Review Frankton Ale House - Queenstown

Hannah Cui
I had a curry chicken baked rice- not the best one I’ve ever had but at $12, it’s warm and hearty and does everything a baked rice should. The other items look excellent, bring your mates along for a solid Chinese feed. Bit of a weird vibe in the actual pub itself.

Very nice place, friendly staff. Look bit short staff just have see two people works but very helpful. 12 dollars Hawaii cheese definitely valuable and recommend to try. Would like always come back to visit again.

Pretty authentic Chinese restaurant. A bit catered to the tourist groups but we had no problems with service. There’s just 1 size in the food servings and it’s large. NZ has a strange custom where u have to get your own water. Not sure why there’s some trolling but for me, I’m glad we stopped here and not waste time in downtown Queenstown for our other favorites. Give it a try.

Food is far better than year ago, same as the service. Had a dinner on the New Year Eve, was pretty good.

We enjoyed our meal here tonight. The dish portion is huge. We are happy to finally had some authentic Chinese food after several days touring in South Island. The young girl who is working there is super friendly. :)

"Never judge a book by its cover." - This definitely applies. We saw this place when we left Queenstown Airport. Thought it might be a little place with mediocre food and subpar quality. We tried it tonight, TOTALLY, not what we expected. Yes its called Frankton Ale House, but sells Chinese food. And it was amazing, flavors was mouth watering, portions were large, price is great. Food was not greasy. Would go back again. ❤

Great quality food, large sized portions with friendly staff. Glad they are now open to the public, look forward to trying a hot pot with a group next time

This is the worst Chinese restaurant I have dined in New Zealand if not the whole world. They don't bother giving you the minimum standard of service if you're not part of the tour services diverting unsuspecting victims to this place. Very expensive for what you get. Please save yourselves and drive someplace else for Chinese.

I am a fan of Chinese food but we're definitely not coming back to this place. Meals are absolutely less than average and overpriced. We went there for dinner and the food was lacking in taste. The service was very slow even though there was only four customers in the restaurant. Make sure u double check ur receipt before u pay as the casheir charged us incorrectly for a bottle of wine instead of a jug of local beer which was cheaper (im not sure if this was just a simple mistake or their way of ripping customers off but its worth mentioning) The only good about this place is the lovely white girl waitress who served us. She was very polite and professional. But overall I am not hating, this is just an honest review... very disappointing.

Overpriced and definitely not worth visiting. You’re better off getting Food from the local takeaways. Servings were incredibly small for the price! We even paid for the house tea!

Absolutely AWFUL experience. ABUSIVE management! Food was RAW, when my wife and I asked for it to be reheated it came out raw again, and then when the manager was told, he said that was just how they came

Obviously sick of tourists and not suited to the service industry.

Recommend anyone taking women and children out to steer well clear of this place!
Had the mussels two months back and they were overcooked but the sauce was nice, advised staff who were appreciated feedback and were going to pass on to chef. Decided to give them a second chance today and ordered same dish but its gone from bad to worse. The mussel shells were open approx 50mm (should of been 10mm) which means they shrunk to 1/4 the size rather than 3/4 and were dry, rubbery and chewy, the sauce had no taste however the bread was ok. The service was good though. It's not that hard to cook mussels, in fact anyone can, except the chef at the 'Frankton Ale House' so I will not be going back there.

I have just been to the Frankton Ale House for lunch and I was very disappointed. It took 40 minutes for us to get our meals and the service was very average. I then ordered the chicken parsels on there own and they charged me for a whole meal. Waitress should have informed me that they don't do half meals or parcels on there own. Disappointed local!!

Meals okay but decor too dark and desolate!
