Review Bethanys - Palmerston North

Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. We had egg Benedicts which were divine. The upstairs sitting area overlooking the square has beautiful views.

Went here on a Wednesday for an end of year work function. Since work was paying, I can't comment on the prices. My meal was exactly as I requested which was nice, and it was cooked perfectly. The steak was very nice, and I really enjoyed the starters. There was a good selection of drinks, and the service was to a good standard - our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating to our diverse group. Would recommend

Great food and service tonight. The garlic bread was yummy and the lamb rump was cooked to perfection. My friend had the pasta and loved it as well. The only downside was the cheese on the wedges being over cooked. Will definitely be returning though.

We are visitors to Palmy n recommended to Bethanys. We checked them out online and very pleased we experienced their hospitality n cuisine. I ordered the special outlined online n received 30% discount. Their desserts, wines n waitstaff all superb. A gorgeous evening allowed us to sit outside...what more could one want. If looking for somewhere for lunch or dinner...do try Bethanys!

We were upstairs with lovely view of the Clock Tower at night. Had very nice platter of Breads and dips to share. The Beef burgers were very substantial and very tasty. No lighting turned on in the stairway on the way down at 9pm. A bit tricky. Enjoyable meal and location. Will be back.

We had an overseas party from China, so navigating a European menu was made easier by helpful staff. Although not on the al la cart menu but Xmas menu they were curious about this ham thing. Well the staff were very obliging and gave our visitors a taste. They were very impressed. The meals came out in reasonable time and well presented and tasty . We had a very successful and enjoyable evening.

Went with a group for lunch - it was a nice surprise to discover their upstairs space which had a nice view out over the Square. I ordered the vegan salad even though I'm not a vegan - wanted something healthy and interesting. And the gamble paid off - it was a generous serving and not all salad leaves like some places put up. Roasted nuts, artichokes! Very satisfied and recommended.

Good service, nice food. They were very accommodating of our two young children which was nice. I really enjoyed my meal, my only complaint would be a lack of craft beers, but that's a pretty small quibble. Thanks!

Been many times, pretty good food and coffee, nothing special but they do have nice outdoor seating when the weather allows. Staff are consistently friendly. It's a lot quieter than other places nearby so a good place to chat and catch up with friends etc. One of my favourite places in Palmy just because they do what the do well.

Bethany's Restaurant is consistently the best restaurant I go to in Palmerston North. The most acute test of this confidence occurred when I used it for my parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary function. The demand for a high standard of presentation, quality of food and service were acute as there were several guests from Auckland to Wellington well used to fine dining. The wow factor was not expected but it was achieved with all guests. The food and serve at Bethany's has never disappointed me. It is an excellent Restaurant.

9/11/13 My husband and I had a really superb dinner at Bethany's tonight. The food was very good, the service was both professional and attentive. The portions were well sized and the price was just right. Ooooh and that apple rice pudding was just magnificent!!!! We had a great time and left feeling staisfied as well as feeling that we really got value for money. Thanks to all the staff that made our evening really great.

Love our meal, super speedy with getting it cooked! The staff were very friendly and welcoming! Best banana smoothies in town also! Will be back plenty more times!

Our family walked in without a booking having stumbled across bethanys and were welcomed warmly. Each of the 3 courses were delicious. The kitchen happily swapped out the ice cream for sorbet in the kids donut dessert as my daughter can't do dairy... also they do not gauge on the alcohol prices... very drinkable bottle of red wine for $29. Overall, great family meal out and if in palmerston north with family looking for great food check bethanys out.

Bethanys is the place I just keep coming back to in Palmy. The food and coffee has always been great, the service better than average. The Garlic bread is hard to pass up. Lunch from the menu or the cabinet is delicious, and dinner has never failed to be delicious.

The big breakfast was amazing – food & presentation was on point. Customer service was also amazing! Highly recommend this cafe because it’s a 11/10 from me 👌🏼

Had a quick snack here today - wedges with sweet chilli sauce & sour cream with a corona - friend had a flat white & chocolate chip cookie. Lovely space to sit outside in the sun(you can move the tables round) it’s in a Great location. Staff were nice. Service a bit slow but was advised was busier than I usual today. Def Visit if in palmy.

My group of 4 visited Bethany's when we're on our roadtrip to wellington. Bethany's served western food (obviously).<br/>The food was good, taste good and the service was good as well.<br/>The place easy to find, as they near the main street in palmerston north.

Best meal for the year eaten at any restaurants in New Zealand. The entree of prawns was delightful and tasty....the Angus beef fillet done to perfection. <br/>Best ever...well done

I stopped in here for a wine after a meeting in Palmy. So I can't say much about the food. The wine was good, and the location beautiful. I enjoyed sitting back and watching people relaxing and enjoying the Square rather than just rushing around thinking they'll miss out on something insignificant. Service is so friendly. The waitress offered to call me a taxi when she realised I was from out of town. And when I lost my phone someone had handed it in. When I came in to claim she knew who it belonged to. Nice to see there's some honest people in Palmerston North.

There dinner foods are amazing but brunch meals not so much, good prices, excellent customer service, have been here on multiple occasions and had celebrated two birthdays here each time has been amazing

Great coffee, always enjoy my flat white. The service is wonderful, the location is nice and the prices are fair. I have only ever been for lunch but have never been disappointed.

Sunday morning family brunch and we headed to Bethany's. One thing to note, of the five of us, there were two gluten free, one vegetarian and a wee dog.<br/><br/>Have to give big props to the service. The lovely waitress asked if we needed water for the dog and she was really attentive asking all the right questions at the right times (based on hospo training).<br/><br/>There was a slight muck up with my coffee but they rectified it and the coffee was quite nice.<br/><br/>The food was good. They didn't mind substituting which was appreciated. Nicely presented and freat value for money too.<br/><br/>Ambience was good with music playing in the background and it helped that the sun was out. <br/><br/>Overall, well done Bethany's.

Came here for my brother's graduation dinner with a bunch of his classmates and their family and friends. As you would've guessed, it was real busy in there. <br/><br/>We only had a few to choose from as we were a big group due to it being a grad dinner. Not gonna lie, took a while for our dishes to arrive but I don't blame them seeing how many people there were to serve from our table as well as their other regular customers. <br/><br/>It was well worth the wait for some. The chicken breast dish was very good. Chicken was not dry and flavours were good. The pumpkin pasta I ordered was ok.... Came with bread which was weird(?) cos by the time I had finished eating it, my pasta had gone slightly cold. <br/><br/>But would definitely come back to try their full menu.

Went back to Bethany's for dinner with another of my friends. Was awesome! The guy that served us was great too. Love Bethany's!!!!

I would class myself as a regular diner at Bethanys. Of all the restaurants in Palmy, this is one of two that we just keep coming back to (and the owner here is the exec chef or somesuch at the other as well!)<br/>The food has always been excellent, the staff on the ball, and atmosphere is as good as anywhere else.<br/>The chicken salad is a favourite for lunch, and the pork belly for dinner, but virtually everything I've tried has been very done. The cheesy garlic bread is almost always our starter for dinner, though it does usually mean we don't have space for dessert, so sometimes it has to get a miss.<br/>The coffee is good, and if I have to meet a rep for work I always try to get them to meet me here (free coffee/lunch FTW) and they've always made good comments too.

We dinned in for lunch. Initially we were seated in an odd corner that was cold, and had the feeling of sitting in the hallway adjacent. Fortunately another staff member offered us a much nicer table in the centre. Our second table was set and nicely presented, unlike the first.<br/><br/>I had the steak. I asked for medium-rare, however it was slightly over medium. The dressing on the salad was.. bland. And the hollandaise was unique. Nothing to rave about.<br/><br/>Another member of our table had Bethany's Hot Pot, a chefs special that changes on the day. Today it was Beef and Mushroom. They really enjoyed it and said they would definitely have it again!<br/><br/>From reading the reviews on here i was expecting a much higher quality experience. Maybe i need to come back for Dinner.

Best restaurant to date...fab service - friendly staff - fabulous food, had entree, main and dessert and boy couldnt eat all the dessert. Dined with another and we both had different choices and everything was made to perfection, priced reasonably ok but verging on expensive side however would highly recommend this place. We'll be back....

Have eaten here several times including New Year's Eve,always very nice and great service.would recommend.

I have dined at Bethany's on several occasions. <br/>Each time I was very impressed.<br/>The waiting staff are attentive but unobtrusive. <br/>The restaurant with it park like surroundings make it a pleasant and peaceful place to dine.<br/>The food - is delicious (and that is an understatement !). <br/>It is always presented in a very appealing way and the staff always ask if everything is O.K.<br/>I personally recommend it and will continue to dine there.

we dined at bethany's a while ago now but thought it deserved our review. four of us dined there that night, with everyone having an array of different mains but all having the scallops for starters. we were all very impressed and enjoyed our meals thoroughly. we live in the hawkes bay but would surely stop in to dine at bethany's again. we will be back :-)

Quite nice food, but limited vegetarian options.<br/>Hopeless to try and book though. They don't answer their emails and if you try to phone you have to leave a message. Not impressed.

Bethany's is a nice place. It's classy without being too stuffy, it has well-sized meals and is reasonably priced, if not veering into the expensive category. The savoury pancake they do for brunch, with either bacon or salmon, is packed with caramelised onions, avocado and cheese and covered in hollandaise. It's awesome. <br/><br/>A group of us went there recently for a friend's birthday dinner. We started with platters and breads, which were all quite nice. The bread came with and without cheese and was drenched in oil. It was a bit greasy but tasted good. The platters had meat skewers covered in dukkah (bit dry but tasted ok), prawn skewers, ham, salami, salmon, a weirdly large amount of mescalin leaves (seemed pointless), fried crumbed fish, fish cakes, sun dried tomatoes, olives, feta and bread. The mussels were the only unappealing item on the platter. I didn't taste one but three people near me said they were slimy and "disgusting". <br/><br/>I ordered the pork belly for my main. It was a big chunk of meat and for the most part pretty tasty. It sat on a mash, which was more like crushed potatoes but tasty nevertheless, and had two battered onion rings. Some parts of the pork were a little bit tough to be honest, though I may have been a bit more critical as I had recently eaten the sticky, tender belly at Bellas.<br/><br/>My girlfriend had the salmon, which she enjoyed. The only downside was the tomato sauce with the dish was a little overpowering, she thought. <br/><br/>We ate too much to have dessert but it was a good night complete with great service and a pleasant atmosphere. I'll definitely go back.

I love Bethany's! The service is good, the coffee is good and the food is excellent. I pretty much order the same thing every time I'm there. Chicken and mushroom filo, with salad. The filo is divine and the salad is great. Not just a few leaves, but a proper dressed salad. The sweets in the cabinet are always tempting too.

I really enjoyed the meal. Had the seafood pasta and it was perfect size and priced perfectly. My partner had the eggs Benedict which he to loved! <br/>The service wasn't great though and the food is what made it better. Felt like they had forgotten about us and waitresses spent a lot of time chatting to each other rather than noticing when customers needed something. So, customer service could be improved. Improved!! However good food, good portions, reasonable prices and lovely atmosphere! Worth checking out!!

Firstly, I'd rate Bethany's 'very good' as a restaurant, and 'average' as a cafe. We've been to Bethany's a number of times and have really enjoyed their food and service. My larger family went there this morning, kids included, as its location on the square is a great place for the kids to spread out into and explore (with a few obliging dad's!). That said, we'd love to see an improvement on their coffee making skills, 3 of us chose not to drink our coffee, my mocka was way too sweet and the other 2 coffees were just not good (two coffee lovers, so they're fairly picky!). We've found the coffee pretty average in the past also. Also recommend upstairs in preference to downstairs as the kitchen noise made it difficult to hear conversation. Would still recommend Bethany's for a nice dining experience, and would hope these comments are taken constructively!

Good location, ordered the fish and chip meal, was very happy. The service is friendly and very quick, had our main course within 15 minutes. We had our mains upstairs which was nice overlooking the square but was very hot and stuffy on a summers day. Were very satisfied after a filling main course. We were happy to top it off with a delicious dessert. Overall, this has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Palmeston North.

Had dinner at Bethany's last week. A fairly good (though not great) steak with tasty vegies, followed by the best rice pudding ever.<br/><br/>Service was attentive without being over-bearing, and atmosphere better than many. <br/><br/>Wine was reasonably priced, and overall the meal was very good value for money. I'll be back

I bought a deal voucher for Bethany's off the net - we had lunch there 2 weeks ago - absolutely fantastic - the salmon savoury pancake was the best I have ever had &amp; my daughter had the chicken salad sandwich which she loved - excellent service &amp; cant wait to go back.

okay, not as flash as they try to portray. It was not very impressive having to walk up a concrete stair case that should only be used as an emergency exit. Lighting was far too bright

Our meal at bethany's was a totally excellent experience which I look forward to repeating the next time we are in Palmy. So often when dining the food fall short of the anticipated standard but not at Bethany's. A very busy evening ment a longer than usual wait for our meal but the waiter did come over and apologise and let us know our meals would not be long. I really wanted the twice cooked belly of pork but as the person I was dining with ordered it I decided to go for something else. A bit dubiously I ordered the beef fillet ( I have often been disappointed with steaks so was slightly reluctant). I was not disappointed, it was cooked to perfection, tender and mouthwatering and my friends meal was equally as wonderful with a delicate flavour that had us guessing. My dessert ( Lemon curd Creme brulee) was so devine I just did not want it to end,I was tempted to lick the bowl clean but controlled myself! The staff were friendly and efficient. Well done Bethany's , Keep up the high standards and you wont go wrong. I look forward to coming back

went there for breakfast the other week, was greeted<br/>straight away and shown a table, the staff were friendly and professional. The food didn't take<br/>long to arrive and was presented really well, I had the savory pancake and it was honestly one of the best meals I've had in palmerston, and we've pretty much been everywhere!! will be going there for weekend breakfasts from now on, no where else compares!!
