Review Bombay Palace - Queenstown

Jarius Wong
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic Indian restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience. We ordered garlic naan, chicken saagwala, and butter chicken, and each dish exceeded our expectations. The chicken in both the saagwala and butter chicken was incredibly tender, and the curries were bursting with flavor. However, the real standout was the butter chicken—it absolutely blew my mind. It's a must-try that I can't recommend enough. I'm so impressed with this restaurant that I plan to visit again before I leave town. If you're looking for exceptional Indian cuisine, this place is a gem. Don't miss out!

Pleasantly surprised. Was expecting run of the mill average Indian. However walking in you can immediately smell the right kind of spices in the air. When the food finally came the flavours were virtually exploding in my mouth. The curries tasted very authentic and I can highly recommend their lamb shank curry. (Look on the menu in the specialty curries) was a much needed flavour overload. I have a tendency to search the 1 star reviews and get paranoid. If you are the same don't worry. Food came out slightly slow but was more than worth it. They are also super busy! Yum yum yum I am incredibly satisfied right now writing from within the restaurant. (Price is Food no alcohol but in my opinion very reasonable for Queenstown)

The food in this restaurant is really lovely especially in a cold winter day. We are a 6-people party and ordered different curries. All the species are right and lovely and we love the food so much and everything is very affordable as well. Highly recommend it to anyone who’s visiting Queenstown!

Was craving for some Indian food and decided to give this place a shot. Left the restaurant with happy bellies, fully satisfied with the quality of the food and service of the staff! Highly recommend coming down if you’re ever in the city area. The portions are on the larger side too:) Every penny was worth it!

Possibly the best Indian food I’ve ever had. Ordered the goat curry house specialty, Indian hot and it was delicious! Lamb samosas also a favorite and the garlic nann yummm!
Sanjit Roy
High quality food. Especially the achari fish tikka was amazing. Worth multiple visits 😀

Very friendly and accommodating. No mention of dairy free or vegan on the menu but the waiter quickly let us know which items were dairy free. The vegetable samosas are the biggest I’ve ever seen. Naan bread is also quite big, not the small pieces like we get in Australia. They also have a yummy eggplant curry which not all Indian restaurants have.

Best authentic Indian food in qtown so far. I been eating here for years! Highly recommended veg navaratan korma and murgh bombay masala! :)

Thinking of Indian Cuisine while in Queenstown, Bombay Palace is the perfect choice. One can’t describe the aroma & flavour at this place without visiting for lunch/dinner. Non-veg & veg preparations were mouthwatering. Vide choice all giving flavour of spices. Since the place is busy one won’t mind bit of wait until your favourite dish arrives. Front staff & the Manger are very cordial & caring. This was my second visit to Queenstown & I had the opportunity to enjoy the delicacy with my family. Over & above they maintained the quality even after 5 years. I wish them Keep Going.

Lovely service and the food was delicious. We shared meals and loved every single one! We particularly liked the Goan fish curry, so good! The mango lassi was great, too. The interior could be a bit cuter, less old school. Otherwise, definitely recommended!

We had an absolutely delicious meal here - flavorful and authentic with good wine and a great playlist - and all of the staff here deserve a medal. The restaurant was slammed and they were all working so hard and efficiently and remained pleasant the whole time. Puneet at the front was really great - his multitasking abilities and memory for names and faces is impressive. The kitchen didn’t look large so I don’t know how the chefs managed to prepare all of the food to feed all those many hungry tables but somehow they did. Definitely recommend eating here if you get the chance!

Friendly service, staff are very accomodating, food is delicious and generous portion. It’s great that they are also able to adjust the spice level so that my colleagues that can’t handle spiciness can still enjoy a meal with me.
David Blackwell
Loved the naan bread, the mango lassi was also delicious. They were very busy and the atmosphere was good. We had 3 curries including the Lamb Korma, they food was very good. They did forget our onion bhaji, but the food we ordered was definitely enough. Highly recommend if you are near Queenstown central.

This is easily the best Indian restaurant in town. I go to Bombay several times a week and it never disappoints. Excellent food, very friendly service and a great atmosphere! I highly recommend the chicken madras and a cheese garlic naan, they are the best!
Abhay Mishra
Loved the food, especially their tandoori rotis and Naan - cooked to perfection and I appreciated that each curry had its own flavour profile. The way it should be and staff/manager are very accomodating. We will be coming back to this place for sure.

The food was delicious and very well presented. We were served well by Mr. Shatrughan who suggested us good options while ordering food. We ordered Chiken Tikka masala, Goat Biryani & Naan.Overall very nice place to go with family & friends. Thank you

Great location, friendly staff and good food. We tried their both restaurants in the area and the taste is consisten. Even though we didn’t have a reservation and the restaurant was full, the staff called us back from the street to accomodate us due to a last minute cancellation. Really appreciate the gesture and I’d like to thank them as our kids were extremely hungry. Highly recommended.

Authentic indian flavours. The dal makhani and paneer tikka were finger licking good.
The price may be a tiny bit higher but worth the quality and quantity.
Courteous staff.
Recommended.

Stop for a moment and imagine this. Amazing service and great food. I am so happy and please to write to this review. When we arrived at the restaurant we were so hungry! In fact we arrived on the dot at 5 pm ready to order a feast! It was 2 of us. We ordered masala papad. This was amazing! Seriously. For mains we ordered dal makhani, palak paneer and 2 tandoori roti and 1 naan. Also masala raita and a kingfisher beer! The food was pretty good. Spice level. Okay this was a good surprise. As you read the menu you’ll see there’s mild, medium, hot and Indian hot. For us the hot was perfect. In fact we thought it was the Indian not. I guess we have become westernised! Haha we ordered the makhani as hot and the palak paneer as Indian hot. The palak paneer was definitely spicy. But it had great flavour. I think hot is good enough. The tandoori roti was good. It was a little crispy which I think is expected. So we ordered naan. And I so happy that Puneet who might be the manager there or the owner asked us if we are pure vegetarian and told us that the naan has egg in it. This is the kind of service we want. Thanks Puneet for the excellent service. You guys are doing a great job. Asking simple questions like where are you from and giving dietary information is just what we need. The only one thing I would say and I don’t want it has the word negative because it’s not. Is that the masala raita was sweet. Which I think it should not be. But this is so minute that it doesn’t matter. Just a suggestion to not add sugar to the raita 🤗

Great food
Love the vegetarian dishes

I went there with my family and we ordered dal makhani and kadai panner for dinner. The food was really good and species were just perfect 😊 However, we ordered paneer and aloo parathas as take away. Didn't like it at... Too dry and hardly any stuffing..that was waste of money.

Must say the chicken tikka took me back to Delhi. Hats off to the chef. Good sized serving for the curry as well. 👍🏼

Very bad experience for the first time in Bombay palace . (The town one ) I made the booking for first table with a guy from Nepal I think he is the manger there . He didn’t tell me that there is no such thing called first table and he said first table booking is reserved for you mam. I co formed with him that should I do it online as well he said no need mam I have done it for you . I confirmed it with him but he again said it’s done madam . Don’t worry . When I reached there I waited for 15 mins for the table. And we got the food after 1 an half hour which was fine but when I went to pay the bill he gave me a wrong table bill . Secondly I asked him sir it was first table booking where is my discount and he started arguing with me so much and started telling me no there is no offer like this and that . When I asked him while booking the first table why didn’t you tell me his reply was no man I don’t know anything but there is nothing like that. No offer . Instead of being sorry that he didn’t understand that what does first table means , he was arguing with me and trying to put blame back on me. I would like to ask the respected owner or the person who is in higher position please do explain that person what does first table means . So that he didn’t repeat that with the other customer . And respect the customers and do not lie . Thanks

Beware - If you are Indian and if wish to be disrespected and mistreated than only go to this place. They will give you the place to sit upstairs (besides bathroom) We visited this place and politely requested to have a sitting down staircase because of our elder parents. The manager falsely said that they have online bookings and tables are booked. While we noted that even after we finished dinner no new guest to be seen. Manager should have basic hospitality etiquettes to consider request of already in-house guests instead of keeping better sitting for ‘anticipated’ guest. Food is very average quality- NOT Recommended All.
Neha Soni
Not at all entertaining guests especially Indians. We went last nite and asked the manager for Vegetarian Jain food the manager immideiately said no that it will be 1 hour waiting . Than today in evening around 5.30 we went the manager knew our face inspite of giving us the table he told 1 hour waiting & the very next moment he told us to left . So bad attitude. Can't go where they can't welcome Indians.

A must visit if you are a fan of Indian food.

Loved their tandoori platter, lamb roganjosh and the naan. The restaurant ambience is very good and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

Definitely recommend this place.👌

Visit only when you are not hungry! Been here today, we were travelling from Milford sound and wanted to have some good Indian food. Waited for 10 minutes to be seated - waited another 45 minutes for the food to come!! Food was good and was extremely busy for take away. Won’t come back here.

We really enjoyed our indian meal here, superb yummy food, we ordered Paneer Butter Masala and butter naan. One butter naan is sufficient for 2 people
It’s a good decent, legit indian place here in Queenstown. Ive been here for a holiday and I was craving for an indian restaurant. Rating was good so I gave it a go. Im glad that I did, it exceeded my expectation!
Marich
Trusted Zomato’s rating for this restaurant but it was disappointing. I’m surprised how it’s rated 3.8.
We waited 40 minutes from our order time to the main course arrival time. They said they had lots of takeaway orders and downstairs was full. We think they should have put on more stuff. Malai Kofta is g favourite Indian dish but this one was very floury and there were no nuts or fruit discernible except a few raisins. Mushroom capsicum shimla dish was good though. Staff very nice.
Ajay Shah
Had been there on busy day but service and food are at very high standard. Thanks guys. Your Paneer kadhai, Dal Tarka and stuffed naan best thing I have ever had.
Axl
We reserved 10 minutes before showing up. No problem. Quaint. Friendly staff. Good food. They even dialled up the hotness of the food on demand. I'll go again.
Rekha Kalro
Was waiting at the door to get a table for 4 and an Indian Waiter slammed the door on me and my family's face! Just saying there are no tables would have been a polite way than this kind of behavior.

Excellent and authentic food. Lovely, friendly staff and nice ambience to boot. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great Indian food experience- whatever be your spice tolerance, they've got you covered. Super yum food!!

We used this app and Google reviews to find a curry house in Queenstown. This was one of 2 that had great ratings but we chose this one as it looked more inviting. We shared poppadom and samosas to start. So yum. We both had bhunas for main- lamb and chicken. I have never had so much chicken in one dish. It was very generous. The naan was Great, also a very generous size. Would defianately seek this place out when we come back.

Best indian food had in whole new zealand...if you are an indian and desperately needs to satisfy ur indian taste buds than this is the place.we had chicken biryani and it felt like i was eating in my town jaipur.

Their are many options for Indian food in new Zealand but this one is different from the rest. The most unique thing which i found here was the polite and welcoming service which is generally very rare in New Zealand's Indian restaurants. The sṭaaf is very good and helpful.
About the food, its 100% authentic Indian food. We tried both vegetarian and non vegetarian everything was damm tasty. The naan & roti's are awesome. Butter chicken is mind blowing. Jeera rice is pretty good.
100% recommended
When you are craving for authentic indian mughali food this is the place to be. I was there in queenstown for 3 days and every night i use to have dinner here. Never had such authentic indian food in india also. Daal makhani was out of the box
Vats
We had dinner here yesterday and were quite disappointed. We had ordered yellow dal tadka, aloo gobhi with gravy and few naans. The order was just regular Indian food which does not require any expertise to cook. Any average Indian house hold cooks these items much tastier than what we had there ! Secondly, we were told that gravies come with basmati rice as accompaniment. Well, there rice was pathetic, to say the least.
These guys are fleecing people in the name of Indian cuisine while the truth is that they cant even cook regular Indian dishes !
Must avoid !!

Ambient atmosphere, nice food
Bhuna chicken, channa Masala. Lachcha Parantha, naan
Naan were better than paranthas
Will certainly go there again during my stay

My wife and I were in New Zealand recently for our honeymoon, from India. We explored the whole of North island and almost half of South island but could not really find a decent Indian restaurant, until we reached Bombay Palace in Queenstown. We feel lucky to have run into Bombay Palace since some of the items that we had here tasted better than the same in India. Earlier in the day we skydived from 15000ft so we treated ourselves to some meat, yellow daal, rice and naans for our achievement. The bhuna chicken was incredibly sumptuous, aromatic, tender and came in the perfect thick gravy, which took me right back to Karol Bagh. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a desi culinary experience.

Got takeaway from this restaurant around New Years (peak time), but was prepared in under 20mins. Delicious food, generous portions especially the garlic naan! We ordered a butter chicken, vegetable korma, chicken madras and samosas. The spiciness of the curries were just as requested (mild & medium), and were delicious.
Only stopped over on our holiday, but would definitely visit again! Very impressed, thank you!
Rathirah
Worst place to eat. Tasteless food . Poor service. No sense of Indian spices.
Advice for them to appoint a good chef. And provide better food.
Visited this month when on holiday in Queenstown
Ordered dal , Korma and waited potatao..
Curries are super awesome in taste.
But lachha paratha is so thick and really undercooked
Same with naan...
The best part they do provide some curries without onion and garlic..

Services was ok as only manager was there no one else so he is quite busy in attending other customers
Must visit for some fantastic curries.
Great food and service at Bombay Palace. Some of the best Indian we have had and they had a great kids menu for a fussy 9 year old fussy eater.
I'm Hungry
Good food, very good ambience. Loved the interiors and decor of the place. Even though it was mid week the place was buzzing and fully packed. That did not stop the awesome staff to serve on time. Very crowded but did not bother us as food and service was great. Even got some special Wednesday night discounts.
Prashant Thakur
Not so great Indian food. Ordered Fish curry, it seemed like the curry was made separately in bulk and fish was simply added later on...no flavour of curry in the fish. Worst Goa Fish curry ever.
Boncaz
Delicious, good sized servings and efficient service.
Standouts were the kadai paneer and the rogan josh. We had the banquet and would definitely recommend it to others :)

One of the worst restaurants I have seen waiting long for takeaway. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL .Manager is busy just with till and cash. Poor service at all
Anna
I ate dinner here at about 6:15pm on a weekday night, and I had a wonderful time. My table ordered two chicken curries (both served with rice) and two naans (garlic naan, and cheese-and-garlic naan).

All the food was delicious, but the naan in particular deserves special attention - I think it is the best naan I have ever had! Very garlic-y and with hot oil (the yummy kind, not the gross kind), and a nice balance between toppings and the bread itself.

The service was excellent - the food was brought hot to us very quickly (within 15 minutes) and twice while eating, the waiters stopped by to ask if everything was good. Keep in mind that the restaurant was also full at this point, with people waiting in the hallway for tables, yet the service remained excellent. The ambiance and the prices were well-matched to the food/service, and I would definitely come back here again!
Shreyas
The best I ever had:
1. Butter chicken
2. Chicken tikka masala
3. Biryani
4. Breads
5. Rice
6. Dal
All of them freshly prepared, served hot, and very well prepared
Had to wait long for what we ordered but was not disappointed at all as it definitely makes sense. You have the best chef and flavors, Keep up guys
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
If you are here and really feel like a piece of India? Look no further, I came here on a Wednesday night at 9:20 it was so busy, it's quiet a small restaurant with a lot of tables but don't worry it has its own amazing Indian feel. The atmosphere is amazing, what made my experience just the little bit more authentic was a Indian lady in the table opposite with her child about 5 or 6 years old teaching over the table shovelling food down this threat with her right hand. It made me feel like I was in India. The restaurant has nice Bollywood music playing in the background, the staff are on the ball the minute u walk through the door! There very friendly and polite.

The food was so amazing with lost of fish in my curry normally I find with Indian restaurants is it's all gravy and hardly any meat well this was the opposite about of fish. The only down fall was my cheesy garlic nan bread not very balanced it was cheese all on one side it could of been more spread out lucky it was only me eating other wise if you where sharing someone could of ended up with the half with no cheese. The food is amazing though so give it go. What do u have to lose nothing u will love it I promise u. If you do Wednesday all curry's are 15:00 other wise mine would of Coast 27 full price,

After so long in NZ had great Authentic Indian tasting dinner. We ordered amazing chana masala and dal tadka tandoori roti and Naan. Masala poppadoms is a must try thing if you love spicy food. Although dal tadka was not so good but chana masala did it all. Must visit place

Went here with my mom for dinner today. I've ordered a fish curry which is really nice!!!! Medium hot is just right for me:) and most importantly, Wednesday night all curries are only $14, mine was $23.9 original price. It's quiet worthy!!!!

In case you want to go back to Indian cuisine during your trip, Bombay palace is the place to be. The decor is good and menu is quite elaborate.. I would have liked the service to be a faster though and a a tad cheaper for a quality of food.
FoodieCCC
Highly recommend. Absolutly 5 out of 5.
Had the cheese and garlic naan and the chicken naan, I liked the cheese one better. Prawn curry was bloody tasty. The atmosphere inside was so good!

Very satisfying meal at Bombay Palace. Food was delightful. We had Tandoori platter for two people along with Kadai Paneer and Naan - nicely prepared. Although place feels a bit cramped but it has its own character.
Lily
Really really nice Indian restaurant. The chicken tandoori was really nice. I loved it. The lamb madras was also amazing. The staff are really polite and welcoming. It's a busy restaurant but has enough chairs. From the outside, it doesn't seem much. But the food and everything is really great. I'll definitely go there again.

A must stop by for one of the best Indian cuisine in all over Queenstown and in South Island of NZ.

Amazing taste and wide variety of options to choose from and yes a lot veg options

THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
So yummy, delicious, homely, tasty and it leaves you wanting more. We ordered vegetable samosas, prawn jalfrezi, butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan and plain naan. The service was very good and everyone was super friendly. There is a TV so if people want to watch Indian music videos they can:) I was very impressed with the food and I would definitely come back. The set up is really nice and the whole atmosphere is very homely and warm. I recommend this restaurant for everyone who wants to come eat Indian. Bombay Palace is a really great restaurant and you won't regret it!
Amanda O'Sullivan
We had Chicken Vindaloo. Mine was 'hot' and it was perfect, the meat was not too fatty - it was just right. Service was very nice as well. Garlic naan was yum, would go back if in Queenstown.
Pri_G
Pretty average food. Chicken was very dry and curries were quite bland. No lunch menu options which is pretty standard for NZ restaurants so we ended up paying dinner time prices for lunch. Plus they had a massive traveling group at the same time we were there which made restaurant very noisy.
The Vegetarian Friend
Bombay palace!!!
Probably the best place for a nice Mughlai meal in queens town.
We had seen this place and instantly decided to come here for to give our taste buds a reminisce of the masala and spicy Indian food.
First thing we ordered for is the samosa on the menu which were really good and tasted just too good.
Next we called for the paneer tikka which to my surprise was better than the one served in copper chimney in Bombay, the planner was nice and soft with the perfect marination of proper Indian spices.
For the main course we called for the chole(Chana)and mixed vegetable(veg kolhapuri) with black daal (daal makhani)and I was just blown away with the taste of all three.
Chole- they were well cooked not left hard not too soft just perfect to eat.The right amount of "harami masala" the right amount of everything just tasted like I was in India.
Mixed vegetable- the vegetables were well mixed and the semi gravy tasted nice and spicy.
Black daal- again can give copper chimney and Peshawari a tough competition in terms of taste and texture.
The naans and the rotis were well made and had no complaints with the taste.
Taste, ambience and of course the staff here is very polite and helping and the sevice too is quick but they at the same time they let you enjoy the place.
Charlie Whitaker
Just finished a seriously brilliant meal. Wednesday curry night $14 for every curry. My 8yr old had the chicken cashew curry and devoured the whole thing without any prompting - pretty rare for him.
We had the lamb madras, chicken kathai, channa masala and Bombay potatoes. All delicious. 1/2 point deducted for a bit of a wait for the mains and the 40" tv playing Bollywood music videos - very watchable but distracting in a restaurant.
Mansi Trivedi
I just didn't like their koftas. The entrees were yum. It was with spinach and corn. Naans were alright . Seems to be nice place from outside but it just didnt click ! May be I was not in luck . Try it you may find it good.
Abdullah Hamad
We ordered, "Butter Chicken in Delhi style", "Lamb Curry", "Prowns Curry", "Lamb Briyani", "Starter Grilled Prowns" and "Nans".
Everything were delicious, tasty and the staff was so good.

Located in Central Queenstown. Friendly staff. Indian styled interiors. Cosy ambiance. The food was excelent, especialy the Kebabs and curries.

PS - They serve Halal meat (as per their claim)

Been there a couple of times ...
Loved the food, hospitality , location and everything
Any one who loves Indian food Must really try out here ...
The veg biryani was really yummy
Must better than the most of the places u get in India
Really liked it :)))

Great service and fantastic food. Had the shared meal for two which consisted of mixed starter (very tasty) and a choice of 3 mains. Comes with rice and naan. Meat was very tender and beautifully done. Well looked after by the staff

Bombay palace is a restaurant that is always packed and full, though we were lucky to be seated as soon as we arrived, since it was an early dinner. The servers were quick, the ambiance pretty much takes you back in time, in a good way. The food was tasty though I bit too spicy even for those Indians who relish spicy meals. We ordered paneer butter masala and Channa masala and the gravy tasted good but was loaded with ample of Garam masala, making it spicy hot. Over all food was good.
What I didn't like was being charged 3.50$ for sliced onions. Come on, are you not suppose to give that without even being asked ?
Over all Rating 3.5/5
Mahak Agarwal
A very nice place for indians to have their cuisine outside india. Decently cooked vegetables served with rice.
Roti's though being very big in size not seen this size in India, i think they should inform about it.
Very. Friendly staff, loved the food and service.

The urge to have some spicy Indian food got us here. The food tasted great. We ordered a Roti platter, biryani, paneer Masala, dal makhani and aloo subzi. We were initially a little sceptical about how the food will taste but boy it was as good as any famous restaurant back home! Amazing food!

One negative though- they should have what we call Indian portions for the same food . We wasted a lot of food as the quantity was plain too much for the two of us.
Deepak Sharma
Best indian food in Queenstown.. More than what I expected. Best part was the ambiance, the whole indian touch with ofcourse indian music as well..

We recently visited Queenstown for a 4-day trip and dined here on our first night. Service upon entering was welcoming and friendly and we were seated immediately. We ordered a glass of sav blanc, garlic naan to share, chicken jalfrezi and chicken madras.
The garlic naan bread was lovely. Very garlicky, full of flavour and more than enough for 2! The chicken curry main dishes were again full of flavour and delicious - the best we have had in New Zealand! The curries were quite oily but that is to be expected.
Overall we had a really nice dinner here, made great by the wonderful food and hospitality. Had we have been in Queenstown for longer we would definitely have visited again!

Delicious food and friendly, attentive service. We ordered Fish Tikka, Kadhai Paneer, Aloo Paratha, and Naan. The food was flavoursome and the atmosphere pleasant and relaxing. Good light levels. I definitely recommend coming here for dinner.

A good place to enjoy Indian food in ShotOver Street. Though there was nothing exceptional in the taste of any food delicacy.
But it was good ok types Indian food in foreign land with lots of options in menu.

If you miss 'chai' being out there. You can have it there your very own Masala Chai.

Indian food in a foreign land is a great comfort. Especially a famished family who have travelled mountain after mountain to reach this small beautiful place. The ambience is simple with a background of bollywood music running on which matches the name of

Didn't want to venture into any starters. Directly ordered garlic naans, lachcha paratha, aloo paratha. A malai kofta lover I am. So didn't get to try anything else. Dad's a spice lover, so kadai veg it is. Excellent soft koftas and a rich and creamy sauce. My son's first naan ever and that too in a foreign land. And he loved it. Just the breads were more than enough to fill our stomachs.

Gulab jamun for the sweet tooth. Hot and yummy. Fully satiated and back to the motel for a peaceful sleep.

While in foreign land, we often miss having authentic Indian food. And this place in Queenstown treats you right when you are craving for some Indian food. The quantity of the food and taste both are awesome. We had opted for a combo meal. We were delighted with the samosas, pakoras, and the chutneys they served as a part of starters. For the main course we had ordered dal makhni and veg jalfrezi and one non veg curry. Each and every item had the right mix of spices. It was even better than some of the Indian restaurants that we have in India. Keep up the good work Bombay Palace !!! Shubham Gupta

Awesome food with awesome service. Right mixtures of flavours with good indian music. liked the service as they wanted to make sure that our requirements are being met whether it was a small modifications in our thali or small requests on table. Enjoyed a good tasting selection of mild flavoured curries and some tasty very garlicy naan. Price for 4 people with a couple of beers and an L&P came to about $100 so pretty well priced I feel. The decor is cosy and warm. Service was spot on too. Worth a look if you are passing and hungry.

Went here for dinner the other night with my friend. I must say easily one of the best Indian restaurants in South Island! The food was delicious and everything was cooked to perfection. The service was friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our food even though it was really busy. Highly recommend this place!

Warm, friendly, welcoming restaurant with a great selection of classic Indian Cuisine.
One of my all time favourites here in town.

Best Tip: Check out the two for one local specials for both lunch and dinner and the Wednesday $14.00 any choice curry.

Best Bite: Don't forget to try the amazing array of Naan and the refreshing Raita Yoghurt Sauce.
Bombay Palace is a kind of Oasis for Indian foodies in Queenstown where cost of dinning out is 25% more than anywhere else in NZ. As most of the customers are tourists and may dine only once in one particular restaurant I felt a lack of quality and service in few Indian places I visited but this was certainly not the case with Bombay palace. They do not have a board or advertisement outside promoting any happy hours or discounts but once when you try them you will always go back if ever you plan to visit Queenstown again or if you want to have Indian again in your short/long stay.
We had Tandoori mixed platter to start with and I couldnt find a fault. It was tender, perfectly spiced and generous serving. I had my ususal chicken saag for mains and we also ordered Bhuna Chicken and Rogan Josh. All the curries were exactly how I would like them to taste and were no different than if I was dinning in an Indian restaurant in India. There was no shortage of spice and every curry was bursting with flavours, spices and aroma. The staffs are also very friendly and knowledgeable so do not hesitate to take their recommendation. I will definitely visit them next time when I am in Queenstown.

Great food and friendly service! Timely too, they're busy during peak seasons so I would call ahead.
The good experience is also facilitied by the welcoming atmosphere established via good music and decor

very arrogant and rude behaviour from staff, we have been refused for dine-in because of baby stroller, as we have been told there is no room for baby stroller or baby capsule....didn't expect this from dine-in restaurant....

U'll not get the typical indian spicy food wen ur not in india which is for sure but dat can b adjusted if we get a tasty chicken curry wid naan n rice, yummy samosas n awsum lamb kebabs. Because of which we had dinner at this place almost 5 times (not in a row). The place is nicely decorated wid bollywood songs in the background. It is packed wid the local people n foreign tourists enjoying their butter chicken n masala chicken n rice wid knife n fork ;) The footfal of indian customers is only 30% as told by a worker there. A rating of 4 just because our indian tongue n taste wil not compromise so mch :P

Most pathetic place I've ever been to. It took them an hour to bring our order of 1 palak paneer along with 3 tandoori roti's we had ordered and we weren't informed about this delay at the time of ordering that it would take them this long to just serve the tiny order we had placed. We asked them after 40 min's of patiently waiting and the answer we could get was 'sorry have no idea will have to check.' When our food finally arrived after an hour or so, the palak paneer tasted as if though mint chutney had been added to i making it tangy in taste which it isn't supposed to by defaulttand we eventually understood it was probably packeted/canned. In our hunger, we subsided that fact and kept on eating...my partner asked for a few sliced onions and they came and upon having them i realized those were stale and i said my partner to not have them as they didn't seem fresh at all. We finally chose to self check out as it may have took them another hour to bring the bill and the change back. So upon doing that, i saw the bill and saw an added charge of 3 dollars for those stale onions they had served and the Indian guy at the counter told me it was onion salad which seemed completely stupid as it wasn't a salad at the first place and upon asking them why did ot take so long, the answer came was we have many orders in place and i asked them back that were they understaffed, he says me they have 4 chefs. Yeah sure that's the reason it took you guys an hour to serve our tiny order. Anyway, i didn't want to argue any further and just ended up paying the bill.

Food : Pathetic
Service : Unattentive & Uncourteous
Pricing : Irrational

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. PATHETIC ISN'T THE WORD!!!
We were in Frankton, Queenstown for 2 days and we took away on the first evening from Bombay Palace. The pepper chicken hardly had any pepper on it - it was succulent but we missed the pepper.
The lamb biryani was fab and tasted so much better the next day.

I am a local to Queenstown and I eat here as my local indian restaurant. We have always had great experience with the food and the service. Takeaways are prepared quickly and always ready for pickup when we show up.

Food has great flavor and is well presented, can absolutely recommend this restaurant. The Handai Lamb is the terrific!

Most unmemorable meal. Never before have we experienced our whole meal reheated in a microwave when dining out at a restaurant. Friday night 6.30pm you would expect to see chefs flat out preparing cooking etc, instead these guy's were standing around waiting for the microwave to ding, shove their fingers in to see if hot enough then transferring to a lovely brass dish to present at our table. We felt like walking out but because we had ordered the meal felt obliged to stay and suffer through it.
Definitely wouldn't go back and won't recommend to anyone!!
