Review Pog Mahones Irish Pub - Queenstown

Definitely recommend a stop here. Staff was super nice and accommodating and the food was really good. Fish and chips was very good as was the chicken parmesan. Atmosphere was very much the Irish bar which was great. We sat inside but they do have tables that face the water.

Had seafood chowder as an appetizer. It's very chunky and amazing. The beef and Guinness pie was out of this world. I highly recommend it. The local beers or roughly $10 NZD a pint which is about the cheapest you will find at a restaurant in Queenstown.

The Beef and Guinness pie was delicious! Beer is very reasonably priced - especially compared to everywhere else in the area and the atmosphere was very friendly and upbeat.

Gluten free bangers and mash with a pot of tea on a rainy day - thank you! My husband enjoyed the beef and guiness pie (not GF) which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Simply the best beef and guinness pie I’ve ever tasted. The puff pastry has a nice crust and it doesn’t feel hard like the other pies in NZ that is usually placed on the counter and reheated. Highly recommended to pair with a pint of Guiness.

Outstanding food friendly service. This place seems to always be full. We lucked into a table because the party was leaving...

Came back for the awesome seafood chowder before we depart. Friendly and attentive staff. Nice dual cafe and pub atmosphere.

Absolutely lovely pub. Have been her for many years now. The food is authentic, delicious and extremely consistent. Customer service is lovely and warm. Atmosphere really takes you back. I would certainly book on the weekend as it does get very busy. Two dishes are a “must have”. Beef & Guinness Pie and the Potato and Leak Soup. Of course the Guinness is a must do each and every time. I honestly can’t recommend this place high enough. Just perfection! Below scores are out of 10 Customer Service 10 Food Quality 10 Atmosphere 10 Presentation 9 Location 10 Parking: Lots of parking available. Overall 10 Keep up the amazing work team.

We were in desperate need of a good spot to have lunch - so glad we decided to come back here! I had THE BEST Irish Stew, and ordered halloumi fries (also good) to share as I didn’t expect the portion to be this generous. My boyfriend ordered the Beef & Guinness Pie and loved it as well. Lovely waiters working here and fair prices. Would recommend!

Stone grill here was delicious. So good, so juicy. The sides tasted not too bad, and they were quite generous with the sides as well. Onion ring was great. The place was quite noisy, but it’s what you normally expected from a pub.

When we got here is was crazy busy! The waiter barely had time for us, but he was very professional and did really well on his own. The food and drinks menu was quite varied. Half of us ordered $25 special hot stone meals which was fun - although, took about an hour to come out and the sides were still very undercooked.. So after the long wait I can't say we were super impressed! I'd give it another go though.

Irish pubs seems to be all the rave, because let's face it, the Irish know their grog and certainly hold it well. Located on the busy CBD strip and fighting with a multitude of other local outlets, their call to me was the stone grill special at $25 (usually $34+).

First impressions were great because the noise level was very subdued and the staff were laid back and pleasant. Immediately off the bat we were offered seats and menus and talked through the daily specials. Naturally I went directly for the stone grill tasting plate and chose sides of steamed veg and Mediterranean salad.

The grill arrived and it seems the novelty of it will never wear off. I would not recommend it for kids as it is extremely hot. However, the big kid in me loved it! Seafoods were fresh and generous in size. Meats were tender, quality cuts and because you cook it yourself, there is no blame game for overdone steak.

Steamed veg was uninspiring and forgettable but the Mediterranean salad was refreshing and balanced out the heavy proteins. All washed down with a chilled ginger beer and I was one happy camper!

My friend and I went here for dinner tonight and it was better than we expected. We each had a stone grill meal, I chose the NZ Lamp Rump with steamed vegetables, roast potatoes and mint sauce. My friend had the Tasting Platter with steamed vegetables, green salad and mushroom sauce. The meats for both of us were delicious very tender and it was fun cooking it ourselves however that's really all that was good as the sides weren't impressive at all. Overall it was normal pub food and if it weren't for the 50 other restaurants in Queenstown we would probably come again.

definitely pub grub. Sausages and mash was not quite what you expected. Lambs shanks are a definitely worth the money though.
Warm and cosy atmosphere with live Irish duo playing so still worth a visit if you are after a good time. :)

After a long and tiring trip to Milford Sound a Beef & Guinness Pie with some steamed veggies and a couple of pints of Speight's was just the job. Good old-fashioned pub with decent food and cheerful service. Has a beautiful outlook over Lake Wakatipu in the daytime. I thought the Beef & Guinness Pie could have had a bit more beef and a bit less potato inside but it was good all the same. We both enjoyed the Guinness soda bread.

The best Guinness pie !!!

Awesome and delicious start to our holiday. Ok, without any knowledge of the restaurant scene in Queenstown, I can say that a trio of Queenslanders thrust into the winter of NZ’s south island, experienced a great first night at this pub.

Feeling a little shell shocked by the cold, we pushed open the door and into the warmth of Pogs Mahones. Jagging a table close to the fireplace and a couple of red wines later (plus a raspberry lemonade by my nine year old), we couldn’t help but notice the smattering of diners disengaged from the social pub-like goings on, slumped over wooden platters of, what can only be described as ‘carnivorous platters of goodness’. We so had to see what all this was about.

It was Wednesday night’s ‘all you can eat Ribs’ night and with two servings ordered we were more than set for the night. Arriving about 10 minutes after ordered, huge wooden boards abundant with pork ribs in a smokey bbq sauce, sided with chips, coleslaw and rocket salad. And that is when a silence fell over the table followed closely by an eating frenzy. They were so delicious! Not fancy, but just good, hearty, tasty, friendly...and with the Pogues playing in the background. Atmospheric.

Thank you. It really was a great initiation to Queenstown and just an awesome start to our holiday.

Thanks for reading....L xx

Ok, this is a pub so did not expect much but it is surprisingly good..

Service is fantastic, food is also very good. Inside looks and smells like a pub but outside on a lovely Queenstown day looking over the lake.. Quite breathtaking.

The friendly service and helpful staff make this place so keep up the good work..

Was down in Queenstown skiing when I came across this great little Irish pub. Popped in for the Stonegrill deal on the Monday night and it was fantastic. Haven't had one before but it was recommended to me by one of the friendly bar staff who cinvinced me it was the way to go. She wasn't wrong either the meat was delicious, the side ceasar tasty and the creamy whiskey was good. Only down side was the lightining was a bit dark and the music was a bit loud but overal top marks.

Nobody came to take our order and nobody appeared to be interested in serving us. Then we see on menu we order food at bar. American waitress chewing gum...ewww!
Meal was okay but one in our party had the chicken strips...cooked to a crisp and revolting! Would not bother with this place again. AND it was dirty!
