Love their food, also great value with big portions that will do two meals, love the Cheesy Garlic Naan and Butter Chicken (mild). Usually ordered via Uber..

As a seasoned connoisseur of Indian cuisine, I am thrilled to share my exceptional experience at Star of India, the gem that reigns supreme in our town's culinary landscape. This legendary establishment has managed to capture the true essence of Indian flavors, elevating its curry creations to an unparalleled level. After multiple visits, I can confidently proclaim that Star of India unquestionably serves the best curry in town.

Super yummy butter chicken and cheese naan bread, best butter chicken in palmy, very lovely service too

Food was exceptional, service was good. It's my number 1 choice for Indian food.

Friendly staff and lovely food, which was ready at the time advised. We had 2 x mild butter chicken and 2 x garlic naan. The chicken comes with rice included. Price was very fair for the very generous amount of chicken in each serving - for me one serve is easily enough for 2 nights. If you like your food in the slightest spicy then go for medium heat instead of mild because there wasn't a hint of heat in it (not a bad thing - I am a wuss). 3 convenient parking spaces right outside.

Got an assortment of meals. There is half meals and full meals, differing strengths of hotness. A vast array of meals on the menu and cooked in front of you. All up, this was the best Indian meal we have had whilst in NZ.

Curries always good with decent amount of meat. But twice even when I ordered Indian hot spicy level, it was just too mild. First time it happened I rang up to provide my feedback but couldn't be bothered second time. Maybe when I next order I will tell them to make sure it will be Indian hot!

Best butter chicken in ages. Lot of chicken, delicious.

The great selection of food and deliciously prepared. Best Indian food I have ever had since I moved from Auckland! Their each curry has an unique taste and the naan bread is just awesome! Besides, customer service is always welcoming & wonderful. Highly recommended!!! I ended up buying my lunch almost everyday from here. Thumbs up to both the chefs and thanks...they are doing great job.

Nice food, fast service and a good price.

Best butter chicken in town. I took some over to fxt for my step dad to try (since i always talk about it) and he loved it. Beautiful plain Naan bread. Just a perfect, filling, addictive, craving buster lol

Best indian takeaways in palmy and great customer service! The gentleman who served me was polite and efficient. I was greeted as soon as i stepped through the door. I highly recommend giving them a go if you haven't already.

Very nice place to get butter chicken, very good prices for a small one, and very good friendly service.

I've been driving through the shop several times but finally gave it a shot today. Love the lunch deal, very reasonable price and good portion as well as friendly service from the staff.I tried mild butter chicken, bloody delicious. However, I am not a fan of the naan bread here. Definitely will go back again.

New to their takeaway. My first order from them was Butter Chicken (medium) (just to be on the safe side) and boy, it was good! I decided to come back on another day to try something new and ordered Chicken Tikka (hot) and it was beyond my expectation. Spicy which was what I wanted and so full of flavour. And on both occassions, rice was so fragrant and freshly cooked which I really appreciate. Garlic naan is quite nice but would like it to be less buttery/oily. Overall, yes my indian-go-to! Nice and mannered staffs too! However, parking is a problem. What I do, is go grocery shopping at Countdown then walk across to the takeaway.

EXCELLENT FOOD. Only downside is having to wait if you order in store instead of calling for pick up, but it goes to show it isn't just sitting prepared waiting to be served. Best Indian takeaway in Palmerston North. Friendly service and well priced.
Zack Dupuis
Best Indian takeaway in Palmerston North, as far as I'm concerned. Very reasonable prices and I've never had a bad meal here in years of visiting.

Most authentic indian food in Palmerston North. We get takeaways from this place every week/fortnight nd this place has never disappointed us. Friendly service, tasty food and well priced

Very nice, spices are evenly balanced, service and waiting time was slow but rewarding, well worth the wait. That is all. I apologise for the random mess as I need 150 characters to post this...
I guess it's good for Kiwis, but for me, the butter chicken I ordered was way too sweet.

I've been here plenty of times before, but not for about 2 months and the food generally has been pretty good. We switched from our local Mirrch Masala after the quality of their meals slipped. I'm a big fan of spicy Indian food, lived in London for 10 years so might be a bit picky.
However, our meals this evening were very poor. I ordered a Prawn Masala (hot), my wife a Chicken Jalfrezi (med). Not a hint of Cardamon, Star Anise or Coriander - no depth whatsoever to the sauce, which along with the prawns was very watery. A handful of onions and one or two pieces of green capsicum each. The heat was harsh with no depth and I couldn't taste any spice in it.
My garlic naan was nice, but had very little garlic on it.
Shame - they are all very friendly, so I hope they sort it out. We'll be going back to Mirrch next time, or maybe even trying the place up Summerhill which I've heard good things about.

Hands down, the best Indian in Palmy. Have been many times and the food here is consistently awesome. Lamb Korma is the star of the menu in my opinion, also Beef Kadai is one of my favs. Awesome Naans and Poppadoms. Very quick service. Highly recommended.

This is probably one of our favourite places to get Indian takeaways, and we've been doing it for around 3 years now. We never have to wait too long, and the food is absolutely fabulous.
My husband is very adventurous and likes to test everything on the menu, whereas I like to stick with the same dishes every time. Neither of us have ever been disappointed.
The only thing I would say is, at those prices, it would be great to have something to cater to children. As we are a big family of 5, every time we have takeaways from here, it costs us around $80...which is a bit painful when I still have to do the dishes afterwards...

We go here whenever we get cravings for indian, my partner loves the lamb and beef curries and I as a vegan have the aloo palak which is just divine! The naans and onion bhaji are always perfect too.
Highly recommended!
Jessica
If I want indian this is the place I go. Not once have I ever had anything bad from this place and I have been going there since I moved to Palmerston North, 5 years ago. My Favorite is the Lamb Korma with their delicious Naan bread.

Oh man, this place makes the best curries. And their naan bread is glorious. Star of India is my first stop for when I want tasty takeaway food for a good price. It's not fancy, but the chefs know what they are doing, and the service is pretty good for a takeaway establishment.
Matt
YUMMM!! Just amazing, always know how to make great curry. I have been coming here for such a long time love it. Thanks guys.
Rebecca
Have been to this place twice now. First time amazing, everything was perfect.

Second visit was horrible, first off never phone order with this place or if you do confirm everything 3 times and the background noise is horrible. I picked up my order and a naan was missing, they replaced that and refunded my money (after I told them they would do that). Got home to find that my chicken sagwala was in fact lamb. Yet another call to them to fix up their mistake, this time they delivered the correct meal. Over an hour later from first ordering I sat down to eat my meal I ordered with cold naan bread as I had to wait for my meal to turn up.

Not sure I will be ordering from them again.

Love the butter chicken and the mango chicken and the naan bread are amazing! Love being able to watch them make the dishes and the naan :) Would highly recommend!

Wow this place is amazing...tried it for the first time last week and I can't believe I haven't known about them sooner. From the moment you walk in to the place it smells amazing. The people at this place are so friendly too and its such good value for money. I won't be going anywhere else for my curries - best butter chicken and naan bread ever!!
Kartika Chand
Have been phone ordering for past few weeks now. Tried chicken tandoori and chicken biryani, the best that I have tried. And I never had to call and complain about the standard of food. Highly recommended!!

Amazing.
Went there last night with my boyfriend. I got a vegetarian curry, he got butter chicken. We also got naans, and onion bahji. My boyfriend wouldn't try the onion bahji at first because he'd never tried it better and wasn't sure. We ended up having to go back and get more, he loved it so much. Curry was perfect and authentic tasting.

We tried this place first time in May we are vegetarian had Paneer Kadai & naans. It was awesome the paneer was soft as it should be and very good ratio of gravy to paneer. It was not like we are just having gravy. And very reasonably priced.Lovely taste best so far in palmy and from many places in NZ. I am Indian so have tried food back home. Its comparable and very good with all the authentic spices.

We tried it again last week same curry the gravy was awesome as last time but paneer was bit firm. We called the restaurant and they were very good. And offered us free curry for our next visit. this time we will like to try different curry. Highly recommended. It's yummy and very good value for money.

update in feb 13
this place never disappoint us awesome food, lovely service & best Indian take away in palmy.

First time visiting tonight after hearing many rants and raves about this place!!
I did a phone order and I think I went there after 10 minutes and it was already ready! It was really hot still, unlike other places where its cooled down by the time you get the order.
I really loved the garlic naan, its the only place that makes them like that and its amazing!!
I have had butter chicken all around palmy and this has to be my favourite.
Also the workers were very friendly and communicated well.
I think next time I will try medium...

Yet another great rate. Keep up the good work guys. Everyone who likes a good curry has to go try here!
Sophie
Our favourite Indian place! The food is just amazing, very fresh and lots of veggies/meat. So many options. Quite large portions (starters and mains) too. Perfect spiciness! When you ask hot, you definitely get it hot. The staff is very nice.

The best Curry ive ever had, love the cheese and garlic bread, a meal on its own!! Will definately be back and highly reccomend!
Caroline
I'm gluten-free and vegetarian so it's hard to find food at most takeaways. At Star of India it was easy to find something to eat and it tastes more delicious than other Indian place (takeaway or dine-in) I've been too. The prices are amazing and rice is included in the price for the food!

We've just had a takeaway from here for the first time after reading the great reviews on this site. We've had takeaways from a number of Indian places in Palmerston North and their mild butter chicken and naan bread did not disappoint. Next time I'll try a medium curry, just to see how spicy it gets.
Joseph
Can really understand why this place averages 5 stars. Is right up there alongside Indian2nite for my favourite Indian meals! Very cheap too! The food is delicious! Will come here again that is for sure!
Anna Lockwood
AMAZING butter chicken and naan bread! Best I have ever experienced. I would definately recommend this place to anyone looking for Indian meals. The other meals sound fantastic too, would be keen to try them as well.
Jayne
Star of India is my favorite Indian place in Palmerston North. Perfect rice every time and great meat to sauce ratio, have had Dal Makhani, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, plain, garlic and garlic and cheese naan and they were all excellent.
Gareth
Amazing Butter Chicken and Naan! Great service and always quick to prepare.
M
Fantastic food for a take-away! A shame that it's only take-away and they don't serve food on site.
Gareth
Great Tika Masala

Vary quick service. Friendly. No complaints at all.
Richard
Quite excellent. Freshly made really does make a difference to the quality and taste of the meals. The reason I didn't try this place earlier was that I was put off by the fish and chip style shop front, Don't make the same mistake I did and think that is indicative of the meals.
Rachel
Fabulous!

We eat here almost every Friday night - it's divine, fresh and tasty!

The Chicken Korma is delightful as is the Butter Chicken - highly recommended!
Jo
This place is the best!! All the dishes are fantastic. Love the chicken tikka and have been through almost all the naan breads, not to mention the Lamb Saag, butter chicken and pretty much every other curry.
Best to ring ahead though, they make everything fresh, its worth the wait!
