Review Cockles Seafood Bistro & Bar - Picton

Staying at the hostel next door, we decided to go for dinner at Cockles. We sat down at the terrace, and enjoyed an amazing Salmon Pate, Beers buttered blue cod and green lip mussels. Besides the food being really good, service was great. If you are looking for a nice place to have a chilled and tasty sea meal, I would definitely recommend it.

The food is absolutely delicious. The best seafood dish I have had in the 2 years being on the south island. Totally recommend people to come and experience the taste bud sensations on the menu. We are definitely coming back here again. Great service, value for money meals and a taste sensation. Also worth saying is there are alternative meals too. Give them a call.

We had the sphagetthi vandole which was amazing, wish it had more pasta in it for the price but the number of shellfish on top made up for it. Service was great, no problems there and the restaurant was well decorated as well. I personally liked the baked fish but it's a bit filling for a starter. Obviously we had to try the muscle platter, we went all in on green lip muscles!

I went in for a pint while waiting for the ferry. initially I wasn't expecting too much in terms of food, figured it would be just your average pub quality. Boy i was wrong. Ended up with the best fish and chips I've had in years 👍

Great little restaurant, staff very attentive. Ordered the seafood platter which was just enough to leave you feeling content not sickly from trying to get through too much food, so serving size just right for two. A big plus was there was nothing deep fried, just fresh seafood.

Great little pub in Picton. We sat in the courtyard and loved the Salmon pate (recommended by Amy one of the super helpful friendly staff). Great place to relax between jumping off the Cogar Line while waiting for the inter Islander.

Awesome friendly owners, service is outstanding and the food amazing!! Shrimp cocktail was delicious and took me back to my childhood!! The Fresh Fish of Day Blue Cod was mouth watering with a beautiful crispy homemade batter!! Will defiantly be coming back for more tasty delights😀

Great service from the local girl, hopefully she's back after having her baby! Highly recommend the seafood chowder (although they have a great menu to choose from) and a jug of your favourite beer. The beer tasting selection is a great option top for those on holiday. Great price for 4 glasses from a broad range of local and other beers

This place is such a warm and inviting location, I highly recommend you come here while visiting Picton. I'm not sure if it was the owner or what but the guy that greater us and ran though the specials for us really made the visit great.

Leanne and I were looking for something honest that represented the area. Cockles didnt disappoint with a great menu both from the bar and the kitchen. We found the food to be of good quality and complimented by skilled cooking. As well as being well priced, the owners took part in the business and took time with us as customers. Great service, good local food and beverage - exactly what we were looking for in Picton. Thanks.

We stopped at cockles waiting for the coastal pacific train. Surprisingly in the 2 weeks we have been in NZ, this place has the best mussel and possibly the best fish and chips we've tasted during our trip. Would definitely come back.

Although we are tourists, my Dad and I were treated as if we were locals. Great food, fresh seafood and fast efficient staff that are very friendly from the start. Definitely worth the visit; especially if you are looking for the best seafood in Picton (I recommend the Seafood Chowder!). Plus thanks to the owner of Aldan Lodge Motel for the recommendation of the restaurant!

Great place for seafood in Picton. We had the green-lipped mussels, catch of the day as fish & chips as well as in an omelette, all of which were excellent. The desserts we had, chocolate brownie and lime cheesecake, were fabulous as well. The staff were very friendly, so I can only recommend Cockles Kitchen & Bar.

Really nice place to eat. They catered for my wife who is vegetarian. I had oysters natural to start and they were lovely and fresh, followed by spaghetti vongalay made with green shelled mussels and three types of clams. Would recommend this place to all sea food lovers
