Review The Portsider - Port Chalmers

Great range of unusual beers. We shared bittebullen to start and the spring onion and pea were light, fresh and flavourful. I had rump steak with peppercorn sauce and the best onion rings, slices really. Excellent value and service.

We hadn’t been to the Portsider in a couple of years due to being overseas. It’s still wonderful and the food was delicious. My wife had the risotto which she said was delectable and I had the Salmon filet which was expertly cooked! The vibe of the establishment is warm and inviting. We can’t wait to come back.

The food, beers and service is top tier. Pip and Hans do an amazing job. Pip nails service every time, she's a health of knowledge on the food and drinks they serve. Hans food is incredible.

A excellent pub/restaurant in Port Chamler, the vibe was brillant and relaxed, felt very cozy. The staff were super friendly and helpful, a great range of beverages on tap and a good selection of wine. The food was brilliant, super tasty and filling! Highly recommend going to if in the port area or even in Dunedin, worth the drive!

It was an extremely unpleasant experience here. The service was slow, a waitress was very rude. The worst thing was that the cutlery was dirty; when l asked for a change, the waitress did not seem happy. My family decided to leave this restaurant straight away becuase of the poor customer service.

Fantastic restaurant at the most amazing place in New Zealand near Dunedin. We use to go here every two months as I ur ship use to berth at port Chalmers.
The food is yummy and fresh.
Try out the different beers available here.
Nice ambience and awesome weather.

Loved it! Fantastic food - had the bitterballen to start which was great, really tasty and filled with flavour. Had the sole fillet as a main which was cooked to perfection. My friend had the duck which looked amazing as well. The prices were so reasonable, especially compared to a pub meal I had later in the week which was much more expensive and not nearly as good. As well as the craft beers they also have lovely wine, which is not always the case in craft-y beer places. The staff were super friendly and efficient and the whole experience was just really good. Wished I lived there so I could go all the time.

The Portsider is a special place. It is sort of our local so consider this a biased review if you wish but have it be known that we are exceptionally fussy and hard to please. There are alternating craft beers on tap and always a knowledgeable response to questions and a taste of new beers on offer. Food is always top quality and the seafood exemplifies the best that the region has to offer. Have a seat at the bar with the regulars they will help you choose something tasty - not hard to do!

Great atmosphere (warm cosy wood fire) and the food there is superb. Wednesday night was 'Steak Night' and it was 'melt in your mouth' steak. Very good selection of boutique beers. Have been a couple of times and the food has been consistently good and friendly staff. My new regular stop-off when traveling from Chch to Dunedin (via Port Chalmers).

We visited this establishment on the 27th of Feb 2014 and were totally disgusted with the attitude of the waitress, when we commented on the fact that we couldn't eat the crosstini because it was too hard (frightened that it would break a tooth) the waitresses response was "That is how it is" when we asked if they had something else, like crackers to go with the humus she reluctantly said I will see if I can get some bread. Not impressed we walked after paying for it. Worst experience we had in 2 weeks in the Dunedin area.
