Was a bit of a chance dinner, popped in on Wednesday night. Loved the food, there are large portions, enough to take some leftovers home.

Very nice Chinese takeaways. Less than 20 mins from order to receiving the food. Pricing is very reasonable. The spring rolls are fantastic and the kids love the steam pork buns. Restaurant area is nicely furnished, cozy and intimate. Again the food comes quickly and is very nice. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Nothing too unusual with the menu, yet it is all done very well. If there is four or more then the banquet is great value for money.

Food great need to double check some of their orders wen serving

Food was delicious, surprisingly the garlic bok choy was a highlight even though it's just bok choy haha.

Some of the best chinese takeout i've had in a long time, I don't normally like fried rice.. but this was something else. Mee goreng was top tier and actually had some heat. Sweet & Sour pork was brilliant and not too greasy. 5/5.

Nice place to go and the food always so delicious!

Really great food and affordable too!

As always great meal! Not sure why others feel itā€™s not great? In the 9 years of visiting itā€™s been pretty consistent. Ordered a vegetarian bami goreng for the first time and wow what a taste explosion! Iā€™m not vegetarian but often eat with people who are, first choice staff as long as you make it clear (no meat) are happy to oblige.

Always enjoy a good feed from this place. Decent food with decent prices. The hot plates are the way to go, ideal place for a group of friends or even as a date night.

THE BEST SWEET AND SOUR FISH IS SERVED HERE!

You honestly have to try it! The place is great, the service is great too.

Pro tip: always remember to make a booking, the place is always packed

Their Fried Rice is one of the best things you can eat here itā€™s just delicious any type of fried rice too.
The Deep Fried Dim Sims are the total best! In my opinion The egg fu yung isnā€™t that to but it is still eatable. ā€œ The Chicken Satay On Hot Plate ā€œ Is a meal worth its wait and worth the price it is the greatest lot of chicken I have had!

I come here for the Pad Thai only - very big and filling too. Steam dumplings here are the best. These two dishes are my faves and is just simply delicious.

Bad. Had the steam fish. No flavour just what I hope was actually fish with no taste just oil drizzled on top with some chilli and spring onion. One piece of "fish" had black spots on it and I had a taste of mould so really hoping it doesn't come back up. Partner had the Mi Goreng and was not impressed with that either. Service was good but when I asked where the fish was from I got a vague response about it not being local. Will not be going back.

*Picture doesn't do them justice as this is as far as I got with the meal and doesn't look how it was when I got it.

We seem to come here for our family gatherings at birthdays. Twice now we have shown up as a fairly large group of 12, and not only been seated fast, but the food arrived in record time! We ordered 2 dishes each and shared them with lazy Susan in the middle! First choice never fails to impress me nor my family and for the amount of food and great service you get, itā€™s no wonder why are always so busy. The staff here are lovely also!

It was average. Service was ok, but the food...was really average! I was really looking forward to the squid, but it fell short...over fried. The salt and pepper chicken (chef recommendation) was a disappointment; was overly battered up that it had a hard casing when it got to us. The fish was delicious! They we're very busy and full for a Tuesday evening.

Prices seemed pretty reasonable, the food soon made it obvious why, very poor food, not somewhere I'll dine ever again.
Staff seemed totally disinterested
This used to be our favourite place until we went there about a month ago. A group of us went there for lunch one Friday. The waitress that served us was very rude and lack customer service. the price is reasonable but the food standard has dropped.

First choice, it should be called last choice, because this is the last time I will ever go there. I'll start with a good point, the only good point, the waitress was lovely, kudos to her, service with a smile they always say. I ordered a special soup where she went out of her way to exclude ingredients which I can't eat (vegetarian here). But then it really went downhill from there. Ordered an item off chefs recommendations, stuffed fried eggplant, was pretty excited. Got my soup as a small, now when one says small one pictures a normal sized bowl.......boy was my flame extinguished fast, this bowl was the size of a teacup.....cause that was going to fill me up, $4 worth whatever...... I can get a whole burger for less than that. Then waited and waited 20 mins later finally received my stuffed fried eggplant, super excited I delved in, unbeknownst to me the, quotation word, "stuffed" was pork, PORK!! what the heck!! vegetarian, VEGETARIAN! i reiterated at least 10 times that I cannot eat meat, I....can NOT eat meat. If this was America I would sue them faster than you can blink, however, I am not, so I at least wanted my measly $4 meal on the house, its the least they could do, they served me meat, and I took a bite out of that, if I ate that pork I would have been rope-able. Ā Totally unapologetic, made me pay, never going there again, in fact, if you have any specific food you cannot eat do not go there, I am saving your life, your morals and your time. If they could better train their staff and make them more knowledgeable of the menu that would be great too. One star cause the waitress was nice, all the rest of the stars.....well they stayed in the sky, where they should be.

If you're after a quick, cheap and cheerful Asian meal, you can't go past First Choice in Petone. Three of us had a very early dinner before a concert this weekend. We had large servings of orange beef, nasi goreng and yummy crispy pork. Great flavours and huge portion sizes. Other meals we've had here have been big enough to take home leftovers. The service and decor are not much to write home about but it's the food we keep coming back for. With three main courses and corkage for $39, you can't really go wrong.

One of the reasonably priced Chinese restaurant on Jackson street. We had 4 dishes including a big bowl of soup and it came to around $50. Good food and will definitely visit again.

We tried this place for the first time and we will definitely be back! The customer service was excellent. The food was superb. The portions are so generous considering the price. If you're looking for a reasonably priced restaurant down Jackson Street check this place out. It cost us $47 for two people, including two mains, 2 appetisers and 2 cokes.

This place is a family favourite! Perfect for a cheap and hungry night out. All the food tastes fresh and usually well cooked, service is fantastic and the food comes out relatively fast. $50 for our little family and we're all full, and I can eat a lot too! Stuffed mushrooms and chicken and corn soup are among the regular starters. Fried rice is delicious, we've tried a lot of the other dishes and they're all very nice. Favourites are the spicy peanut chicken andĀ salt and pepper squid. Never a let down coming to first choice!

My friends and I went there for lunch today, both of them had stomachache and diarrhea after that. The starter I ordered is acescent, they replaced it with an another spoiled dish. The rice I had is just a normal
Chinese food, which made me feel sick the whole afternoon! So disgusting!

This is a funny place, the food isn't what you would call authentic but is still good. I would liken it to chip shop Chinese in a restaurant environment. When we have been we have enjoyed eating in a group of people and sharing lots of dishes. The cumin lamb has been a favourite. When eating in here there is a real mixed bunch of people. Some eat Chinese and others steak, egg and chips. You can even get a slice of white buttered bread.I wouldn't go here for the real Chinese deal but more the Western idea of what Chinese food is. It is good food.

We have been here a number of times now over the last year. Ā First choice is definitely good value for money and the food is great.
Service is always speedy, even when they're busy.
A Beef scotch fillet, 2 fried eggs, salad, 2 slices of bread and butter for under $20! Ā Fantastic, and the chef always cooks the steak to my liking :)
We are always very happy, satisfied customers :)

after recently trying this place out on a friend's suggestion we have become regulars. Big fans of the steamed pork buns and my favourite is the beef in black bean sauce (delicious fresh veggies and tender beef). The fried dumplings areĀ also exceptionally delicious.Ā First Choice is reasonably priced and food comes out nice and quickly.Ā The restaurant is in a handy location on Jackson St and is great as a quick meal before my weekly quiz night down the road.

Yummy entree of roti with satay sauce!! yum. My meal was hot and good, my partners was a little average.

Have been eating there on a regular basis for last 10yrs and the standard of food and service has always been excellent. Both the Chinese and non-Chinese dishes are of a very high standard, and the staff are attentive, without being over-bearing. Would recommend this establishment to anyone.

This is a really great combination of good food, service and reasonable prices. Love the hot and sour soup.
MNM
Food and service ok. Fairly inexpensive.
Have had some disappointed with gluey soup and not quite heated through meals.
