Review Fang - Parnell

Very nice experience with dear friend in the good atmosphere of a perfect combination for both Spicy Chuan food and delicate Kiwi style. Good taste, warm service, and even a live DJ on site! Amazing, worth going! Note that 5-star chili rating is quite challenging and please be cautious about ordering it šŸ¤£

As a Sichuan native, Fang is the top-ranked restaurant in Auckland in my heart. The food is delicious, the ambiance is great, and the service is fantastic as well. Today, we hosted a baby gender reveal for our friends. Thanks to the service from Eli and Angelia, we were extremely happy. We will definitely come back again.

Love love love the food at this food haven in Parnell. We definitely enjoyed the great taste and ambiance here at Fang and will be back again for another round of gastronomic pampering.

Donā€™t miss this place tucked away from the Main Street in Parnell. We wish weā€™d found this place earlier in the evening as it was pretty amazing! From the impeccably presented food, comprehensive menu & drinks to die for we were set! We branched out and tried a couple of Asian tequila including the mango fire which actually made me feel like I could breathe actual fire it was insanely exciting but DO NOT take it all in one go or your mouth will burn - I am not kidding! The impeccable red decor fitted the theme & it almost felt like a ninja might appear at any given moment or I might turn into one if Iā€™d any more than of those mango fires!! Highly recommend the ricotta orange donuts dessert which we shared and were melt in your mouth delicious not to mention reasonably priced x

I didnā€™t have breakfast so I could have a big lunch here on first table. The food is delicious ambience is great. There was a dog outside barking from one of the customers - didnā€™t bother me but scared a lot of the Chinese girls in the restaurant. The first table deal is too good to pass. Reluctant to give five stars because I worry will be fully booked after all the good reviews, but I canā€™t lie. Maybe just needs more floor staff for efficiency. Service: 4/5 Presentation: 4/5 Environment: 5/5 Food Quality: 5/5 Food Quantity: 4/5

I had a great time there! Never I can imagine a fusion venue making authentic Chinese food, particularly Sichuan. There are two food menus one is a mixture of east and west, the other one is authentic one. If you love the hit, enjoy the spicy you have to try that authentic menu. One point ā˜ļø You don't need to worry about the calories of the rice as they provide healthy multiple grains of rice. Love it! Definitely come back, Soon!

Fantastic dining experience, everything we have ordere have been amazing, authentic Sichuan flavors as well as lots of non spicy options. The environment is comfortable and relaxing, great for friends and family gathering. We were lucky to be seated at a more private area, service was great, always helpful and efficient. Thank you for the awesome dinner.

The dishes were amazing but Iā€™d say the portion size is a bit small. (Especially the rabbit), also itā€™s very spicy!!! Be aware when you are ordering spicy food because itā€™s legit spicy.

The most incredible dessert for $14! Orange and ricotta donuts. Amazing atmosphere and lovely sharing platters of food being served. Cocktail menu was very different and yummy too.

Ok i firstly need to admit, I'm not easy to please these days, as i find many places just lack in quality service and overall taste and flavour. I'm happy to report this place is really nice. Wonderful friendly service and excellent quality food. We had the twice braised beef, lamb ribs, pan seared beans, chips, money bags and beef dumplings. All dishes were just as they should be. The lamb didn't look that nice but the first bite changed all that with a lovely flame grilled flavor. We'll definitely be back for more.

Authentic Chinese Sichuan food. Absolutely fantastic! Mi Jiao Tu is so spicy šŸŒ¶ļø and flavourful, would be nice to eat with rice. Bo Bo chicken šŸ— is a cold dish and not too spicy, highly recommended. Stir fry eggplant šŸ† is very delicious, but should be deep fried not very healthy. Sweet sour tofu is also nice, I believe white people will like it. Will definitely come back again soon. The price is a little bit high.

I went here a couple of weeks ago with family. The staff was amazing so helpfull and lovely. The food was amazing was genuine and pretty tasty. Reasonably priced as well.

Really lovely restaurant Service is quick and polite. Overall food is good, but feels rather fatty. I had an entrƩe which was quite big (see left of the pic: 4 pieces) and it left some oil staints. Was good though. As main I had the Wagyu beef in Sichuan sauce. The portion was big although much more sauce and veggies, rather than meat, which was only a few pieces. Although it was stated on the menu that is was spicy, it was actually much more than I thought. I was in tears (and I am very used to spicy food)!. I had to add jasmine rice next to it. Red wine from waihke was best.

Hip little Asian fusion restaurant with a nice outdoors area and comfortable indoor sitting. Good food options but if Iā€™m picky then I would say the menu is a bit non-coherent between south-east Asian flavours and western influenced Chinese food. Tasty, but more on their own instead of as a meal. Overall, worth going and a good quiet hang-out, and Iā€™m sure some will really enjoy the experience.
Nathan
The meal and service were both on par. The rabbit hot pot, had too many bones in the meat. Overall, it wasn't too bad.

A fairly new restaurant that specialises in Sichuan cuisine. It is a bit of a mission to find since it is hidden in the back of the building complex. Just look out for the signs, it leads to the side to the restaurant entrance. There were a few tables in the way at the entrance so it was a bit hard to get in. When I asked about a booking they weren't sure about it and fortunately, I spotted my friend. They also made a wrong booking for us, 2 people instead of 4, but it was fixed before I arrived. The menu has a lot of interesting items on it. we tried a few different items. The dressing on the papaya salad was amazing, good enough to have with rice. The same could be said with the chili sauce. I thought that the soft shell crab was the best of the lot since it gave you that mouth-numbing feeling even though it wasn't spicy. The pork belly was also really nice. The dumplings we had, Wagyu with five spice, were ok and the rice was interesting since it was red. I was quite disappointed with the beef shin. It tasted boiled and the flavours were a bit watered down. It was a nice meal and the service was quite good, as we did have to stop them from taking the papaya salad dressing a few times.

It is incredible. You can taste that much Sichuan hot dishes /, feel heat from an Asian fusion restaurant. Very good.

Came here to try after recommendation. We ordered a few of their chef special. The chicken lettuce wrap was absolutely gorgeous and just the right amount of heat. The braised pork tasted good and presented well. The soft shell crab was ok but not spectacular. Overall was a nice meal.

I love Winona and all their other ventures but Fang has missed the mark... not even remotely close to Sichuan cuisine. 4 out of 4 dishes leant towards sweet rather than spicy. Even the wasabi sauce for the Sichuan squid had no kick. Everything was freshly cooked and crispy which was a plus. Only ordered takeaway, canā€™t comment on restaurant ambience etc

Every thing is just, cannot be done better.

When I arrived at the place, I was sat at a small table, despite the whole place being empty (there were soft couches). These pillows looked comfortable, before I heard the smell coming from them (thank you for sitting me somewhere else) Food was over-salted, made me question my choices and if this was to make me get a drink. 4 little dumplings (which I decided to have as a main) did not fill me at all - not a proper dish, should not be listed that way on the menu. Having spent my time and money there - I wasted so much for so little. Only dish worth recognizing was... a drink to wash away the salt (you got me), that I have tried, 10/10 sparkling water. Overall, this place is a copy of a copy, where every meal is the same flavored pepper-salt candy with a different wrapper around it. I need a drink and a proper meal now, hungry...

Not worth the visit.
Went there for a dinner with a friend. Ordered Wagyu dumplings, seafood hotpot, twice-cooked beef rib. To be completely honest, the taste was rather average. And the so-called seafood hotpot & beef rib were rather disappointing. Leaving the mean portion aside, all we could taste from the seafood hotpot was high sodium content, itā€™s way too salty. The beef rib was so overcooked. Would definitely not return or recommend.

Been here twice since itā€™s opening already and each time gets better! Itā€™s a Sichuan-fusion eatery with a retro-punk interior ambience that sets them apart from other eateries. Iā€™ve tasted dishes such as BaiJiu Lamb Ribs, Soft Shell Crab, Pork Belly, Beef Cheek Curry, Pork Sticky Ribs, Whole Fish, Salad and Salmon Cones! Dessert is also beautifully presented and taste very exquisite! I would highly recommend the Baijiu Lamb Ribs, Soft Shell Crab and Pork Sticky Ribs!

The Baijiu Lamb Ribs are best eaten when piping hot so that the oils are juicy and meat falls off the bone. BaiJiu is a traditional Chinese vodka and you can mildly taste it soaked in the lamb! Presentation looks excellent too with Kumara chips and purƩe!

Soft Shell Crab is a MUST when visiting Fang! Fried super crunchy yet light, the sour tangy sauce is what won me over drizzled over the crab! Amazing presentation, black rice charcoal chips looking rustic and unique.

Pork Sticky Ribs is also fingerlickin good, drowned in sweet and sour sticky sauce that makes a perfect appetiser!

Also really love the touch of tiny panda chopsticks holders, since pandas originate from Sichuan in China, a lot of thought has been put into attention to detail! I would visit again!

Food: 10/10
Price: 9/10
Ambience: 10/10
Service; 10/10

Came early on a weekday evening, and the place wasnā€™t very busy. We chose to sit close to the kitchen, and we could smell the amazing food that was coming out of it ā€“ the food smelt so fragrant. The overall theme of the restaurant is so aesthetic and modern, itā€™s like the restaurant has its own backstory. (I lowkey would love for it to be turned into a cartoon/anime).
The Mapo Tofu was fried, which isnā€™t commonly done but it was executed so well. Theē‚ø酱面 (Zha Jiang Mian) were more similar to Dandan Noodles, but they were still delicious. Zhong shui jiao (Dumplings) were amazing, they came in this delicious chilli sauce (I cannot take spice but I suffered through it because it was so good), and asked to keep the chilli sauce for dipping other foods in.

I absolutely loved the drinks! They have a very creative list with well throughout names to match the storyline of the restaurant. I got the baijiu (Chinese White Wine) Cocktail, and it was such a beautiful blue colour (Yu and the Great Flood).

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall made the experience very welcoming.

Last October, an Asian fusion hidden gem arrived in Parnell right behind @winonaforevercafe. Time flies, itā€™s their ONE year birthday now. Thank you @fangyumpunks, for inviting me to this celebration dinner. It was such an incredible dining experience!
Let's start with something sweet since it's their birthday celebration; we got the RICOTTA ORANGE DOUGHNUTS and the VEGAN MANGO PUDDING. Those doughnuts are soft and delicious, especially with that matcha ice cream.šŸ¤¤ And the mango pudding is probably one of the healthiest desserts I've ever come across! GF, DF and vegan-friendly, yet still tasty!šŸ˜
Even though it's an Asian fusion restaurant, Fang aims to bring the taste of real Sichuan food to us. SICHUAN SCAMPI MAPO TOFU is one of my favourites, excellent spice level and super flavourful sauce on crispy tofu definitely added something special to one ordinary Mapo Tofu dish. RICH BRAISED PORK BELLY made me speechless! The pork belly is super tender & moist; it absorbed all flavours during cooking, indeed a MUST-TRY! Those PORK BELLY CHIPS are some finger-licking goodies that you would not want miss out on. Now, my favourite thing about the night is these ā€flowersā€, ROASTED CAULIFLOWER AND BROCCOLI! They look very simple yet taste absolutely divine! Ridiculously flavorful and crunchy!
I don't blame you if youā€™ve never been to Fang Yum Punks since it's quite hidden, but if you are not planning to pay a visit after seeing this, I don't know what will change your mind. šŸ˜…

I loved the food here especially their prawn and scallop dumplings, they're the best I've ever had. Also ordered the soft shell crabs and the seafood hot pot. Both were also good, but I would say was too small for sharing/for the price. Otherwise, very happy though. I'd say you'd have to order quite a few things for the table. The cocktail that I got tasted very much like flowers which I didn't like.

8.5/10

How gorgeous is the restaurant!! From the dark green marbled tables, the cute panda chopstick holders to the adorable outdoor seating area!! The food and drinks are also fairly priced, extensive menu, amazing service.

We got quite a few dishes to share - favourite's were the squid, the ribs and the dumplings. The vegan mango sago was amazing, the coconut chantilly was... šŸ˜

Not a fan of the beef shin, menu said home made chilli oil but the sauce tasted tomato-ey and lacked any real depth of flavour. I was not really a fan of the noodles either, a bit too soft and gluggy.

I'd probably still come back and try some other dishes on the menu!

Fancied something a little different. The chance to have sichuan cuisine and the website encouraged the visit.

We had the Wagyu beef and the Scallop and Prawn Crystal skin dumplings to start. The beef was spicy (we were told beforehand) and was ok, but just that, hot. The Scallop dumpling was very nice but exactly the same as you get at yum cha for 1/3 the price; 4 pieces for $14 is pricey.

We chose Sweet and sour cabbage, sichuan crispy squid, and soft shell crab. The cabbage was fresh, but not traditional sweet and sour, not spicy unless you eat the chillies themselves, but quite good nonetheless. The Crab was very good flavour and texture, but lacking the edamame and peanuts it allegedly came with. The squid was awful. No spice at all (sichuan? ,....no way) and wasabi mayonnaise it came with was just a bowl of aioli. Very poor.We mentioned this to our waitress who after asking the chef informed us it was "asian wasabi mayonnaise". That was an insult to our intelligence I Have lived in Japan and regularly use wasabi at home.

Drink....my friend had a dark craft beer (forgot name as not listed and no bottle) which was tasty and good. I got talked into having a Cisk Pilsner which was bland and like fizzy yellow water.

$120 for all that so not cheap and given the quality not good value.

Service was good until we questioned the supposed wasabi mayonnaise whereupon the waitress packed a sad.

Overall, had a decent meal, just, hence the 3 rating, but despite an enticing food menu, being treated like a fool for questioning a dish and the lack of choice for alcohol beverages (not everyone wants craft beer) we won't going back.

I ordered shrimp dumplings and the grilled veggies, just amazing. The best dumpling I ever had. I just don't give 5 stars because the price is a little bit too much. But definitely it is a must to go in Parnell, the restaurant itself has a beautiful Asian decoration and I really enjoyed the experience.

Fang is hidden down behind winona forever and next to han in parnell

The venue is quite cool with a bar area and kitchen seperated . It has a gorillaz art vibe to it.

The food its absolutely amazing. The wagyu dumplings had so much flavour and are pretty big. Also tried the fried squid which is probably rank 1 in my books now. Finished with bang bang chicken on fried soba. Refreshing!

Will try the cocktails next time

Cute little exotic restaurant hidden away from the the hustle and bustle of the city, it almost felt like a secret spot. The service and food were absolutely impeccable. We ordered the steamed wagyu beef dumplings, bang bang chicken cups & crispy sweet soy pork ribs. Only issue is we wish we had more!!šŸ˜ the dumplings could almost be the best dumplings Iā€™ve ever had!! Highly recommend, 10/10 and will definitely be backšŸ˜Š

My new favourite Asian fusion, itā€™s DELICIOUS!!! Came here with my best friend from England to show her how good NZ food was, and fang yum didnā€™t disappoint.
Loved everything we had, the desserts were Devine , the dumplings delicious, the egg wraps were yum and the salmon cones- out of this world
Very highly recommend

Oh they even custom made us a couple of cocktails! Awesome service

I would give it a 3.5 if I could. The portions are incredibly small for the price. But the flavors are interesting enough and well executed, not necessarily fusion at all, just presented in a fine dining way. Seating and atmosphere is comfortable enough.

We wanted a relaxed dinner in a place with tasty food and a sassy sort of vibe to match, in the mid-range price wise. Fang nailed it. The cocktails were fun. We shared the dishes of food, which you need to do, because it is normal that not everything suits everyone. But we all pretty well loved everything. The range of dishes had something perfect for everyone. Only three desert options but they too were spot on. Good service to boot. Crab claws, duck wraps, bang bang chicken, goat cheese dumplings, scallop prawn dumplings and the deserts will all be our go to the next time we are back.

Awesome food n service! Although itā€™s fusion but still keeps Asian flavour which surprised me! Will come back next monthšŸ˜˜n the cocktail is amazing as well. Highly recommend!!!

This is one good find. Service is top rate. Food is very good but i may ask to put the spices in the side next time. Dumplings were glorious fragrant and yummy. Need to order more. Had an awesome eating experience overall.

We went here for dinner for the evening of Sat 22 June.

Fang is tucked away in the middle of a newish building at 100 Parnell Road. Parking is pretty good that part of Parnell and so once we walked all the way into the depths of the building on the ground floor all was well.

We were seated quickly, and had our waitress come with water and to answer any additional questions promptly. She recommended a number of sharing plates, which was fine by us as we thought that would probably be a good way to go anyway.

We started off with some of the lotus chips which were awesome. We then received a selection of dishes including lamb short ribs, crispy pork ribs (a winner), supposedly very spicy bang bang chicken in lettuce cups (it wasnā€™t that spicy but had a bit of kick and was delicious too),

Crispy squid tentacles were also a popular choice. The kung pao soft shell crab was tasty but a bit small serving wise, and the dumplings all tasty too. The pork belly was average, nothing wrong with it but not a standout. My wife especially liked the slow cooked beef shin.

Service was excellent, food was tasty and interesting, restaurant a little dimly lit but very cool nevertheless (perhaps better for dates than family dining but Iā€™m being picky here). My only quibble is value, itā€™s not bad value for money but it wasnā€™t great value either. If it were slightly cheaper I wouldnā€™t hesitate to score it 5/5. However, that is not a deterrent to me wanting to try the restaurant again, as the Rest of the package was all of a very high standard.

We will be back for sure.

Fang is definitely worth a try, we had lunch there on a Saturday afternoon. The service was good but the staff hovered a lot and we felt rushed with our meal.

We ordered the pork and prawn dumplings (sorry no pic as we ate it too fast), unfortunately didnā€™t like the consistency of the filling. Next was the bang bang chicken, really good but I would have liked the chicken at room temp instead of cold straight from the fridge.

Mains were the lamb ribs and the pork belly, lamb ribs had a batter that I feel should have been crispy but was soggy, might be due to the fattiness of the lamb ribs. The pork belly was delicious, great flavours.

I can see the owner takes so much pride in the food and wants it to be as authentic as possible. Will try it again as I feel we need to try other dishes.

Very tasty food and super efficient service. Love the atmosphere and the whole idea behind this place. A perfect place for a chill night out. Definitely a standout meal was the bang bang chicken which was sooooooo good. We'll be making this a regular dinner place!

Tucked behind Winona Forever is this amazing restaurant. When we arrived we were seated promptly on the upper level which was very comfy. Then came the food....First we tried the lotus chips, crispy ,salty and bit of spice. We wanted more!!The prawn ,scallop dumplings were lacking some flavour whereas the goat cheese dumplings with veges were good. The best was the bang bang chicken on lettuce,Ā wow with the crunch of the nuts and the kick of spice left us wanting more. The soft shell crab looked amazing on the plate .The white sause went amazingly well with the crab. The lamb ribs had flavour just no spice or depth of flavour. If you dont like spice ,then this is a dish to try.The blackbean fried rice ,with edemame, chillies, prawns and onions was just amazing!Paw paw salad lacked a bit of the zing ,just needed a bit more lime juice to lift the flavours.I ventured into the cocktail menu, nothing too exciting.Tried the cocktail with bitter, melon juice, i didnt know what I was thinking!!FinallyĀ finished off with a scrumptious soft chocolate brownie with red bean , hokey pokey and vanilla ice cream..I was impressed with the amazingĀ presentation..What an amazing experience.Ā

Fantastic food and great atmosphere!
The layout and decor of this place is so funky, I love it. Itā€™s nice and spacious and I feel your not sitting so close to the table next to you like a lot of places in Ponsonby.

Me and two friends share the bao bun special, vege and goats cheese dumplings, pork ribs, bang bang chicken cups, roti and the brownie to finish.
All were super delicious! Highlight was the ribs and dipping the roti in the sauce.

Thank you Fang! We will definitely be back :)

Customer service 5 stars
Food 4 stars a bit salty and spicy of course
Location 5 stars private and fancy
Nice place for function
Highly recommend ;)

Really enjoyed our meal at Fang. Definitely will go back.
We had the bang bang chicken, wagyu beef dumplings, chili oil fried fish and braised pork belly. Everything was yum. The bang bang chicken had great flavour but was quite spicy so proceed with caution. The fish was so amazing, we ate every last bit. Iā€™m still dreaming of it now. Pork belly was melt in your mouth soft.
Service was a bit awkward but all the wait staff were friendly and attentive.

Parnellā€™s newest hidden little food gem! Same owners as Winona forever (which I love) Came here for a work Xmas lunch and it lived up to expectations! Had a table out on the patio which was beautiful with the sunlight. Highly recommend the salmon cones, the pork belly chips and the shrimp and scallops dumplings especially but all the food was delicious! Also you must try one of their innovative cocktails like the pink fang, yuzu love me or pop n passion - so cute with the fairy floss! The highlight would have to be the desserts though! We tried all three and they were all as good as eachother but my favourite was the ricotta doughnuts - so light and fluffy and the sesame ice cream was delightful! The panna cotta was also yum! Definitely a trendy spot to try!

Modern restaurant nicely decorated great open kitchen and bar, Fast served by friendly staff.
Foods are yummy as well, highly recommend bang-bang chicken, and tofu.

Had a really great experience here.

We did have to wait awhile as they have accidentally given our seat to someone else that came later than us. However the manager handled it very well and made us feel very comfortable to stay on.

The food was so good! A good combination of fusion and sichuan spice. We were too full to try the dessert but it is definitely on our list next time!

I went to try this place on the 1st day that they open and not disappoint. Food and service very professional. We love grilled prawn and fish dishes here. Taste of fresh and good ingredients. I love to come back again next time

We had the pork ribs, a couple of the dumpling plates, the bang bang chicken and the broccoli/cauliflower.

The pork ribs were good, but sadly everything else was average. The broccoli/cauliflower is a dish to be avoided.

The ambience was great, but we couldnā€™t really enjoy it as our waitress even though Iā€™m sure she meant to be helpful was a bit too intrusive.
