Review Cafe Jacko - Palmerston North

Had breakfast here this morning and was greeted by a lovely man who had a big smile on his face. From the moment we walked in we could feel the beautiful atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and they had fast service even though they were busy. All the staff were friendly too. It may be difficult to find a park on George street but there is free parking underneath Harvey Norman for 2 hours.

Had breakfast here on Saturday morning and it was so delicious. The food was amazing, the staff were super pleasant and the service outstanding. Drinks offered as soon as we sat down so we didn't have to wait long and food came out really quickly. Will definitely go back to try more of their menu. Also loved they had a great variety of yummy looking cabinet food!

First time here. We came up to Palmy for a surprise for my Birthday to see one of my good friends. We met here. She has gone there a lot. The coffee was amazing and I got the salmon bagel. It was so yum! Definitely will be back next time we are up that way ❤️

Very happy! I was visiting Papaioia and googled best places to eat. This place had awesome reviews and it didn't dissapoint. As soon as I walked in, I felt the awesome vibes. The waiter brought the bid of toys for my son and the kai was really good, we kept coming back.

Such a wonderful cafe! It was my first time and I was welcomed with such friendly and kind staffs. I was seated and being served effectively. I have the seafood Boulabaisse and it was soooo hearty, filling and yummy. My latte was good as well. You guys deserve a good tip$$$!

Definitely one of the best French Toast I've had. Their iced chocolate is so yummy—generous amount of chocolate sauce and whipped cream on top.

A busy vibrant cafe with an efficient, charismatic waitress. She must be an asset to the business. I can't remember her name but she was blonde and quite tall. Eggs were perfectly cooked. Thank you for an enjoyable experience!

Mince on toast was great and so is the massive peppermint slice! Service was incredible, could not fault the staff at all, they were so welcoming and friendly, some of those self proclaimed ‘upper class’/ swanky restaurants could learn something off these guys! Food came out quick and was perfect. Can see why it is such a popular spot. Already planning our next 2 hour drive just to have another meal here!

One the best breakfast places visited. Classic Kiwi breakfast options like Mince on toast, mushrooms and bacon. I had the Big breakie and struggled to get through it. Busy as you'd expect. Definitely come again next time in Palmy

I bring my granny to cafe Jacko for breakfast or lunch reasonably often, and honestly, the staff are always just the nicest bunch - every time I've been in I've been so impressed with how friendly they are. The food and coffee are great, and the atmosphere is really lovely. I love that they take part in kind hearts too where you can pay it forward and buy the next person a coffee. Such a great cafe.

The staff were absolutely on point and delightful. Our food came out remarkably fast and was absolutely scrumptious. My husband and I highly enjoyed it.

I usually love but was dissapointed yesterday . Below average breakfast. Kumers cakes horrible . Asked for everything on side Bacon thats basically boiled placed on top making it soggy. Everything underseasoned. Just no love there.

Delish breakfast. Beautiful hot coffee. Very friendly and personable staff. Lovely environment to relax in.

Service was fantastic but seriously chef would you eat tomatoes with the eye of the stalk left in them? Maybe I would not have minded if there was one but four in my omelette I feel is using the waste cuts that should have been in the scraps bin. Not the best value for money very low quality. The plus however is the staff and overall service makes it worthwhile visiting. I hope my experience is only a one off therefore I will return again in the future.

The service and the food was excellent and service was exemplary and I recommend people to go there.

Polished concrete floors, wooden chairs, rustic decor, fair trade coffee and an efficacious use of the colour yellow make mornings at Cafe Jacko a truely delightful experience. Located in the heart of George St Jacko's is truely an indispensable member of Palmerston Norths cafe scene. Offering a wide selection of food and beverage, the salad cabinet is worth special mention where the health conscious patron may purchase a cardboard takeout box (chinese style - love those!) in one of two sizes filled with a selection of their delicious salads - try the roast vegetable (it's famous). As afore mentioned, the coffee at Jacko's is fair trade, meaning the farmers growing the beans get a fair price for their product and are not exploited like other brands, this provides a truely guilt free experience for the socially conscious consumer. Jacko's coffee is consistently some of the best in town and modestly priced at $3.50 for a long black and if one uses their loyalty card price is reduced to an average of $3.11 a cup with every 9th coffee purchase free making Jacko's coffee one of the most affordable on George. Seating arrangement is good, not too crowded with ample room outside if, like myself, you prefer to enjoy your coffee in the sun. Of note are the friendly professional staff which add to the already vibrant homely atmosphere. I really, really enjoy Cafe Jacko and have no doubt you will too. Five Stars.

Highly recommended, really enjoyed the steak sandwich, perfectly cooked. The chicken sandwich was also very good, the chocolate mud cake delivered with our drinks was a treat.

Always love coming here. It's a nice cafe. Can be quite buzy sometimes but food still comes out really quick. Never regretted coming into this establishment for meals. Good prices and portions. They also have very unique drinks to try and food in the cabinet always looks delish.

Friendly, cheerful and quick service even when they're busy. Food is also delicious. I wish I discovered this cafe sooner! Am now a regular.

I had the morning from hell this morning. It was raining. I was looking for a bus stop around cuba street after the garage I dropped my vehicle off, was too short staffed to give me a lift to town. Shame on you pittstop! No brolly, no raincoat. Thoughtless of me not to organise a lift beforehand.
I stopped to catch my breath and thought... which cafe now?
Jacko's this morning was busy. They had friendly patient staff -given my card declined and I had to fart ass around to transfer monies to get a coffee and breakfast. Great selection but I was stressed and I didnt have the stomach for kippers and eggs benedict.
I settled $14 for two poached eggs on toast, hollandaise mayo on the side and a coffee. The cafe made a great difference in my day! I caught up with the writers workshop at the Palmerston North library at 10,30am and caught the alzheimers awareness day on my way out (last photo) at 12.15pm. Thank you Jackos!

Food: Obviously put effort into the food and it shows. They tweak the meal on request if asked. 2.0/2.5
Service: A cut above your typical café. Sit down with waited table at peak times. Friendly helpful staff all the time. Good amount of room 2.5/2.5

We had brunch eggs bene for both of us, the eggs were cooked nicely and two halves of the muffin under each egg with spinach is a great idea as usually a standard eggs bene is not enough....but this was a filling meal if they had used a nice homemade hollandaise i would have rated the meal a 4.5 but shop brought just does do it for us.

When we lived near this cafe we'd frequent it for breakfast. Something between 2-3 times a week, if not every weekend at least. Our standard order was the EGGS BENNY. Really great value for money, the benny comes out with almost 2 serves for one person. I highly recommend the salmon version, it's pretty good. Also, the BIG breakfast it really filling. Probably the best cure to a hangover.

What's also pretty great is that they'll take phone orders for pick up, and on the rare occasion that I wanted to 'cook' breakfast in bed for my wife they were really great in preparing it for her, so that I could take it away ;-P

The service is always fantastic, you'll probably hear the wait staff or chef singing along to some Lauryn Hill if you're lucky enough.

They've recently renovated, and now it's much bigger. The feel of the cafe has taken on a new vibe but it's still pretty great.

Had lunch on Waitangi Day 2018. It was super busy, but service was very friendly and fast. Tables were being cleared quickly. I had the fishcake, and it was perfect. Not too dry (it came with a side dish of sweet chili sauce, but I didn't need it) and very tasty and well seasoned. It was served with lemon wedges and a mini salad. The coffee was nice and strong, and it was a proper flat white (no thick layer of foam). Just perfect.

I go here quite regularly and it is always good. It's nothing very fancy, but it is consistent and the staff are always nice.

Prices are pretty good. The menu has a decent range, and the cabinet food is good. On several occasions the staff have catered to special requests and been more than happy to do so.

Went to Jackos for the first time with my mother in-law we both absolutely loved the food, service was excellent & the pricing in our eyes was good, I don't eat out a lot cause find places especially cafes to expensive, but will definitely be going back to Jackos

Have only had takeaway coffees at Jackos, but all have been SUPERB!

Hopefully get the chance to pop in, relax and sample the brunch menu :)

We used to come once a week on a Saturday and there was hardly anyone else in the cafe, we loved the service and food but lately it has gone downhill; it has become more popular on weekends and there are usually few tables available that have dirty dishes left on them. The counter food is actually overpriced and then they upsell by asking if you want fries or salad (as though it is part of your cabinet item) and charge another $4.50 on top. The drinks come ages after ordering, then once you finish those and wait another 5mins the food eventually comes. While everything is tasty and presentable I am starting to rethink this place. I'm just not into busy cafes and waiting forever and being overcharged. Bring back the old days.....

Went here in May and it took nearly 20 minutes for two coffees. Went up to the counter and they said we were next. Then I saw them serving other people.
Went up and asked for my money back and with no apology, was given my money.
Really crappy service for a really crappy place.
Had been once before this experience and will not be going back again.
Should rename Cafe Crappo

We used to love the place but recently had a horrible experience! After sending back our coffees with burnt milk the next two that came out were even worse! The coffee was that hot that I ended up scalding my tongue and dropping the cup! After 3 days I still can still feel the burn when drinking a hot drink. Then when I went to complain I was met with a defensive and very hostile response from the waitress. Yes our money was refunded but I was fobbed off with a card with the number of the owner Jacko. I left a message on his mobile to call me - yes you guessed it, he has still never bothered to call me back! What a disappointing experience after many years of supporting this place.

Best coffee in Palmerston North!

Haven't tried the menu. Counter food is nice but a little bit overpriced.

Jacko's is my favourite cafe in Palmerston North. The ambience is mellow, the service friendly and efficent and the food is a notch above it's competitors.

Thoroughly recommend it to my fellow tea-lovers, those hunting a decent cup of coffee and those who love simple meals done well. I particularly recommend trying one of the all day items from the blackboard menu. My favourites are the pasta and the big breakfast.

Jacko's is pretty popular with the locals and attracts a range of people. It's a comfortable kind of place.
Jayne
Excellent coffee, quick service even when busy, great hotcakes, friendly staff.
