Review Phnom Penh Oriental Delight - Palmerston North

Ed V
I've been coming here for more than 20 years, and thus far, not much has changed - the food has consistenly been non-descript Asian, but the tastes have always been great. Despite coming here for more than 2 decades, I've only really tried a small portion of their menu. The Hokkien noodles and Singapore noodles are our go-to favourites, especially when we have no idea what we actually want to eat. Their chicken, wonton noodle soup is the ONLY thing we crave whenever we're sick. (There's just something magical and comforting about this dish.) While the laksa, while not overly authentic, has the rich, aromatic falvours that any good laksa should have. However, the one thing that I love more than anything else, is their ice-coffee. Sweet and strong, it's a great treat that I dream about far too often. My kid, on the other hand, thinks their milkshakes are to die for; something that the wife agrees with. In short, there's something for everyone here and there's something for every occasion here.

What a gem! Recommended by so many people and finally able to try the food. Food are so yummy! Love the vegetarian chow mein. The roti and peanut sauce was the highlight! Friendly service and lovely staff. Very affordable and come with big decent portion. Very recommended

We love this lovely little gem of a place! The food is always tasty, consistent and affordable. The restaurant has always been clean when we go in and is spacious. One thing that I would change is the packaging for the 'dumplings' they are not ideal and stick well to the cardboard. They usually rip open when you try to remove them and the meat filling falls out. Otherwise highly recommend.

Roti bread: 10/10 Partner got the pad Thai and he said it’s his favourite place to get it so 11/10 First time for me, got hokkien noodles.. hands down the most flavourful and delicious noodles I’ve ever had 11/10. Can’t beat this place. We will definitely be back. Worth the price too!

I love their combination chow mein and never can actually finish. Always end up doing takeaway with the leftovers. They also do great roti and satay dipping sauce and great pad Thai.

This restaurant really gives me a deja vu type of feeling, the workers are very nice and the food is good but not flavourful enough, portions are amazing for the price.

Good prices and consistently high quality of the dishes produced. They have their priorities right in terms of what matters in food service. Not the fanciest of decor but a great deal of substance in what is on offer.

This is my favourite place to eat in Palmerston North. I try to there at least once when I am in town. The quality of the raw ingredients is top quality and the value is second to none. When I lived in Palmy I was eating there a few times a week. Sometimes even for lunch and dinner on the same day!

Excellent food. Freshly made, lots of fresh veggies and generous with meat. You have to order at the counter, but it's delivered to your table. Can't recommend enough

A quiet restaurant, The place doesn't look as stylish or inviting as other resturants but the food is served in good time and it tastes great, I would say it is an under rated restaurant or like not promoted as well. I really like the food there.

I love this place!! I have been coming here for years with my children whenever were back in PN, and have never been dissapointed. Meals have stayed consistent, the place is qaintly unchanged and if you know your favourite dish....it's good every time.

Pretty good! went for dinner but there was no one else, very quiet. ordered a seafood lakasa which was good, creamy with the curry spices. Recommend this place if you looking for south east asian cuisine. parking can be a bit of a problem when the nearby theater has event running.

Really like coming to this place for cheap eats. Pretty good portions too even though I've noticed that they've increased the prices to some of their meals over the years. <br/><br/>I always order the chicken laksa -nice creamy coconut soup base and not too spicy. It's always quite filling there for me personally. Never have to order an entree or anything. <br/><br/>Service is average though. Could do with a smile or two 🙄

We live in Wellington but visit family in Palmerston North every 2-4 weeks. The Phnom Pehn is our 'local' in Palmerston North and for about 4 years we have eaten there every time. Never less than great.<br/><br/>The food is delicious and the chicken noodle soup (we get the extra veges) is a homemade treat. Nourishing, beautifully flavoured and even low fat!<br/><br/>The prices are cheap and it is always encouraging to see many Asian customers, which is a good sign. <br/><br/>We always enjoy the smiles and service from the lovely family that run this great little restaurant in the heart of Palmerston North.

Been coming to this place every week for 7 years. Chicken Hokkien noodles with lots of home made chili is a must try. All the noodle soups are fantastic and authentic, the way it should be served as in Asia. Home made chili is very impressive, can't find it anywhere else. Great food for a small price, ladies are friendly too!

Been going for over 4 years and its where i get my "comfort food"...<br/><br/>"chicken wonton noodle soup &amp; chicken curry with extra chillies"<br/><br/>Donna &amp; Kylie :-)

Good cheap authentic South East Asian Cuisine. Definately a budget eatery but the food is what you go for.
Ron
Nice inexpensive option for students, though the ambiance isn't quite there, the good food will definitely make up for it. I recomment the laksa, and they offer a student discount too.
Big Al
Always enjoy the Satay chicken and Peanut sauce and the Ice coffee is very nice and cheap too!
Ace
