Review Lone Star Pukekohe - Pukekohe

Kamit Prakash
Excellent place with truly great food and great service. Great atmosphere. Unlike the other Lonestars this one is actually quiet so you can hear yourself speak. Parking wasn't an issue and the food was truly amazing. Service was the best I've come across. Keep up the good work. Will definitely come back.

Great experience again. Good to see professional service & environment is back. Meal was great, checked out the neighbours meals and the pork looked great. Super cold steinlager is delish. Meals are 2 beautifully cooked steaks and one chicken fillet.... Yum yum, well done chef! We like to go there to watch the rugby

A lovely family friendly cafe. We ordered lamb and pork rib. The lamb was good. The pork rib was more a dish for drinking, a little too hard for young kids.

Got in early, seated and menu'd, drinks ordered and received quickly. Got our meals within 15 minutes. Never had a bad time at Lone Star, food is amazing every time! Couldn't remember our waiter's name but he was great, friendly and efficient! Thanks Pukekohe Lone Star ๐Ÿ’œ

We love Lone Star and this one was great too. Nice and friendly wait staff and quite quick service. The food came quick and was delicious. Will be back when we're next in Pukekohe.

Great outside courtyard atmosphere, fireplace for those cold Auckland nights, watched the League Finals on the tv above fireplace, great service by the bar and waitress team ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Although it took a while to receive my drink, it was totally justified because they were really busy and the "Dolly Parton" was well worth the wait. My friends had Mango margaritas or martinis. Thanks team.

Extremely good food and service.. will be back for sure..

Thank you Team for the Awesome Experience, we booked my uncles birthday here for 20 people, the staff are very friendly and chef is on point. Yummy food and warm welcoming environment. Music is great! Thank you Beth and Team. We will be back. 10 stars from me.

It was great food. The staff were great when it came to bringing out the birthday cake. It was a group of staff came over carrying the cake and singing the happy birthday song that was really lovely I've never seen that before keep it up. The only bad thing is we booked a table for 7pm but we had to wait over an hour to get a table and that was in the bar part. If we hadn't of taken a b/cake in we would of gone somewhere else.

Six of us came to the restaurant without a booking. The restaurant was full so we were given the option to go into the bar to a booth, which was great. The food was absolutely brilliant (and the coffee was beautiful) - we could not fault it in any way whatsoever. The waitress was excellent!!! We will definitely be returning. Thank you.๐Ÿ˜Š

Loved our meals. Bit loud when we arrived but when seated, found it was fine. Little expensive but not something we do often. Very enjoyable. Thank you & like to commend the chef/s. Delicious.

We came here on a Monday night for mum's birthday and the place was surprisingly busy which is a good sign (lucky we booked).<br/><br/>This has to be one of the best Lone star franchise in the country, great atmosphere, warm and welcoming.<br/><br/>Ella who looked after us for the night was very friendly and helpful. Drinks arrived quickly. We ordered prawn starter, delicious, garlicky and hearty. Mum had the lamb which she enjoyed it very much. It was tender, well balanced and the mash was creamy and delicious. Lone Star ribs never failed to delight us, it's always the highlight. Both dad and I ordered steak, dad's sirloin was a bit chewie and the fat wasn't rendered properly, which is a bit disappointed. My fillet was nicely aged and I enjoyed the red wine jus and the potato rosti..<br/><br/>Overall we had a really good night, and it's glad to be supporting the local business. Keep up the good work guys!

Had a cup of hot chocolate late in the afternoon.ย  It was very good one.ย  The staff was very attentive.ย  The music was beautiful.ย  I could have been sitting there for the whole evening.......

The service was great and the food is consistently good. You know what you are going to get - really enjoyed the Milky Bar Pud. We had booked a table but we had to wait 25 minutes for it - which was the only let down, but was the first time that had happened. Definitely value for money!

My son and I decided to eat here last night. There was a private event going on in the bar which was fine as we wanted to eat in the restaurant. We were presented our menus quickly and didn't take long to decide what we wanted.<br/>I chose the vegetarian nachos and my son had the chicken burger.<br/>The reason I am marking down is the long wait for food. I know they were busy but had to ask the waitress when she came to our table if we were okay. I asked when the food would be. In all we waited around 35 minutes for food. The restaurant wasn't too busy but maybe they were busy looking after the private event? The veggie nachos were odd. Carrot (semi hard) was in amongst the sparse sauce. I would have preferred maybe a bean mix rather than root vegetables.<br/>My son did enjoy his burger thankfully.<br/>The nacho chips were sadly on the oily side too. Portion was generous but maybe more of the filling than the chips.

We eat here regularly and never once have we been disappointed. Always friendly service, beautifully cooked steak and a great range of food to choose from. We have travelled all around NZ in the past few years and still think Lone Star Pukekohe does the best steaks.

Iโ€™ve been here twice and both times my food was undercooked or highly over cooked. I was really disappointed because Lone Star Manukau was a lot better.

Food here was good, we started with the Lone Star Loaf, it was nice and the loaf was crusty and warm just how it should be. I had the Maverick fillet and it was cooked nicely. My boyfriend had the ribs, he said they were also very good. The service was good, the only things that I could fault would be that the atmosphere was very loud but that should be expected on a Saturday. And that the food although good is slightly overpriced

Food was great! And the margaritas were amazing! Would definitely go back. Would be five stars but just a tad on the expensive side but the portion sizes are massive. Also the staff seemed a little bewildered Once our waiter went home it became apparent no one really knew who was meant to be serving our table so seemed a bit unorganised. Otherwise was a good night

Went here not long ago and was terrible! I ordered the Caeser salad which was dry and barely had any thing other than lettuce. What a total rip off. Waiter was nice but took me 20 mins to get a glass of water and had to ask twice for knives and forks. Will never return.

Probably the least liked Lone star ive been to so far!!! <br/><br/>Not terrible, it is good but not great. Stand by your lamb is always really good! But ribs are not up to the standards as every other lone star. Steak was really dry, and the pork hog was ok but not the best. <br/>

Its kinda become my goal to visit all lone stars throughout NZ. <br/>So went here on a Saturday night for dinner. The place had a very sauve vibe to it. The energetic and the calmness is separated by two areas namely the bar and the restaurant. The food is as amazing as any lone star I have been to. The only thing worth mentioning is that they should start rotating/changing their menu. <br/><br/>In the pics:<br/>Gin and tonic<br/>Guinness <br/>Cesar salad<br/>Dixie chicken<br/>Banofee pie <br/><br/>Pricewise: $70 for 2<br/>Returns: Double tap on that

Pretty much always my go to when I'm in pukekohe because I haven't found many other good food restaurants like this one! There is lots of space inside, the first few times I came was for lunch so we were seated in the bar area which is much nicer than the General restaurant floor space where they seat you for dinner. Been here over half a dozen times, meals and always very yummy! I always grab something with steak but my partner's tried almost everything on the menu! Price is always expensive, but I suppose you pay for what you get. Meals are huge! Staff are usually pretty friendly too!! :)))))

Great place. The kids loved it.<br/><br/>I had the Nachos and they were particularly good. I would have preferred a little more heat, but i suppose this is a personal preference sort of thing.<br/><br/>The steak fries are quite good.

Went on Sat after visiting the Pukekohe Farmers Market, nice ambience, friendly staff. Ordered vegetarian dishes, happy with quality apart from the quantity provided. Felt price was on higher side. Ordered Martini, glass size was too small for the price. Anyways happy with overall experience.

This would be the second time we have visited Lone Star in Pukekohe and am pleased to say it has been a great experience once again. A gentleman by the name of Ryan served us. His service was exceptional, very polite and humorous. We had the chicken nibbles for our entree, I could have eaten them all by myself THEY WERE DELICIOUS! For main we had the Cajun chicken and The Johnny Cash stash which were both nice. For dessert I could not go past the Milky Bar pudding it was delicious! We will be back for sure.

Worst meal I've had in recent years, not up to the lone star standard. I ordered the sirloin medium rare with jack daniels & pepper sauce. When it finally came out, the steak was dry and tasteless (past well done) and they served the wrong sauce with it. My wifes burrito was served cold. For the price you pay, you are better off going to Bazzas - they never disappoint.

It was really interesting reading past reviews of this Loan Star as the negative feedback wasn't at all what we experienced. It wasn't our first visit here either & although some visits have had small issues, there was certainly nothing to stop us coming back.<br/>If I'm picky water wasn't topped up & they ran out of Baileys, but I'd hardly call these deal breakers as these things happen & they were more than happy to help with anything we asked for (we should have just asked for water).<br/>Firstly service - we were warmly greeted at the door & decided to wait in the bar for other friends to arrive. One of the bar staff (I think his name was Zac? He ended up being our waiter as well) was friendly, funny & engaging - just the right amount of cheeky banter.<br/>When our friends arrived we decided to stay in one of the bar booths a bit longer, and then Zac said we were welcome to stay & eat dinner there too as he'd look after us - we were comfy so took up his offer.<br/>We started with the cob loaf which is always delicious - served warm & soft on the inside & crusty on the outside. It comes with garlic & herb butter. You slice it yourself so can get around 5 chunky slices.<br/>For mains we had the chicken burrito - very large serving & went down well. The ribs - again very large serve coming with crispy potatoes & salad underneath. Ribs are sticky with the right amount of meat & marinade. Lamb shanks & steak with blue cheese (cooked medium - maybe slightly over but not so much to be a problem). We enjoyed everything - certainly no complaints & good value. Some of their meals come in a 3/4 size which is a well worthwhile option too.<br/>Desserts wise we had a birthday at our table so Zac bought out a Pavlova tower with a lit candle - a nice touch with the happy birthday song too! This was very soft & marshmallow like. Also the Banoffee pie to share which was nice - chunky fresh banana & a thick toffee. The Moro bar cheesecake (longhorn) is a delicious option too (normally our go-to dessert).<br/>So a great night - made even better with great service. Will be back for sure.

Went to Lone Star for a family farewell and had organised a surprise birthday cake for my partner who also came. We waited about 2 hours to receive our lukewarm food. Because we had organised a cake to arrive at the table afterwards we understood that this would possibly be a long wait. After we had eaten had our dinner we were told by the waitress that our cake wasn't ready due to the fact that a bigger table that arrived later than us had ordered a cake also and for some unprofessional reason they were given priority. I personally will never visit this restaurant again due to poor quality food, unprofessional service and a massive let down to a special day.

Credit where credit is due! I travel the length of the North Island and always look forward to heading to Lone Star Pukekohe when in town! .. Fabulous efficient friendly team...generous portions of tasty, well prepared meals! Looking forward to my calamari there this Friday, the best! A great place to catch up with friends, the perfect place for a family outing too... and love the outdoor/bar area Thank you Jason and Alofa - you have a business to be proud of!

Food was overcooked and underseasoned. First time was not bad but this visit has put us off. Prices didn't match the quality. Service from our host was great though.

I've always loved this place but last night's experience has put me off. The food chicken nibbles were cold and dry. My steak seemed as if it had been defrosted in a microwave because there was no juice or moisture, so of course no taste to it. Can't explain it but I'm not sure I've ever had a steak like that. I wonder if they have a new chef, because like I said, this place was always my favourite....until now.

Visited here recently on a quiet Monday night, although have been previously when it has been much busier. The staff were really friendly and enthusiastic (as per usual), and we got seated in a nice little booth. We ordered the entree Ribs, Lamb Shanks, Johnny Cash Stash, Maverick Eye Fillet and a side of Chips. The ribs were juicy and well flavoured with a lot of meat, the lamb shanks were deliciously slow cooked with a very tasty gravy, the chicken (which I have had before) was just as good as I remembered - really nice filling topped with a delicious mushroom sauce, served with crunchy potatoes and a really nice coleslaw salad - and also was a very generous size. The eye fillet was cooked perfectly and the potato bake side it came with was really soft and tasty, and also loved the rich jus. Would only have been improved with a few more vegies on the side. The chips were a standout - golden and really crunchy. I'll be back again for more delicious meals :)

Visited with a group for a birthday. We had a listing and arrived before it got too busy, so we managed to get a good table. The young waitress was friendly enough, but rattled off the specials far too quickly for any of us to keep up. She also didn't ask if we wanted entrees, she just took the mains orders straight away. All the meals came out at various times over the course of 40 mins, so some of us were close to finished when others were only getting started. To add insult to injury, the birthday person got their meal last. One of the group almost choked on his 'medium' steak which was like boot leather. Desserts were OK, but nothing to write home about. Portion size is stingy compared to other Lone Stars. Overall it was a mixed experience for our group. Manukau is still our preferred Lone Star, despite being further to travel.

We walked in to be greeted by lovely staff. I was in a coat however it was still very cold inside despite the restaurant being really full. We had our trainee waiter do the speech and over specials etc. All was great despite him forgetting the importance of giving the table water, it was busy however the waiter we had was quite new and didn't understand the importance of attending to his tables needs. We weren't told that the wait would be 45minutes for our food so when we eventually were delivered it we were super hungry! The food was OK. I ordered fish and chips - the chips cold and the fish soggy. Person 2 ordered the ribs, no complaints they were great. Person 3 and 4 got steak and spuds - their meals came out last and were both warm - not hot. The steak was overlooked on one plate and under cooked on the other and very chewy, not what you'd expect for the price. When complaining at the unsatisfied meals we had, the staff didn't care and gave us a card to contact management - unpractical and bad service. Overall I felt as though it was a really average experience that was overpriced wouldn't go back.

The service was great and so was the food. So I tipped accordingly and found out the waitress doesn't get the tip it goes to the owner...hence the 1 star rating. That's just wrong...

Must Try !. The choice of dining out in Pukekohe has got harder. We now have another great place to eat. We visited tonight along with quite a few other fellow diners eager to try the new place out.<br/><br/>I had the Burrito Ranchero, the other two diners had the Dixie Chicken, one medium and other classic. We were all suitable full and were unable to try a dessert. I am glad that we were not tempted to try the Entree's, other it would have been doggie's bags x 3 !!!<br/><br/>I do think having the bar away from the main dining area is a great idea.

I've visited Lone Star many times and have always been impressed with the service. However my most recent visit to this restaurant left me utterly disappointed in the food and in the way the chefs treated me. There were many things that went wrong with meals we ordered. The mussels had the beards still in them. Didn't complain. My rice on my Cajun chicken was stone cold, asked it to be reheated (naturally), and the boyfriend ordered a medium rare steak and received a defrosted grey carcass that was unpleasant to eat and look at. <br/><br/>When we mentioned this to the waitress, the chefs responded with it was cooked medium rare and that I was wrong and they would not replace anything. <br/><br/>I let the waitress know that that was unacceptable and that we were not paying 40 dollars for a meal that was well below par. <br/><br/>The service was fantastic, the food not so much. Won't be going there again.

Our first visit to Lone Star Pukekohe was very disappointing. My families meal came out first then 25 mins later came my meal which was the Lasso of Hog. The crackling which is what I look forward to was soggy. Then we returned a few weeks later thinking the Pork had to have improved only to be disappointed once again! Not only was the crackling soggy but the pork was so salty it was bearly edible and very dry! Once our mains had arrived we found it hard to get the attention of our waitress who basically ignored us the rest of the night. On payment the waitress failed to ask how the meals were and when we finally complained she apologised, big deal! I have been to other Lonestars which have been great. We especially love the Manukau Lonestar but will not be returning to Pukekohe Lonstar. Shame on you Lonestar Pukekohe!!!

Went to Lone Star Pukekohe and was very disappointed to say the least. We rang on Thursday to book in which we were told you can not book but we do listings, so we left our name and time on when we would roughly arrive. On Saturday night 24/5/14 we went to the restaurant and were seated in the bar and not the restaurant, we ordered the starters and then the main. The main took 45mins to arrive the steak was cold the pork was dry and it seemed to be that once the main was ordered the staff forgot about you. The staff seemed under trained and lacked customer service skills. The gentleman that took our payment complained that we never brought the card from the table (even though we were not told) and did not even ask if we enjoyed our meal and was very rude. Management needs to look at what is going on in the restaurant as we have been to other lone stars and Pukekohe is letting the chain down.

We've been here a few times now, with and without our 3 young kids. So I figured it was time to give it an official thumps up from our family. I have been really impressed with the service we've received each time - really attentive of our children's needs even when it's busy. There is great selection for us and our fussy eaters. I LOVED the chilli lime chicken! And the changing creme brรปlรฉe flavours keep my taste buds wanting more. So moist and flavoursome. . Our meals are always yummy. Thanks to all the team for some great meals and some great nights out!

Saturday 13th April, 8 very close friends went to Lonestar Pukekohe expecting a wholesome, tasty dinner. OMG, what a disappointment. My mum ordered the beef nacho's - they came to her looking grey and lumpy - size of 1cm rocks of meat, with little to no taste. The nacho chips had no taste and were stale. Come on Lonestar - get flavoured nacho chips....My lamb shanks were shoggy cardboard, as were the pathetic mash and whatever else happened to be on my plate - I seriously stopped looking and eating. Not mentioning a meal forgotten by the kitchen even after the waitress had confirmed our total menu orders - so what the hell is going on in the kitchen. .... is there a chef. The herbed lamb shanks proves there isn't and the grey pathetic excuse for beef nacho's proves they don't know how to brown mince and flavour it prior to making the nacho sauce. OMG, I could do a better job myself. We will not be recommending the Lonestar to anyone ever! Very sad really as the complex decor is quite nice.

Went to Lone Star Pukekohe for the first time (Thursday 6 Feb, 014). I ordered the pork ribs and my wife ordered the Blackfoot fish. Both very disappointed. <br/><br/>The speed with which the main courses were served indicated that the food was pre cooked and it certainly tasted that way. The ribs were tough and chewy similar to when cooked meat is reheated.<br/><br/>The rice of the fish dish was hard as if it had been kept heated for too long and dried out.<br/><br/>We will not be eating here again.

We went for an impromptu anniversary lunch. We were seated by a friendly young girl who promptly took our drink order and then returned some time later with one of our drinks, the other coming many minutes later. Whilst waiting for our drink the bar staff found plenty of time to laugh and blatantly make fun of patrons, pointing and giggling. The service was now sloppy with complete disregard to attention and we had to associate this with inexperience and lack of training, as the place was hardly busy. My partner's meal arrived and was almost totally consumed before mine even came - there was no apology, no acknowledgement, and this was bitterly disappointing. The only positive thing that can be said is the food was hot and cooked as stated on the menu but our dining experience itself was dismal and not one we will choose to repeat.

First time there and it was fantastic. Ang looked after us and was friendly, helpful and served what was a delicious meal. Fish was fresh and cooked just right. Steak was delicious and kids meal went down well. We enjoyed the atmosphere which was full of festive cheer. Well done to the team and can't wait to return

Just been to Lone Star Pukekohe for my grandson's birthday. It was very busy, and the music was a bit loud, but definitely family orientated, and very friendly. The food was great, and we didn't have to wait long at all. Our waiters name was is isssack, and he was amazing. He kept coming over to check that we were happy and needed anything. For such a young man, he really made an impression on all of us. Hope he's our waiter next time we go.

First visit to Lone Star Pukekohe, the place was packed and when we arrived it was going to be a 45min wait for a table or the waitress suggested we sat in the bar and had our meals there, I liked the bar better as it was quieter compared to the restaurant. We weren't forgotten and shortly after we sat down, the waitress came to take our orders.<br/>Salt and Pepper Calamari - Honestly, one of the best salt and pepper calamari en-tree's Ive ever had. It was fresh, it was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious.<br/>Both my partner and I had the Rib-eye steak cooked medium rare, again it didn't take long to come out and steak was cooked brilliantly. The garlic butter was awesome, the meal size was HUGE.<br/>I really enjoyed my night here and we will definitely be back again soon.<br/>Keep up what your doing, don't get people interested and drop the standards.
Trina
The restaurant is defiantly kid friendly but if you want a semi quiet evening then don't go..its noisy and cramped. <br/>The staff are young and inexperienced. We got taken to our table and then forgotten, we had to go up to staff and asked them if we where going to be served as groups that arrived after us where serve first. <br/>Food was average, and huge meals.. the plates didn't even fit on the table properly..who eats that much!

A rudderless ship about to hit an iceberg...<br/><br/>I watched my ribs arrive, nearly, only to watch the plate being hit against another patron's head spilling a rib on to the floor that was picked up by the server and off my dinner went back to the kitchen. To return seconds later. If you like dry ribs they are acceptable but not sensational. Our table ordered cocktails before our meals arrived that would complement our dinner. We ate our dinner minus our drinks. We finished our dinner still no cocktails. I went to the desk to inquire as to whether the drinks were ordered. "Oh look they have just come through on the computer" was the response "when were they ordered?" <br/>"before we got our mains" I replied. "25 minutes ago. We have finished our mains now."<br/>" Oh I will look into it and find out what happened" He said.<br/>The waitress came over and apologized about the drinks while another waitress stood behind her with our drinks. She stated that we had a choice of not drinking our made drinks and not being charged or drink them and they will be added to the bill. I suggested that she speak with the Manager for a better solution. She left the table and various staff tried to deliver other patrons food to our table *sigh*. She returned with a repeat of the offer of drink and be charged or we take them away. We drank them as we were thirsty from the meal. I have to say the staff were very embarrassed. But the owner, manager or maรฎtre dโ€™ was apparently inflexible on customer service he looked out of his depth and the only thing missing was the band playing as the ship sunk.

What a fantastic addition to Pukekohe and by far the best Lone Star I have encountered. The service is amazing and so Pukekohe-style, country friendly. The food was excellent and our family evening a lot of fun. Where else would the whole restaurant join in every time Happy Birthday was sung at a table?
Matt
As far as Lone Star restaurants go this one comes in under par. We ordered a couple of classics (Dixie chicken and ribs) and we too faced a long wait. The chicken breast was over cooked and dry and the ribs were just warm, like they had been sitting a while. Very so so experience.
Philip Lloyd
We were looking forward to our 1st meal at Lone Star.<br/>We had seen some amazing looking meals come by as the waitresses delivered them.<br/>We decided on 2 simple vegetarian meals: BUENOS NACHOS (basically roast veges and Nachos) only $14 and COPPERHEAD ROAST SALAD (basically roast veges) $24.<br/>The restaurant was not at all busy but we had an inordinately long wait for our meals and we noticed a few couples who arrived well after we did were getting served before us! <br/>Naturally, we were expecting the $24 meal to be far more substantial than the $14 one. <br/>NOT SO! The $14 one was a large plate with lots of nachos and lots of roast veges.<br/>However the $24 meal was minuscule in comparison.<br/>It was so insignificant, I thought I had received an entree instead.<br/>Its temperature could be described as barely warm at best.<br/>We called our waitress over to point out the vast difference in quantity and value of each meal. She was at a loss for any explanation.<br/>We called the owner over who said that the "franchise" had set the meal sizes and prices and he chose not to act on our concerns at all. He could not see at all that the $14 meal was far more substantial than the $24 meal.<br/>The experience was deplorable and we will NOT be recommending this restaurant to anyone.
