Review Taco Medic (searle Lane) - Queenstown

Critically Coeliac
A hidden taco spot that you will want to keep a secret. Taco Medic is the perfect place to satisfy that mexican craving. Everything is made right in front of you on the hot plate. Service is as fresh and sharp as the food. The menu is completely gluten free and safe for coeliacs. Better yet it is top notch. The nacho chips with dip, Stockman Beef, and Kentuckyman Chicken stood out. Each dish pops in the mouth and was perfectly balanced. Why not enjoy a frozen margarita too? The space is brimming with energy. However if you have accessibility needs or prefer a chair it is tight. Better to place your order and then head outside or to the waterfront. Whether a quick snack, lunch, or a hangover cure - you won’t be disappointed with Taco Medic. _ _ _ * Critically Coeliac - reviews to die for * Whether a tasty treat or something more intimate, we are passionate about helping coeliacs find amazing restaurants. I was blown away by the depth of flavour of each dish. I had the adobo chicken taco and pork belly tacos with esquites. Everything was absolutely divine. Just all around amazing quality and a gem that you must visit if you're in Queenstown. This is my first night here and this set the bar really high for a nice easy dinner. Also, very reasonably priced because you get high quality for what you pay. I'll be back for sure. Thanks for such an amazing experience.

Good for take away , staffs are friendly and the tacos are great. 👍🏼🥰 the fries are also nice ✌🏻☺️

Amazing Vegetarian Tacos. They have good enough Spicy sauces to make tacos spicy for Spicy lovers.

Really tasty tacos, we spent about $35 on 5 tacos. Good range of fillings and they are loaded so fill you up! The only thing to let it down is the actual tortilla of the taco - tastes cheap and floury. Nothing mexican about it, would much prefer corn or something more authentic.

Amazing tacos, great vegetarian and fish options. You can tell the tacos were well thought through and planned and really took into account culture. Would definitely recommend tourists and locals to drop by. Better then other Mexican/Latino places too.

From the moment you step inside, you can feel the passion and thoughtfulness imbued into this beautiful place. The people were so friendly. The tacos were sooo good. Even the little glass bottles of sauce were spot on. It truly makes me happy to know places like this exist.

Taco Medix was amazing! 😁👍 The food was incredible, fresh and super delicious. The service was super friendly and approachable. There's also merch you can buy inside! (Hoodies, beanies and even hot sauces!) Definitely one of my favourite stops in Queenstown. Highly recommended!

One of the best Nachos I’ve ever eaten. The food was delicious. reasonable in price and a lovely atmosphere.

Came here because it's $6 tacos on Tuesdays (normally $8 a taco). I got the pulled pork, prawns and pan seared fish tacos with a side of nacho chips. All were delicious and sauce of different spiciness levels are provided. Make sure to come early because they ran out of tortillas and a lot of people missed out. Apparently I got the last order which was very lucky. The staff are super friendly and made my experience even better.

So putting the absolute awesomeness that is being completely gluten free aside, the food is incredible! I’d highly recommend the Bajaman and Ken Tuckyman tacos, plus the beef nachos. Also don’t forget to get the churros with the dulce de leche sauce! They’re so freaking good but you may want to share with a friend as you get four and two are more than enough.

This place is amazing. Just proves that food quality in Queenstown comes in all shapes and sizes. Started off as a taco truck and now it’s a hole in the wall restaurant. The staff are friendly and happy to chat through the menu. Tacos were absolutely delicious. We had 3 tacos each. The prawn and fish were fresh, delicious and plentiful. The chicken was great also.

The brown-haired young man who served us was delightful (it's the second time I've come, before, the same guy used to work with a very efficient light brown hair girl as well, I remember that there were too many people that time and watching them work together was a sight). He brought us menus to our sit and took our order, besides we asked him the history of the place, which he kindly told us.. Despite the place being quite crowded, and he was alone, we didn't have to wait long. He worked pretty quickly, and he was also funny because his name is 'Training,' although he seemed like a true professional, as well as good-looking. The music was also amazing, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was very good too. The only downside is that they don't have heaters; you can feel the cold both outside and inside, and the outdoor tables aren't very pleasant to the eye. Aside from that, I can say that dining at Taco Medic is a pleasant experience

I’m going to write a different perspective of a review for Taco Medic, a personable review. Food was lovely, great serving sizes but the real winner was the couple making the food with love. Watching them put on their favourite song and have a little dance and giggle while preparing our food was as heart warming as the food. True love in Mexican food form. Welldone guys, keep up the good energy, kitchen giggles and culinary grooves. It’s always nice to see the staff in their element both their energy and the culture. Was going to leave a 5/5 review but my honest feed back would be for Taco Medic to dim the lighting inside for a cozy atmosphere and a squeeze of lime juice would have lifted your amazing food.

The tacos here are so great that we came back again just two days later! The soft tacos are cut and prepared right in front of you, and the other ingredients are also fresh, and at $7 they are excellent value. Our favourites were the Bajaman (baja-style fried monk fish) which was just incredible and such fresh, tender monk fish, and the Koura (marinated prawns) was also tangy and succulent. We tried most of them including one from their veggie/vegan menu and they all were superb. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients, and it was great watching them work from the indoor seating which looks over their work counter. For drinks, we enjoyed their range of natural organic sodas.

The tacos here are amazing! I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu, whether it’s fish, chicken, or pork belly. They were all delicious and I loved the purple corn taco shells! The place is small and cosy and tucked away in a little laneway. Service is friendly and quick. One taco is $8, two for $15 or 3 for $21. It’s definitely a must try if you’re in Queenstown

Really incredible, worth the wait! Unassuming fresh made tacos, great flavour and reasonable prices. They fry the tacos in batches so you may need to wait for a slot. We had the producer, Ken tucky, harvester, stockman, cajun florets and string fries. My favourite was surprisingly the harvester, really scrumptious. Florets were pretty special too.

10/10 taco medic you guys are on!! Ordered 4x tacos (the adoboman ,al pastor, koura, and bajaman) and the chicken tenders and holy s**t was it good. Authentic corn tortillas, fresh salsa and the spices and flavours were so good I couldn't pick a favorite. Glad I had the Corona to wash it all down with it was like Mexico came to Aotearoa. Definitely recommended stopping in here for a feed if you're ever in queenstown.

Easily the best tacos in Queenstown, probably the best in New Zealand. Great service and reasonable prices. I tried the fish, the prawn and the pork tacos. Each one was incredible, but the fish taco was a standout. Be mindful that the place is tiny and there is only enough indoor seating for about ten people (but there are some benches outside). Best to go outside if peak dining hour to get a seat inside.

This is a great hole in the wall shop with communal seating outside. And they serve awesome tacos! I ordered the fish taco and the chicken taco, with a margarita. The best tacos I've had, super tasty, fresh ingredients, and just the right mix of meat and salad. And you must try the margarita. Very refreshing and matches perfectly with the tacos. Reasonably priced too, will definitely come back.

I love this cute little taco place. We decided not to go on our first day but so glad we made the choice to go on our last day. Open kitchen concept, friendly staff and tacos to die for. Had four different tacos with bajaman (prawns) being my fave. Just wished my taco shell was a tad less crispy coz it cracked on my first bite. Still good, highly recommend!

Best tacos I’ve had in the Southern Hemisphere!!! Definitely try the fisherman and the Bajaman! The vegan taco is also pretty awesome! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in queenstown.

If you are looking for authentic-tasting Mexican tacos, Taco Medic is probably as close you’ll find in New Zealand. Located down a side street in Queenstown lives this tiny little craft taqueria selling tacos made with corn masa tortillas and 8 different fillings to choose from (including two vege & two pesky options)!⁣
⁣
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐣𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧/ I couldn’t resist ordering this as Baja tacos were what we lived off when we were in Mexico. My taco came with the fried fish of the day (which unexpectedly turned out to be shrimp), green slaw, tomato salsa, lime, coriander and a creamy mayo sauce. The fillings balanced each other well but I definitely had to add a lot of extra salsa picante to a sufficient hit of flavour. Not quite the same as in Mexico but it certainly tasted more authentic than most the tacos you get in NZ! 8/10⁣
⁣
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚- This was the only straight vegan option on the menu, and contained a spiced walnut cutlet, red slaw, avocado vegan mayo, tomato salsa and coriander. There was a lot more sauce on this one than the Bajaman which was appreciated as the cutlet would have been a little bit dry without. However, the texture and flavour of the cutlet was good and it was nice to have a vegan option that wasn’t just beans or vegetables for a change! 8/10⁣
I love this cute little taco shop, with an open kitchen and yummy taco options, this place is a must visit for a cheap eat!

The taco shells are also freshly made on the grills, and you can choose from a variety of sauces to satisfy your taste buds

We stumbled on this food truck hiding in the backstreet of Queenstown. The tacos were so delicious, tasty and light but packed a punch. It’s very informal with some bench seating outside the truck. Prices are really good. Our favourite taco was the baja fish taco. A perfect spot to fix that hunger.

Our first meal after we landed in Queenstown. Famished, and looking for a quick 'Grab n Eat' this was the best option. We orders almost all the meat tacos that were there on the menu and everyone (6 of us) had their respective favorites But the winners were Beef, Chicken and Pork Tacos.

Has plentyofVegan and Vegetarian options, easy on pocket and service was very very very friendly. Cheers Guys!!

A Must!!

Taco delight.. great takeaway tacos in the heart of queenstown.
Beef & chicken were my choice tonight & they were both fab, I probably preferred the chicken. Good price.

We received friendly service as soon as we walked in. The tacos were made fast and right in front of us. While also being full of flavour :)

On my recent trip, i made sure i visited this place as I've read great reviews. The place itself is a no frills hole in the wall (or is it a truck in the wall?) kinda place. The menu pretty much explains how many tacos you need.
I ordered the baja and pork belly. Baja was unreal, crispy batter and juicy fish. Must have!
TigerTreeEats
Lovely freshly made tortillas. Relied on sauce for flavour. Same toppings in each; only meat differed. Burrito craft in wanaka had better fillings.

These guys are good. 3man show but great tacos. The location keeps changing and they are bit hard to find but ask around but don't give up as some locals may not know about these guys. You will need at least 3 tacos to fill you up. I ate tacos in San Diego but these came second to them. I think they are from Mexico. That should speak volumes.
HungryHulk
Had the producer taco which was vegetarian .
The sauces added extra flavour . Cant beat their taco and no comparison
Saw this place on the end of trip

Soooooo good!! 100% gluten free (which is magic for the coeliacs), and ridiculously tasty! Also very cheap for Queenstown which is amazing considering the quality of the food.

I tried The Bajaman and The Kentuckyman, which were both made even better by the homemade sauces available. Nachos were also delicious (even the leftovers we had cold 2 hours later!)

Awesome Nachos, handmade chips are sick! Rest of the crew had a taco each and had lots of comments of best tacos ever. Awesome vibe and team too A++++

Ordered “The Bajaman” - fish of the day was monkfish. Exceeded my expectations! The fish was fresh and evenly battered. Was reasonably sized too. Tacos are made to order so the fish was served hot and crispy. The salsa was well-balanced, not too acidic with the right amount of crunch. Good amount of spiciness as well. Overall a very tasty taco. 10/10 will return to try others!

If you want to enjoy a good meal in Queenstown without the crazy queue at Fergburger then this is the place to go. So delicious!!! Had the Bajaman and Bushman and I really enjoyed both. They even make their own tortillas.
Frizz
Not sure if enough people know about this place as it was very empty on the weekend. Super tasty and fresh though. I had the bushman and kentuckyman taco. Both were delicious, but especially the kentuckyman. $7 per taco. And 2 is good for a lunch meal

Great fresh taco's.
Quick turnaround and friendly staff on a freezing winters day.
Black bean and Oaxacan spiced fish were awesome with authentic masa flour tacos.

Taco Medic is the perfect spot for a quick eat in Queenstown. It was a beautiful day when we were there and the laneway was buzzing with people from all around the world. The communial tables make it a great place to meet fellow travellers whilst chowing down on some amazing tacos and fresh sauces.

Prior to making my trip to Queenstown, I decided to do some research on popular food spots within the town and that's when I saw some rave reviews about Taco Medic (TM). When I think soft shell tacos, I am quite contained with my excitement to eat them. However, this all changed with TM and their overall experience.

Setup: 4.5/5
This is a hidden gem down Searle Lane (lane next to Cookie Time Bar). Might be a little hard to find at first but once you get near the end of the lane, you will see the signage. Cute little setup, food truck like cabin with small seating area outside. During busy times, I assume many must have to eat while standing. Seating area is also covered, for New Zealand's unpredictable weather patterns.

Staff: 5/5
Staff were super friendly and the lad standing at the counter was super informative of the food being served and provided honest opinions. Also informed us of what sauce/salsa should be paired with each taco.

Price: 4.5/5
Prices for a taco are a standard $7 across the spread. May seem steep, but the tacos are priced on the quality and not the portion size I believe.

Food: 5/5
I was skeptical to begin with. Being from Auckland, our Mexican cuisine is quite average to say the least and soft shell tacos are usually quite underwhelming in an overall aspect (size, filling and taste). I ordered two tacos (could have and should have got more), "The Bajaman" (battered fish) and "The Bushman" (pork). I started with the fish, the fish tasted fresh and was lightly battered to perfection. It was accompanied by a sharp sauce which provided a great tangy offset to the fish. I then got started on the pork taco and with my first bite I was flung straight to the doors of heaven and welcomed by sweet baby Jesus. The pork was was so tender, juicy and oh so flavoursome. TM added a nice touch by adding generous amounts of pork crackling, the perfect touch to top off this top notch taco.

Overall: 5/5
I understand that my rating doesn't add up because of the sub-ratings I have done up. But from an overall perspective I believe this was a 5 star performance from TM. My only small and potentially nonexistent problems are the limited seating and slightly steep pricing. But the more the I think about it, the more I believe the pricing is reasonable based on the quality of the ingredients being used and the taste of the food. As for the seating arrangement, they do their best with the limited space they have. Overall, if you're looking for mouth orgasm food with a food truck atmosphere, this is where you need to be. Believe the hype when you see it.

I actually can't believe Taco Medic is only rated 3.3/5. It was quite possibly the best and freshest tacos I've ever devoured. What a mighty explosion of flavours. My partner and I were so impressed that we returned for another feast. Consistently amazing and awesome service!

I found the Stockman, which is a beef taco quite tasty, enjoyed it with some mango chilli sauce on top, wish it was a little bigger, you would need 2-3 to fill you up for lunch. I would go back for the same one ago, tasty tortilla & friendly staff.

Went for a 10km walk and needed a pick me up snack. It's hole in the wall and the staff were friendly. I had the producer (vegetarian) taco, which was black beans, pumpkin and goats cheese. Mine was delicious and the spicy sauce made it perfect. The bf had the fisherman and he said the fish was cooked to perfection. Though he said it was a small serving. Each taco is $7 and is packed with flavour. The banter with the staff alone, is worth a visit!

Visited Searle St location (not sure if Brecon St also exists?) which is like a little hole in the wall with a tent outside, and a small outdoor heater ..so could get a bit chilly, rug up. Had the pork, beef and crispy chicken tacos. Rate them 1. Beef - spicy and delicious slow cooked beef with...

On the way to the gondola beside the bike rental place. Came for a quick pre-lunch snack. The tacos were really tasty and fresh. They had sauces on the table to add more spice if you like. Worth stopping by for a quick bite any time of day.

Convenient quick snack or meal. Definitely worth a stop by after the Gondola or Birdlife Park. Great options including vegetarian and gluten free .

Bland and expensive. Stopped here after an enjoyable loge and gondola ride. Being the number one plus to eat in Queenstown I was expecting a lot from my feta, bean and pumpkin taco with a homemade tortilla. What I got was a lack of flavor and at $7 a taco it just wasn't worth it. My fam tried the other combos such as the fish and beef and said the same thing. This van is in a medical emergency!
