Review The Coffee Club On The Square - Palmerston North

Tess Hutchings
Purchased eggs on toast with hollandaise, was delicious πŸ‘ŒπŸ» Mocha was great too! Spacey room & lots of windows Paid parking at the square or on the side of the road 3 toilets available

Considering the influx of (many hungover and/or tired) patrons from a festival the night before, the Coffee Club put on amazing service. We were told in advance about the food wait time (which was very reasonable considering), the staff taking the orders were efficient and friendly and there was plenty to choose from. Our table of five had all different dishes and drinks, and we were all very happy with them. Fresh, delicious, good value for money. Clean cafe with plenty of seating inside and out. I would highly recommend this place for brunch or any other meal. I would return each weekend if I lived in Palmy!

First time in here and the service was amazing warm welcoming staff and the food was beautiful

Wow, just absolutely divine. We went in for lunch and both of us had the Tempura Fish & Chips - gosh could not fault it!! It was so good. And the coffee was damn good as well. Hard to find somewhere else that does a good mocha, but this place definitely does β˜•βœ” wouldn't hesitate to go back again

Coffee club never disappoints. Always good food. They ran out of paper printing our order and forgot us but gave us free drinks and brought our meals out within 10 minutes after we reminded them

Wonderful, and in a great location with lots of parking nearby. Top marks for the meal. The menu, available on the table, has a good range of meals to suit all tastes. I chose chicken, bacon & camembert flat grill with a house soda - grapefruit flavour. This meal was a good size for lunch with a small wire basket of chips on the side. The grill was tasty and did not fall apart. Other diners with me were also happy. There is a bit of a traffic jam at the ordering counter with waiters having to move through the area where diners stand. All were wearing masks. I'd like to see a hook put in the toilet cubicle to hang a handbag on. Our vaccine passes were checked twice.

Excellent service, quality food, and great coffee! We stopped by for a bit of breakfast while walking the Square. Fantastic service, very helpful and friendly staff. The pancakes were absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the caramelized banana. The cream topping was fresh and not overly sweet, adding to a nice balance overall. As for the coffee, I got a flat white. Excellent flavor and perfectly made. Would definitely recommend a visit!

This was an amazing place to go for lunch best coffee we had had in along time but the food was a little dry. The shop it was really busy and I felt it was very cramped in shop was too small for the amount of tables they have inside 😊 but would definitely go back for coffee πŸ‘Œ

Good food at relatively affordable prices, including great coffee. Plenty of choices that included vegetarian options as well as options that met specific dietary requirements eg. gluten or dairy free. Clean and well kept. Staff were lovely and very welcoming.

The food is always fab. It's the go to hangout spot for my friend and I, the atmosphere just makes it so easy to just sit and chat for ages, I've never ordered anything myself so I'm not sure about the service but I doubt there's anything to complain about

Our favorite place to grab breaky and coffee 😊 The food and coffee is always delicious and the service is always great! The potato rosti with smashed avo and whipped feta with bacon is our favorite 🀀

I visited this establishment yesterday evening for a takeaway coffee on the way to an appointment. Wow. Upon reaching the main counter I was greeted with silence from the attendant. After placing my order the apathetic response was "OK". The only other word spoken by the attendant was "Flat white" when the coffee was ready.

Clearly my patronage was nothing more than an inconvenience. Don't worry: I won't be troubling you again.

Very disappointed with my takeaway Benedict breakfast today☹️ The mushrooms were not nice at all (and I’m a mushroom lover) the hollandaise sauce was cold and tasted like mustard. My soy hot chocolate was very milky, and the last coffee I also had from this same coffee club was also very flavourless. Won’t be going back.

First time in Palmy & coffee club left a lasting impression. The food great, the service amazing. The staff were warm & welcoming even so close to closing they had no problem serving us & it was so quick. Thank you !

At first I was apprehensive about coming here as the reviews had been a mixed bag! However, I came here for the first time 6 weeks ago and since then have returned more than 10 times. I’ve been making my way through the menu (trying to order something different each time). So far the potato Rosti w/bacon is my favourite! Coffee is always good and made fast! Food is usually quick as well, depends on how busy they are like it would with any cafe. Highly recommend, lovely staff too 😊😊

Lovely setting overlooking the Square. very good Coffee Club food - I loved the special egg Benedict on potato hash brown ... or the posh word! It was delicious, indeed!
Service was efficient and particularly friendly.
Yes, when I'm back in Palmerston North, I'll be back.

I go to the coffee club a lot so I feel a bit bad about writing a not great review. But they are pretty highly priced for what you get. I have tried most vegetarian things on the menu and they're mostly meh. The coffee is usually good, but it always takes ageeees to get it. Service is okay. Nobody looks very happy to be there though. But I still always return for some reason, I like the location and the coffee cups have cool quotes on them.

exspensive food. CHEAP PRODUCE. POORLY COOKED. got offered to come back and have free coffee. INSULT. WHY WOULD WE BE BACK. NOT RECOMMEND. Had a breakfast and iced coffee. waste of money. sunday 16/8/15

Went there Saturday 7th March, food was over rated & overpriced, only upside was the amazing service by Aiden - well done that young man - so friendly - made a most unpleasant experience more enjoyable

It was a quiet cold day so I think I should get a hot chocolate. I decide to try Coffee Club because I was working close there. However, it was a terrible hot chocolate. Seems to be just Milo with some hot water. I was quiet disappointed and I feel it does not worth what I spent for.

The coffee is terribly inconsistent, sometimes ok and other times badly made. Some of the staff are quite impolite and need a lesson in appropriate body language. The food is below average. I've had yoyo's, sandwiches and cakes, and they've all had something wrong with them. The yoyo's were flavourless, and the filling was far too sugary. The sandwiches had no real filling. The cakes were stale, bland and hard. The tables also need a good wipe down as they always seem cluttered with plates etc and / or have spills all over them.
Pretty good location and like the choice of sitting outside especially with summer coming up! The serving sizes are small and on really big plates.
The reason for a low rating is customer service and the over the top pricing with a very very average meal. I don't think I would be re-visiting considering the amount of other options with much better tasting food, bigger portions, better customer service and cheaper... sorry guys!

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the past reviews on this place. But I was pleasantly surprised. Service was wonderful, we dined on Labour Day and I wonder if it was the owner working - short haired friendly lady with glasses. Anyway she was great, I asked her a few questions about the calamari on their menu as I had been burned in the past ordering calamari and being presented with frozen shaped fishy muck. She assured me their calamari was fresh cut out the back and dusted with their lemon pepper coating. I was sold - and it did not disappont! Tender rings, very tasty and a real treat. Meal came with fries and was good value for money. She wandered over to our table later and had a chat to us, she was lovely. Hot chocolate was very good too, nice and sweet with marshmallows. Really happy with all aspects of our visit and will come back.

The staff are rude and unfriendly and clearly don't want to be there. I asked for a soy latte and just got a "yep" as a response, without even looking at me.
It took WAAY too long to be made (at least ten minutes) when I was waiting to go because I had to get to work.
Very average tasting coffee, quite 'heavy' in texture.
I like the location though.

Visited this place after watching netball on Saturday 16 June and ordered the soup to take away. Paid $11.50!!!! and then sat down to wait for order to arrive. Hmmmm approx 15 mins later I enquired when my order would be ready and was told that it had already been taken away (by some other lady). I was offered a replacement but chose to ask for a refund instead, as I didn't have any more time to waste.
Overpriced. Poor service, and lack of care.
Siobhan
Very overpriced! small portions. Very generic decor, definitely feels like a franchise cafe
Fred
Small portions, for a high price. Staff were OK but I doubt I would go back.

We chose this cafe because it had a good childrens menu. We ordered salads for the adults. For the price it was very disappointing. Very little chicken (3 pieces) and no dressing on the ceasar salad. The chicken had been an extra cost of $6.50. A lot of roughly cut lettuce. We all thought it was not value for money. We also waited a very long time considering the cafe was very empty. :(

Decidedly average.

My husband and I ate there on a Wowcha voucher, $25 for two mains and two coffees. The coffees were fine, but the meal was not as billed on the menu.

We both had the lamb shanks, which were very small. The description was: 2 lamb shanks, slow cooked in red wine with garlic and rosemary, served with mash and wilted spinach. It wasn't spinach, it was silver beet, and those two taste quite different, I like spinach for starters! The sauce was not red wine, it was tomato, and very heavy tomato paste at that.

Everything else in their cabinets and on the menu was hideously priced, $4.90 for a triangle of chocolate brownie??!! I don't think so!!

Like I say, decidedly average. I won't be going back to dine, maybe for a coffee, but definitely not to dine...

Nice breakfasts! But I'm not used of eating my eggs scrambled, especially when they are almost white as if there is too much milk. The steak for breakfast was an unusual twist. Tasted nice however.
