Review De Coree - Palmerston North

100% FAVOURITE RESTAURANT. 10/10 food. 10/10 service. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. My family and I have been eating at this restaurant for at least 10 years now. If you don’t book in don’t expect a seat and don’t be sour for being turned away, they are not entitled to serve you. NOW let’s talk food. The rice bowls, de coree wings, and udon noodles are our favourites. We order them every-time. You won’t find a taste like the food you get from de coree. They are homemade sauces and you cannot recreate the flavours like these. The wings are crispy in a sweet succulent sauce. The udon noodles are tossed in oils and flavours that mix and absorb so well together. The rice bowl comes with an egg on top and you mix it in and the flavours are incredible. EVEN TAKEAWAY IS UNREAL. The prices are so reasonable for the quality and the quantity. Love this place so much.

Doesn't look much from the outside but step inside. Lovely elderly gentleman greeted us. Ordered sampler 1 entree. Mains , I had beef sizzling plate, hubby had lamb sizzling plate. Best meal out in a long time.

Let's start with the food - it was delicious. I haven't been to Korea and can't say for sure it's authentic, but I was pretty well convinced. There was a good selection of dishes without being so many as to make it confusing. Next the service - it was impeccable. Not intrusive but timely. The prices were reasonable. When I visited it was almost empty, which was a shame. It's on the edge of the middle of town and amongst a whole lot of other restaurants and this could be why, as well as because I visited on a miserable Monday evening.

It's a nice cozy place good for small family or group gatherings. Small selection Food are in reasonable size and price. Good overall for a casual meal. I say 7/10

I love this Restaurant. The decor is outdated, but do not let this put you off. It is run by 1 Korean man who does everything himself and the food is so so so good. Also, it is good value for money and the wait was not long. If you love Korean food, go here.

The costumer service is amazing. The food is delicious and comes to you directly from the kitchen steaming hot. The stir-fry, you get to mix it yourself and it's 10/10. And the decorations and music make me feel at home.

I have eaten here at least 10 times in the past 3 years and the food has been consistently great! Always lots of flavour and it is very authentic.

Rating based on the reflection of the food. Owner was nice and had a sense of humour - but got 4 dishes that were simply average at best. 2 Stars this time.

Great food and even better service from the man Mr Koji himself (see scary movie 4). The suspicious Asian fellow that shows the minx around the house. Living legend. Great restaurant

Food here is AMAZING!!!!! We were not disappointed and it was quite possibly he best Korean food I've had. I would highly recommend the beef ribs and the rice in cast iron pot

My wife and I eat at De Coree often. We have never once been disappointed. The staff are polite and the service exquisite. The meals - the main attraction and primary reason for visiting -is always divine and served in quick time.Certainly a must visit restaurant.

Was here on Sunday. There was no one at dinner time. Maybe due to holiday season. Bibimbap was delicious. Authentic enough. The yok hwee or beef sashimi was good but it had some japanese influence from the soya sauce used. Manager was serving that day and his service was great.

I generally don't write reviews unless it is to pass on compliments and tend to overlook bad service, bad food as I understand that everyone can have a bad day. What prompted me to write this review was the unfortunate incident that happened to us on Easter Saturday when my husband, myself and my 4 year old daughter tried to dine at this restaurant. We live in Wellington and were visiting Palmerston North for the Easter weekend and have noticed this Korean restaurant and since we love Korean food have made a note to try it during our stay. We took our daughter to the Lido Aquatic Centre and had an enjoyable morning and she was hungry after the swim so we bought her chicken nuggets and chips from the café in the aquatic centre and decided to head to the De Coree restaurant for lunch. My daughter ate some of her food in the car and we carried the rest of her take away bag with us in to the restaurant and asked for a table for 3. There was just one staff there at the time (around 12.30 p.m.) and just two customers finishing up a meal and no other customers. The waiter just took one look at us and pointed to a table in the middle but I asked to be seated by the window so that I could keep my daughter entertained without disturbing any potential diners that may come in. The waiter didn't seem to be happy with our request but followed us with the menus to the corner table and left leaving the menus on the table. We noticed a sign on the wall saying that there are lunch time specials so called him back and asked what they are and he frowned and said no. no specials, just order from the menu. So we looked at the menu and decided what we liked to order and called him back. My daughters takeaway chicken nuggets were on the table at this stage. The waiter came over and said no other food is allowed in this restaurant and I said yes, that's fine. We will order some rice for her and we will order two full meals including an entrée and main each. Then he said no no, she can't eat that here, you have to leave. We were so shocked and speechless for a moment but then I smiled at him and said I am sure you don’t mean that. We are your only customers at the moment and we will be ordering 3 meals. This man raised his voice and pointed to the door and said go! go! go!. My little four year old daughter got scared and jumped out of her chair and we got up too and left since it was not worth the trouble. What made me so upset was that my daughter kept asking why the angry man shouted at her and I explained that he must have been having a bad day and that he was not angry at us. But she kept asking about the angry man the whole day and it spoilt the rest of the day for us. The food in the restaurant might be amazing and it has not put us off the lovely Korean people and other Korean establishments we frequent but We would like this particular person to know it is not okay to treat your customers this way. If this is an employee, the owner should take note and educate the employee on proper customer service and if this is the owner, I can only assume you were having a bad day and apologise to us and specially to my daughter who you provided with the first experience of mean unreasonable adult behaviour.

Love this place, their chicken is the best! I've travelled through Asia alot an think that while this place isn't always 100% spot on service and food wise, they definitely serve great tasting food and are worth coming back for!

We spent a year in Korea and quite frankly this is the worst Korean restaurant we'd been to. We speak Korean and when we greeted and ordered in Korean the waiter had no idea what we were saying. The menus have English and Hangul so that made us a bit annoyed. Needless to say the service we experienced was more than impolite. When the food finally arrived it was not as we had hoped. I think that if you want authentic Korean food you'll need to look elsewhere.

Quite possibly the best food I have ever eaten (and I like my food)...<br/><br/>The staff are fantastic, very eager to please and the service is exceptional. Everyone we have taken there loves the place. The owner couldn't be more friendly or helpful if he tried.<br/><br/>Considering how good this place is, and how amazing the food is, the cost is ridiculously cheap.<br/><br/>If you are planning to eat out in Palmerston North, do yourself a favour and try it...Do try the samplers, and the iron bowls are my pick.

Our number one choice in Palmy when we feel like going out for a simple and affordable meal. The food is fresh and delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing. We tried quite a lot of meals now but always come back to the iron and stone bowls. The classic "Bibim bap" is just delicious. We always feel welcomed by the friendly owner. The Korean Hite beer is a must-have!

Love the food and service. Great tasting food, the BBQ dishes are to die for! Great selection of starters, the sampler (which is a taste plate of all the starters) is a must. <br/><br/>Excellent value for money and taste.

My partner and I have been there so many times and we brought some friends with us quite often and we have never been disappointed! The staff and the owner are very friendly. The food is great and we love the iron bowls and stone bowls. The dumplings are awesome too. The whole menu is very tasty.

This is a great little place for a meal - well priced, friendly courteous staff and lovely dining music is played. The food is amazing - I am now a Korean food convert! We've enjoyed the fried rice, tasty stir fries, stone bowl chicken, twice cooked belly pork stir fried with veges and all have been gorgeous. I don't like my food too spicy and they oblige by making very mild versions as well as the hot spicy versions. Just ask. Pricewise - very reasonable with mains from $12.50 TO $16.50 and entrees around $6-9. Excellent value for authentic Korean meals.

This is a fantastic place to dine, staff always friendly and food is devine. Very good value for money and my husbands and sons favorite place to eat. We love the iron bowls and samplers and the hubby who loves to try anything out of the norm enjoys being able to try things that are a bit different. Keep up the good work.

I have eaten at De Coree three times over the last six months, once for lunch and twice for dinner. On all three occasions the food was divine, the service very good and the prices modest. The wine selection is OK, and priced well below what you'd expect.<br/>I travel a lot, and like to try different places, but De Coree is on my list of places to go back to.

This is one of the best restraunts ive ever been to. <br/>I think it is family owned and operated and they are very friendly and helpful.<br/>Ive had quite a variety of their meals and theyre all very good<br/>my favourites are the bulgogi and the iron bowls<br/>The meals are well priced also
