Review Namaste Bharat Authentic Indian Cuisine - Palmerston North

Aurora Zero
This has to be THE BEST Indian restaurant in NZ. You can tell when the person cooking the food is putting their heart into the food. They are also interesting food! So fragrant with mysterious spices. The owner is also very thoughtful and kind. Such a lovely restaurant ❤️ Palmy is a hidden gem!

This spot is our favourite in Palmy! The food is exceptional and the service is personal, prompt and polite. The atmosphere is genuine and pleasant. As a family owned business it has a great personal touch. Great value for money and can be scaled easily for a nice dinner for two or a large group outing. Centrally located to be able to walk to anything downtown after. Recommend you try it.

Had a great time, great atmosphere, great food, great service, great variety in the menu and a great experience. Chef came out to greet us and give us an invite to the goings on in the kitchen witch made it that much more impressive. Highly recommend 👌

Went there today with Family while driving back to HB. Food was amazing and service was good too. Just 1 thing took me, we ask the staff rest to take away and when I pay I saw there was $1 takeaway and then again $1 Takeway was charged twice ,so I ask a question why $2 extra charge.? Staff replied was for a bag but was really a thin small bag and $1 for that.??🤯 ok accepted then what that other $ I got charged .? Never explained me that and I really do not mind paying a $ but atleast on a valid reason. Feels like just snitching money from tourists....strongly recommend to check your bill before you pay.😊

We went there for my birthday dinner, and I have to say, I was not disappointed at all. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD good. I had the Lamb Shank - it takes some time to prepare, but every minute is worth the wait! It was amazing. We also had chicken korma and some garlic naan. Every single dish was amazing! Even my 7 year-old loved it! Not to mention the very friendly guy who served us! I am so sorry I didn't take his name because his friendly attitude and smile makes the experience even better! Highly recommend this place!

I’ve ordered takeout a number of times before my review. I’ve consistently had delicious curry with rice. This place is good value for money and good Indian food, would recommend

Lovely place with amazing food. I had the chicken tikka entree and beef vindaloo main, both medium heat but mighty tasty. Happy friendly staff , and a great atmosphere. Thank you for a beautiful meal and a good night out.

New management have done a great job at keeping what made this place so good. The food has always been good but now it's even better. The bread is next level. 😁👍

Friendly and fast service with good size servings. The meal was nice and filling. The restaurant was clean and tidy. Will come back next time I want a decent Indian meal when in a hurry.
In my opinion, best curry in Palmy. Not sure why this site has a minimum letter count for their reviews. Pretty annoying if you ask me. Nothing annoying about Royal Garden though, just great food.

Our family restaurant when in Palmy .STAFF. Always friendly and helpful. Always ensures our food is to our liking once served, Happy to accommodate our fussy needs.. AMBIENCE is casual, DECOR is lovely. ( I don't like the t.v in a restaurant idea) The front doors are on a sensor which causes them to open and close a lot. Distracting and not so nice..FOOD.. My partner orders his Curries indian hot mine Euro med. Every curry we have tried has been perfectly prepared and are delicious. We never visit Palmy without coming here many times.

Great food. Really great food. Best Indian food I have had in 20 years. Ask for hot food, the mild is too mild for me. If you love Indian food you will love the food here. I will be back.

Great staff, good service but I just really HATE the food, tried them twice but I think they meant it to be sort of a "fusion cooking" targeted at a more Western taste..works well tho, but not for me--faaaaar from authentic!

New Year's Eve after walking out on another place. Seated promptly, order taken after 5 Min's, waiter dressed in white shirt and waist coat and black pants very friendly and professional. Entree of Fried Panner was great. Mains OK but not a huge amount of flavors. Over all very nice.

First time dining after once having takeaways. Lovely clean tidy restaurant. Friendly staff, great service, the meal was devine. Would have to be the best Indian restaurant in Palmerston North. Would we return again, yes most definitely. Thanks very much.

Was stuck at home and not in the mood for cooking so looking up MENUMANIA (Awesome online search and dining info) I knew I felt like an Indian Meal, so had to find one that did a delivery. Some online places said they did but when I called they no longer do it until I called this place!

Upon calling them they had an awesome telephone manner, I asked if able to deliver and was advised they were - Ordered the following - Veg Pakora Entree and Butter chicken with complimentary Rice. This was delivered in a timely manner with friendly door service. The food was nice and hot, and the dishes were delicious. Really made my day as its really hard to find a good Indian meal to your liking!

I am now keen to return to this place and dine in for lunch/dinner at some stage!

Many thanks! I will be back...

We enjoyed a really nice meal. I booked online with a request for an extra chair so a diner with a broken leg could elevate it and this request was met. At the end of our meal we asked for a 'doggy bag' which was fulfilled. The next day I reheated this and was surprised to see they had included more rice, which was a really nice extra. We felt this was a good value and enjoyable night out.

Very friendly welcome. Great food. This was our second visit, will definitely be going again. This is the closest we have had to a UK Indian! Good portion sizes and always the option to take a 'doggy bag' home.

Have only had takeaways from here, but in my opinion this is the best curry in town! We won't go anywhere else for curry in Palmerston North after we stumbled upon this. The garlic naan is amazing, always soft, fluffly and hot but never burned as is the case at many other places. The chicken Saag is my personal favourite, so tasty and great amount of spice.

The service was really good, super friendly staff!
We had mild butter chicken. You get a good sized serving and it has a lot of meat. However I found it slightly too sweet for me. I had a mild butter chicken... I usually get mild or medium butter chicken but this one was just too sweet. Which makes me not want to go back. However it is still the better of the bunch when it comes to wanting a sit down Indian dinner rather than takeaway. Also found the restaurant to be nicely decorated.

Excellent staff though, have to commend you on that!

Best Indian I have eaten at this price, $10 lunch deals, kiwi hot butter chicken is amazing. I work across the road from the restaurant, service is very friendly and efficient, and contrary to John's belief below, my rating is definitely independent and the plaza Indian is disgusting and not authentic at all by comparison.

I have enjoyed 8 or 9 lunches at the Royal Garden since it came under its present management. The lunches are reasonably priced (the same price as the foodcourt curries in town) yet the quality is much higher. I recommend the palak paneer especially.

My only gripe is the lunchtime menu stays the same and I've eaten my way through it. The odd new lunch time option would be great.

Food comes out in a reasonable time. The serving size is filling without being too much. The rice is always fluffy, and the naans are tasty as.

Staff are also pleasant.

We have had Star of India a number of times and were always satisfied with it, so when I heard they had opened a Restaurant, I knew where I would be dining on my birthday!

Absolutely fantastic food! Among the best Indian I've ever had, rivaled only by themselves. I ordered a Hot Korma. There was a lovely amount of spice, enough to make it hot, but not so overpowering that I couldn't taste the flavor. It was lovely and creamy! We had prompt service, complimentary poppadums.
Very reasonably priced, especially compared to some of the other Indian Restaurants in Palmerston North. I would recommend this place to everyone I know, I cannot recommend it enough and quite frankly cannot wait to go back!

Just had a delicious meal there - the food was so yum (very fresh and quick) and the service and surroundings great - will be definitely going back there again. We had the butter chicken curry and the vegetarian paneer with onion barges and narn bread along with some wines - Fantastic!!!!!

I had dined here quite a while back and wasn't very impressed and found the restaurant quite cold.

However... Went here on Tuesday night with my friend, after i heard it was under new management. It was fantastic!!! It was still a little bit cold, but it has now been carpeted which maintains some of the heat...

We had the banquet for 2, it was HUGE! could easily have fed 3 or 4!

The Vege Samosas are huge and very very tasty!!

Vege Korma was nice and creamy as was the mango chicken, lamb roganjosh was tasty also.

Naan breads were delicious and NOT burnt - which is what i find with alot of the other indian restaurants so a big thumbs up there!!

Mango Lassi's are also to die for! YUM! Have also had the lunch time menu for $10 and that was pretty big too!! Will definitely be back!!

Royal Garden or Star of India is my first port of call for Indian food.
It is full of flavour and I find the medium vindaloo is just the right amount of heat for me.
I've only tried a few items from the menu so far but i intend on fixing that one meal at a time.
James Pettengill
I popped in for a $10 lunch recently, ordered the lamb vindaloo which was well cooked, well seasoned. More importantly the rice was freshly cooked and cooked perfectly. The Indian tea I enjoyed was also very nice. The wait was no longer that 5 minutes, so I will most likely visit again to try another dish.

Being Indian, we don't often go out to Indian restaurants, as we are always disappointed with the quality of the food served. But we were pleasantly surprised when we tried Royal Garden Indian restaurant. The food tasted authentic, the spices were fresh, the dish was not simply filled with a greasy, cream sauce with a few pieces of meat or paneer garnishing it. My husband had a chicken tikka and I had a mattar paneer and both were delicious. There was a large bowl of basmati rice accompanying the meal, and the rice was enough for both of us. We also ordered naan, and requested it not to be covered in oil-and this was also made perfectly. The food was reasonably priced and the serves were quite large. Decor was nice, and the place looked clean and bright. The only negative comment would be the TV with the music videos, which was sometimes quite loud and other times lacked sound altogether-it might be better not to have it at all. This is the only Indian restaurant that I would be happy to recommend in Palmerston North.

Tonight we went to the Royal Garden Indian Restaurant and had a spectacular meal. I'm a regular customer of the Star of India and was very excited to hear they had taken over this restaurant.

We started with the "platter for 2" entree which was superb! When the mains arrived they looked great and tasted divine! In our opinion, this is the best Indian around and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Under new ownership the restaurant has been decorated beautifully and the service was top notch. The staff deserve a big thank you for being so friendly and attentive.

My partner and I were not impressed when we went in February. But the new owners did definitely a good job. The place is nicely refurbished, the staff is extremely nice. We went tonight and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was very tasty. We got exactly what we ordered with just the right amount of spice. My partner had the goan chicken masala and loved it. So meaty. I had the prawns vindaloo and it was full of prawns like I wanted. It's going to be hard to choose between this place and star of India now! Definitely worth the try! Well done!
