Review Baruhlo - Parnell

Hanna Kim
Had a birthday dinner and the food is just AMAZING. I especially loved their Paella which had fresh seafood, so delicious. Good vibe, lots of parking places in a quiet neighbourhood. Just one thing I want to point out is lack of professional serving. Two of us ordered two tapas as entree and two mains with a side, I was expecting we get food slowly to enjoy these but unfortunately they were all served almost at once which was not very ideal as we had to just jump into the paella as I didn't want to miss that hot paella while we still have a lot left for our entree. Also when we were waiting for our dessert, the server never wipe the table (like veges and fish still on table) until we actually ask for it when dessert was served. Because their food is amazing I would definitely come back but it would be better if servers are more professional.

We had the most delicious dinner, we celebrate our wedding anniversary and was amazing place, great service really friendly, food was amazing, we order 2 Entrees, a main to share and dessert, every single dish was delicious, highly recommend!

-delicious food, easy parking -if you'll order prawns, ask whether they are peeled or full -perfect restaurant if you are on a keto diet -espresso martini too bitter. It needs a little bit more sugar. $20. -portions are good -best among what we got was Ceviche. Might be the best in Auckland. - Reasonably priced mostly. Entrees are around $25, share portions around $45. Lower end of the prestigious restaurants price wise. -octopus was delicious, but it was in one piece and it was served with a spoon as a shared dish. I had to use my knife to cut it which would not be preferable in a work related/business guests etc type of dinner. Negative: it's too loud. In summer it may not be this bad, but a small crowded space, full of people... Suggestion to potential customers: If you'll be with friends, hanging out on a Friday Barulho is great. If you need a more professional environment, you may arrange Faraday Bar (amazing wine selection, impeccable service) which is in front of Barulho and they used to provide food/tapas from Barulho. (I don't know if they still do it. But that's a better environment for business related arrangements)

Had my Mrs Birthday dinner there and it was absolutely wonderful. All dishes are quite delicious and the staffs are pretty humble and welcoming

It's our 31st wedding anniversary, so I went to lunch with my wife, and the food was the best and the staff were very kind.. I'll find it again next time.

We had a work dinner, 11x people so we did the set menu. $85 ea. Totally recommend, this place is outstanding. All dishes are amazing and super generous. Attentive service and a lovely atmosphere for groups. Can't wait to go back asap!!!

Really good Spanish tapas and sharing plates. The ceviche tostada pairing is absolutely delicious! The paella didn’t have much rice in it but flavour and amount of seafood is really good. Scotch fillet with Chimichurri is also a must order. Bombe Alaska for dessert was amazing.

Barulho is one of the best spots to go in Auckland for tapas. Every dish is carefully curated and the menu is so easy to order from, because everything is so good. This is the perfect place to go with one other person or a small group, with the tapas, mains and sides all being perfect for sharing too. The excellent food is matched with fantastic drinks and service too.

One the best Spanish food that I have had. Everything exceeded my expectation and the service was one of the best we had in NZ. Really nice place and a really nice environment. Lots of parking near the restaurant as well.

To be honest, I like the environment more than the food~lol…. My friend highly recommended this place, it’s quite nice! 5 star service 👍

Probably the best kept secret in Parnell! Have been multiple times and have never had a bad meal. Food is super high quality, fast and friendly service, great cocktails and atmosphere. The goats cheese is the best I have ever had!

I just popped by for a beer and some snacks with a mate and was blown away by how good the bread with honey and cheese was. Definitely coming back to try the full menu

What a great place! The food is soooooo good - do yourself a favour and try the brussel sprouts, they are absolute magic. The atmosphere was excellent and the service was A1. Cannot recommend this place highly enough; already looking forward to going back.

Ordered the heat and eat through lockdown. It was our 20th wedding anniversary. Food was sensational - Baruhlo has been a favourite for a while and this meal did not disappoint. Make sure you try it you will not be disappointed. Thanks guys

I had this place highly recommended to me by a friend and after this experience, I'm going to start listening to them more.

Service was super friendly and the perfect level of attentiveness. The food was amazing. Some people may say bread is bread, but to them, great bread can lift your spirits. The wood fired bread with the tomato butter is on a whole nother level. Cannot recommend it highly enough. The burrata plate, fried chicken and pork milanaise were also notable standouts.

We've been to this restaurant twice now - first time in response to Kim Knight's splendid review. Things I immediately did not like (either time) was the very heavy entry door which makes the place seem perhaps closed - and the uncomfortably low seats (not good for those with back problems anyhow).
The first time we went, about 3 weeks ago, it was superb and particularly so the custard tart dessert .... we are not particularly into desserts.
The second time it was not nearly as good. Meatballs far too dense and seemed slightly undercooked although the sauce was excellent. Prawn & gnocchi dish was very good though. We ordered the custard tart again simply because it had been so good last time - a mistake. Custard was undercooked, pastry too salty, banana sat limply on the plate looking defeated.
We were delighted to see this place walking distance from home but if it deteriorates further it will be very sad indeed. Do hope it was just an Off Day!
I made a booking for 6.30pm for a celebration after COVID-19 lock down and they assumed after not seeing everyone for months that we would be done in 2 hours. Understandable for a small group but we booked the private dining space. Food was good though.

I liked that the food was shared so we got to have a taste of everything we ordered, it was also a very communal setting. Very nice if you want a nice little dinner date with someone

We popped into Barulho on the recommendation of someone we meet earlier in the evening. This is a very cramped, noisy Spanish restaurant which given the tapas styled menu suits the place.

We had the ceviche (divine and the dish of the night) followed by smoky braised brisket empanadas (great), Brussels Sprouts done with sherry raisins (brilliant), meat balls (okay) and prawns (not so great).

They sold Spanish, Portuguese and Argentinian wine by the glass, so we tried a couple of those.

We finished with the apple desert (very tasty).

Service was friendly and very efficient.

Total bill $177 for two.

We will be back.

Went toBaruhlo as an advertised special dish as part of Akld elemental was a smoked duck and kumara mash in a pear-shaped form which looked great in the colour pic. Unfortunately, it had ordinary potatoe, not kumara, and I couldnt tell whether the minimalist specs of meat were duck, smoked or not, or any other form of animal.

When I mentioned this on paying, the woman chef said: "We'll look into that.... Look into it ? They produced the damn food for God-sake.

Just to cap off a very expensive and ordinary meal, the Alfajor biscuit - a favourite of my South American wife - was a sickly sweet concoction bearing no resemblance whatsoever to the real thing in her homeland and other South American countries.

Absolutely love Barulho. Have just returned for the second time in just over a week. The food is expertly put together and the flavours are really delicious. Every time we go we are licking the plates clean! We had the coxinhas - by far the best in New Zealand (as judged by a Brazilian too!), the prawns - with a gorgeous saffron sauce and the lamb meatballs- paired excellently with smoky eggplant. The staff are very friendly and cozy surrounds. Can't rate this place highly enough.

This place is super cute and the food/drink options are fantastic! I wouldn’t recommend for groups larger than four because it’s quite a small, intimate place. Other than that it’s great, I would recommend the meatballs and the fried chicken

Great little Spanish themed spot in Parnell.
Well priced tapas options at only $5 or small plates and mains as options as well.
Friendly staff, not pushy and know what they’re doing
Nicely situated to grab the sun and have a beer under the umbrellas

Tastiest food as always. Lovely setting and very welcoming staff. A firm favourite of ours. The tapas are all hand made with love and care. Great wine list and the best negronis!

This is a delicious restaurant, with amazing food, delicious tapas, and the bread which comes as slices of heaven. Really a must, with a true european taste. BTW, the bread is the most similar to real Portuguese bread we've seen so far :)

Average service. Ordered the market fish with clams in tomato broth. But it was just a soup with clams and 2 prawns. And a tiny piece of fish. I told the waitress and she just said "oh yeah I thought the same too" and walked off. So yeah. My friends had some nice dishes but shame about mine and also the service. Personally won't go back. And I don't recommend anyone order the fish!

We really enjoyed dining al fresco here, the service was really genuine and caring they even saved us a heater. The shared platters were great with lots of little things to try the brioche was delish. We tried a few of their main dishes as well and they were all lovely seasoned with great flavors, pork ragu, beets with haloumi and the fish with asparagus great to see in season vege on the menu. Yum! Totally coming back!

Yummy and great value. Small intimate and would be lovely to sit out in the summer.
Lovely staff very accommodating. One of the better tapas bars

The three of us came in on a cold Friday night. Still donning our activewear from a Yoga session and looking for a quick dinner fix, we'd decided to try the new local. We were greeted straight away and very quickly made up an outdoor table complete with gas heater. They'd evidently had a busy night as the daily tapas specials had run out. Never to fear though as they managed to pull together a new range of options on the fly. We ordered a black bean quesadilla, prawn bruschetta and a haloumi number with delicious toasted bread. One of the party has a nut allergy so the chefs were accomodating enough to make up a seperate dish of nut free goodies for our allergic comrade. Though we were not drinking alcohol this particular eve, the menu sported an impressive list of quaint cocktails and wine for all occasions. The highlight of the night for me was the conversation we shared with our waiter (who could have also been the owner, we weren't sure), around the beauty of simple ingredients cooked from scratch and given the care they deserved. A passion that was certainly reflected in the dishes served.
Needless to say, we were very impressed. The food, the accomodating service and even the industrial decor - reminiscent of a busy Lisbon street cafe - are all reasons alone to be back. A definite recommendation from us, the Activewearers ;)

Fantastic little find in Parnell. Love the industrial space and gorgeous decor. The food is incredible, we tried every one of the tapas on the menu - BBQ pork belly skewer, smoked beef and mushroom empanada, market fish ceviche, leek croquette, coconut fried chicken. All were delicious but the empanada and ceviche were the best. Great wine list too. Can't wait to come back for dinner!

Wow. Yes it's a small (think intimate) space with indoor and outdoor tables. Really friendly and knowledgeable owners with a passion for food which shows in their dishes - and great service from the team. We had all of the daily tapas (merguez, cockles, stuffed peppers and mini beef tacos) which were yummy and a prawn main that had a slight SE Asian bent that was soooo tasty. We asked where the prawns were from (because in NZ our access to good prawns is terrible). They fly them in fresh from Aussie and you can definitely tell - terrific. This seems to reflect the way the approach food and flavours. Also a fab pisco sour (though I could have really done with a jug of it) and a glass of vino. A small tasty find that we will be visiting quite often I suspect - and also pretty good value too. If only it was just around the corner from us - but then I would never leave and you can't have everything!
