Review Bluebiyou - Papamoa

Bernard Gomez
Great place to hit if you’re in the Papamoa beach area. Even the inside dining has outdoor patio vibes. And you get a great view of the beach to boot. We tried the broccolini, pork belly, fish of the day, and the kid’s pizza. All were great. Hot tip: reservations here are good for getting good tables.

Sometimes it’s when a plan doesn’t come together that you win. As it was a Friday night, I stamped my feet and declared we were going out out. The Favourite Husband begrudgingly agreed providing it was one drink and an entree. Yawn. I suggested the Beach Bar. We found a park 3 miles away and trudged through the rain only to realise we were about 2 decades too old and significantly too hard of hearing to be comfortable in there. So we cheated and went next door to Bluebiyou. The last 18 months or so we have been here several times and I’ve got to say, it’s been consistently good. My mains favourite from previous visits has been the beef cheeks with an orange element; but I noticed that it’s sadly no longer on the menu. But we weren’t having mains, because the Favourite Husband was in charge, so I opted for the cocktail of the week; because I can. A frozen mango margarita. I’m not a mango fan but frankly nothing will come between me and a margarita. I have to say it was beautiful. Top marks. We shared the chicken liver parfait and the tempura oyster mushrooms. The chicken liver parfait was a good flavour but a bit stingy on the portion size. Pretty much every bar and restaurant in the Bay offers a version of this and I’ve had better. But it was ok. But smashing it out of the park were the tempura oyster mushrooms. To be fair you could deep fry a sandal and it would probably taste good, but the seasoning on these was outstanding. They were melt in the mouth morsels of paradise. I shall return and dine on margaritas and mushrooms and die happy. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because the ambience is a bit beige and you feel the party is happening next door.

Absolutely amazing food and staff. Only thing I wish I would have done differently is come here earlier. Will definitely be back within a week. Best food and service I have experience in the whole bay of plenty.

Visited recently on a busy Saturday night. Pleasant environment. Nice decor etc. Enjoyed my visit. The squid entree was a little bland and lacking flavor. The pork belly was delicious and I really enjoyed it. The service was a little slow but this may be due to it being very busy. Overall it was a nice evening. I am happy to recommend this venue.

Yas yummy and tasty. The cocktails are nice. We have been there on Public Holiday and they did not tell us that they are adding 20% to the bill extra cause of the PH. I think would be nice if they inform us before the service.

Spent the evening at the Blue Bar recently with 6 other people. Was a great night great service good selection of beers and the food was well presented well cooked. For a place the side of camp ground and on the beach that delivered more than I expected

Wicked staff and awesome atmosphere. Great for a few drinks in the evening, but even better for lunch or dinner. Fresh seafood, beautiful steaks, and plenty of great options for the whole family. I was really impressed with the level of service here and that is key for any restaurant. Don't even get me started on the views and scenery of this place, it is truly something you need to see for yourself.

At last a place to grab a drink with an awesome view. Good beach bar vibes, would definitely recommend and will make it my new spot. Didn't eat but the food we saw looked good.

Our party of 4 enjoyed delicious food with a great view of the ocean. I had Mushroom Cavaletti with Truffle topping. Divine. Not listed here for comment but so delicious.

The wagyu burger was good. What surprised me was the Brulee introduced by the beautiful waiter, which was delicious. Thick slices of caramel are topped with a not-too-sweet caramel sauce, and some strawberries add to the texture. The fly in the ointment is that the egg wash underneath is a bit melted, probably to toast the caramelized slices.

Party of 8 for lunch. Very hot gleary seating so take ya sunnies 😎. First round of drinks were great had to ask for a refill after a very long wait for mains. Food was lovely. Enjoyable lunch just attention to service next time would be great.

Such a nice sunny spot on a cold winters day & even a view of Papamoa Beach! Our waitress was absolutely delightful! My favourite was the prawns on toast - Who even knew it was a thing!?
