Review Cafe Royale - Palmerston North

Reece Benson
Dropped in here with a few friends and family on Christmas Eve, and as we’d already had a large hotel breakfast, the rest of the table enjoyed an array of food that looked appealing, and met their approval. The coffees were well made, and the service was very warm and friendly. I couldn’t resist a large date and orange scone, which when heated and topped with butter, was bloody awesome! Great job team and keep up the good work!

A very enjoyable stop for lunch on our way through Palmerston North. The menu options were fantastic and having a ‘plants only’ vegan menu was incredible to find. The staff were very helpful, friendly and diligent and the food was excellent quality - One going to the top of our NZ Vegan lunches out. PS : Thank you to the very kind lady who not only helped us on our way but also praised the place so highly too. 🙏

Sweet little cafe with 2 amazing staff, the guy who was making the coffees was hilarious and the lady mostly doing tills was wonderful too, they made the experience great. This place also has some interesting coffees and drinks that you wouldn't find many other places like a dirty ginger latte which I had, it was surprisingly gingery- genuine stuff not just a syrup it tasted like. My friends first time having coffee and she loved it. 10/10 recommend

So many tasty vegan (and non-vegan) options! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Coffee was delicious (and I really appreciated that the different alternative milks had different costs instead of making them all the same!) Really appreciated the progressive vibe! Such a relaxing atmosphere, with great music playing, interesting magazines to thumb through, and cool art to gaze at while you eat/drink. The little area the cafe is located in is super cool too, tucked away near the center for sustainable living and an art gallery. Highly recommend this place!! You can also find free 120 min parking on Linton Street :)

Great range of food available, and in a quaint and cosy location next to a small art gallery with interesting pieces to be viewed. An entire vegan menu is available including vegan friendly beverages (cold and hot). Would recommend to any visitors of Palmerston North looking for a good meal!

We arrived at 3 & even tho the kitchen was closed, as they close at 4pm the food in the display was still available, I had a delicious Curry bean & spinach filo pastry, with a avocado matcha smoothie, my sister had a zucchini, kumara & cheese quiche, with a coconut mango smoothie, & we shared a small salad, it was quick service & the server was very friendly & welcoming, there was no rush for us to leave either, & we took our time. I would try it again, & recommend it

I found out about Cafe Royale whilst browsing a very helpful website called VeganPalmy. This is a cute little cafe tucked in a cosy gallery. They had an entire vegan menu. If I were staying in Palmerston North for longer I had frequented this place. Friendly staff, lots of menu items and cabinet items. The banana blossom 'fish' and chips was a delicious meal for lunch. The chips were perfect, the banana blossom 'fish' was really nice and interesting to try. The side salad was actually amazing. You made the stop at Palmy very rewarding. Thanks so much.

If you are looking for nice flavor, good quality breakfast this is the place! high recommend the Smash Avo and the Eggs Bene. I don't give you 5 stars because the coffee could be better.

Delicious food, excellent service! Wasn’t too busy when we went so food came out fast. Has a vegan menu as well, so the two vegans in our party were very happy!

Cafe Royale is one of those cafes that is great for vegetarian and non vegetarian diners. Their amazing homemade food is complimented with a high quality coffee and range of teas. It was great to see a high level friendly and competent service. Highly recommended.

Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. You could tell quality ingredients are used to produce dishes that are simply delightful. The café also offers a wonderful drink menu, and they offer some of the best wines & beers. The drinks are pricey but surely worth sampling. Do try their sour bread and soup, outstanding flavours. The slices and cake menu looked yummy also, wanted to try them all! we had the apricot slice with cream, was very delicious. I’d love to visit again. I'd recommend it as a nice place to go with friends, family, or a partner.

My favourite cafe in Palmy! Coffee is always excellent, vegan selection is amazing and never fails to please. I come here 2 - 3 times a week, and have never been disappointed. The mushroom hash is my go to, I love it.

Such a delight to find this place! We flew into Palmerston North and I’m thrilled that I did some research on vegan food in Palmerston North before we landed. We went for breakfast and I was so excited and blown away to see the huge vegan menu full of amazing sounding options, as well as many vegan options in the counter. Everything looked and sounded delicious - I honestly wanted to order one of everything!

I decided on the hash stack with added vegan sausages, which was amazing, lacking seasoning though for this salt lover - probably would be spot on for people who aren’t such salt lovers. Aside from that it was perfection and absolutely gorgeously plated. I got a ginger slice as well which I was too full to eat there and ate at the end of the day, it was yummy but rather sweet for me - I am not a sweet tooth at all though and that’s probably why.

My daughter got the big vegan breakfast which she loved as well as an apricot oat slice which she also enjoyed, but found the apricot too sweet - she’s also not a sweet tooth though. The other two we were with loved their meals.

I’ll certainly be going back if I find myself in the area again - which I may have to make happen because I want to work my way through that amazing looking vegan menu. The guy who served us was wonderful and friendly as well. The entire experience made my heart happy!

Food super tasty! Heaps of options for vegans, when I was in Palmy I went here twice within 24 hours. Pictured are the roast veg pizza with vegan cheese and the jackfruit burger.

A lovely atmosphere-light, relatively quiet and not crowded so able to have a good conversation. The food looked great in the cabinet, but my son, daughter and myself ordered the roast vege salad and it came out smelling like compost and tasting fermented. I asked for mine cold but the top bits had definitely been heated. None of us could finish our salads before diarrheoa started. My son and daughter had to forfeit their prepaid bus fares and travel back to Wellington in private cars so they could stop at all the toilets along the way . We mentioned this to the chef, and he vowed it was made fresh that morning. no offer of $recompense.

Having a nut allergy, I questioned the waitress whether there were nuts in the veg stack - I was told NO. So I ordered this and one mouthful in realised there were most definitely nuts in this meal. I promptly went back to the counter where the waitress and another staff member were still fairly adamant that it was nut-free until she went and checked with the kitchen and on her return I was informed the pesto was made with cashews. I was given my $8.50 back, however the other family members had to finish their meals quickly. This cafe needs to realise allergies to some people mean an injection of a $130+ epipen and a trip to the hospital - if you aren't sure say you aren't sure or have all ingredients listed.

Relaxed and quiet atsmophere so at least ou can have a chat with friends, not like in other cafes where the music is too loud or the noise is too much. The food is pretty good and the menu different than in a lot of cafes. Good vegan and gluten-free options. Good prices and choice of craft beers.Coffee is good and the latte and flat white are different which we found in other cafes can taste and look the same.

I was very impressed with Cafe Royale. The food is so well priced! They have a fantastic vegetarian/vegan menu which was why I chose to go there. I had the veg burger which had a spiced lentil patty and homemade bun - it was so so good! I got 2 meals, 2 iced coffees and a side of fries for less that $40 which I think is a really good price for the quality and selection of food. Will definitely be returning!

First time here. Food isn't bad here. Customer service is good. Ordered the salmon eggs benedict. And so did one of my friends. The poached eggs were quite inconsistent. His one was more runny/raw than mine -mine were perfect. Their chicken dish was good too.

One thing that surprised me was the way they presented their matcha latte which I ordered. Not a real big deal but the latte art was just a splotch of white foam in the middle. Their cappuccinos weren't presented this way so why slack on the lattes?? It was quite foamy but just glad it was actually matcha not something random like some cafes have done that I've been to in the past.

Yum yum yum. The best vege pie ever, and I am told the beef pies are also delicious. Lovely salad and coffee. Very pleasant setting. Loads of art to look at while enjoying the hospitality.

Cafe Royale always serves fresh, tasty and healthy food with creativity. Coffee is always well made and the selection of beers complements the menu well. Can call in for a coffee and snack or a full meal - and always be well pleased. Good options for kids too. Cafe Royale offers better quality than so many other local food outlets. It's worth seeking out and going back to many times.

My new favourite cafe! As soon as we laid eyes on the vege pies we knew that is what we were gonna be eating and they did not disappoint - the best vege pies on the planet! (I even took a picture) Just about licked the plate. Everything was fresh and delicious and stylish. Can't wait to go back and try something sweet. Coffee is fab, excellent service. The best!

Popped in last weekend to check out these guys' latest spot. I used to live in Glasgow when these kiwis set up their award winning cafe/roastery/bakery over there. And I'm stoked to say there have definitely replicated their high standards, excellent coffee, to-die-for home baked bread and above all, their focus on top quality and where possible, local ingredients - awesome!
And if their track record is anything to go by, it will be CONSISTENTLY good which is a rare thing these days! Nice one. Go there now.

First time here was a little hard to find. The service was very good and everyone had a smile on their face. Great coffee and a good selection of vegetarian food on the menu. The relish on the plate was also very nice touch with my pie. The soup was delicious as well. Will be back!!!
