Review Flavour Bistro - Palmerston North

Amazing food, and service was attentive but not overbearing. Definitely recommend.

We walked in (following all Covid rules) order coffee and something sweet. Customer service was on point! Coffee looked amazing with the coffee art (as pictured) ☕🍰

Great fast service, food was yummy and reasonably priced. Clean, tidy and great variety of options. Parking tricky but it's a great location... Totally recommend a lunch or brunch here... Coffee was really good too! 😁

If you want wonderful service and exquisite food, Flavour is the place for you. I definitely recommend the sharing platters as a great way to try a bit of everything.

Was disappointed that the menu had changed. But we had a nice evening, with nice food. It would have been nicer if my drink had come in a nice glass, not a handle, after all ladies like to drink from a glass, not a handle. Other than that, it was good. Value for money

Had a lovely breakfast here with my family today, our french toast and bacon was perfectly cooked and the service was lovely. Definitely worth popping in for a cuppa and bite to eat. The latte art was a cute treat as well!

They appear to be refurbishing and combining a coffee shop, with a restaurant, and a bar all while remaining open! A big ask, but they are making it happen smoothly! They served me a delicious sweet muffin (VERY good), and their coffee is extremely good. Cafe staff were very helpful and caring! I'll be back.

Food was nice, only thing me and my partner was disappointed with was the steak, me and my partner like our steaks juicy, nice medium rare, both steaks was well done, our total bill was almost $150, expected our steaks to be cooked how we wanted it, but we're both always to polite to complain in person... service was excellent as always, maybe having window sills wiped every now and again would be nice considering had dead bugs and dust sitting right there, wiped the window sills myself so we didn't had to sit there and eat our food while looking at that 🤢

Excellent apart from asking for no mushrooms and still receiving them and no spoon with my iced chocolate. Would be 5 stars otherwise. The meal was Excellent though and the kids enjoy coming here also but that may be because of the ice cream

Came in for dinner. We ended up being slightly late for our booking, but the staff were so lovely and accommodating (special mention to the waitress studying ECE who made our toddler feel like a VIP - I think it's the best experience out he's ever had!) and the food was delicious and very generous portions. Thank you so much for a great meal - we'll definitely be back!

Beautiful breakfast. The service was outstanding an everyone is very welcoming. We got the egg bene on waffles. Yaaaaarm. Its not our normal place to go but im glad our local was closed because we now have a new favourite place to come. Havent left yet and already cant wait to come back 10 out of 10.

First visit to Flavour Bistro. We were welcomed by very friendly staff. My wife and I ordered chicken filo with fries from the front shelf and coffees. Fries were very nice, in fact one of the best ever tasted. Chicken filo was very nice too. Coffee was a bit average, but apart from this it was a very nice experience.

We really enjoyed the service. The waitress was attentive and caring. It was obvious she wanted us to enjoy ourselves. 5 Stars to her.

Excellent service, the staff was brilliant. Clean friendly environment, Excellent prices and the taste of their food is exquisite, my family loved all the different varieties of food, the bubbles drinks and my latte was the best ever, I'll recommend this place to any one

Had a bite to eat with a friend before an evening movie on 29 August. Service was friendly & quick and the food was tasty. But there was a big, very noticeable, chip out of my plate. And there was damage to the wall next to our table.. There was also sauce or something spattered up the wall. Not nice to sit next to while eating! I tried to email them directly to give them feedback, but their mailbox is full. So overall I got the impression of lack of attention to cleanliness and detail, which is a shame.

There is refurbishment carrying on while open ... which is very ambitious!
They seem to be combining a coffee shop, with a restaurant, and a bar ... which is also ambitious, but I wish them all the best!
I had a delicious sweet muffin (VERY good), and their coffee is extremely good.
Recognsing staff was complex, but a Sparkie on the job was helpful. Cafe staff were very helpful and caring!
I'll be back.

Had a wonderful meal with friends last Friday. The restaurant was busy but service was awesome! Food is delicious as always. Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed dinner here!
The food was great and served promptly, staff were friendly and approachable, and the atmosphere was perfect for an end of year dinner with friends.
Would definitely recommend for any occasion!

First dine at Flavour Bistro on Wednesday and had an amazing experience!
Delishious food, nice ambiance and excellent service!
Perfect place to go to for a special occasion or even just a casual dinner with friends or family.
Highly recommended!
Thank you for such a wonderful night!!

I would have give 0 if it were an option!
Lunch out with two others Fishermans basket was ordered, chips were luke warm and soggy, it was hard to actually identify some of the items.
The other meals were the sweet corn fritters with small salad and avocado/tomato salsa. The first time the fritters were burnt so were sent back, the second lot were also overcooked on one side and thick, gluggy, tasteless with only a few corn kernels.
We didn't have time to wait for a third time.
Inedible! Overpriced.

Despite their website stating that Flavour Bistro is vegetarian friendly, they do not have a single vegetarian main. The bruschetta was definitely a light meal, so I left unsatisfied as I had been quite hungry upon arrival. The sticky date pudding was good, but I had to ask for another fork as the one I was given was dirty -it looked like it hadn't even been rinsed since the last person used it. If you are vegetarian or vegan, best to give Flavour Bistro a miss, especially if you are vegan because I didn't see a single vegan item on the menu.

I come here on a regular Ba.... I come here on a regular
Basis, and the service is always good and prompt. I enjoy the menu and counter
Choices. Food and coffee always great!

We've eaten here several times. And I usually order the seafood basket. Which is great if you're after something greasy, fatty and deep fried :-) I think it's well priced too.

Recently we ate their Moroccan salad and they were spectacular. The Kumara crisps on top of the salad and the dressing were a crunchy savoury delight. The chicken was really well seasoned, perfectly paired with the balsamic reduction.

I highly recommend people dine here.

I have visited Flavour many times esp for their coffee - its really lovely coffee. Have had dinner a few times also but I find it a bit pricey for what you get. The meals are good though. I do like the atmosphere and the staff are really lovely.

My husband and I went to Flavour Bistro to celebrate our anniversary - we opted for the $50 movie meal deal. We got 3 courses, which started with a garlic bread, I had the curry for main, and hubby had the fish and chips. The portion sizes were generous. For dessert I had the citron tart and my husband had the cheesecake. We enjoyed everything about the meal. It was delicious! Although our waitress didn't know much about the menu, she was friendly and went to find out about any queries we had. There was no long wait between courses. We both had coffees and they were also delicious. I'd say it was good value for money - $127 for 3 courses for two people, wine, beer and two coffees and two movie tickets. Possibly the only fault I could find was the chairs weren't the most comfortable, but that's only a small thing. Would definitely go back.

First appearances are appealing, but the decor is by far the best part of the cafe. Understaffed, counter is horribly crowded making for extremely awkward ordering process, coffee was one of the worst I've ever had. Slice was dry and boring.

Advice to operators if you read this: train your staff how to make fresh quality coffee. Clear all the junk off the counter so that customers can actually interact with the staff. Make your cabinet food fresh.

I used to go here all the time and it was great. Now I wont go back any time soon.

I'm not very fussy with restaurants, but this place was so awful I'll never ever go back.
I got a vegetarian filo and a latte. The latte was so bitter that I couldn't drink it, even with sugar added. It was the worst coffee I've ever had.
The vegetarian filo looked okay from the outside, but when went to eat it it was just filled with mooshy melted cheese type thing and lumps of potato. It wasn't really edible and I ended up just leaving both the filo and coffee.
What a waste of time and money.

Looked good from the outside for brekky. And a very hospitable waiter. Value for $$$ was bad! I reckon this place caters more for the Asian appetite. Couldn't even spare a couple of slices of bread to mop up the eggs! One slice of toast???!! Spare it!!! The ONE rasher of bacon and the ONE kransky needed magnifying glass. Coffee was luke warm. Eggs benedict was just warm, hollandaise sauce was out of fridge. No glass for my juice. Not worth $37 for two people.

Dined here on Monday evening and were quite impressed by the massive menu and by our fish chip and salad meal we had.

However, we were more impressed with the delightful service! We had a lovely waitress who made us feel very welcome and brought our meals and drinks out promptly and with a smile. Staff like this are a real asset to the hospitality business. Keep up the good work.

An excellent dining experience - we will definitely be back.

My wife and I dined there Sat night, 7 pm. The bistro was quite busy, and we had a small, intimate table for two, by the window. Very nice ambiance and atmosphere of the busy street outside.

Service was quick and very pleasant. From the menu we chose garlic bread for starters, I had a Thai Red curry linguine chicken cutlet, my wife ordered Lamb Koftas with Greek salad.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the wine list included two excellent Sav Blancs - Villa Maria Private Bin and Oyster Bay. Well done. Most other places have the cheap & nasty White wines. We had the Oyster Bay.

The food was served quickly and the garlic bread was a lighter loaf, delicious and lightly crunchy with a drizzle of light mayonnaise.

The mains were also delivered promptly, with, again, a pleasant smile.

My meal was just delicious. Chicken beautifully cooked and crunchy coating: red Thai curry flavour spot on. My wife also loved her lamb koftas.

We had a chat to one of the waitresses about her learning to speak Thai to the chefs. Very pleasant and personal service/excellent food/lovely welcoming environment made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening out. We will certainly be back.

First impression on my partner's and I's breakfast foray was amazing. Great service from the lady behind the counter explaining to us that the menu on the wall was now no longer current and we could order from the professionally made menu folder. All was good in the world. We ordered a mocha each and a creamy mushroom on toast. The service was great, the place was almost empty (maybe a sign of things to come....) so it led to a very relaxed dining experience. The woman who served us at the counter brought out our drinks while we where waiting for our heavenly breakfast. She was amazing, great service with a smile, and the Mocha was served with a Whittakers chocolate-YUM!!.......while enjoying our mornings decadence we waited for the food and it arrived in a timely manner. Timely because it was obvious that they spent absolutely no time in preparing it. The reason for the wait was because we had ordered bacon with our creamy mushroom breakfast. The food was absolutely terrible. The creamy mushroom was a pale yellow mush, obviously heated up in the microwave, the toast was to the side and was just a couple of pieces of tip-top like sandwich slice (not the sourdough gorgeousness we where expecting). The meal was a terrible/disgusting slop and we will not be returning. The service was amazing but really all we wanted was a good quality feed, and at $35 for the pair of us we expected more.

Wouldn't dine here again.

Service is appalling - took ages to even come and get drinks orders, when they brought the mains didn't ask if we wanted more drinks, didn't ask if everything was OK with the meal, we left before they cleared plates. Needless to say we didn't stay for dessert!

Meals were average.

Worst dining experience ever!! Served by three staff, my order was wrong twice and when I asked to get it re made the first staff member rolled her eyes at me and made me feel terrible. When it was wrong the second time, I didn't even complain because the two people I was eating with had already finished, totally ruined the dining experience and I will not be back. P.S. They also managed to muck up one other person at our table order, but thankfully they got one part right as he is allergic to dairy products.....maybe you need to write down the orders next time.....sort it out guys!!!

One positive aspect - the food was great! Unfortunately the service let this place down. Apart from being served by 3 different waitressing staff, they had limited knowledge of the menu and ingredients. One staff attempted to guess what ingredients were in a particular dish before I asked her to find out. Another didn't know if a dish had dairy products in it. After asking if there were any specials, we discovered there was in fact soup which wasn't written on the menu (once we had ordered). Three items on the menu were not available, but we weren't told until the waitress returned to inform us. I would have thought being a potentially busy night for Mothers Day they would have ensured all stock was available. To top if off - if we wanted to choose another flavour of gelato (as the menu option wasn't available) we had to walk over to the shop ourselves and find out! In the end we all declined ordering desserts. A nice touch provided a free muffin for Mothers Day to the Mums which was delicious, shame this wasn't also provided as an option when we were considering desserts.
Overall, very disappointed but the tasty food saved the day and will give it one more chance with the hope service has improved.

Walked in with my son to get a quick takeaway lunch. Was greeted by a nice friendly girl who went to serve me but lady at the the other till said she would serve me. I then received No welcome from her and she went to charge me for the choc bar in my hand. I then asked for 2 ham n egg sandwiches and 2 slices, she hurried to do this, saw them coming on a plate and said sorry they are to takeaway, she then rolled her eyes, forcefully put them in bags and very rudely said $19.50. Not only did I feel like an inconvenience, the value for money is terrible! And both my slices were dry corner pieces!! Will never go there again, a shame as the venue was beautiful. Consider some customer service training for your staff!

My wife and I have become regulars here. We thoroughly enjoy the food, and the coffee is always a treat to our taste buds. I have found the staff to be friendly and professional. I recommend these guys highly.

Ive always loved Flavour Bistro but hadnt eaten here in a long time. I recently ordered lunch and a latte.I would rate the bacon penne pesto pasta a 1/10 it was extreemly bland and for $10 I would have expected better. It needed a ton of salt and pepper and it had heaps of oil at the bottom of the bowl. I was so starving that I ate the lot but it was very dissapointing. The coffee was only warm and my table had no sugars, salt or pepper. I had to get my own from another table. The waitress was quite rude and very abrupt in manner.

Often come here for brunch, the Eggs Benedict is probably the nicest one in Palmerston North and the staff are super friendly.

Coffee is never hot enough. The place has a lovely feel, and beautiful atmosphere. Food is good. I once got something specially made for me on Christmas Day which was a lovely treat. Chefs do a great job, but the waitresses, and girls behind the till are very disappointing. Mostly unfriendly, but they usually make you feel as though you are a burden. Great pity, because the place is lovely otherwise.

Been here a couple of times for breakfast recently. Flavours has a $10 breakfast menu with various options. From this menu, you get your meal plus a hot or cold drink for only $10 - which is great value. Our meals have always come out in good time (there is never more than one other table there when we dine in at 8.30am anyway). The meals are generous for $10. I always get bacon (2 rashers) with scrambled eggs and toast (2 pieces) plus a hot chocolate. A really cheap, well made, filling start to the day! The only grumble I have is the service. The girls could be a bit more welcoming and ask us how our meals are going, etc. We sometimes feel like a bit of an inconvenience to them. We will keep going back though for the $10 breakfasts.

I decided on this restaurant for my graduation celebration following the ceremony due to the fact that a couple of years ago we had a pleasant experience there.

We booked several weeks in advance to insure the seating we needed for 8 people.
On arrival we were asked to wait briefly and were then shown to a by far substandard table that was about half the size required for comfortable seating let alone eating. After complaining that this was unacceptable especially seeing the main restaurant was empty and we had book so far in advance we were reseated at a larger table.

To sum up the rest of the experience the service was sub par and unprofessional with a waiter leaning over someone to reach across the table to place glasses. We were not served by one waiter but 4 and only then to get orders and this was in a very impatient manner that made us feel rushed. The food was good but not good enough to cover the largely unprofessional service (or lack of it). These people were not rushed the place was only half full.

I would not suggest this to place to anyone who wants a nice evening.

Nice place to dine, relaxed atmosphere. Safe menu with thai twist. Reasonable prices and prompt and friendly service.Wine list left room for improvement, but excellent cold beverage selection for a restaurant. Overall pleasurable experience.
