Review Lakeside Palace Chinese Restaurant - Queenstown

Rebecca Lim
Food was delicious and service was good. Pricing definitely on the pricier side. Really enjoyed the Sichuan boiled fish dish and sweet and sour pork. The kids really liked the sweet and sour pork as well as the tofu with prawns.

My husband and I always have had meals here for many years our favourite place for great Chinese food, my husband died 8mnths ago all who knew my husband here had been supportive but I still like to bring friends in or by myself from kitchen to front of house everyone here is friendly can have a laugh and most welcoming.

Good services and nice authentic Chinese food, very decent size for medium dishes. We ordered streamed fish, stirred fried venison, chicken & corn soap and veggies, all tasted great! Will definitely return.

This is the best Chinese restaurant in town I would say. The price is reasonable with a big portion of food even just medium size. The fried beef noodle is amazing, very local Cantonese flavour, the boss is very welcome and friendly. The numb spicy fish slice is AMAZING! I would highly recommend people go there especially those who are after a local Cantonese restaurant with yummy spicy food as second choice.

We shared a few meals at this restaurant. They were flavourful. We enjoyed our entree soups also. The service was quick & welcoming. It's a bit expensive & there is no dedicated parking. If you are able to walk to Queenstown itself it's worth a visit.

Delicious and scrumptious! We were a bit wary because of the ratings but no regrets! Both dishes we had, plum sauce pork ribs and beef stir fry with ginger and spring onion, were on point and very good.

Very delicious food and very friendly service. All their dishes are well cooked and well-seasoned. My favourite dish is spicy deep-fried pork ribs, it's so savoury and tasty. My kids favourite is sweet & sour pork. Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in town 👍

Hands down the best Chinese food in town. Service is great and fast. Must try items: - crispy pork ribs (spicy) - sweet & sour pork - crispy garlic prawn - black pepper beef - chicken fried noodle - tofu & mushroom

Highly recommend! We have visited this restaurant twice already during our stay here in Queenstown. Service is very good and friendly staff. Very accomodating for families and food tastes fresh and great!

The google rating for this place doesn’t represent how good the food is. We came expecting average food but to our surprise, the dishes we ordered were full of flavor, smokey, balanced and not oily or salty. This is queenstown hidden gem and we definitely will come back to eat again.

Food was great. We love it.

We’ve been a few times with family over the years and always happy with service. The room is delicious and we couldn’t recommend this place anymore for a nice winters dine-in .

Absolutely stellar food. extremely authentic. always a good sign when you walk into a Chinese restaurant and 1) all the guests are speaking Mandarin 2) the first page of the menu is in Chinese only. Gigantic fresh lobsters in a tank greet you when you walk in, and the lobster dishes are appropriately spectacular. Fresh abalone in tanks as well if you can read the chef's specials. The venison was incredibly tender and delicious. The plum wine was a fun little treat as well.

We were looking for a good quality, delicious Chinese cuisine and we found it at Lakeside Palace! Fast, friendly efficient service and just what we wanted in a meal.

One of the better Chinese food I have eaten around the world and definitely the best that I have eaten in NZ (granted that I haven't been to many places here). The sweet and sour pork was awesome, as was the mushroom stir-fried with lettuces. Ingredients were fresh and food tasted delicious. We returned for another meal and wasn't disappointed. I highly recommend it!

Very good Chinese food! We walked in with no booking on a Saturday night and got a table straight away. Food was delicious, very authentic, and the service was great. We ordered chicken and corn soup, fried chicken wings, spring rolls, Singapore noodles, sweet and sour pork, stir fried chicken and vegetables. Our family, including two young kids, totally enjoyed everything. The portions were generous and the price was very reasonable. Hands down the best Chinese food in Queenstown. Will definitely come back again 👍

Worst Asian restaurant ever. Hygiene wasn’t impressive they have few spots not cleaned on the dishes and awful taste. Portion was way too small. Do not recommend this restaurant

One of the authentic Chinese cuisine we ever tasted before. I Loved every flavours which it had. Was happy that the spice level was maintained according to our expectations as myself and my guy are both the chilly lovers 😊 Hoping to come back soon !!

Delicious food and peaceful ambience. Really good place for a healthy meal lunch or dinner. Ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup and it went perfect with the chilly queenstown weather. Definitely recommend it. 👍

Dinner with the boys and my wife before heading home to Auckland. The staff were amazing, friendly and the service was fast considering the place was packed.

A bit of a mismatch between the size of the servings and the price but you will not complain about the taste.

Quite central it’s location and we walked in without a reservation.

Yes its pricey but that is expected as they are located right smack by the lake.

Food is authentic chinese food and service is great.

What to order:
-Yangchow fried rice
-sweet & sour pork
-pepper beef
-wonton soup
-fried squid

Tip: serving is small so better order the large size.
This is not a place for bang for buck.. but rather somewhere to eat a decent authentic Chinese food in queenstown central.

Over-priced meals here. Ordered sizzling king prawns in ginger sauce - there were only six prawns and the rest were a generous amount of stir'fry onions. Same with yang chow rice. Tasty but small in serving for a price of $20! Thumbs down for this restaurant.

Went here with friends as a send off lunch for me, as I was flying back to Auckland. There are many resto around town but I chose the place because my taste buds always crave for asian foods wherever I go, certified Asian here! The place was a typical chinese resto, but they have a small spot where you could have a view of the lake, of course we chose to seat there. The price of the food are a bit over the top, but the amount of serving was justified. We had Singaporean dried noodles, which is a bit bland that we had to ask for soy sauce to add flavor to it. We also had the pork sweet and sour, which we liked as the meat was well cooked. And the mixed vegetables which we liked the best. Staff were very polite and nice. Great location, ambiance is average.

I drop by almost every time for dinner while passing Queenstown - definitely a recommended if you’re looking for asian food there.
They have great authentic Chinese/Hong Kong food cooked well. Service was good: the food came pretty quickly and the staff were great.

Very average food .. but good service and food brought out pretty fast.
Would I go back again ?
Unlikely.
Not much else to say.
Don’t know what to add to make 140 characters.

Came here with my parents and we all really enjoyed the food. Authentic Chinese food and amazing service. Was a bit quite when we arrived but don't let this deter you. Maybe the best Chinese food in Queenstown. I highly recommend it.

Slightly overpriced but the quality of the food overcomes the price any ways. The fried rice was cooked nice and the del fried squid was the best. The flavour was nice and spicy and the sweet and sour pork was good aswell.

Staff members are good however the price is pretty high. We are from Auckland and the prices here is about 1.5 times that of Auckland's. The environment is ok and the food is nothing to write home about. I would say the same standards you get from a takeaway. Basically over priced even for a premium added for Queens town.
Daniel
I went there the previous year and sadly it has not improved. The staff were friendly but the food was below average and portion not worth the price. Decent environment but the overall the food was just a let down..

A good chinese food served here!! They serve all the varieties in medium and large size, depending on your hunger. I think medium qty of rice is sufficient for 2.

We had fried rice, and chilly chicken both turned out to be very nice.
Diana Hutchinson
Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere but food was below par. Ordered banquet for 2. Wonton soup, spring rolls and fried wontons were terrible. Sweet and sour chicken, black bean beef and chicken with veges was ok, fried rice was pretty ordinary. While we were eating a wait staff person was walking around clearing the tables by dumping uneaten food into a green bucket!!

GreAt food , sizzling plates juicy spare ribs , soups and other delicacies , the stairs need cleaning but once upstairs it is warm and comfortable , the waitresses were attentive food arrived despite the restaurant being full , wine is overpriced

Very disappointing overall
- Poor service. We signalled to waitress several times and she ignored us. Forty minutes after ordering, we had not received one dish. I went up and asked how much longer and she said soon. I further probed whether they had even started cooking our order and as I thought NO. I said I expect my order in 10 minutes. I did make a smart remark and asked if they only had half a wok in the kitchen
- Food quality below average. We ordered medium size dishes, Mapo tofu, stir fry veges, salt and pepper spare ribs, chilli and ginger beef, hot and sour soup, 2 diet cokes. Where do I start, they used hot pot sauce for the tofu (Chinese people will know this is poor), ribs tasted good but were tough, soup had little flavour and vege and beef dishes were so so
- Poor value. We paid $98 for our meal. Portion size was on small side. My wife and I are from Auckland (she is Chinese) and we would pay around $40 up here with larger portion sizes. I understand there are premiums for eating in Queenstown, but this much?
- Venue decor is dated

Final opinion, good and find a Chinese takeaway shop, pay a quarter of the price and have better quality food.

Delicious authentic Chinese food, generous portions and excellent service. They have a special menu in Chinese and Japanese for more dishes with excellent seafood.

Staff were helpful and attentive, though one of the waitresses seemed to struggle to understand english properly.

Travelled 200 km to this restaurant for my birthday. Entrance stairs were grubby, needing a vacuum. Toilet areas cluttered and unclean in appearance. Food average. I am not a particularly fussy person, but I dont think the standard is high enough for a resort town.

We have been to Lakeside Palace several times during our travels to Queenstown. The food and service have always been great.

The staff are always really friendly, and the food arrives promptly whether they are really busy (seemingly most of the time) or if things are quiet.

The Mongolian Beef is their secret weapon!

Great Chinese food . With lovely service and food to match . great sweet and sour pork- Hong kong style- and fried rice.

I've been here to eat a few time and this place is highly recommended! the service was lovely and the food (my favourite, sweet and sour pork!) was delicious.

At first sight it might not be the flashiest restaurant out there but before you judge it on its appearance, you should sit down and grab a bite to eat first.

ps:dont be discouraged from eating there if it is a bit too crowded or too quiet, the staff are wonderful and will make you feel welcome ;)

Food is Delicious and the staff is extremely friendly.
It can get a little uncomfortable when it is very busy but that is good for them, I guess.

Although not the flashiest looking restaurant, the food here is always good and the service is friendly. My favourite Chinese resaurant in Queenstown.

People say you can tell a good Asian restaurant by the number of Asians actually dining there, and considering we were the only non-Asians we took this as a good sign.

Lakeside is typical of Chinese restaurant decor, Asian cheese isn't on the menu but you certainly see a lot of it decorating the walls - everything from a large framed collection of money from around the world, to an even larger framed collection of money on another wall.

Service was good, the woman behind the counter was incredibly friendly and this always helps. At least she understands the importance of customer service, as opposed to some other supposedly cool and trendy cafes [cough, cough VUDU, cough].

I had the wonton noodle soup for lunch and unfortunately found the noodles to look a bit dry. My guess is that they had been well and truly cooked beforehand and as a result of time, dried out. The soup itself tasted great - and I always enjoy the challenge of chopsticks. It wasn't overly abundant with vegetables either, a few pieces of broccoli and slices of carrot was about it.

Whilst service was good, and the experience wasn't torturous, the food on this occasion just wasn't up to scratch in the scheme of things.

Food quality similar to what you'd get at a food court. Poor value for money considering the quality.

Poor ambience.

Great location.
