Review Flame Bar And Grill - Queenstown

Culinary Delight at Flame Bar Grill - A Queenstown Gem! Flame Bar Grill in Queenstown is a culinary haven! The menu boasts an incredible variety of mouthwatering grill options, and our dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary. We opted for a feast, indulging in the Pork Ribs full rack, fragrant Lamb Skewers, Mozambique Prawns, and the refreshing Crunchy Apple Slaw Salad. Each dish was a symphony of flavors, a testament to the chef's skill in balancing tastes and textures. The Pork Ribs were succulent, falling off the bone with each bite. The fragrant Lamb Skewers were a delight, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Mozambique Prawns were a seafood lover's dream, and the Crunchy Apple Slaw Salad provided a refreshing contrast. What stood out the most was the richness of taste in every dish. Each element was meticulously prepared, creating an absolute flavor explosion. The culinary journey at Flame Bar Grill was an adventure of the senses, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. The ambiance added to the overall experience, providing a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The staff was attentive, enhancing the overall positive dining ambiance. Flame Bar Grill is more than just a restaurant; it's a destination for culinary excellence in Queenstown. For those seeking a delightful and flavorful experience, this establishment is a must-visit. Our absolute recommendation!

It’s a nice place to have a meal. Decent view of the wharf through the windows. Free clean filtered water (some venues don’t have this). The steak and ribs were nice (ribs especially were good value). The lamb was nice but slightly over cooked. I recommend this place and would try it again.

Went for dinner on a Monday night. Service was excellent although we always are early eaters. Great selection of meats and meals (vegetarians need not attend). We had a meat share platter. The ribs were delicious, the chicken was moist and cooked so well, the sausage had a nice kick and steak was tasty. I was also impressed at the drinks options, I do enjoy a bourbon and there was a great selection. Also similar section for Whiskys. Couldn't fit in dessert (even with the nice selection they had) but thought finish it off with an Espresso Martini. Highly recommend Flame if you are in Queenstown.

We love this place so much we went twice! Lovely views here too. Order the steak. Medium rare. Lamb skewer. The yummy flavoured chips! And the tiramisu brownie! I’d love to return here one day…

Best service in a long time. All staff were excellent! Did was epic and wine great too. Open late. Flaming dessert was a delight. Make sure you hit this place up. Probably need a reservation. Great for everyone including the not so heavy meat eater. But ideal for the carnivore. 10 stars

One of my top rib restaurants!!! The sauce is very unique. Had a full rack of ribs with mesh potato + mushroom sauce. Way better than Hurricane grills😂😂 tbh I was expecting the taste of ribs from Hurricane grills. But they are totally different. High recommendation, will come back! + staffs are very kind, foods are amazing, Very flexible, Slightly dark but very clean table and floor - hard to get the window seats, requires booking (but very flexible with online booking), hate the bar chairs

Nice view of the wharf from their upstairs location and worth stopping in. We shared a few of the steak platters which are good value and all the food was nice, will definitely come back

Had a late lunch here after getting off the old steam boat. Loved the atmosphere, staff were super friendly, good local beer, restrooms were clean. Food was alright, maybe 3.5 stars. Our ribs were decent, maybe needs a little spicier smokier bbq sauce for more oomph (we asked for hot sauce and at least they had that), the coleslaw was lacking sauce and flavor, very bland, chips were good. The rump steak was good, but the burger was not, dry and kinda sad. Generous portions though. We would probably go back to try some different dishes next time at dinner time as they have more options, and for the friendly staff and atmosphere.

Booked in here based on a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed! Amazing feed! Great service! Easy to get to as well. Definitely worth checking out if your in town

We had a booking for 6:30 but tried on the off chance they could seat us at 5pm. We go sat straight away, we order strawberry daiquiris they were delicious, we also for starters ordered the cheese balls they were good, for main we went all out and got the steak board selection, eye fillet, rib eye and sirloin, you could choose 2 sauces, we went with the Jus and the mushroom sauce, it came with a side salad, whole boiled potato’s, fries. And we added prawns.and. Beetroot and feta salad Not mad at all, to have 3 steaks cooked to perfection in a very busy restaurant and food just getting pumped out the kitchen in no time. We also had the most happy waitress, Big ups to everyone working at flame, bar staff the drinks were on point, front of house was a gem getting us in early, waitress was a vibe and laughed when we realised we got heaps of food, and the chefs for the best steak this girl has had in years, felt very happy and comfortable having a meal here I’ll be back your manager & owner should be proud of the team he as .

Didn't have reservation but was seated within 10 mins. This was on a Monday, around 9:30PM. Place was still packed. Somebody took my order right away. Had my starter and waited for almost 20mins for my main. They were busy so I guess it was understandable. Food was great in general.I would say they have one of the best ribs I have ever tasted here in NZ. Chicken was moist and flavourful but the Mozambique Prawn was a bit mediocre and underwhelming. And their chips! I am not a fan of chips but theirs were delicious. I actually finished a serving of chips for once. Serving was huge. Don't worry if you can't finish your meal. You can ask for a takeaway container so you can just bring home your leftover. Lunch sorted! I would still recommend this place to people wanting a decent meal while in Queenstown. They also open til late so if you are arriving late in Queenstown and you want to have a good meal before heading to your accommodation, head to this place.

Excellent food, the ribs were flavorful, the chicken burger was tasty as well. Service was attentive. There’s minimum order of 1 meal per person policy.

Scrumptious options and the best ribs I’ve had so far. Can’t get enough of their ribs so ordered another half rib set. Even their fries are well made! Friendly staff with a great location. Couldn’t ask for more!

Food was great 👍 We had to wait and wave a number of times before someone finally came to take our order. Grill plater is a good deal having a good combination. The cheese balls were really average. The creamy prawn signature dish was really good, better than seafood chowder. We will come back again next time in town.

Great dinner. The ribs were amazing. Bomb Alaska was a big miss. Way too much brandy or whatever alcohol is used to light it on fire which ruined the overall flavour. But the meat and main meals were amazing.

One of the best dining experiences in Queenstown. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere and location vibrant and the food was beyond expectations. Highly recommend the platter for 2 (upgrade to ribeye) which will give a taste of everything. The meat was of such high quality and was cooked perfectly, the seasoning and BBQ sauce on the ribs were delicious. Even the chicken was cooked to perfection staying juicy and full of flavour. A must when in Queenstown.

The food is such good value for money. We had the meat platter which was N$70 per person, which is sooooo much food. If you manage to finish that you are either overweight, play sports at a decent level or have a hyper active metabolism lol. The staff was amazing and some of the better service we have experienced in a while. They also have klipdrift (klippies) for those who know. Highly recommended as it is not overdone with sauces so you can still taste the flavours of the meat unlike in America where you eat a bit of meat with your sauce. Definitely need to make a booking if you plan on going for dinner.

We went to Flame the two times within 4 day as the food there is soooo beautiful! Highly recommended! Make sure you make a booking online to sure you get a table that day.

Friendly and efficient service, nice clean restaurant, and most importantly delicious food! Chips were crispy, prawns and mussels were fresh and tasty, and the saucy ribs and chicken were moist and fell off the bone. Couldn’t fault the place, 5 stars!

Flame is amongst the waterfront end of restaurants, popular like most around this area. The entrance is on Beach St and a bit obscured so can be confusing trying to work out how to get in. Once inside though you are greeted with the immediate warmth of heating and beyond that, stairs.<br/><br/>Upstairs is a large and at this point, bustling restaurant. We arrived right on time according to our booking and were shown to our table, towards a darkened corner beside the kitchen area.<br/><br/>It was partially dark due to some issue with the lights apparently, and while it did make it a little tricky to read the menu, it didn’t bother us too much. Our corner didn’t feel like a popular spot however as we witnessed 3 other groups seated around us and then moved not long after, we assume at their request to be moved.<br/><br/>We were given menus, had our drinks order taken and were given some time to read through the menus. Our drinks arrived and we waited still for our order to be taken. Because there weren’t many people in our corner, we struggled to get any attention to our corner. 25 minutes after arriving and being seated we finally managed to put our order in after catching the eye of one of the wait staff.<br/><br/>Then began the next stage of waiting ... perhaps this is why our corner wasn’t popular, because nobody can see you! We waited and waited ... our food started to arrive 35 minutes after we ordered - that’s an hour from sitting down.<br/><br/>Now the food was really good. The loaf was amazing, soft and herby with melted cheese!<br/><br/>The ribs were fall off the bone tender and my wife said that’s the blue cheese sauce that accompanied her steak was the best she’d ever had! So that made up a little for the wait.<br/><br/>We decided we’d order some dessert and were given dessert menus ... but guess what? ... nobody came to take our dessert order ... so we gave up!<br/><br/>The food is fantastic and we could forgive the lighting ... but the feeling of being forgotten in the corner is a bit hard to forgive. A shame really because the food is on par with some of the better places we’d eaten in Queenstown. <br/><br/>

The mixed grill for two was not 2*for one, just some extra ribs. And the steak was not cooked as required. Only highlight was the pork rib, quite tender and well flavoured. Wasn't a great experience in general.

Seeing this place with a 4.3/5 star rating, I had to try it. The food and drinks are great, service was great as well. I'm from Auckland but if I ever come back to Queenstown, I'll definitely be dining here again. Thanks for the great food and drinks

pork ribs are bigger then I thought they are very delicious. and we got the seat next to the window, love the view outside. staffs are very friendly as well.

Excellent service, the staff were so accommodating and lovely. Only con is how busy it is and we can only stay at the table for an hour and a half including cooking time. This may be an issue for those with a larger booking number. However the initial experience was great. Staff were very friendly and super helpful. I’ve wanted to try their ribs for the longest time, so we ordered the following two dishes:<br/><br/>Full rack ribs: overall delicious, well done ribs. Although most of the meat was tender and covered in the perfect ratio of bbq sauce, some areas were a tad too burnt, some areas were fall off the bone, and occasionally there were still dry areas which were difficult to chew. Personally after all my rib adventures in Dunedin, I don’t think it’s super better than what I’ve tried so far. The sauce although was tasty, at the end made my tongue tingly from sodium overdose. Personally I still enjoy lone star ribs-just can’t beat em, and the Ratbags ribs in Dunedin are very similar (just slightly less sauce) but the meat is literally prepared the same (and for a way better price, especially on wednesdays) so if you’re ever after good ribs, sure, flame is super hyped but you can get similar quality elsewhere for a fraction of the price and just as good of an experience! If you’re still after that q town journey then by all means jump on the hype train, but it’s certainly not a huge bummer if you eat something else to satisfy your hunger. 4/5<br/><br/>Sirloin 250g: oh so much smaller than I thought, but cooked well and thoroughly-we asked for medium. The steak was relatively tender and chewy, had the right amount of spring in its texture, juice, and marinade, however it didn’t blow me away. I was more into the fried onion pieces on top, so I guess that’s saying something. Good quality piece of meat though, but personally steak isn’t something I’d order anyway so I’m a tad biased in that sense. 4/5<br/><br/>Chips were our preferred side of choice-they were unbelievably crunchy throughout our whole meal. I was pleasantly surprised and I do have to say they were fried very well, they never became soggy and maintained their crispness. A sauce to accompany it would have been welcomed though, and if salad was an option for a side, that would’ve been even better. <br/><br/>Overall, a great dining experience, had a lovely time munching away at bone, but it’s definitely one of those I’ve been there done that experiences, and next time I would definitely try another grill place!

Brilliant place! If you are in queenstown and don’t go here you are missing out! Go the meat platter it’s a amazing

This place was amazing!! I highly recommend coming here when you are hungry. We didn't have a booking but we were lucky they had a spare table to put us on as we came for an early dinner! A few people had to wait to get a table as the night went on as it is a very popular place, so I would book in advance to avoid disappointment. The staff were really nice and the service was pretty fast. We really enjoyed all our food, and the decor was pretty cool too!!

Meat lovers should definitely come here and try their ribs!!<br/>🍗Despite ribs tasted a little salty and too sour for me, the meat texture and juiciness were absolutely lovely!<br/>🍗It was amazing to have ribs cooked with tenderness inside and a little crispy on the skin (because I love cooking myself, it seemed not easy to grill them in a right-to-eat-but-not-dry way).<br/>Service was amazing!
Joshua Wang
The pork ribs were banging! Service was proper, 10/10.

This place is packed, service is great, they did their best go arrange a table for us even when we haven’t booked. Food is great, the only let down is the peri peri chicken in which the meat is too soft. Steak was cooked beautifully.

One of the best Steak Places here in Queenstown! They were very accommodating when we came close to closing time.. We Ordered Sirloin Steaks (Medium) and they were cooked perfectly.. The Mushroom Sauce on the side and the Chicken Salt which they add to the Chips are perfect! We will definitely visit next time we're in Queenstown

The Manager needs to change her attitude.<br/><br/>Have not met such a rude person in a long time. We were part of a large booking of 14 on the evening of 8/9/19. I arrived to the table at 5 minutes before booking time to ask if that was our table. Then she barked out:<br/><br/>"Wait at the door like everyone else!"<br/><br/>I was quite happy to wait at the door. But why the attitude? Why treat your customers like that? Who does she think she is?<br/><br/>This is my first ever review I posted for any restaurant. But the experience compelled me to.<br/><br/>The food was great as usual. But as a local of 6 years I will NEVER be coming back.<br/><br/>I give this review 2 stars because the food was genuinely good, the staff that served the food was friendly and on point.<br/><br/>But why make such a horrible person your manager?<br/><br/>****<br/><br/>I read several other reviews on Google and it seems there is a pattern emerging. A number of Flame staff treat their Chinese guests like dirt.<br/><br/>It's been nice knowing you Flame! Goodbye!

Excellent grill place, the ribs and eye fillets are so delicious. Food serving is generous, we had the half rib + steak combo and a small salad, that’s very filling for 2 already. But if you’re hungry and meat lovers, go for the mixed grill platter, that seems to be the favorite too. Great ambience, awesome place to be in cold winter night. Booking is recommended.

terrible service. we came 10 minutes earlier than our exact book time, the staff told us to come back later at our booking time. but when we were back to the cuisine the staff said few more minutes to go, but we had waited for 20 minutes!<br/>👎👎<br/>

This place was hard to get a booking because it’s quite popular. We got an early 4.30pm booking and orders the full rack between two. The best rack I’ve tasted. Falling off the bone, delicious sauce and a big serving. The menu prices are slightly different to what is on the Zomato app. I will need updating

We came here while on holiday in Queenstown, and I’m so pleased we did! <br/><br/>We ordered the platter for 2 and upgraded to the rib eye! All the meats were so juicy and well cooked! The steak and the potatoes were definitely my favorite! <br/><br/>It’s a busy place so I’d recommend booking before heading over there! <br/><br/>Highly recommend!

If you are looking for MEAT, then this is the place to be. The wait for the restaurant was questionable to say if it was worth the 2 hour wait. However that just builds the appetite(especially since my partner was looking forward to it so no change in plans).&nbsp; So we ordered Flame Mixed Grill for one and a Caesar Salad, the Salad was nice not overly dressed in sauce. So for the Flame Mixed Grill the ribs were wonderful, chips nice and crispy, Sirloin was cooked to perfection, Chicken breast was on the dry side and the Boerewors was very disappointing (since I am use to eating South African Boerewors) lacking in flavour which is a must for that type of sausage. Drinks was really good. Overall it was worth the wait, but I only gave it 4 star due to the wait time and sadly the sausage which I was really looking forward to.

We arrived early for our booking, but the manager was super lovely and managed to squeeze us in. Food came out very quickly and the staff were friendly.

By far has to be one of the places to eat in Queenstown.<br/>The servings are huge and are priced very well. <br/>Not the biggest outlet so is a good idea to book as it gets very busy. <br/>Situated on the second level and has a very nice sort of enclosed balcony area. Very nice place to sit and enjoy the views. Staff are very friendly and cool. <br/>Food is delicious. The ribs are amazingly delicious and so was the spicy peri peri chicken. Also the mushroom sauce is worth order whether you get steak or not. <br/>Only thing i didn’t appreciate is having a really good conversation with the guy at the counter and then when it came to the tipping part and pushing the “no” button all of a sudden the conversation was abruptly ended. Not cool. <br/>Apart from that Very good place to eat and would recommend to all.

This popular South African rib and steak house was recommended several times so it was one on the list to try whilst in Queenstown. <br/>We started with the NZ green lip mussels which were extremely tasty. <br/><br/>For my main I ordered the half rack of pork ribs with roast baby potatoes. The ribs were quite average to be honest, I was expecting something amazing but couldn’t find it. The meat wasn’t as tender as I had hoped, and the marinade was more of a tangy bbq sauce than anything infused with spices. <br/>

Not often you have a successful restaurant upstairs but Flames is very popular. We were rushed a bit as they were expecting a second sitting which was a bit unpleasant but the food itself was very nice , I went for the ribs , fillet combo which although expensive at around $50, was cooked to perfection and an extremely large portion, I didn’t get through all the ribs - would recommend but make sure you book

This place is value for money we got the shared plate for 2 and upgraded to the rib eye. Full of flavor and great side of sauces service was great normally we are big eaters and we could not finish had this. Only thing was ribs full of flavour but a bit dry. However still highly recommend.
Mrs_ox_qtn
Flame used to be one of my favourite QT restaurants but unfortunately since it’s changed hands it’s lost its personal touch and service. I’m a coeliac so wanted to take a GF cake for my birthday for a party of 4 and was told there would be a $20 cake charge as they would miss out on selling us dessert. I understand when there is a small cake cutting fee but not $20 for a restaurant where we might have not even decided to order dessert in the first place.
Nalisha Sen
Food was amazing! We got the ribs, peri peri chicken, mussels, calamari and prawns. If you like seafood I would highly recommend the mussels and prawns! The only reason this place didn’t get 5 stars was the service was below expectation; the table was too small and we were told we had to order a specific number of dishes and ended up with way too much food! All in all, we would come back 😊

Me and my friends had our last dinner here before leaving Queenstown the next day. The staff was courteous and friendly. The food was exceptional especially the pork ribs. You need a booking for a table because it is always jam-packed.

We have been to flame twice now, both times we had ribs and the first time we got the shared meat platter. Choosing to go to flame as people rave about the ribs being the best ever... unfortunately both times we went, the ribs were anything but. Very tough, I had to cut them with the steak knife. The chicken on the other hand, was out of this world!! Juicy, moist and could have easily eaten that all night long. Do make sure you book ahead as it’s always booked out. Great friendly staff!
Rezz Ca
Staffs are very friendly. Didnt have a reservation but they welcomed us and got seats for us. Very very busy. People keep coming and they have to make a reservation for the next day. We had the whole pork ribs and calamari as a starter. The pork ribs are huge that we couldnt even finish it between us and even took it home. Tastes really good. Calamari are also delicious.
Mysterious M
Very busy restaurant. It’s better to make a booking. Food was great, must try the ribs and peri peri chicken. But service needs improvement.
Streaky Eats
First impression, they really should update their menu on Zomato because the prices and items available are not reflective of the actual menu.<br/><br/>Moving on, the place is located upstairs and can get really packed. Ordered the Surf 'N' Turf with the ribeye option and added $3 for polenta chips (otherwise you can stick with the inclusive regular chips at no extra cost). Didn't really get why polenta chips would require additional $3 when both polenta chips and chips cost the same as a side at $6.<br/><br/>Food arrived, really pretty presentation. You have a ribeye steak garnished with fried shallots, two sauteed tiger prawns, and the polenta chips.<br/><br/>Steak was cooked well and marinaded with their BBQ sauce, really frangrant and I'd imagine it'll taste super good on their ribs. The fried shallots could be crispier, as it was soggy, not the biggest deal. The prawns were cooked in garlic butter and had a slight spicy kick to it, very flavourful. The best part about the prawns? They are butterflied and pre-lifted from its shell, takes almost no effort in peeling the shell, convenience at its best. First time trying polenta chips, they were all evenly shaped and battered in that familiar onion ring batter. Tasted pretty good and quite like it.<br/><br/>Overall, good food and friendly service, a suitable place if you want to splurge a bit on yourself.

Giving 1 star only because zero is not an option! <br/>How funny is that before coming into the place, we read all reviews and low rating were all given for rude and bad service, but we didn’t believe it. Sadly, we experienced the same rude and racist service. <br/>We went in 10 mins before opening for lunch. The waiter said to sit outside and no other information were given. There’s only a tiny round high table for two almost only enough for drinks. So we sat down in the corner table for 3 (one chair is completely blocked). However mins later the service man told us to sit over at the tiny high table because that’s for 2. We said nicely to him that we are going to order a few meals and for a quick meal while the round table would be too small for food. He insist it’s not possible. At the mean time there’s another group of people who came in and sat down at the table beside us. So if they could do it why can’t we? Is it just because we are Asian ? We requested to speak to the manager, while we are leaving he said he is in charge and if we insist, we can sit on the square tables. That’s when we realize he was just being rude and racist. By the time we left with disappointment, the restaurant only had 3 tables occupied.
Aiden
Very bad door service. The worst door service I’ve ever had in Queenstown.<br/>We headed there right when they opened. The entire place was empty and we were told only to sit at a high table because all other tables were for four people although not fully booked or reserved. We said very politely to have a quick lunch and there’s no one around. The waiter insist to ask us to sit at the high table or leave.<br/>With such a service I’d rather have lunch elsewhere. Hope other waiters are not as bad.

As most reviews here say , Flame is amazing. I have waited a long time to try here. I was not disappointed .Fun noisey atmosphere , casual dinning .The staff are super friendly . Special thanks to Nick ! Made the night fun .A real asset to your company . The meals are huge and taste great . Put flame on your to go list . Make sure you book . Super busy .

We went to this restaurant for dinner last Sunday night but it was a complete full house. So we made a reservation for the following night.<br/><br/>We finally managed to dine at this restaurant last night. Luckily we made a prior reservation as it was an outright full house again too.<br/><br/>We ordered cheesy garlic loaf and Mozambique prawns for appetizers. The cheesy garlic loaf was a freshly baked loaf, delightfully immersed in cheese, garlic and herbs. The loaf was surprisingly very good! The outer layer was crispy with a magical touch of cheesy flavour, whereas the inner part was soft and fluffy.<br/><br/>The Mozambique prawns were sauteed prawns smothered in rattlesnake sauce (creamy hot and spicy peri peri reduction), served in a steamy hot pan with rice pilaf. This appetizer was very delectable too, especially the rattlesnake sauce, it was so flavourful with reasonably hot and spicy taste.<br/><br/>Our main course was Flame Mixed Grill, which was a platter for 2 persons, consisting of bbq pork ribs, sirloin steak, Flame bbq peri peri chicken, boerewors (South African sausage).<br/><br/>The bbq pork ribs were average, they were slightly over grilled and over burnt. The sirlon steak was pretty awesome, perfectly cooked while reserving the fresh taste and tender texture, with lots of fragrant fried shallots sprinkled over it. The Flame bbq chicken was below average, as the meat was overcooked and the inner part was dry and tasteless. The boerewors were not as good too, they were overly salty.<br/><br/>We had Margarita and tropical crush for our drinks. Both were refreshing and sparkling cool.<br/><br/>Their customer service was good, certainly above average. The dining environment was pretty ideal too.<br/><br/>Food & Beverage : 6/10<br/>Service : 8/10<br/>Price : 6/10<br/>Ambience : 7/10

4/5 Taste<br/>4.5/5 Display <br/>4/5 Quantity <br/>4.5/5 Customer Service <br/><br/>Must go semi-fine dining Restaurant in Queenstown.<br/><br/>Obviously this place is popular amongst tourists and local as they serve huge racks of ribs and range of seafood. With less than $50pp we were able to enjoy whole lot of meat, seafood and drinks! <br/>Super satisfied with the taste also.

Hands down the best place in Queenstown. Place is usually packed.<br/>Had everything here - ribs, steaks, burgers, etc<br/>Everything was cooked superbly and it’s worth every penny.<br/>If your ever visiting Queenstown, do not miss this place. And do try out the ribs. 5/5<br/>

I came to Queenstown on a solo trip and was thinking about eating some seafood. Headed to Flame on Monday night but it was packed. So made a reservation for Tuesday and got myself the bar seat.<br/>The host was amazing and even introduced me to another solo traveler on my left.<br/>We started eating and made friends too. What made this better was the ambience in Flame Bar, the lovely selection of wine and not to mention the Tiger Prawn mains with rice. <br/>If I go back to Queenstown, which I will...you know where to find me for dinner! 😍😍😍👍🏼👌🏼

Like most restaurants in Qtown, its difficult to get a reservation for dinner, especially if you’re coming in with a large group. However with this restaurant, I wouldn’t mind if I had to wait until very late to get a table. The steak is great and it has gotten me talking about it all the way back home. Will definitely come back here again

Lonely traveller suddenly wants to eat meat... and then this restaurant somehow attracts to me. Ribs and grilled meat are their speciality so I ordered ribs and chips and mushroom sauce, and a mocktail. Since I was alone, I was placed at the bar so talking to the bartender makes me less lonely. <br/>The ribs were huge and bigger than my face (but it’s just half rack😂) I feel like it’s something people should share but I ate alone. <br/>The ribs were nicely grilled and flavoured and the meat came off really easily. Chips were a bit under flavoured though. <br/>Mocktail i ordered was tropical crush so it was like a fruit smoothie. 👍🏻👍🏻

Probably the best ribs I've ever had and that says a lot being American! Excellent service and staff. Wonderful location and views. Extremely busy so book ahead. No wait for our reservation. Everything was wonderful except the wings. If you're not into crispy wings these are for you. Everyone else order more ribs lol.

Believe it or not we had four mains and finished them all, it was so good we just couldn't stop eating, the lamb cutlets was so delicious and the steaks were perfectly cooked

Brought my mother from the UK for her birthday absolutely loved it! Great meals, great staff. Very efficient service. Very good knowledge of menu. Will be back!

We had chicken wings and the entree platter first then a full rack of ribs with chips after that. Service was fast. The place was full when we went there and had to wait for an hour to get our seats. I suggest booking a table in advance to avoid having to wait. The food was average. The ribs looked really nice but didn't get that FOTB (fall of the bone) or MIYM (melt in your mouth) experience.
Kelly Costa
We really enjoyed our meal at Flame. We ordered the share platter and it was a lot of food! The steak was cooked to perfection, flavours on the chicken were great and the ribs were delicious. The only thing we weren’t huge fans of was the boerewors as South Africans we eat this all the time and this wors was a bit more clove than we’d like but still cooked really well! The Klein Constantia wine was great too! Can highly recommend this restaurant but be sure to book a table ahead of time other wise you might miss out or need to wait like we did.

food were extremely good. lamb cutlets were cooked to perfection and the steaks were absolutely spot on. We had a big group and they were able to book us in last.minute reservation. service was extremely good and the waiter was very polite and handle a big group very well. price was reasonable. highly recommend . Best in queenstown. hands down.

Located on the beach street this place is a must visit for the serious foodie. I went with my wife and ordered ribs, the sea food platter, a lobster and a spinach beet salad (and yes we polished off all of it) the ribs were tender and juicy ... The salad was good, the sea food platter was great and so was the lobster(wish it had more meat though) the best for the both of us were the mussels. It was a brilliant dinning experience and a must for anyone who's into grills and seafood. Just remember to give em a call and book before hand.

The concierge was quite rude to my mother and I would never recommend this place to anyone as a consequence. Customer service and manners make all the difference. To read my review, go to stormechaser.com

Great food! Generous portions and great service! Will definitely be coming back here. The ribs were on point, perfect balance of the sauce and smokiness. Burger was delish and the fries with recommendation to order the mushroom sauce to dip the fries in - genius!

Loved my meal at Flame! I ordered the fillet with mushroom sauce, my boyfriend ordered the ribs, fillet and rattlesnake sauce. The steak was done medium rare and it was super juicy, I loved every bite and the sauce so creamy would definitely recommend. My only complaint be that I wish the fillet was big because it was so tasty, but Flame does offer many different cuts. Will visit again next time I am in Queenstown :)

Amazing steak! Best steak I've ever had, was in Queenstown for a week and we visited twice. The mushroom and blue cheese sauce is highly recommended, everything was full of flavour. Gets quite busy so best to book if you're planning to have dinner here. Service can be quite slow but otherwise great place to dine.

Great food, friendly and helpful staffs. The meals are absolutely stunning and worth your money. This is a must-try place if you ever visit queenstown. 9/10 would come back again!

Visited Flame a couple of times now. Bar and grill is what they do, and they do it well Nothing fancy, just tasty meaty goodness. Try the full rack of ribs if you're game!

The reception staff is very rude, terrible service. We made the reservation at 18.30pm for three people, the table is available but the staff refused to let us sit in only because the table is a 4 seat table, which is ridiculous. Won't go there again.

Stopped in here for lunch and had a burger and chips, very nice! Good feel, great views. I really enjoyed the service, very attentive to us!

We didn't have a reservation so we started walking away, but as we were walking out the exit the host came running down saying we could sit at the bar. Flame is a higher end place, but we love the bar-- so we sat down. We ordered the Garlic Cheesy Bread, Ribs and Fillet combo, and the surf and turf. The bread was a perfect appetiser very tasty! The meat was perfectly cooked (one of us ordered medium-rare and the other rare). The ribs were succulent and the shrimp were very good. The staff was friendly-- even giving us genealogical history of the bottle of red we ordered (from Central Otago of course). This was a great place. Definitely worth visiting if in Queenstown!

Amazing food and fantastic service!! Ordered the flame mixed grill. Every mouthful was cooked and glazed to absolute perfection, and there was so much food on the board it could have easily fed two! Easily the best meal I've eaten ever.
Ellynn
My parents and I tried this place because it was recommended to us by my sister. I personally dont eat that much pork but the ribs were great. I have had better ones but it was still good. The fact that they served some mushroom sauce with helps with the sweetness.
Rebecca Heng
Fantastic service and amazing ribs!! Best to book in advance as they get super busy (can do this online).<br/>We had the ribs and lamb cutlets! Nice and meaty

Was not impressed by the reception at the door. However when we finally sat down our server was polite and always topped up our water. <br/>This place gets so busy, so remember to book ahead. <br/>Famous for their grills - we shared a platter that came with an African sausage, peri chicken, famous ribs and a piece of steak. For 2 people it was more than enough. Think it would feed 3 normal people just fine. <br/><br/>The sausage had a type of herb that was not to my liking... maybe aniseed??? <br/>Peri chicken was spicy!! But delicious however the chicken breast was so tough I couldn't chew it.<br/>Ribs were yummy but some of the ribs were not as fall-of-the-bone soft. <br/>Steak was done well but nothing amazing. <br/><br/>It was definitely a good meal with a cosy and lively setting. Too full after that though :p
Michelle Chua
Ribs ribs rib! It's so good and tender ! Well cook and great service. <br/>Like a bar it has the vibe but it brings the "get together peeps" atmosphere. Staffs were attentive during the busy hour and their food and customer service is good. <br/>

Came here twice, Frist time i came here alone and made a booking for 7ppl the next day. <br/>The first time I was here, getting the attention of the waiter/waitress was hard and feels like I was slightly ignored just because I was seated alone. I ordered the full rack ribs and long island iced tea, had to remind two different server for water which took so long to arrived, while other tables that came after me, got served water instantly. The ribs are amazing and the drink were pretty meh~ however this waiter keep insisting me to put on a bibs, and causing a scene and putting me up on spot just because I decline to put it on. In the end he put it on me.. while other customers laugh at the situation.. seriously no mean no, don't force a yes out of me!<br/>The second time I came here with a group of 7ppl. When we finished ordering the foods and being the told by the waitress, we need to order more foods because some of us are sharing a meal, in the end we have to order 2 more salads and chip to fit a restaurant policy which was never mentioned when I booked ... Or in the website. Which pretty much pissed off everyone in the group.<br/>Overall experience only the ribs are amazing but everything else is pretty much boring/bland. That fried shallots that was sprinkle on the steak, tasted like rubber and stale. Service wise you don't get treated well eating alone. ALSO THAT POLICY SHOULD BE MENTIONED IN THE BOOKING NOT IN THE BACK OF THE MENU!!! WHICH WHO PAY ATTENTION TO THAT...<br/><br/>

Best ribs ever and the chowder for an entree was probably the best chowder I've ever had! Nick the waiter was 10/10 also, extremely good services cheers
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
So I came here on a date. We didn't book a table we just walked in, service is from the waiter was very quick, me and my date ordered a chicken burger one it's egg one with cheese. We ordered a beef burger for take away . I asked the waiter if it could be made once we started the our have here meals. She said yes of cause!!!<br/><br/>So we decided to just order a beer and the burgers. I even order a take away burger . 20 mins go by and I decided on a cheesy garlic bread so that will tie us over till the burgers come. I asked the waiter if I order a garlic bread will it come out first as we are pretty hungry she said yes. Well 15 mins later she brings the garlic bread out one min later the 3 burgers! So that means the take away burger as well! Even though I specifically asked for it for take away and to be prepared for when we leave.<br/><br/>Well the garlic bread was a let down looks amazing but it was lacking flavour all I could taste was cheese no garlic! <br/><br/>The burgers how ever was massive and amazing, <br/>The take home burger was rare I asked for medium it was very under cooked<br/><br/>
Megan Elyse
Great location with beautiful views. We had the cheesy garlic bread and Mozambique prawns for starters, both were exceptional - especially the prawns. For mains had the full rack of ribs which were fall off the bone. Definitely need to make a booking here as it gets quite busy, highly recommend

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner. We had a new on the job waitress who was pleasant enough but still has a few things to learn. She tried serving my partner across me which was very awkward, she knocked my jacket off the back of my chair (perhaps a coat check would go a long way in this packed restaurant especially in colder months) which she picked up and lay on my lap... not ideal either. We were warned there would be a wait but didn't think it was that bad. The food came out and my mushroom sauce had a skin on it which means it could have been sitting out for a while, I asked for a medium rare but it was slightly overcooked for my liking but that could just be me being fussy. Our friend who made the booking had organised for a birthday brownie which had been forgotten about and had to be promoted. I'd say this dinner was fairly average.

my partner and i decided to go here after recommendation from a local. was informed it was the best bbq type of place for steaks etc. we were recommended to book in and we are lucky we did, while we were there people were getting turned away as they were very full. we were put up on the balcony which was slightly cold (only one heater). people that arrived after us were served before us. we ordered drinks which came promptly. then ordered a startee, cheesy garlic bread. this bread is very very cheesy! we didn't even get to finish it. I ordered steak and my partner ordered a burger. food didn't take long to come. my steak was amazing and it came with three baby potatoes. I was disappointed I couldnt finish it all as it was very filling. my partner also could not finish his meal as it was very filling. throughout the night we had to get the attention of the waiters for drinks and water as they did not come over and check on us. I would still return to this restaurant, recommend it to friends and definitely suggest booking in to avoid missing out! :)

Great attentive staff. On point service<br/>Fantastic food and as we were not in a hurry we watched many others enjoy and appreciate their meals and service also. Highly recommended.

To end our journey in queenstown,we purposely reserve the table for last dinner, thinking of ending this with a bang. To start with we did not know it was otago day( they charged us 15% extra) without telling us in advance when we make booking 2 days before. We still go because we really want to try, we start with new zealand lipped green mussel, it was magnificent. So fresh, tender, creamy sauce..the sauce to die for. Next main we order the platter to share consist peri peri chicken, sirloin steak , south african sausages and bbq ribs with roasted potato. Ohh yeah we try the mushroom sauce which known for its speciality. When it comes to the table it so huge, i try first the ribs , its a bit dry, still tender however it needs more sauce to got flavour. Next i try the sirloin which i order medium rare, once again it dried. And next one i try the sausage , i did not really like it but still acceptable flavour. Lastly i try the peri peri chicken. It was good! Better than the ribs. <br/><br/>Oh ya the roasted potato is good. And i try the mushroom sauce which is unique , had a wine sauce flavour which give a bit of kick and still got mushroomy flavour, maybe recommend more mushroom chunk in there. Overall its not what i expect to be, service is fine, the 'american' girl that serve us is excellent. But for ribs i think its average.

Great location overlooking the lake and The Remarkables. Their Barbecue Pork ribs is to die for. Nice ambiance and place is busy.Located along the main road in Frankton. Highly recommended restaurant in Queenstown.

Wow! Where to start... we went to Flame Bar & Grill as a big group and none of us could fault a thing!! The service was fantastic (thanks Nick! Your recommendations and service were on point - good banter too!!) Now on to the food, the meal portions were ginormous, it's safe to say no one left hungry! The flavours were out of this world and the meat very tender, I had the cheesey garlic bread, fillet steak and baby roasted potatoes they were all fantastic. Our group had the seafood chowder (which was up there as one of the best) and the ribs which were superb. Highly recommend this to everyone going to Queenstown, you certainly won't be disappointed.

Flame is one of my favorite restaurants. I eat out every night and frequently dine at Flame. It is one of the few restaurants that is consistently good. Excellent service, excellent food and very affordable prices. I love the Ribeye steak and the Chicken Schnitzel and of course the ribs :)
Samuel Williams
So happy we ate from here got a full rack of ribs and it was great! Jen got the basic burger and it was huge she couldn't finish it! We got mushrooms and garlic ciabatta as entrees, the mushrooms were. Toning special but the garlic bread was the best I've had.<br/>Also a local trick we used, they're always booked out so we rang up and ordered takeaway ;) walked straight in got our food and walked straight out and it was busy as hell! Very nicely packaged too :)<br/>Recommend!
SweetTooth
Was slightly disappointed for a grill house steak as we've ordered medium rare and came with well done, fries was over cooked as well. <br/>The ribs were tasty and full of flavour but were a little dry.<br/><br/>Overall it didn't live up to my expectations
Vita
Food is nice, however service isn't as good as food. You never feel warm welcome from this restaurant and what you could feel is that they would like you finish dinner ASAP and leave. The waiter who served me left me at the bar for a while even though I made reservation for a table and there were some tables available at that time. When a waiter finally came to me, he just straight asked 'are you ready to order' with no smile on the face rather than taking me to the table and introducing food here. Dining atmosphere is also bad, feels like dining in a takeaway or fast food restaurant. Such bad dining experience here. Won't be back!

Went down to Flame to celebrate our wedding anniversary.<br/>We pre booked as our hotel recommended as this place gets super busy.<br/>We sat out on covered front area of the restaurant.<br/><br/>Food was simply amazing !!! I have no had a steak cooked to this perfection for a very long time.<br/><br/>Entree - Field mushrooms & cheesy garlic loaf - 5/5<br/><br/>Mains :<br/>Husband had the ribs - he loved them !! Struggled to get through half a rack, def worth the price.<br/>I had the Fillet steak combo which had seasonal veges and mushroom sauce.<br/><br/>5/5 for both mains. <br/>Portion sizes were perfect and the price was reasonable.<br/><br/>Dessert we had the mars bar sauce topped over vanilla ice cream to share - just enough for the 2 of us.<br/><br/>I will definitely be back during my next trip to Queenstown:<br/><br/>Downside to Flame; we were seated right next to a loud group of ladies which meant we couldn't really hear each other in conversation and celebrating a significant anniversary we had asked during making our reservation to have the perfect seating , our waitress just couldn't get out drink order right. It may of been her first shift.<br/>Very minor issues though.<br/><br/>Thank you Flame bar & grill for some tasty as food !!!

Had my birthday dinner here and luckily booked in advance. The place was buzzing! After food arrived I could understand why! Entrees were good, cocktails and desert were decadent but the ribs. OMG. Tender, full of nice sticky sauce, just delicious. Had a balcony seat which means we could see the view just nicely. Value for money too. Service, again spot on. Go ribs or go home!
Mario Forster
Sooo gooood! Great service, great bar, great menu. Try the ribs. And the steak. And the mushroom sauce... Try everything. I was too full to have desert, but the selection looked great too!

So glad we made it to Flame! You need to book a few days advance as they are always booked out. All staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially Nick our waiter. We had a super comfy booth, which is just what you need if your ready to eat a ridiculous amount of meat. The food was all amazing, steaks were cooked to perfection, slightly marinated and garnished with fried onions! Chips were seasoned and crunchy and there was certainly no running out of sauce! Lamb was tender, ribs were falling off the bone and the calamari melted in your mouth. They got a drink order wrong 2 times and one of the sauces - not big deals, and Nick was to the rescue immediately! They just need to focus a little more on accuracy but they have everything else spot on. I will highly recommend this place to anyone heading to Queenstown and look forward to coming back some day!
JC
Pork ribs were super dry and overcooked. Lamb shanks were hardly seasoned and the chips were cold and soggy. Definitely did not live up to the 4.1 rating.
Saif Nouri
Absolutely amazing food, fantastic atmosphere, excellent service by Jonny from North america. We had the mozinbeque prawns(not sure how you spell it) and that was a delight, wedges were golden and crispy, and I had the rob eye on bone steak and I must say its one of the best steaks i have had, mywife had cesar salad and she loved it. So definitely a place to pay a visit when you are around queenstown.

Wow this place is .. SO GOOD!! <br/>Friend recommended to check it out while visiting Queenstown and it was definitely worth!! Ordered the famous ribs, flame burger and chicken wings with family during lunch. I recommend going for lunch because the price is cheaper and so worth. The ribs were super NICE!!!!! Very filling!!! The sauce on it was like sweet-ish and sour ish?? Idk how to describe but it's SOOO good!! And meat falls straight off the bones. The burger's patty was so thick and juicy and fries were just amazing with special seasoning. The service was really good too, waiter was enthusiastic and was very handsome ;)

Having lunch now and this is my first time to write the comment.<br/>The ribs are so good and the mushroom sauce is so good~<br/>Come on for the people who have the 1.9 score, you should say the truth instead of being a liar ~ The staffs are warm and welcoming!<br/>Definitely recommended

Had dinner at 18:30 on 16/05/2016 there. We were greatly disappointed with their food and service. I will list all details below for verifying my experiences.<br/><br/>Firstly, I have to mention one mistake which was made by one male staff there. I ordered one 'Tiger Prawn' (Shelled Giant tiger prawns lightly grilled in a thermidore sauce. Served with peri-peri sauce, garlic butter and rice Pilaf) But another male staff brought us a wrong dish which with similar raw food materials but totally different one. I was very confused and asked the staff that if it was the soup of the day. Because it was very looked like a soup and we were also waiting for the soup at that moment. He told me that it was not. And ... after he went back to the front of kitchen, he just talked to one male kitchen staff like that ‘that lady asked me if the prawn dish was the soup of the day’. Then ... they mocked at me together. Really could not understand their mind and behavior. What do they think about their customers? How could they bully me before my very eyes?<br/><br/>Secondly, there was an extension drama. When I talked to the first male staff who made the wrong order for us about the wrong dish, he gave me 2 different answers. The first answer was that those two dishes were the same thing. But actually I showed picture to him when I ordered all dishes at the first, those two dishes were totally different, so this answer was untenable. The second answer was that the "Tiger Prawn" was not available at Flame forever. But one of my friends just had the same dish there about one week ago, so this answer was also untenable. Then ... he just took the wrong dish back to kitchen but without any word. I did not heard any “sorry” from him.<br/><br/>That was not the ending. When their staff brought us the real "Tiger Prawn', it was still looking different with my friends picture. The size of prawn was smaller and the color was too dark. <br/><br/>We spent more than $100.00 there but just got poor food and poor service what was value at $10.00 Even 1.0 rate was too high, I am willing to give a rate at - 100.00

We decided to have a quick lunch before we head back to Auckland. A friend recommended the grilled ribs and we happily obliged. We each ordered the ribs and chips. The service was really quick and the serving was big. A plateful of three large rib racks and chips for $15. Very good lunch deal. And to top it all the ribs were finger licking good.

Coming to New Zealand and not having beef steaks.. trip is incomplete.. <br/><br/>I found this restaurant.. which serves excellent steaks and that too Halal.. Awesome food.. friendly staff.. very good ambiance.. <br/><br/>PS - Need to do a booking, since it is always full.

I really like this place and this is why<br/><br/>- Friendly staff, attentive and fast service <br/>- Great place for the meat lovers you get a lot of options<br/>- Good value for your money totally worth your money (Queenstown being the capital of tourism and overpriced everything ~ your wallet will not cry...

So on 3rd of January this year, i went to Flame with my family & my friend's family. We're from Jakarta, Indonesia. The taste was so gooddddd!!! THE RIBSSSSS I CANT DESCRIBE ITTT!! Its very delicious💕. And the service👍👍. If u want to eat in here, i think u should reserve😁Overall its...

Superb! Managed to score a booking late notice on a busy Thursday night. Very lucky considering many groups were turned away due to lack of tables throughout the night<br/><br/>Everything was delicious but some highlights worth a mention:<br/><br/>Prawn entrée = unbelievable (and I'm not even consistently fond of prawns).<br/><br/>Full rack for my partner - a huge feat though he managed to finish and claimed they were the best ribs he's ever had. <br/><br/>Kumara chips... absolutely to die for, matched well with the mushroom sauce.<br/><br/>Service was efficient and very friendly despite obvious demand in the restaurant.<br/><br/>Definitely recommend and would go back!
CD
This place is packed! Book to ensure a table if youre intending on going. Between three of us, we shared the mixed grill which had a mix of different meats. The rib eye steak and ribs were a definite standout. The sauce that accompanied our meats was the peppercorn sauce, its creamy, buttery and flavorsome. We also ordered a slaw however this lacked punch, it was quite bland. A great place to try if you're in queenstown!
Tw393
The best ribs ever , the restaurant opens at 12pm on their trading day and when we got there it was already full. The ribs were so juicy and the chips were cooked to perfection , not to mention their yummy mushroom sauce !!! I highly recommend this place !! A must visit if u r in Queenstown. The lunch time special is a bonus!!
Nuanyun Feng
The full rack pork ribs was huge! The taste was good, but in comparison to the ribs from hurricane's or pancake on the rocks, this one may be not as surprising as those. But it's still a god restaurant if only judge by its own.

11.11.15<br/>We were really lucky to have our first dinner on a Tuesday night at this place. These guys are specialized in steaks and it seems the most popular meal on this establishment is the pork ribs. However make no mistake, they are absolutely great in pretty much anything you can have on the menu. We ordered a big Seafood plate (check the picture attached) to share and it was absolutely fantastic. We were attended by Georgia who provided us an amazing service and we are definitely getting back to this place ASAP.<br/><br/>13.11.15<br/>We liked these place so much that we decided to get back to another dinner. This time, we had Chicken Schnitzel, Chicken Breast with barbecue sauce, fries, mushroom and blue cheese sauce for dinner and cafe bonbon and Lemon Cheese for dessert. Not only the food was cooked to perfection but the service was absolutely fantastic. We had all meals served in 5 minutes on an extremely busy night. We were attended by Ryan this night who did an amazing job serving us great meals. On the top of that I believe this place also have one of the best prices in town for the quality of food they are delivering. For all those reasons mentioned above and the whole experience we had on this place, I feel I have no other option but change my previous review from 4.5 and give these guys the highest score possible.<br/><br/>Amazing job, please keep going like that !!!
Ryan
I cannot fault this place. food, service, atmosphere, drinks were all A1. We both got combo ribs and steak. Prob the nicest I've ever had(and I've had lots) cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. Served with beautiful garlic potatoes. Got side of delicious mushroom sauce and side of very tasty cream cheese spinach. I would recommend booking as we were lucky to get a place at the bar which I loved as you can see right into the kitchen. This place runs like clockwork, you can see that all the staff get on really well and it creates an awesome vibe to the place.
Boh
Soooooo nice~ everything is perfect!!! Very nice staff and best food ever!!! Good location with lake veiw and firework at night time~ perfect place for lamb steak!!
Troy Mortleman
Arrived here unannounced on a Monday night and was very lucky to get a table. Glad we did as the steak was excellent. Had the fillet - 200 gms of goodness. They put their own basting on the meat which gave it a lovely smoky flavour. The steak also came with fried shallots which added some crunch and texture. The "highly recommended and famous" mushroom sauce was identical to the peppercorn sauce (but with mushrooms) - not the best we've had. Service was top class - very friendly English working holiday visas. Good choice with great views to boot.

First dinner in Queenstown and we were so glad that we made reservations ! This place is popular with crowds growing during peak hours and we could tell why - the food was amazing ! We had the steak and ribs combo to share along side roasted veg. The steak was juicy and full of flavour cooked in South African style and so were the ribs. Mushroom sauce was the killer and a must order!!
Caroline Barrett
This is an absolute gem of a place right in the heart of one of my favourite New Zealand city; Queenstown.  Im not sure whether its just my love for South African food but the Boerewors role that I ordered was absolutely delicious!!!! I will be coming back here on my next visit; this place is SOO GOOD!
JimmyC
Delicious sticky ribs and awesome hot chicken wings made Flame an enjoyable night.  Service was adequate albeit perhaps a little insincere.  Big let down was the $14 Mojito cocktail that was sickly sweet from syrup and postmix rather than fresh ingredients.  Go for the meat, avoid the cocktails.

BEST STEAK house in New Zealand EVER ! flame provides great service, food and atmosphere, especially the ribs! Ribs are juicy with the BBQ sauces and I think they grill ribs with charcoal because I can taste it when I have a bite :-p super tasty steak! <br/><br/>We ordered ribs and steak combo, soup of the day with garlic break, seafood something( can't remember the name) and wedges. <br/><br/>If you come to QUEENSTOWN, you MUST try Flame Bar & Grill!
Biohazard
My favourite place for ribs in New Zealand. Large generous portions with "fall-off-the-bone" ribs by the rack or half rack (get the full rack!!) covered with the most tangy, smokey BBQ sauce. The meat is still full of flavour and juice, unlike some restaurant where they slow-cook without sauce and the meat just has no flavour, or just completely overcook and it all turns out quite dry.. They also offer disposable bib, which is quite handy when you want to get your hands dirty...<br/>Booking is recommended.
Ben Tarrant
Great food and atmosphere here at flame. The service was good and food great. Had the full rack and it had a great mushroom sauce with it. Maybe could improve on the amount of fat with cartilage on the side of the rack. Dessert was nice too.
Pop Culture Food
A place that respects meat and should be a MUST visit for any person in Queenstown. I'm not kidding, YOU NEED TO COME HERE IF YOU'RE IN QUEENSTOWN.<br/><br/>I had the Fillet Combo for lunch. I thought a 150g fillet piece was too small, but because the combo includes a whole bunch of chips, veggies AND some delectable mushroom sauce (all for $31) it is the perfect portion size and bang for buck for your tummy.<br/><br/>I like having my steaks medium rare so my expectations for the fillet was quite high. Rightfully so, the guys at Flame grilled my meat so delicately. The succulent medallion of meat I received was caramelised, red and ridiculously tender; every piece I popped into my mouth melted away and sang along with the mushroom sauce. Oh man, UTTER HEAVEN! SO GOOD.<br/><br/>What really took this restaurant to the next level was the service. Very professional, friendly, and you never had the feeling of, "Oh man, did they forget I ordered a tea as well as food?" Staff were quick to let you know that all components that you ordered were on the way shortly so that was very reassuring.<br/><br/>Don't question it, don't fight it. Meat lovers in Queenstown, gather round and rejoice. Flame will take you on the gravy train to mega mega tasty steak land. It's one train you'll never want to get off.

Came here after being recommended it by many friends. <br/><br/>The four of us ordered two mixed platters with a side of seasonal vegetables. <br/><br/>The food came out and wow. It was massive. Highlight was definitely the ribs. I'm not a fan of sausages but they were delicious. None of us really enjoyed the chicken though. <br/><br/>This place is definitely good value, and the waiters were all very friendly. <br/><br/>My favourite place in Queenstown.
Birdman
Ribs are as good as it gets. Spent money on flights and accommodation just to come to flame. Had the mixed grill which has got sausage steak and a quarter (leg) of real spicy chicken. Finished it all but real full. Absolutely faultless.

I knew that we only had one space for a steakhouse on our itinerary. We decided on Flame Bar and Grill because of the price point and consistent good reviews online. I took a risk by not booking in advance as we didn't know what time we'll be back in Queenstown after our Milford Sound tour. I wouldn't encourage doing this in Queenstown though, especially for dinners because the locals love eating out as well. We went on a Friday night and there was a big group out celebrating, if we were a few minutes late we probably wouldn't have gotten a table.<br/><br/>We shared the soup of the day which was a hearty potato and leek soup to start. It came with garlic bread which I assume was baked in house as it was terribly good. Another table ordered their cheesy garlic loaf which looked wonderful. I always see it as a good sign when a restaurant knows how to make good bread.<br/><br/>I had the Monster T-Bone cooked medium rare with roasted baby potatoes ($42.50) while my partner got the Rib and Steak combo, the steak also cooked medium rare, the meal of course came with chips ($46.50). They give you a plastic bib if you order ribs, it'll look funny at first but you'll soon find it out to be handy.<br/><br/>I thoroughly enjoyed my T-Bone steak, it was nicely rare in some parts as expected. I chose to enjoy it without any additional sauce so I can appreciate Flame's secret baste.<br/><br/>My partner's meal came nicely presented on a large wooden board. His sirloin steak was medium rare throughout with the secret baste giving a good amount of sweetness. The hero of the dish however were the ribs. They were juicy, tender, and full of flavour. If I knew that they were this good I would have ordered a full rack for myself.<br/><br/>Our dining experience at Flame Bar and Grill was one of the best we've had in Queenstown. We didn't feel that the food was overpriced as the portions were very big but the size didn't mean a lack for quality and flavour. Service was good as well, a staff member approached us after our orders were taken to apologise in advance because the food will be a bit late as they had a very big group to serve. A gesture like that is always much appreciated, and we actually didn't feel that our food took long to be served.
Excuse Me Waiter
One of the restaurants which caught our eye was Flame Bar & Grill which was packed full on the Sunday night that we got turned away, so we promptly made a booking for the next night. The menu is packed full of meaty goodness including steaks, ribs, chicken, BBQ – you name it and it’s probably there. Half the table opts for the Mixed Grill which has a generous selection of ribs, sirloin steak, 1/4 peri-peri chicken and boerewors. For what was supposedly meant to be a 1/4 chicken, it was huge! All the meats were beautifully glazed and it was the perfect platter for those who couldn’t decide what meat they wanted to eat.

One of the best steaks I've ever had. Verges cooked to perfection, finished off with truffles and English breakfast tea. Supreme meal!<br/>I recommend this place.

Great location for lovers of gargantuan portions and meat, especially BBQ. Also the atmosphere makes you feel comfortable so you can freely enjoy your meal. Waiters are going to take care of you and your food in case you going to pass out because of the great amount and excellent flavour of the meat. PS mushroom sauce is outstanding.

Fantastic service and food. They really know how to cook a great steak. Had the fillet with mushroom sauce and it was outstanding. It's not a cheap dinner but well worth the price.

Excellent place to eat. Have eaten here numerous times and never fails to disappoint. Friendly staff, and if you like quality steaks and good wine then you will find what you are looking for here. Try the full rack of ribs, excellent value if you are looking for a big feed!

Definitely worth it for meat eaters. I ate chicken with peri peri and rattle snake sauce was nice. Large portions indeed. Was not too impressed with the cheesy garlic bread. Not a go to place for vegetarians even though there are options. Nice zuchini soup. Rich food.

Meat. Meat. Meat. <br/><br/>If your a meat eater. This place is for you, from walking along the beautiful waterfront of Queenstown, walking across to this amazing entrance up to the fantastic surroundings of the South African themed restaurant. <br/><br/>Open the menu and find the meat and some Veges. That are cooked to perfection. Ribs are my choice. The rib eye is Mels. <br/><br/>This is a must in QT!!!

Always had a good feed here. My favourite is full rack of ribs. Best that I've tasted in NZ. Great atmosphere and always busy. A great success story. <br/>Highly recommended.

Food is great! I got the rack of ribs and they are some of the best ribs I've ever had. Can't remember how the service was so I'm giving 5/5 for their excellent food alone! A good place for big meals, though if you love meat I would suggest the mixed grill.

Dined at Flame Bar &amp; Grill on 3/10/13. When we arrived, we were seated and our drink order was taken promptly. We didn't get our drinks for 15mins though. Our waiter was friendly enough, he didn't make any general conversation and it seemed he was uncomfortable. His presence was there the whole evening.<br/><br/>We ordered the Tiger Prawns as an entree. These were presented AMAZINGLY and tasted even better! We would highly recommend! It was a shame it took almost an hour for the entrees to come out.. For the main, we shared the Rib &amp; Steak Combo with fries and mushroom sauce. Thankfully this didn't take as long to come out as the entrees. We had high standards for the ribs, and Flame Bar &amp; Grill cooked them to perfection! They were SO GOOD, way better than any other ribs we have had! I can see why people rave on about them! We asked for the steak to be MR and it came WD which was disappointing. Once telling our waiter this he instantly took it away and got us a new steak with complimentary ribs! The 2nd steak was cooked to perfection and was amazing with the mushroom sauce. <br/><br/>We were so full we didn't get dessert. <br/><br/>I would recommend booking a few nights in advance. Although the food did take a very long time to come out, it was all worth it as the food was delicious.

Dined at Flame Bar &amp; Grill on 19/7/13. When we arrived, we were seated and a drinks order taken promptly. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks available. She remained attentive throughout the evening. Got seafood entrees which were both very good. For main, had the fillet (cooked blue) which was done very well - still red but warm in the middle. Dessert was a sorta ice-cream cocktail, can't remember what it was but was good as well.

Visited Flame for dinner during a week's stay in Queenstown last month and were intrigued by the promotion of South African cuisine on the chalkboard. Not knowing anything about the place, whether or not it was popular, we simply wandered in and discovered we were very lucky to turn up when we did, as it became very full about 15 minutes later! The menu 'strongly recommended' ordering the mushroom dip with our chips, so we played along, and OMG, it was delish!! Huge portions, very tasty burgers and chips and good service. Not cheap but worth it. It's a family-style restaurant which apparently gets very busy at the height of the skiing season so it might be wise to call ahead and book if you're there right now.

Read all the good reviews and thought this would be a great place to spend a bit of cash for a nice anniversary dinner. Booked about 2 weeks in advance and asked for a great table with view and stated it was for our anniversary. We felt we got stuck in the corner, service was terrible, it was like we wern't even there, brought us the wrong drinks twice (but yet did not even ask if we would like a refill of our empty glasses?) food was ok but everything else let the whole evening down, was sad to leave very disappointed and feeling a bit ripped off.

My favourite restaurant in Queenstown!<br/>Everytime I visit it is a must do on my list. The basting on the steak is delicious, ribs very tender, garlic bread oozing with flavour. You must try the mushroom sauce to dip you chips in - its sensational! Although on a few occasions I have had to send my steak back for being over done, it is still worth it as when they get it right, the taste is well worth the wait.<br/>Try the Dom Pedro dessert cocktail, a sweet treat to top the meal off with that will make you wanting to recreate it at home!<br/>Can't wait to go back again!

Return customers .... this was our second trip to Queenstowns <br/>and yes a definite for everyone to dine at the flame bar. food and service is excellent really hard to get a table for walk in Suggestion make sure you book a table. we had share for two people meal ribs, lamb and sirloin steak with potatoes <br/>and we couldn't finish it very big portions <br/>Recommend it to all we enjoyed our food.....

Visited Flame 6th May around 7.30pm not thinking we would need a booking. Boy was I wrong. Luckily we were able to get a table for 2. Couldnt beleive the amount of customers that were still arriving for a meal. This place certainly is the "Place to be" in Queenstown. especially if you love meat.<br/><br/>My partner had the Ribs, which were delicious. While I had the Sirlion Rare with the chilli sauce, thats some good sauce. <br/><br/>Highly recommend and will be back next time im down there.

We went there as a group of 12 and was delighted with their private balcony. The food was superb and most of all, our waitress (Sarah) was just fantastic! We couldn't compliment her enough! I have never written a review about a restaurant before but Flame Bar &amp; Grill definitely deserves a big thumbs up!

A FANTASTIC place to dine out if you are staying in Queenstown but would not recommend if you are trying to save on the money. <br/>The portions are huge but the service was not the best and had to wait a pretty long time for any food to arrive.

My husband and I had dinner at your fabulous establishment the first night we arrived in Queenstown over the Labour weekend and were blown away from the moment we stepped in!!<br/>As an ex-South African , I can honestly say that I haven’t found many restaurants to rave about, up until now.<br/>My hubby and I shared between us the rib &amp; steak combo as well as the rib, calamari, boerewors and chicken wing platter, both meals were to die for! <br/>We also enjoyed our African Sunset cocktails, which were perfect.<br/>We thought the bib was a lovely touch too.<br/>The restaurant had a lovely ambience and a cozy, comfortable design.<br/>We found the staff and service friendly and efficient, keep up the good work guys!

Our second night in QT we thought we would try flame and I have to say we were not all that impressed. I am a ribs man and the Flame ribs are nothing to write home about, the sauce tasted like it was from a bottle. Service was good though.

Well, these reviews promised a lot. but really, steak and a potato for $38?!! We like to eat out but it is pretty basic.

Wow what a place. We love everything about our dining experience here. Great friendly service (thanks to all concerned). The food was beautiful and melted in our mouths. LOVE the ribs! Just like being back in Africa. Great cocktail selection and a small wine list but all the bases are covered very well and to have them all available by the glass is a bonus. We can't wait to return.

Absolutely the best. All NZ restaurant owners/workers should come to this restaurant and see how it is done. Brilliant food. Excellent service. I think the guy that took our order and served us might have been an owner. He was outstanding. If he was not an owner he would get top dollar working in the worlds best restaurants. The place was buzzing with people.....staff smiling and looked like they actually enjoyed their job. Food was simply the best.

This place is simply amazing! The ribs are like nothing ive tasted before and would recommend them to anyone! They even come complete with a Flame bib so you can really get stuck in! The atmosphere is just what Queenstown needs, making sure you enjoy your time from start to finish! The service is exceptional and the cocktail creations are amazing and unique! Nothing is boring about this place, I could eat there every night if I could! A Dom Pedro is a must!!!

If you love your steak, Flame is the place to be. They offer a wide selection of different types of cuts of meat and all the sauces to match. By far the best place for good grub in Queenstown.

There is no question in my mind that Flame and Grill Bar provides an amazing eating experience. We have been there on a number of occasions, and always come away totally satisfied, having eaten some of the most delicious meals one can get in New Zealand. The prices are right, the service is exemplary, the food is exquisite, and the ambiance is wonderful. <br/>As a rule I dreaded bring asked "Where does one dine in Queenstown?" Having eaten at Flame and Grill Bar, I no longer have that quandary, as now I always answer:Flame and Grill Bar of course!

I recently dined in Flame Bar and Grill for a friends birthday.<br/>The service was above and beyond excellent standards! The staff were polite and officiant upon arrival and to the end of our meal. They were very accommodating to our needs. <br/>The food was fantastic. We had the Fillet, Seafood Platter, Mixed Grill and Rib and Steak. The Steaks were cooked to perfection and the Seafood was tasty and fresh. The ribs were to die for. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone!<br/>They had a great variety of wines from around the globe which suited all our palettes. To end out meal we had a Dom Pedro and a Vanilla Pannacotta which finished the meal nicely. They were delicious and the presentation was outstanding!<br/>I would recommend Flame Bar and Grill to anyone for that special South African experience.

Flame Bar and Grill on Beach Street right on the lake with the Remarkables in the background offers the full package when it comes to great food. A lively buzzy room and spectacular location with great views. Where the cocktails are always flowing. The cooks prepare a feast always including some of my favourite tastes - pork ribs with their secret sauce being my favourite. Friendly service and going the extra mile makes it my chosen dining experience in Queenstown.

One of my all time favourite restaurants for dinning out here in Queenstown, not only is the food exceptional everytime my partner and I go there, the atmosphere and the vibe of the place makes you feel at home. It is very inviting and the friendly staff and management make your stay even more enjoyable&gt; I rate this restaurant a 5 star but can easily give it a rating of 10.
