Review Mandarin Seafood Restaurant - Queenstown

Darren
Pretty good Chinese food. IMO, comparable to better restaurants in Asia, authentic tasting Cantonese style food. I had sweet and sour pork, white bait omelette, hot plate venison, spinach in broth and they were all good except the spinach. I think they can't get the right type for vegetables here, it was tough. I also had 水煮鱼,and it was good too, not spicy enough for me but my family liked it. Pleasantly surprised to find this place.

Authentic Cantonese food, lovely service, don't need to wait long, although often has tours group coming in, but the space is big, don't interfere much if you just want to taste good food

The spot was always full we need to wait 1h to have a table, it was full of Chinese people look like you are in china haha nice...don't know what is the other fresh seafood there because I only seen crayfish 🦞and they are very huge(Milford crayfish motioned) Pekin duck was good but very poor in meat and first time I eat with bones in😅...service was very long maybe because they was so many Chinese family on this Christmas Day. But overall it was a very good

The previous reviews have confused me as I really enjoyed the mandarin. The restaurant’s location is beautiful, looking over the serene Wakatipu lake. We walked in and had a very nice meal, the food was cooked well and the owner was such a kind lady! The highlights for me was the scampi, the salt and pepper prawns, the garlic pork ribs and the steamed fish. It sadden me to hear that the business has gotten quite the hit by covid as it deserves all the praise.

We had take out Dinner from Mandrain Seafood Restaurant. Order was made online without any issue. Food sizes are generous and tasted yummy too. We had fired rice with chicken and salty fish, seasonal veggies, crispy chicken, Hong Shao Tofu and chicken and cashew. Staff was very helpful and we are very happy with the quality of food. Recommend.

It was a great experience. As a Chinese, it was definitely the most authentic Chinese food I've ever had.Especially the sweet sour chicken fillet and Peking Style Roast Duck.....soooooo yummy..

Had the set menu here for 3. Food was traditional Australian Chinese, great quality produce used. Plenty of food for 3 and only 35 each which included dessert. Service ladies were lovely and very attentive. Would definitely return!

Wow, what a surprise! Great view from our window table looking over Lake Wakatipu. Food was amazing. Roast duck, sizzling Lamb in pepper sauce and the combination fried rice was fantastic. Food was tasty and plentiful, and the beer was cold! Well done Guys!

It was okay. The best dish was the lobster noodles followed by the steam fish and mince tofu. Veges were all good too. Fried beef noodles and seafood fried rice was average..bbq pork egg omelette was really salty and bbq pork was very dry. Service was average as it was busy.

My friend and I ate at the Mandarin Restaurant on the afternoon of December 27. The meals we had were delicious. I would gladly recommend anyone to eat here. I’m astounded that the restaurant was not absolutely crowded. Our heartfelt thanks.

The interior of the restaurant was nice but the food not so great. Ordered a wonton noodle soup - lettuce was used as the vegetable, the broth had no flavour and the serving was small considering how expensive the dish was.

Went there while waiting for a table at another restaurant as was super hungry & ordered for the spicy Cantonese soup that was really nice. Saw live seafood and am assuming could be a good choice & would want to come again and try and reassess the place.

The owner has hidden away the food hygiene grade certificate , the food is not fresh and expensive. We had bad experiences eating here. No wonder it is quite at dinner time

Authentic Chinese food from he perspective of a Chinese. Service is bit rough but that's what you should expect from being authentic. Food quality is good.

We had a terrible experience here that left us with a bad taste in our mouth both figuratively and literally. Came in on a cold day looking for a hot, delicious, authentic Chinese meal. The waitress rushed us into ordering and the food was inedible to the point of dangerous; the szichuan chicken was nearly all bones which fractured into shards in our mouths. We were able to, luckily, extract them before choking. The stir fried beef ho fun was greasy and flavourless and the "beef" was pure fat chunks.
We could not eat our meals and decided to leave whereupon the manager demanded we pay, scolded us for not knowing Chinese food, and insisted everyone else" loves their restaurant. (Upon searching afterward we noticed that, in fact, "everyone else" has left negative reviews as well). The manager insulted us, refused to compromise or offer another dish, and offered the illogical price of $30.00 (rather than the intended $38.00.) Disgusted, we paid and left. This was not only the worst Chinese food ever (seriously no hyperbole) but also the worst service. I cannot emphasise enough that one should not eat here!
