Review Angkor Restaurant - Palmerston North

Lovely meal and staff. Came in earlier than our booking, it was no worries.

Shared a lovely evening meal here with my wife, prices were very affordable and atmosphere was warm and inviting. Food was tasty and generous. Staff were friendly and accommodating

We normally go with a big group of people for dinner and have the banquet it’s always fresh with plenty left over. The staff are lovely worth a visit for sure and you can BYO wine.

Can't fault the food. Very nice indeed. My only gripe is the receipt. It listed the items my family had but no total. Noticed we were charged twice for the 4 drinks. Got a refund but then the next day when I checked the receipt, I found out we were overcharged $21 even after the refund. Didn't bother going back for refund partly because they are a small family business. Hence only 4 stars. Will certainly check next time before I leave the restaurant. Yes I will be back.

Food was absolutely outstanding but service was totally appalling

Food is always good but we were left in a corner for quite some time before someone came to take our order, we had to wave at the waiter to attract attention. I realise that getting food out to the customers is important but the wait to order is frustrating for those waiting to do so, or to order another glass of wine or dessert.

The food is always well presented, delicious, and reasonably priced.

Had a lovely meal and an enjoyable time with celebrant friends. Good food, good company, great service.

Great food! That chicken corn soup was the best of the kind! Sweet and sour dish was definitely top quality and nothing like just ordinary take away shop stuff. Thanks!

Absolutely beautiful food. Pleasant staff. Loved it.

Lovely food. Service a bit lackadaisical - finally went to the bar to get a drink. Would recommend overall though.

Always love coming here. The food is always amazing. The staff are incredible, so friendly and helpful. I really recommend everyone try Angkor Resturant. My favorite is the Lemon Grass Beef, it is amazing. Thank you so much Angkor for making my wife's and my wedding anniversary so special.

A small and delightful restaurant that remains a firm favourite due to its consistently great food at a reasonable price. Their green curry is devine.

Angkor has much to offer - Wonderful, fast & delicious food, lovely friendly kind owners and service, a real find with many options available (some good some not so) - I took leftovers for the next day - equally delicious then -loved the rice paper rolls and delicious ginger rice - my relative devoured several delicious dishes I can’t remember but will try next time - a full restaurant is a good sign - hard to get great tasting vegetarian food when you’re travelling. A great start to a difficult journey, kind people to help take the edge off and and a full happy tummy. 4.5 ⭐️ if that were an option. Thanks for a lovely 😊 inexpensive and delicious dinner. I will be back, a secret (or not so secret!) special find in Palmy! 🙏🌟 🥰

Really lovely service here. For entree I had they satay chicken. It was disapointing, the chicken was cooked well, however the sauce lacked flavour and did not have much of a peanuty taste. For main I ordered the prawn laksa, it was absolutely incredible , there were heaps of prawns and the flavours blew me away, it was massive and enough to take for lunch the next day. The prices were really reasonable too. I will totally come back here next time I'm in Palmy

Great food, great service what more can be said? The service guy was professional and helpful. If more restaurants were as good as this, well I'd have nothing to moan about, and that would be new.

Fabulous service and great food!
We have been to Angkor twice in the last 3 months once with a large group and once as a couple. Excellent service both times and exceptional food.
This is our 'new favorite' restaurant.
Very knowledgeable and patient staff as there are so many yummy choices on the menu! Highly recommend Plum Pork and the Chilli Chicken. Can't wait to go back next week!

The nicest food you could eat!
From food to service was wonderful, the salt and pepper squid as an entrée is fresh and delicious.
I myself like the sweet and sour pork, green seafood curry with a side of rice.
Perfect with a glass of raspberry lemonade.

I don't much to say it was all so wonderful.
One of the nicest Asian restaurants I've been to.

This is the first time I have walked out of a restaurant! We arrived at 7.50 pm, having previously booked. My friend is a diabetic and was in need of some food, so asked how long it would be till we were served. The waitress said if we ordered entrees it would be 20-25 mins, so we sat down. She also said there was a large group ahead of us, so the mains would be "a while." The entrees arrived at 8.45 pm, (nearly an hour after we arrived) but we said nothing. At 9.15 we asked a waiter how long our meals were going to be and he said they would be cooking ours next! (We noticed they were still bringing meals out to the large group). We said that we weren't happy about that and he replied that there was only one cook. Then the waitress came, and instead of being placating, she argued with us. She told us that they had they had to serve the group first as they were ahead of us; that she had told us there would be a wait; that they weren't a fast food place; that they had plenty of customers that were happy with the service and that if we didn't like it we could leave. We decided to leave, put the money for the entrees on the table and left. The street door to the kitchen was open and the chef was there and my friend told him that we were leaving and that the waitress had been extremely rude to us. The chef came out on to the street, and we thought we would maybe receive an apology. But he said we had to pay for the meals we had ordered. The waitress was also now on the street, and the chef told us that he would phone "the cops." (We felt we had done nothing wrong, as they had not carried out their part of the contract, to provide meals to us within a reasonable time, and the waitress said we could leave). We kept walking, but the chef grabbed my husband's arm and swore at us. A thoroughly unpleasant experience. I think that this restaurant takes more bookings than they can manage, and are not honest about the time wait. The entrees that we had were nice and the rest of the food most probably is also, but this restaurant needs to pay a lot more attention to service, learn how to treat customers and employ more staff to adequately serve their customers.

I have been to Angkor four times in the past 12 months, and it's always the same; amazing service, and amazing food at a very reasonable price. On Tuesday night before Waitangi day, I visited with a group of girlfriends. We were very indecisive as to what to order but the waitress was happy to answer our questions and make suggestions for us. I ordered the combination pad Thai but asked for it to be served spicy. This is not a regular menu item but the kitchen happily obliged and it was the best pad Thai I'd ever eaten! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Just had the most amazing meal at Angkor tonight. We were impressed by the variety of dishes on offer, and that they stocked Singha beer. (Which went great with the food!) One of our party was a little overwhelmed by the choices, and asked our waitress what she would recommend, and what the most popular dishes were. She was happy to recommend several and explain them in a little more detail than was specified on the menu, and was also able to answer our questions regarding sauces we were unfamiliar with, comparing them to tastes with which we were familiar so we knew roughly what to expect if ordering those dishes. We were really impressed with her menu knowledge. With a vegetarian in our party, our request for fresh rolls without pork and shrimp was absolutely no problem for them. When asked if dishes on the menu could be ordered without the meat and served just as vegetables, the waitress was quick to offer tofu as an option, even though it wasn't featured on the menu. Phenomenal service.

We had to wait a little while for our entrees, but nothing drastic and certainly not long enough to warrant a complaint. When they arrived they were delicious, served with sauces and fabulously garnished. The fresh rolls were what was expected, great chewy texture to the rice paper wrapper, thicker rice noodles than the glass vermicelli normally contained in this style of cold roll, which was a nice touch. Great crunch to the vegetables inside, and the crushed nuts in the dipping sauce were a great match. We had fried mushrooms which were pronounced absolutely delicious, and that one entree dish already made us decide we'd be coming back. We also had five spiced beef, which wasn't quite what was expected in terms of spiciness, but was cooked well and served with crispy noodles which we enjoyed.

Mains arrived quite soon after, still steaming. The coconut fish, Mongolian style beef and satay tofu were all delicious. The tofu-hater loved the tofu, the beef-hater loved the beef, the flavours were subtle but immaculately balanced and every mouthful was amazing. I don't know what their chef does in the kitchen, but it's magic.

We didn't stay for dessert, we were too full after our meals. what we didn't finish, the waitress quickly packed up for us to take away.

The table settings were neat and interesting, the atmosphere was nice, the service was prompt and friendly and we really enjoyed chatting to our hostess. We'll definitely be back, this is a new favourite.

Yum food, reasonable prices. Had a banquet for 2, with enough left to take home. The waitress was friendly and fast, but the only one working on a fairly busy night! (she did a fab job though!). One thing I must say was disappointing (although unlucky), my boyfriend sat down and his chair broke! He's not large at all, I just think the chair was old.

Our group of 29 had the best time last night, THANKS!!!!!!! The staff were great, very friendly and not bothered by the 2 year old boy playing on the floor. The food was delicious and the wait was not long at all considering the size and craziness of our group. Everyone really enjoyed the night. Definitely recommended.

The food was not memorable and the service was appalling. We waited over an hour for our order.

Only eaten here a couple of times, but the cocunut fish curry is so delicious! I like atmosphere in this place too.

i was appalled by the service when i went in for lunch also i got told awhile ago they accepted accor advantage plus card loyalty hotel group card and when i pulled it out i felt like i had pulled out a gun after being told very abruptly that they didn't honor the card! the drinks were good IL give them that but the price joined with the
abrupt service and dated decor means i only give them 1 star hope this helps them to improve there service!!

Fantastic food! Great customer service :)
I have read the comments below and to the person who has said this is not Cambodian food is crazy. The chef is Cambodian! The food is made completely fresh from hand and the flavours are amazing! I have tried many Asian restaurants and this is the best by far, loads of flavour and the chef is very accommodating. We are regular clients and the fact that the restaurant is always busy on weekends proves the food and service is excellent. A+++

Amazing food! The wait wasn't too long for the mains and tasting just delicious. I will definitely be back. Our waitress was lovely and service was really great. Had 2 large groups come in while we were dining, one with a booking, one without. They did everything to accommodate both groups, moving around tables and didn't seem put out in the slightest.

I was dining in this restaurant on Saturday nights thats been to which was the 28 August and and thought the food was great the service was good. They were definitely busy, there was a large booking already there when my husband and came in there wasn't even a seat for us but they went out of their way to find us one. We noticed that a few tables were getting fustrated that night, we ordered the banquet and yes it took time to come out but thats what we expected for a banquet. I remembered the european lady that was serving our table saying that everyone had ordered the banquet so it wouldn't have been easy for them to do big tables all in the one go and at different times. I just read the other comments about this restaurant and I suggest you go on a quiter night to experience what they can offer you. Their food is very good, I would recommend this place to anyone who is into aisan food. Oh and all the staff are cambodian even the pacific island lady that someone mentioned in their review...lol....apart from the european lady...lol..overall Angkor is a great restaurant and i will be back.

The food is great, but the wait for the food is appalling - we were in a group of 7, chose to have the banquet menu $35 per head and had booked for 630 (so not late). Waited 1 hour for soup, another hour for entree and then another hour for mains! There were other diners who were waiting for the same length of time and in fact some diners got up and left after waiting for 1.5 hours without any food.

So my advice - phone before and see how busy they are, if you are prepared to wait - the food is nice, I don't think we'll be dining here again tho'.

We chose to eat at this restaurant last evening. All was going well, however the service very slow. We still hadnt recieved out main meals and we had been in the restaurant just over an hour. We asked if we could get them served, when several tables around us received their mains and had only been seated a minimal amount of time. When we questioned the large Pacific Island lady re this, her response was "these people asked to be served quickly, we have to look after our customers. If you have a problem, you should sort it out with them!" (meaning the table that had just been served) OMG, what a terrible women, certainly not someone you would want at the forefront to any business!!!!! Never again!
