‹ Lovely staff too Been back twice since... wouldn't reccomend the wonton soup (unless you like super fishy shrimp flavored pork wontons) but would definitely recommend the buffet. Again, a bit pricey but I think that must just be cause the location or something. Great options and very fresh food for the buffet.

We tried the buffet for dinner. It was beyond expectation. Reasonable price, attentive service, freshly made food kept being served. Seaweed salad is the best. You get oyster for each table. The owners and staff are super friendly as well. Kids also got lollipop. Awesome experience. Will definitely visit again next time!

One of the better buffets we've been to for the price. Well stocked, good service. Everything was fresh. Would love to come back next time we're back in pihia. Also the oyster loving family members were certainly not disappointed.

We had Chinese New Year dinner at King Wah. The team was very welcoming and friendly. Great service and food. Fresh big oysters, crunchy and juicy bbq pork and more. We had great time and kids received red packets from Boss Lady too! Definitely recommend this place.

Portion size for a main dish is very pricey compared to big cities like Auckland. All other food on the menu also pricey, could be because it is the only Chinese restaurant in the Paihia town. Taste is so so.
Good service..we arrived to a full restaurant but they were happy to accommodate. Good service and price, recommend this place for the non fussy eater. Food was delicious and the oysters were on point ๐Ÿ‘
Bought 3 dishes - sweet and sour chicken, the lemon chicken and the vegetarian chow mein. Super bland food unfortunately, average portion for incredibly big price tag. Would not return :( disappointing $18.90 for an average meal with soggy chicken and bland sauce...

Appalling service. Came here with my family and my under 1 year old, only to be first offered seating outside- in winter. When there was seats inside and we were happy to wait for them to clear. Then it gets worse, to have not 1 staff but 2 telling me I will have to pay for my baby to be there. That he is taking up a seat, that he might make a mess, that if he has one drop of food itโ€™s policy. Absolutely ridiculous, he is not even 1, and I would probably waste more food on my own plate than what he would eat. She even suggested that the cost was because he might have ice cream. Who would be giving an under 1 ice cream?! I am disappointed because my Mum being a local loves coming to this for the oysters, but we will no longer come somewhere that you are made to feel so unwanted with terrible service.

This place is very expensive and the buffet is the best value. There is a good supply of the local oysters available and due to the placing being busy, all the food was fresh.

A very limited wine menu matched with average service.

Worth a try, but would not wait for a table.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Northland! We live in Whangarei and will make special trips up to Paihia just to eat at King Wah.We have gone there for Birthdays,Mothers day,you name it.We have also taken visitors there just to show them how good it is.The food is absolutely brilliant, and the service is outstanding. The owners Son "Jimmy" is awesome. He does most of the waiting and has a fantastic memory. He has got to know us now,so he knows what we drink and has even remembered most of the dishes that we regularly order. He always goes out of his way to make sure we are looked after and are well informed with any specials or changes to the menu. They always have the food on our table in record time and always excellent quality. We will drive past all the Whangarei restaurants just to go to King Wah. Well worth the 40 min drive.

Wonderful restaurant, their buffet supply the best oyster we had in NZ, I will say even better than Bluff. Other food are also good and affordable. Will be the only restaurant for us next time. Highly recommanded to all.

Definitely the place to eat in Paihia. The buffet is good but try something a bit more adventurous from the menu. Personal favourite is the fried tofu with chilli accompanined by a plate of noodles. Yum!

I went there for a short holiday break .. The price is so EXPENSIVE compare to Auckland :( cos me a bomb .. We(mean 4 of us) ordered 4 dishes & cost almost $200, only 4 dishes can you imagine that. The quality of food is too oily & salty a bit. NOTHING SPECIAL :(

I have dined at this cozy restaurant and buffet many times. Its the best food in Paihia as well as being the best Chinese food in the Northland anywhere.
But if you just want a good fish dinner, go there.
They have a huge selection of meats, seafood, vegies and desserts at low prices. Very consistent. Great for 2 or for a larger group. Enjoy!
