Review Breakers Restaurant - Paraparaumu

Sez Rudd
Had heard verry opposite reviews both sides, so checked it out for ourselves. Hadnt been in 4years. Daughter had never been. The service was friendly, clean tables, enough seated time to choose our order, quickly cooked & served steaming hot. Salad was fresh & crispy. Ribs were marinated to perfection with tasty sauce, with alot of meat on them & tender to the point it was falling off the bone. Enough to feed 2 of us to full for lunch & at a decent price. Taking my other daughter back tmrw

Absolutely lovely experience here yesterday, my partner and I came in for lunch and I had the best steak sandwich ever. Portions were very generous and the staff were so lovely! Both staff members had a great sense of humour, easily approachable and all in all amazing. Highly recommend

Prompt, pleasant service. The food was very flavoursome. My husband ate one of the burgers & chips $22 and I ordered a chicken ceasar salad $24. The portions are pretty slim for that price point. I think our 3yr old got a larger chip portion with his child's menu at $10. Again, the food was of good quality and tasted nice but it wasn't value for money.

Reasonable prices, great food and generous portions. We came in as a large group for a Christmas function and were all tended to promptly. The food was great and very reasonably priced, with generous to large sized portions, you won't be disappointed. One of our party ordered the fish and chips with double the fish (assuming he would only get 1 piece) and wasn't even able to finish the base meal, let alone the 2 extra pieces of fish - they were huge (and delicious). The staff were all friendly and went the extra mile, providing excellent service above and beyond what was necessary for our rowdy crowd. I would happily rate our experience 5 stars based on the service alone.

Service is great, staff are really nice and great food. Great experience.

Breakers does what it does very well. If you're looking for fine dining than this isn't the place, but if you're looking for an affordable place to eat, with simple food done well, and a place that kids are going to enjoy, than look no further. The staff are very attentive and the food comes out quickly after ordering. Further, there are meal deals throughout the week so perfect for a mid-week dinner out!

Good sized meals. The staff are really friendly and attentive. Our waiter was great, we were 2 tables, 10 adults and 10 kids. (it was my granddaughters 6th birthday) They were pretty busy when we were there and they still looked after us well.

Lovely food - just what we wanted to start a long journey north. Plenty of choice on the menu. It was a quiet time when we visited, so got our food swiftly. The staff member was very welcoming, polite and courteous. Restaurant was very clean and tidy, as were the toilets. Good background music. Great venue - would recommend and will return when in the area again.

We went here for dinner with family members. Ordered Chicken Burger which came out on a small plate and looked very small for an adult meal. We all commented on how small the burger was - it was the same size bun as the childs Cowabunga burger meal ($10.00) which also included chips and a drink. We queried the size with the two waiters who brought the meals out and they assured us this was the full adult burger which cost $14.00 excluding chips. Burger consisted of a couple of tenderloins, lettuce leaf, tomato slice and a slice of cheese. VERY ORDINARY for the price. After the meal I complained to the duty manager and was told they used to have a larger bun size for standard burgers but that had now been reduced to the one small size. I was told my complaint had been noted. Won't be back. Better value would have been to buy a burger at either McD's on one side of the restaurant or KFC on the other which would have cost a lot less than $14.00.
These type of restaurants have you over a barrel by requiring payment at time of ordering otherwise I would have refused payment.

These two plates of chips cost us 13.00. This is half the portion given last week. When we questioned the staff, we were told management wanted to give out smaller portions, disappointing , no consistency for your regulars, I won’t order the plate of chips again
Worst experience I have had in a long time but I should have known that the quality & service was lacking as there were only a handful of diners in sight. A night out spent with a good friend and a family member, quickly turned to custard. Have never eaten at Breakers before, however my friend who lived in the area said we should try it, which we did. Our meals were brought to the table & we were both less than impressed with the way they looked on the plate. It was clear that the oil was old, as the chips were brown in colour rather than golden, were also very greasy. Upon cutting my schnitzel the meat oozed red blood & was extremely raw. I ushered one of the staff over who wasn't overly concerned and said he would take it back to the kitchen for review & they would cook another. When my replacement meal arrived, the schnitzel looked exactly like the same piece they had taken away (The size & cuts were exactly the same) which I commented on. Was told that they would never re-cook something that had been eaten, can't say I trust this statement after the way in which they dealt with my concerns. After complaining a second time as the schnitzel was still very raw in places, the owner came over. He was very aggressive & it was clearly obvious by his comments that he didn't want to take on board my concerns. The owner told me that beef schnitzel will look red (slightly pink yes, but not red & oozing with blood) which I refuted & he then proceeded to point to the meal in an aggressive fashion, voicing that the meal was worth $21.90. He then went on to say that I wouldn't be given anything else & he would refund me for the schnitzel meal which he clearly wasn't happy about. In closing, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Rating 0 Unprofessional and lack customer service skills. Tables had not been cleared for hours. When asking for a refund as food took too long to be served (well over an hour) franchisee owners started to back chat and complain which I found highly disgusting, with no apology what so ever given to me and my guests, told the owner I'll never come back here and he replies "Good!"Now I find that behaviour very disrespectful from him and his female colleague as she was also arguing with me all because I wanted a refund. Now if you want to be treated like an animal this is the place to go. As the saying goes "the customers always right".

A family friendly restaurant, but what you see is sadly what you get. We've been here twice, thinking the 1st visit was an off-day for them... sadly not.

Staff generally uninterested, more keen on catching up on the gossip behind the bar to take your order. While the food was reasonable priced, it lacks anything when it comes to flavour or quality. Both times we went, the kids had the fish and chips, which they enjoyed, they also enjoyed the colourful kids mocktails.

Sadly, the adults food wasn't up to much. OK sized portions, but all very beige and bland,

The venue is probably in need of a spruce up too. The toys and arcade machines in the kids play area were either broken or not working, and seats ripped / worn through in the main restaurant.

Will probably reluctantly be back, as the kids seemed to enjoy it, and being a family restaurant no one really minds if they are a wee bit too loud.

The very warm and friendly welcome that's one we always receive from the management Andrew and Tanya and the staff also always very pleasant and helpful. Great service with smile which always make feel welcome and happy.

I went to Breakers for a meal 4 days ago and I'm afraid to say I won't be going back, food was very tricky to eat in the plate provided and the food wasn't great. I ordered Fish and Chips and the fish tasted funny and the chips weren't very apetizing the best part about the meal was the drink...

We go here regularly our favourites are the steak and pasta. Yummy garlic bread too! Really amazing service, the wait staff are always in a happy mood and keen to help and the food is at a decent price.

Went specifically to this restaurant today as a VIP Club card member and my husband accidentally overlooked presenting the card to cashier at payment of bill for discount. I went to rectify it some two minutes later to be told that no they would not honour it, so naturally very disappointed.

Reading the reviews, I should not be surprised there are issues with this establishment. I can only say they perhaps do not read the reviews and try and improve as indeed they are treated with contempt. The waiter was polite and obliging, we asked for tea to be served whilst our meal was being cooked. The tea was made in full view od us but no one wanted to serve it and it sat on the counter for a full ten minutes before it was brought to us. Meals are served with a salad (laughingly so and lets be clear this is supposed to be a salad, not garnish) ours was a dozed thin sticks of carrot, half a tomato two slices of cucumber and a lettuce leaf only fit for the garbage. It was plainly more brown than green, and had insect holes and nibbles. We quietly informed the waiter who gave us the one word apology however no attempt was made to either make reparation or for the culprit who plated it to offer an apology. I would like to say the reason was that the staff were under pressure as after all it was Friday evening - no, there were a total of six of us in the restaurant. For a member of a chain of restaurants, this one really lets the side down. I don't know how they can afford to stay open!!

I have previously done a review about one year ago, but my opinions on this place has changed since my family and myself have returned here numerous times. I have probably visited this place at least ten times in the past year and I must say depending on what time we arrive for dinner, the night varies. On nights such as Father's Day, we always arrive around 5:30 to ensure that my nieces are in bed in time as some nights can be long. One night we came, our food took 90 minutes to come out. The price point isn't too bad, usually costing around $190 for my family of 9. I feel like the customer service isn't the best. The food is pretty average. But, this is a family restaurant, and is the perfect place to take our nieces as there is a play area and the children can 'roam free.' I don't really like the idea of the paying at the bar as lines can get very long and you have to wait even longer for your meal. I do like the dessert serving sizes though, the brownie comes with three decent slices of brownie with a little bit of ice cream and cream. The brownie comes out warm and delicious!

Not a good day to have soup, lunchtime Mum. Sister and grandson ordered vegetable soup, something to warm them up on a cold winters day, warm the cockles yes but not here, soup arrived 20 minute's after order placed, arrived cold and I mean cold, second time around still cold (how hard is it to heat up soup) only the kitchen in Paraparaumu know, 40 minutes later the mains arrived still no soup, told we could have the soup after the mains ( what planet are they from) no thank you we were on our way got our $130 back but we still had to pay for our drinks, recommend the manager gets more training on how to act/respond to customer complaints, looking at other reviews they should have had plenty of practice. We wont be back.

I'm sorry but literally the worst place I've ever been. I ordered a BLT and my mum ordered schnitzel and chips. When our food arrives her chips were mild nearly cold and my BLT was the worst. It was not a BLT it was two pieces of white sandwich bread with minimal lettuce, soggy tomato, plastic cheese and a piece of ham. It was disgusting. When the lady came to ask if everything was alright with our meals and we said no, she looked like she had no idea what to do next, she panicked and got her boss. I've been there a second time (not out of choice), and multiple meals had cold chips, a hair was found in one and my fettuccine tasted like garbage

We often eat at this restaurant and find the food, on average, good value for money and of good quality.
Staff are excellent and. they easily cope with large groups and go out of their way to be helpful

15/8/2015
I went there with a friend and my daughter for lunch. We all had the all day breakfast. It was edible but that's all I'll say about that, much better value at Burger King if you want to eat cheap, bland food.
For the drinks my daughter had a lemonade, $4 per glass and we had chocolate milkshakes at $6. I say chocolate but really they were just milk with a hint of something, certainly not chocolate. We took them back and asked for chocolate and they came back the same. I recommend you eat somewhere else

My nachos tasted like jam! Wasn't enjoyable. Although, my friends and I ate off the new lunch menu And I'm glad it's slightly cheaper now. Smart move Breakers!

I definitely think people expect to much from this place, i however enjoy it, when you want a normal feed its good, different way of service. I enjoy eating here. Its breakers, not fine dining obviously. It is what it is and I love it!

Horrible. Over priced food and poor staff. I ordered the wedges and bacon, seriously $12?! When it finally come out it was basically a handful of chips with bacon on the top and cheese which looked like R had just been chucked in the microwave! Also they do not provide water in jugs instead you have to take your glass up to a tap and do it there. Do not recommend.
Dianne Bottcher
First and last time...horrified to see the waitress using a clipboard. Food took forever to come to table.

Will not be returning. My daughter's wedges had no sour cream, my steak left a metallic taste in my mouth for the rest of the night. No ice water, have to collect it ourselves from a warm drinking fountain. Overpriced. Not an asset to the Kapiti region. Wonder how long it will continue to trade.
Tom
Have to agree with Danielle. Food was awful. We left most of it. The fish and chips were just swimming in grease.....inedible. The burger I had was the most tasteless I can recall. This is the second time we have been there as a family, the first time was bad also. Had to send the food back to be reheated. Sorry but we won't be back.
Danielle
The only reason I award you one star is that your service wasn't horrible. The food is very bland and looks as if it's all just been frozen and re-heated. We will never return and I sure as heck wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Went to breakers with a party of six and absolutely will be back again as this was the third visit with no complaints! Love your Breakers signature dish.. "chicken Diane" Everything was very tasty and the whole table enjoyed! Thanks!

Went on a Saturday night, it was quite busy. My only complaint is the strange system of going to the counter to order (and the fact that they don't separate the drinks and food lines).

Delicious cheesy garlic bread for a starter, perfect for two and then I had the Kumara Patch Pie which is very yummy. Good portion sizes and though the food took a while due to how busy it was, it was hot and delivered with a smile.

The staff were lovely, frazzled and rushed off their feet but they still took the time to check we were happy and clear the tables. It's rare to get the level of cheerful customer service that we were treated too.

We will definitely be back :)

Went for a meal with my mum. The wait time from order to getting meal was excessive. Mum ordered Breakers burger meat in burger was cold on arrival. I got chicken burger again cold on arrival. Chips were warm it had been sitting a while prior to coming out I think. When asked by a staff member were we enjoying our meals we stated had better the meat and chips were cold on arrival she then started asking questions but nothing came about it. Would not go back in a hurry at all. Pitty Really Was looking forward to it.

I have eaten at this restaurant and will not return for the lack of service and sub standard food.
My profession is a breakfast chef at Mercure Hotel Wellington.
And even I can do better.

It's relatively new so the environment is clean & tidy. The food is standard family diner - not flash but big portions averagely priced. I had the Kahuna Burger - just because I wanted to be able to say I've had a Kahuna Burger (like in Pulp Fiction). But it was disappointing - a very dry piece of battered chicken atop supermarket bought ingredients rather than fresh. The smokey BBQ sauce had soaked into the bun which made it even dryer. It looked impressive but it wasn't. The crinkle cut fries it came with were good though (store bought). I had a shrimp cocktail for an entree - the sauce was very tasty. There was only one waitress on when we went on a weekday, but also only 4 of us in the place. We were seated then told to go back up to the counter to order - as the waitress didn't seem that busy we thought she might have time to take our order at the table. We live in the Hutt Valley so it's not really worth the drive for us to go again.

Friday evening dining, restaurant was not too packed, so we were able to walk in and find a table, always a bonus.
Time from ordering to eating was reasonable and food was hot on arrival.
I had a chicken wrap served with wedges and side green salad, a large serving, but unfortunately the wrap was majorly lacking in flavour. I pulled out the chicken, seasoned it with some s & p and left the soggy wrap. Wedges were nice, hot and crisp, until drowned by the watery, flavourless salsa that leaked from my wrap.
Other meals ordered were the chicken schnitzel, again not great, but you get what you pay for. Looked a little boring and thrown together on the plate.
Cheese burger and chips was reasonable, but nothing the average home cook couldn't whip up at home. Again this meal lacked pizzaz in the presentation.
All in all, the environment is nice, the staff seem courteous and diligent, but food lacks any excitement nor did it leave us with a desire to return.
In saying that, If you are looking for a reasonably priced average meal with a nice family dining experience then this is the place for you.
