Review The Exchange - Queenstown

M R
I enjoyed coming to this Caffè whilst I was in Queenstown. Their coffee was great I think the best mocha in town for me. Also the food was always on point and good portion! I loved their eggs benedict with bacon and I tried their leek and potato soup was also great. The staff was always friendly and made me feel welcomed, definitely best coffee and brunch in town.

Great big breakfast, both tasted equally delicious and the coffee was amazing too. Staff and service were friendly and quick.

Really nice place for breakfast. The morena bowl with coconut yogurt was really fresh! The beetroot latte was interesting, might have been the chai powder in it so I think it’s just personal taste! Food arrived not long after ordering.

The food was delicious, and the waffles looked amazing! We ordered the flat white with coconut milk, it is best to drink it with something savory/umami. I personally took some pictures to show you!

Although there seem to be a lot of reviews for pancakes, there weren'tany on the menu, and when we asked they said they didn'tdo pancakes. Maybe something they have taken off the menu? Had waffles myself - great tasting and big serving (although I think my partner ordered two waffles instead of one). My partner had crumpets and bacon, which she loved, and the bretzel got a good review, too. The coffee was also very good. The staff were super friendly. My partner couldn't rate them highly enough. Was a bit hard to find at first.

Came to The Exchange two days in a row because their food and service was simply exquisite. After getting the savoury French toast the first day and was extremely satisfied with the flavour and presentation, I needed to try the sweet variant and was equally blown away. Lovely fresh food that I know the chefs took care with, and at very reasonable prices.

One of the nice cheese scone I ever had. Coffee was also good

I thank the busy staff for remaking my hot chocolate, as the first one was cold. They were so nice about doing again even though they were busy. Coffees ordered were lovely according to my companions Food looked great , sadly only wanted drinks Would come again OS visitors

There was a small wait on food but the staff let me know before ordering which was appreciated. The coffee was just ok, the milk was very frothy/foamy not smooth and creamy The big breakfast was delicious and a generous portion and everything was cooked perfectly. Would dine here again

I think I went to this place 3 or 4 times during my few-day stay in Queenstown. Laid back atmosphere with great choice of food for breakfast/brunch. Some healthy and yet super delicious options were just making my days (e. g. their house dressing for salads was amazing).

Very tasty eggs benedict, well served scrambled eggs on toast, huge “big” breakfast, great coffee!!

Busy place but we had friendly, prompt service. My partner and I both ordered the Big Breakfast. I also had a flat white with coconut milk and my partner had an iced Americano with cream. Tasty food, nice coffees! Can't go wrong here.

Great vibe in the morning. Had a spot up the back for myself and my toddler. Reasonable priced food (TASTY), kids menu and area to sit up back. Great place to stop if you’ve got a family, with friend or on your own. Maybe one of the last spots in queenstown that doesn’t feel cramped.

Good place to have breakfast. Staff was friendly and food was good although the Smashed Avocado toast was just sliced avocado and a bit bland.

Really good coffee! Also had a great sausage roll and fresh smoothie. Best breakfast we had in Wanaka.

Great little place hidden at the back of the city centre. Their fresh juice is refreshing and drink selection is pretty wide ranging too. Serving very quickly after order. Large portion. We had sausage roll and banana walnut cake, this place was good for a quick bite.

About to head out of town and back to Canterbury, we opted for having breakfast before doing so.

The Exchange menu was the most appealing of a number we looked at and we weren’t disappointed.

I had bacon and eggs on toast, my wife getting the big breakfast and my son having pancakes.

The scrambled eggs were fluffy and buttery. The bacon crisp and delicious. What’s more the coffee was as good as what we’d normally get back in Wellington. Essentially a short black with a small jug of water - perfect if you only like a smidge of water.

If you want a fantastic and filling breakfast, that is cooked with care and presented beautifully, you can’t go too far wrong with The Exchange.

This is a great cafe with lots of seating both inside and outside. You need to order and pay at the counter first. I ordered the poached eggs with bacon on sourdough and a coffee. A simple dish, but it was excellent. Perfectly poached eggs, bacon was super crispy, and the sourdough was soft and buttery. I would definitely come back.

Really heavy door as you enter. They have heaps of vegan stuff on display which look hot. I enjoyed my take away coffee and it’s cool they give you a discount for having a keep cup. Good shit

Have been here a couple of times before for coffee but have never got around to reviewing the place. The coffee is usually OK here however this time they were not up to their usual standard. They were double shots which is the usual scenario in NZ, just lacked that usual flavor one expects in this fair land & the service was rather impersonal

Save your money and time. Trust me on this !!

If i could rate this place -10 i would. Worst cafe i have ever been to in my life. Who i assumed was the manager needs to seriously work on her customer service skills to say the least. Still blown away by how rude i was spoken to after meeting up with my girlfriend and her sister for morning smoko. They had just ordered two coffees and food to share. I just happened to already have a green tea from Starbucks across the road upon planning to meet up, we ordered two coffees and food to share then sat down. About a minute later , without warning, this woman yells at me saying "you can not bring that drink in here! As you can see we ALSO sell coffee"(in a sarcastic tone). This was followed by "you need to take your drink outside immediately!". Even after politely explaining we had just ordered two drinks and food to share, it didn't seem to make any difference. So with no other option we took our refund and went for lunch else where. All over a Starbucks branded cup, which was practically empty for the most part anyway! Would've happily thrown it in the rubbish outside if given the opportunity but the woman just kicked off from the start. Was in complete disbelief at the situation so basically left without arguing about it. Most bizarre experience to date i think. I now know that this lady is the owner after speaking to another who has had the pleasure of experiencing her extremely rude demeanour and very poor customer service also. The lady is a loose canon. Just permanently lost your business from 3 local customers, will make sure its not only us too by the way! Well done you crazy lady. WARNING. Stay clear !!

my partner and I went here for breakie one Monday morning. upon arriving we were not greeted despite the staff not being busy. we sat down. went up to the counter and ordered. we order two eggs bene a coffee and a shake. drinks came promptly without a smile. food came shortly after. food was very filling. rosti that came with the meal was different, shredded like potato (very white) and a big lot of spinach. the premises itself was very clean, tidy and warm. this place would be a lot nicer if the customer service was stepped up a bit.

Had the Big Breakfast with coffee and it was really tasty. The serving was large and quite filling. This little place was quite full but the staff are quite friendly, would definitely go again for a nice breakfast :)

Great coffee, warm and welcoming service, nice food. Pancakes delicious. Exchange Cafe is a nice haven in the bustle of Queenstown. Great value for money.

We decided to give a try to this place on Saturday morning for a breakfast. We had a French toast, scrambled eggs, mushrooms on toast, a long black and a latte. The toast was alright and eggs were quite good, however mushrooms were really salty and the long black was quite bitter. Moreover nobody came to us to check our food, to bring us cutleries, napkins and water. Despite the fact people on this place are quite nice and friendly, we feel it lacks some professional touch and proud of work.

A lovely atmosphere, great range on the menu. Had the corn fritters, a bit dry but still yummy. Partner had the fish and chips, big portion! A little bit pricey, however it's a great place to go during the weekends.

A beautiful Cafe, set aside a small creek and over bridge, nestled in beside the ANZ Bank and Post Office.
A fantastic menu, with a fair focus on good quality, hearty breakfasts and fresh cabinet foods.
Delicious salads, sandwiches, wraps, croissants and toasties available for the time conscious and a pretty colourful breakfast and lunch menu available for those with more time.
The cafe boast both warm inside and Al fresco outside dining and there is a back room for small meetings, private dining, conferences etc they have really made use of their space and seating areas.

Best Tip: Get in early for breaky as the crowds come in around 10am and they come in droves for the great coffee and food here.

Best Bite: The Classic Kiwi Lamb Mince on Ciabatta Toast, Wilted Spinach and two Soft Poached Eggs with Chilli Oil and Microgreens

Had a great breakfast here. Eggs benne was yummo, husband had the lamb mince and loved it. Coffee was great as was the service. Will definitely return

great eggs Benedict and milkshakes. busy cafe but the staff were lovely, even though they were busy. Excellent coffee too.
Lots of windows so you can watch the snow like we did this weekend.

Nice cafe, good food menu but took forever to serve us, forgot drinks and literally every meal was cold? Had potential but was such a waste of money
Tom
Food is pricey but you would expect that in a main location in Queenstown in the middle of winter. Meal was terrible, service was basically non existent & coffee is bitter. Do not order the corn fritters if you enjoy soft fluffy fritters with a crispy outer. This cafe plated up burnt corn balls that you could barely cut through. Would not recommend it. If I could score less then 1 I would.

We came for breakfast. It is a nice cafe with good environment. The cafe is a bit busy but the food and drinks were served very soon.
A little bit pricy. Food and drinks are all good in taste.

Eggs Benny to die for! Staff are great, coffee is really good, and the food is fantastic! The service is quick and efficient, the place is open and airy with heaps of glass letting the sun shine in and vibe is business meets pleasure. Menus favorites have to be the eggs benny, fish and chips, and the broccoli salad.

Came here for lunch ! Lovely service ! So warm on a winters day :) delicious food !
Can't wait to come back again !!! So scrumptious !!! Thank you to the staff
Vanessa
Relaxed atmosphere and good food. 30 minute wifi is handy as it can be hard to find Internet in Queenstown. Staff are friendly and the food is well priced.

We headed into The Exchange wooed in with the specials signs outside but upon seating ourselves discovered that the place was a bit pricey, especially for breakfast - We spent $80 for 4 items of food and coffee with one being on the house as they had the orders mixed up.

The vibe of the cafe is very corporate and formal and I enjoyed being seated at the window with the light pouring in. We tried the Shakshuka (which my mom was disappointed to discover was a European version of the Parsi Tomato per Eedu), the Bacon and Egg Bap, a Sausage pie and a Chorizo sandwich. Of all of these, I enjoyed the Chorizo sandwich the best with the Shakshuka being the most overpriced and underwhelming.

The coffee's are decent but nothing to boast about. Service is very attentive and friendly which certainly worked in their favour. Overall, a nice place to treat yourself to breakfast but definitely not for a traveller's budget.
