Review East Street Takeaways - Pukekohe

Niki Watson
I bought X2 12 specials and x1 $15 special. $39 all up $8 chips, 8 chicken nibbles, x4 fish, x4 sausages. As you can see it looks great and I could not fault it at all. In this day and age $39 is alot to spend on a meal for 4 and it needs to be well worth it. Can say this is definitely well worth it!! Such a yummy treat on a Sunday arvo. Still had food left over after feeding 2 adults and 2 kids. First time trying this place out since living in Pukekohe, will be back for sure

They close at 9pm and I walked in at 8.55pm, still they were more than happy to serve me. Classic f&c. Fish was a bit on the small side but some of the best I've had in Puke, batter was not thick. Fries were OK however asked for chicken salt and felt they were under-seasoned (some fries had no salt on them at all).

This place is on the more expensive side but overall the food is SO GOOD, it’s never greasy, they separate the fish from the rest of the food, they don’t need too but those small details make such a difference. They’re always really nice too.

We ordered takeaway. Chinese honey chicken, won ton soup, Sweet n sour pork, mussels and chips. A big order for a big family. It was freshly made. A bit of a wait but worth it. Will go back again.

Great tasty food at a good price. Would definitely get again FYI - Fish of the day is a small piece of fish, if you have a good appetite worth getting two portions.

Chips are good only brought $10 chips portion size could be bigger but I have noticed post Covid every where the price of food outlets have gone through the roof I would like to go back here to try the other food through so I will update once I have tried other food items

I must say by far the best fish and chips we ever had. Like even better than the one in town that everyone is raving about. Generous size fish. Crispy chips and they even come in cardboard tray. Not too oily at all

The only reason I’m giving this a 3 is that I’ve eaten here before and the fish is generally awesome. Tonight I left without my order as I waited an hour, the place was a shambles, but I put that down to lack of training to the guy on the till. We will go back and hopefully get our fish next time.

I was a frequent visitor of other fish and chip establishments and hadn't eaten here for a few years. Decided to give them a go a week ago and was very surprised...batter is how I like it, crunchy and not oily on fish, mussels and potato fritters. We also had chicken wings, these are similar to kfc wicked wings without the spice.
I would give 5 stars but have yet to try more from East Street Takeaways.
Will post up some pictures after then be there visit.
Our go to takeaway local- always predictable good food. The wonton soup and dumplings are yum. Service is snappy and always polite, always punctual on phone order also
We have frequented Hill for many years; but following their consistently awful quality lately, I decided I'd give East Street another try, as I hadn't visited at all since the change of owners. I'm so glad I did - the food was fresh, tasty and not drowning in pools of grease. The chips were a huge hit - salty and crispy, as was the curry roll which garnered an enthusiastic '10/10'. The fritters were good also, crispy batter and soft potato (they even threw in an extra, which a lot of takeaways don't do nowadays) and the fish was not bad (Hoki?) but will try either Gurnard or Snapper next time. If this meal is typical of East Street's quality, then I will gladly return again and again.

Recently we ordered two of the $6 specials. We received chips, burgers, and sausages. The chips tasted like cardboard, did not appear fresh, and looked as if they had been cooked in oil that had not been changed. The burgers were dull and greasy. The sausages looked as if they had been cooked more than once and looked old.

Ordered a laksa and it was crap.. The snapper was lovely chips were nice and crispy then big disappointment when tried the laksa was tempted to take it back as it tasted like dirty water with noodles..

Best Fish and Chips I've EVER had. Consistently good. The chips are crisp, golden and fluffy and the fish always tastes fresh. My top recommendation is the crumbed snapper or the fish burger. My Mum is from out of town and is a huge food snob but always insists on Fish and Chips from East Street Takeaways whenever she's in town. Highly highly recommend to all.

I have used this takeaway quite regularly for the last 2 years and it's been fine but nothing special. But recently the quality of their fish and chips has really improved. The battered gurnard is fresh, the batter is crispy and it's cooked perfectly. The chips were also perfectly cooked with plenty of salt. It's now the best fish and chip shop in Pukekohe as far as I'm concerned. They lose half a point as we often struggle to be understood while placing a phone order.

Nice Find. This is quite a small chip shop, but quite good.

Parking can be tricky as on one of the main approach roads into Pukekohe.

Great burgers! Best cheeseburger from fish n chip shop, they load lots of melted cheese onto the patty which is perfect for me! I always order the crumbed fish which I think is pre-prepared anyway, but still pretty good, I enjoyed the spring rolls too they were yum! It's changed ownership now though and added chinese takeaways to the menu, so not sure how it is now.

I visited on a very busy night, so the wait time was pretty extreme. Good menu choice, a touch on the expensive side. Food was good, except for the fish. Don't get me wrong, it was fresh - but it tasted a little 'dirty' - as though the fillets hadn't been thoroughly rinsed before battering. If it wasn't for that, it would have been a 4/5.
