We love dining here, the staff are great, the food portions are generous and delicious plus the pink panther is my favourite drink.

Haven't been in a long time (it's never been my first choice) but kids really wanted to go. Surprised them going in for lunch and I was really impressed. Food was delicious - kids meals were great and my nachos were perfect. Received lovely service. Kids even had little colouring packs. Overall it was an enjoyable experience.

Nice atmosphere. Great for the kids. Plenty of games to play and they have a pool table. Great friendly service. Fast as well.

If I could give more stars I definitely would. Just came in with my family, had a tiny issue with one of our meals and the staff went over and above to sort it out super quickly. Honestly the best breakers experience we've had out of all the restaurants we've been to over the years. Lovely impromptu birthday meal. Thank you for making our day

Food was great. 1mof our group had there starter come out after the main. Resulting in main getting eaten 1st as not 2 go cold, then starter was not eaten, it was cold.. servers are a bit 2 casual I think,.. certainly changed in the last year..

Mussels were delicious. Super friendly service. Salt n pepper squid was great too. Fantastic family environment, relaxed dining, good cocktails! Large portions. paid $102 for 2 of us included starters, mains and desserts + 4 alcoholic beverages. Dont sleep on the HOMEMADE CHEESECAKE!!!! bring coins for the claw machines.

Great service and atmosphere, food was good. Staff were truly professional

Upon entering Breakers on a Sunday evening with no reservation, as we were not planning on being in Palmerston North, we were met with the friendliest waitress with the hugest smile. She had no hesitation in explaining the procedure around eating at Breakers, the specials board, and we could sit wherever we wanted. Ordering was a breeze, press the button at the table and hey presto a waitress appears. The below photos are the fish and chips, you even got to choose battered or crumbed fish and the mussels in a garlic sauce. As dinner was served the sun was setting in the hills and causing a glare, there was no hesitation in asking if I wanted the blind lowered. Top service, but only a four star due to the amount of grit left in my mussels. Overall a great experience. We will definitely be back

Came here for Nana’s 80th and it’s a big family friendly place perfect for these kind of gatherings! Huge servings. Good value. Easy casual atmosphere. No drama and ideal if you’re out with the family and extended family and mates. Loved the crispy mushrooms. Everything decent though and actually quite a cool kinda kiwi summer vibe to the decor. Thanks for having us Breakers. Very enjoyable.

Always a family favourite for good value dinners out. Our young kids like having their birthdays here. The daily deals make it a great week night option when you just need someone else to do the thinking, cooking and the dishes!

Had a great meal. Pool tables, toy machine, coloring for little ones. Lots of tables and space. Great place for a meal. Bit pricey but all over is.

Food was amazing and we enjoyed the arcade as we waited for our order. Only bad thing was the price. Bit expensive but it was a nice treat

I have not been to Breakers since the first year it opened in Palmerston North as I was already dissapointed and have avoided going again. But we attended a friends birthday dinner last month. My meal was so salty all I can taste was a strong sauce that took over the whole dish. I didnt even get close to halfway through it. Food is basic and very over priced for what you pay. Our friends were dissapointed with their meals too.

My food was wonderful and fresh and order came relatively quick for the time we came! (Heaps of families and a lot of tables booked up! We absolutely loved our meals, the Kiwi Burger is a great recommendation if you love burgers!!

Was recommended to go here with young kids by locals. Was told that there was a great play area and that they were very prompt with bringing out the kids meals. Unfortunately this was not something we experienced. We tried to go here early 5.15pm on a Saturday night as needed to get young children fed. The place had a few people in it, but was not busy or full. We walked in and queued at the counter to wait to be seated. After standing in line for 10 mins we observed another  group behind us find a menu and then find a seat. Would have been helpful if there was a sign pointing out where the menus where, as they were not immediately obvious, and that we were to find our own seats. Having never entered this place before we had no way of knowing, we just joined the large queue. Once we chose our meals, our group of 8 all chose varying burgers for the adults and the two children had chicken nuggets and hot dog meal. Another 15 minute wait at the counter to order and pay, which was very disorganised. People were randomly joining lines as nobody knew where it started and finished, there did not seem like there was much order anywhere.  Luckily the kids were amusing themselves with the play equipment. 20 minute wait for our drinks to come out individually, despite the same table number. 40 minute wait for the first of our meals to come out, two adult burgers. then after another 5 minutes the other adults meals came out, the kids meals were last. We weren't actually expecting top class meals and they definitely were not. The burgers were ok, most of the care went into preparing them, although the very runny egg in one of them made a huge mess of the plate before the burger arrived at the table. The chips were deep fried. The kids meals had a three miniature hot dogs and five chicken nuggets. Exactly like the cheaper brands you can buy at the supermarket. We went else where for dessert. A bit on the expensive side for what we received.

Pretty awful food. Terrible service. Overpriced. Definitely wouldn't recommend. In saying that, I haven't been in 5+ years. I gave it two chances and that was two too many.

Heard a lot of negative things about this place so had never gone to this place. But then some of my family had been and said it wasn't actually that bad so I decided to give it a go. <br/><br/>We ordered off their lunch menu which had pretty good deals on it. The tortilla wrap probably wasn't worth $10 though. My double BBC burger was good. Smaller than what u had imagined but was filling. <br/><br/>Overall this place wasn't as bad as I've heard. Service wasn't bad either. Would definitely come back.

Truck stop food at restaurant prices, avoid if possible. Pork loin was way over done, dry and almost inedible. Only redeeming feature is it's fun for the kids, otherwise it's just a ripoff. I mean Chicken Diane? Come on...
David
25-7-15 we went here for a birthday, I was skeptical at best when saw chicken Diane is the house special and that was confirmed I would recommend burger fuel, Carl j's, or just about any other burge place in town if your after a burger going by what the 7 burgers ordered at our table looked and tasted like, I ordered the ribs what a massive disappointment 6 spare ribs 18 cold soggy chips in a tiny bowl and the salad reasembled a mouthful of something a rabbit spewed up and absolutely flavourless. <br/>It may be slightly cheaper than similar restaurants but I dont really consider anywhere I order at the bar and pay At the same time a restaurant but personal preference I guess if your a foodie give this place a miss

Would rate the meal as average , at best. Ordered the fish chips and salad. Cost $16. which I thought was dear for what I got. Would think again before going thee.

I bought a burger which was $13.50 including chips but no drink. The meat in the burgers was horrible probably from the freezer bits of gross gristle were in it and the size of the burger was small 2 thin slices of meat and some cheese. The chips were undercooked I expected way more for this price.

We often go to Breakers in Palm Nth and Taupo just as a couple and enjoy. However we joined a birthday group (12 adults and 5 children) and found the Palm Nth kitchen was not organized for a group of this size. It was booked for 5.30pm and two meals came out at around 6pm which were eaten while the rest of the guests watched. We did complain about 6.30pm and told they were having trouble coordinating the meals and offered us some coke to drink while they sorted it. At 7.15 still no meals and we complained again and asked if the young children could be given priority. Soon after meals did start coming out but you could tell some meals had been under a heat lamp for a long time and the chips were mushy.

I wasn't expecting much from this place, but it turned out to be even worse than I thought it would be. Sticky tables and condiment bottles. Yuck. I get that it's a family restaurant and it's cool that the kids can run around and have fun. But the foods terrible. I ordered the fish and chips. I can't have read the menu properly, but I though it was going to be fresh fish, chips and salad. The fish was horrible frozen stuff. I see from other reviews that people have been going on about the delicious 'dory'. It's not delicious at all. It pretty much made me gag. I wish we had ordered some fresh fish and chips from our local takeaway and gone down to the Esplanade to eat it. That would have been far more enjoyable!

Table of 17 last night at Breakers Cafe. All meals great, good value, well presented and very nice. Food came out promptly and lovely and hot. Good service, thank you.<br/>Busy restaurant and we received fabulous food and service.

Went in a few weeks back for my daughter's 16th, the meal took forever to come, the staff looked and acted confused. The Dino stake hmmmmmm to bits of snitsile medium rear I think not cooked till it surrendered. This is the 2nd time in two years, never again.

We came in Thursday 24/4 night with our boys. <br/><br/>(Any co-incidence you got a glowing reference on here the exact same night after months of no reviews, when this complaint was heatedly carried out in plain public????)<br/><br/>Your staff overcooked the "death by chocolate" dessert in the microwave.<br/>It was hard to eat.<br/>It made noise when the spoon tapped it, it was left unfinished. <br/><br/>A friendly complaint was made up at the bar.<br/><br/>The Manager offered a solution (a hot chocolate) to a 10 year old child at our table; which the parent did not agree with.<br/><br/>We wanted to leave - we had all finished our meals and were ready to go and so the Parent asked for a refund and that's when a basic situation got out of hand.<br/><br/>The owner was sent over.<br/>The owner rudely admitted she didn't look at the food as it was "in the bin" and she was "too busy to look" for herself.<br/>In offering the solution, the owner didn't even bother to check the over cooked dessert now sitting in the bin.<br/><br/>When we explained that Mum had popped into the loo while son was attempting to eat the first part of the desert, he had no idea the dessert was supposed to be so tough to eat until Mum came back.<br/><br/>The owner replied that it was not up to her to; be "responsible for our kids" Wow?! We were just asking for responsibility of a paid meal that was left unfinished as it was unable to be finished, it was like an old gumboot!<br/><br/>This restaurant is NOT family friendly, *we* the customer were apparently wrong, I've never seen anything like it.<br/><br/>In relaying that I'd been in the hospo industry for 20 years and would never deal with customers like that, the response was "well would you have refund every table that complained?"<br/><br/>I say - Perhaps you should have more faith in your food!<br/><br/>You should have called the Police like you said you would when we advised seated customers of the food and service situation, we would've really welcomed the discussion.<br/><br/>This really ruined a great evening out with our kids.<br/><br/>Disgusted in your approach is an understatement and I will never eat at Breakers in Palmerston North, again. <br/>I will make sure that everyone I know, is aware of this incident.
Bridie Harris
Would just like to say a great big thank you, we had a large booking tonight, with several kids, I was a bit worried about the 3 boys (all 8), being too loud, but no-one complained and I did relax, the staff did a brilliant job, and the meals were fantastic, I left with the feeling that between other family fast foods (mcds,bk, and kfc) I found you to be very kids friendly, so again thank you and I will be letting others know about our experience.

Food was good, quick service. Possibly getting a bit dated but it is probably the last family place in town. <br/><br/>Service was good, really busy place so must mean something...

Dined here recently and was very dissapointed with the service I recieved. I always try to look for the positives as I appreciate that with a busy restaurant it can be hard to get things 100% right.<br/>The service in Breakers has steadily gotten worse over the past year. Staff appear disinterested in serving and certainly are not properly trained in customer service. Whether this be because they are clearly understaffed at times or whether they just simply do not want to be there. I watched as two staff members busily txtd on their phones in the side area whilst one very stressed staff member attempted to serve a line of waiting customers. No eye contact, smile or how are you was asked to any member of our group. I was even expected to carry my own tray of 8 drinks to my table??But thank you for offering me a tray to carry them????<br/>Staff are clearly not all being trained or supported. Other members of our group who dine with you more regularly made compliments of staff members who no longer work with you..Susie, Cate, Elliot and Anna. Apparently all efficient and very customer focused. <br/><br/>Good luck Breakers...It's a competitive market out there. I'd love to return one day soon, if just to see if you have lifted your service.
David
Great meal for the price, service was good and place was clean! Great if you have kids and it was quick so we could get to our movie with time to spare. If you are on a budget its a good option

Ordered the Monster Burger which wasn't bad at all but the garlic bread was very over priced - $5 for 2 pieces of toasted bread and very little garlic flavour, if any. Uninterested staff and generally overpriced. You won't see me back there.
Tommy Proven
Worst dining experience ever. Ordered scallops and expected to get half a doz. got 4 scallops, few chips and average salad for $24 - quite pricey. Staff not interested in serving - pretty poor considering they are working in the hospitality industry. Would not recommend.
Katie Ashcroft
Terrible service, took about 15mins to even get to order as only one person behind the counter and several people in line - shocking! We almost left! Food was excellent but we could not find one clean table!! It was quite noisy there and we couldn't tell who worked there as no one seemed to wear an obvious uniform.

My wife and I visit here regularly on Friday nights and really enjoy the fish and chip special. It is always fresh dory, battered and piping hot with chips and salad. Not a big meal but quite adaquate and good value for the price of $9.99. You can update to a larger meal if desired at a small increase in price. The premises are getting outdated but always spotless and the staff very friendly and helpful. You have to order at the bar and fetch your own drinks but the meals are delivered to the tables and the service is quick even when they are busy. If you are looking for a light evening meal and enjoy fresh hot fish, chips and a salad then I suggest you try their Friday special.<br/>

This place would have been a 3 star back in 1979, but sorry not up to current standards, might be ok for a long lost grandmother from Ekatahuna ,, but wont be returning myself. The food is uninspiring, the service is not up to the pricing ( which for what you are getting is not exactly cheep ) the decore is crass, the location (in an industrial car park ) could not be much worse.. pretty poor alaround

we took our to sons there and will never go there again. The chicken dish you could not cut as it was like rubber. The chicken burgers were processed patties and were discusting. We had to ask for a refund as the food was that bad. Staff didnt care and never apoligised for the appualing food. Much better value at mcdonalds. If you want to get ripped off go to breakers
Nicole Rule

Okay went out for lunch on a birthday, didn't realize you had to go get the drinks yourself even if you had like.. 8 drinks to carry back to your table, came time to order the people who ordered Fish &amp; Chips all had bones in their fish which immediately put them off, 2 of us who ordered burgers discovered that the patties were burnt and the salad mix they chose to put into it was bitter, I was disappointed and can happily say I will never dine there again!
Danielle Usher
i love it at breaker they are really good at helping people and doing there food right they tasted really nice and they do health foods

Well I have dined there on a number of occassions and have enjoyed the meal and the experience. My fav meal is the fish and chips. The fish is Dory and it is always fresh, soft to eat and of very good quality. The standard is consistently good and identical to the other Breakers restaurents I have dined at.I love the surfing btheme type ambience of the "Palmy" one.I cant understand the grizzles about the service as it is ok and the way it is done there.I notice that the moaners failed to mention that after ordering at the bar the food is delivered to the table which is fine. This is a good family restaurent not a high class one and this is reflected in the prices.I will happily go again.Recommended espec if you are taking the family along!

nzdating go there for regular events and on all 3times they have been wounderful fast and clean.<br/>However we have to go to counter to do the order will be better if people came to you to take the order !! <br/>Agree with the person above with the fries yes should be more of them as small portions however prices are cheap and great and fab meal !!! such a bright clean relaxing place has all u need !! kids loved it to !! ROCK ON <br/>JEMMA AND MEL AND KIM XX NZDATING CREW

I really enjoy the food, but the portion of chips I got was less then average.<br/><br/>The staff were excellent.

Hi there,<br/><br/>I have been to Breakers a number of times and I have had nothing but good service, in fact the last time I went there which was just recently, they were awesome and very friendly, I feel that the people that have commented on this page are extermely picking and are just pinting out the bad things, yea the barmaids are young but at least they have them gee you guys wouldn't get any food other wise...
Sharon George
This is the third time I have been to Breakers Cafe palmerston North and to be honest the last as all 3 times have been shocking and this time topped it. I only went because I thought maybe I had been unlucky in the past and the menu seemed good for kids. On arriving just in the front doors waiting for others the barmaid was yelling from the bar asking what would you like and twice I advised that we would come over to the bar when we were ready. The food was uneatable and I should have been kinder to my children and taken them to McDonald's and the service over all?? well you can't complain about something you never got.
Jennifer Dawick
On 28/1/2008 4 Adults had lunch outside. It was very hot and we asked for an unbrella. We were informed that all the umbrellas were broken and none were available. The umbrellus I believe are supplied to you by the Liqour suppliers.I suggest you get some more, or purchase some of your own for the facilities outside. We were supprised that we had to order drinks from the Bar and carry them out ourselves. This is not what one calls service. What do the staff do!!!!.It was my birthday and also a friends on that day. It was disapointing .
