Review Benson Road Deli - Remuera

James Ashwin
That was easily one of the best eggs Benedict’s I’ve had! Such a good spot outside when the sun is shining. My partner loved her flat white and the service from Sonia and her team was top shelf. Highly recommend to all. James Ashwin Kakapo Business Sales

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. You can't ask for more. The fresh juices are amazing and the food delicious. There are healthy options and guilty pleasures and a few tables at the front for those visiting with their dog. One of my favourite spots to eat in Auckland.

I called in with my daughter after school today and had one of the best cakes I've ever had. It was a melting moment, made today the lovely lady said and it was SO divine. Perfectly baked. They were closing and the cabinet was emptied but they happily served us. So lucky to have this on our doorstep.

Food is nice, good price for portion. Service on the food was a fair wait however the staff where very apologetic. Over all a good place to eat or have a coffee.

Very yummy and delicious selection of whole day breakfast and brunch snacks. Well made coffee. Easy to stop by and treat yourself nice afternoon tea.

Excellent coffee, great menu and choice of cabinet food, and the staff were plentiful and fabulous but lost a star for the want of checking on tables. Otherwise excellent.
Tracey Dawson
Fantastic coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice

Edit: Thanks for your response ☺️ I totally missed the option of eggs on toast on the menu, and wasn't made aware of it at the till. I'll come back again sometime to give your cafe another go 🙂 - Nice enough cafe, but I don't know, I walked out somewhat disappointed I paid $16.50 for overly crunchy sourdough, eggs and no bacon. Maybe if I was a bacon eater the serving I'd seen in the photos might have felt a bit better value, but they don't have an "eggs on toast" option. I'd rather pay $2 extra elsewhere and get a proper meal that's been put together for me with some delicious chutneys and microgreens or something. Maybe I'm just a picky a**hole.

Need to move the noisy Smoothie-maker out of dining area. Impossible amount of noise. Never sit in lower dining area For lunch again until this is done.

I had lunch with my mum at BRD and found the experience to be average. The service was a bit below my standards, they didn’t seat us down so we just took a table ourselves and the menu was already on the table just sitting there. I got the eggs benedict with salmon without hollandaise sauce and my mum got the BLAT. We got our water served a bit after we’ve ordered our food, which is quite uncommon as water is usually served once you’re seated.

The food was pretty average. However, my eggs were perfectly poached and the hash brown was a nice surprise. Cold smoked salmon was somewhat flakier than what I was used to. Food came out at a quick pace as it wasn’t very busy so that was great!

The meal was around $45 for the two mains and a coffee. Would I come back? Probably not as I don’t think it’s particularly worth trying other stuff.

First time coming. Found it on gmap as it’s the closest food, only 10min walk away. Ordered a pie, fantastic - a flat white, fantastic - the staff saw me finished my food and asked if I want anything else, so I tried a smoothie, again fantastic. Don’t get why the reviews are so bad, or maybe I was just starving at the time or because I have low standards, but really there absolutely nothing to complain about.

Lovely cafe with a beautiful selection of sweets and savoury cabinet food!! The 2.8 rating is definitely an injustice! Coffee 4/5 service, very friendly staff and food lovely!

The staff at the cashier was very rude and in a bad mood. When ordering we didn't realise that an item named 'open food' was charged $8. It turned out to be the tomato thing, that had a strange sour taste.

2 cappuccino tasted like water, hot chocolate tasted like water and banana smoothie tasted like... water! The smoothie had huge chunks of banana that were stuck in the straw and was bitter. The caramel slice was burnt and very, very crumbly.

We came here before, bad experience. Decided to come again hoping for better standards. Every year the service and food is getting worse.
Ed
I've eaten here a number of times and the food/service has been consistently good. Tasty food with very generous portions - big breakfast is one of the largest around.
Maddy
Amazing service with even better food! Great for family's of all sizes or even just a bunch for two. I take the kids after soccer practise they love the lasagna! Love the coffee too!
Izabella Pinker
Good local but nothing to rave about- usually bit of a wait and the staff are kind but not very attentive. It’s better if you eat in as every time I’ve had a takeaway and asked for a trim mocha I’ve always been handed a cappuccino instead and haven’t had the time for them to fix the problem. The brioche and bagels are very good and the billy apple artwork is cool. If you’re after a standard cafe experience then you won’t be disappointed just don’t expect any creativity from their menu or cabinet.

Seriously... I've had enough!!!! This is the 4th time in a row that I have had a BAD MEAL and a BAD EXPERIENCE at the Benson Road Deli.... When this cafe first opened it was exceptional.... but over the years it's almost as if they don't care anymore... They are in a unique location and will always be full of customers... but they need to realise that the Remuera-ites are all talking saying the BRD has gone down hill.... Shame!!!!! When the locals start talking... things aren't hot...

In my latest experience I had a staff member for Melbourne in Auckland for a single night.... she asked to go here.... she ordered her meal (which she said was average) and asked for Avocado on the side.... a one half portion of Avocado came out for a cost of $5... the Avocado was sooooo rock hard that she couldn't even cut it with her knife. We mentioned this to the manager and were told that Avocados were hard to get.... but seriously if you can't cut the rock hard piece of fruit, then you should tell a customer that the Avocado was not available... Needless to say we paid for the entire meal and the Avocado remained uneaten in entirety...

As this is the 4th time for us.... I'm just over it.... this is a cafe that could honestly be the BEST!!!!
Aimee.
Really really average place. It’s just really close to my house so I have been a few times. It gets really busy in the weekends especially for brunch. The food is kind of bland and boring. Just average.
Jim Eynsham
Second time here and will be the last. The coffee is ok but the food is not good.
they left items out of our order, the food was cold and we both could not eat what we ordered.
I would rather eat at McDonald's.
Johann Go
A nice cafe with food and coffee, in a nice location. Offering table service would be great, rather than having to order at the counter.

Perfect location for catching up with friends for brunch, or a quiet study session in one of the back areas during the quieter times of the day.

Shocking display. The service here has really gone downhill. Went here with my 80 year old parents and 5 month old baby. Girl took our food order and clearly just forgot to put it into the kitchen. 20 mins later no food... had to ask where it was and discovered she had never put the order in. After 45 mins we were hungry and pissed off and had run out of time. To compound the issue she tried to deny she'd taken our order, and on going to pay for the drinks, nothing comped. I worked in hospitality for 10 years and I this is up there with the worst. Shocker

A few friends of mine and I had our orders for coffees/juices taken very promptly, minutes later our food order was taken too. One of the juices I ordered never arrived until I had to ask our waitress (who then had to make it). Food was all pretty tasty although we had waited for nearly an hour on our meals and the simplest dish ordered was mince on toast, never arrived. Service was disappointing/slow although the cashier didn't charge us for our drinks and seemed to be very apologetic.

Drove pass many times. Decided to give it a try before arrived home. Menu is relatively short (breakfast menu only 1 page and lunch also 1 page and font size isn't small). Sidetrack a little bit, on the lunch menu says 7am to 5:30pm. Wonder who will have "lunch" at 7am in the morning? (Hahaha!!) Ordered Tuna Melt and Mocachino. Tuna Melt is hot (that's good!) But the presentation..... Hmmmm.... Seems the chef just dumped everything onto the plate. Coffee came quite quickly (that's good too). Wonder whether it's because is quiet or it's a norm to be this quick. Will I come back again? Yes I will give it another go but I will try something else next time.

Finally popped into BRD after driving pass million times. It's a friendly cafe at a great location.

We ordered coffee, the Verge breaky and eggs bene. Coffee came pretty much straight away and tasted good!

While waiting for food, the man manager came and told us that the avocadoes were terrible so they can't serve them. We were happy to choose other alternatives. I really appreciate the honesty of the manager, quality always comes first!

The food arrived shortly after. There were nicely presented and were good portions. All ingredients were nice and fresh and balanced well. Although some of the food could do with a bit more flavour.

We decided to order second coffee which arrived very quickly. However my second coffee was quite burnt and l didn't enjoy it as much.

Was going to order something sweet to go with my second coffee, but the dessert cabinet didn't look very attractive at all. Some of the sweet treats were falling apart. That's a bit of a let down.

Overall I enjoyed my experience at BRD and l will have no no problem returning.

I have been meaning to go to this cafe for sometime however I was slightly disappointed. We went early on a Sunday to avoid the crowds so I was desperate for a coffee however my cappuccino was so watery that it tasted like there was no coffee at all! My 2yo orders a juice and unfortunately dropped it all over the ground. Took about 10 mins before my husband could get someone's attention and they really didn't even acknowledge the mess, gave us a dish cloth to clean up. I am no snob and can clean up my own mess but some help would have been nice!Finishing on a positive the vege Breakfast was lovely.

Came here for lunch with my wife. The service was good, even though it was fairly busy. The food however was average. She had a beef salad type thing and said it was 'just okay'. I had the special, which was advertised as a Philly Cheesesteak, but it was obvious that no one there has actually been to Philadelphia (or even googled what these sandwiches look like) because what arrived was what I would call a steak sandwich (with salad tomatoes, etc). Would we go back? Yes, but more because it's convenient than for the food.
Pip
Very disappointing. Ordered a vegetarian big breakfast that took forever to arrive then finally came without the haloumi and an overpoached egg. When this was raised with the wait staff no apology was offered. An egg and the haloumi were then presented on a saucer 10 minutes later. Terrible service and very average overpriced food. Good coffee.
Vanessa
Really disappointing experience. Food was fine but choice & quality of wine by the glass was seriously wanting. Waitress was new and felt sorry for her as she kept having to tell us what we couldn't have. Offers full bar service but no gin for my non wine drinking friend. Fortunate it wasn't a special occasion! Best stick to breakfast.
Dana
Nice food, coffee not too bad. Tall girl behind counter snatches $, very rude and wouldn't hurt if she smiled or looked happy to be there at least

Apart from the fact that coffee has always been a problem here ( cold or burnt or simply a wrong one ) the big breakfast of the BRD used to be good. Although heavily overpriced it used to be well executed and had a reasonable quality.
However, recently it has dramatically changed...the new BRD big breakfast comes with half a kilo of uncooked potato chunks instead of hash browns, overdone eggs and low quality sausages instead of the good old german ones , even the cherry tomatoes were not grilled properly !!!!!! a total disappointment ..AFTER ALL I tell you how bad the service was...staff constantly made mistake with the orders and someone else apologized on their behalf !!!! They gave me a terriblly bitter coffee instead of a soy flat white !!! then I politely told them that it is not a flat white... then I realized that I will never get a good coffee and asked them for a tea instead.... half an hour later he came back with a cup of coffee again ( I initially asked for a take-away cup !!!! ) and explained the previous coffee was not mine and there was a mistake ..well I already knew that and told you that !!! where is my tea... 10 minutes later I FINALLY GOT TO GET MY TEA!!! Yayyyyyyyyyyyy ...Yayyyyyyyyyyyy ... oooops sorry I was not given my tea...he literally throw it on the table with a very strong attitude ...my friend and I honestly got shocked!!!!!
Well if you have a guest from another area of Auckland honestly they ll be shocked with the food quality and service when they get the bill!!!!!!

Came for brunch. Service poor. Fries with meal cold. Had to remind waiters of coffee we had ordered to finish meal. Low number of other customers so no excuse for poor service. Wish it was better.
Gordon King
I really wish this place was better. Its just a short walk around the corner and every couple of months our family gives it another try. Inevitably I hand over a pile of money swearing never to return.

The brunch food is always cold. I don't mind par-cooked eggs and bacon, busy places can't do everything from scratch. But it does take more than a quick dunk in hot water or under the grill to bring them back to temperature. Also hot food needs to be on hot plates.

The older wait staff are normally good. The younger ones are just painful. Passing boiling pots of tea over the heads of our children. Looking put upon if you ask them to run a cloth over a dirty table.

There's just too many kids in the place and not enough grownups. It needs a really good manager to sort it out, preferably one who knows when the chefs are cruising.

Until then, we go to Ayr St, Jazz or the Garden Center.
Tim Mckenzie
I went in for quick takeaway coffee. Asked for a flat white and a hot chocolate. Both cups were barely 3/4 full. The flat white was burnt milk over a burnt shot topped with at least a full inch of shitty froth. Completely incompetent person. Please train someone to use your coffee machine and make sure they understand how to steam milk and what each type of coffee looks and tastes like. Very disappointed.

My friend shouted me a birthday lunch last Friday. We both ordered the Tuna Melt at around $19. We were both very disappointed. The size of the sandwich was very small. It was advertised as having Gruyere cheese but you could not even taste the little there was as it was completely masked by a strange vinegary taste. Quite unpalatable. The meal came with some carrot coleslaw and some fries. All we could eat were the fries. Not at all worth the price charged. The staff were fine. I would rather have emailed Benson Rd Deli direct rather than write a revue but the website does not contain a "Contact Us" option.
Sonia
Had heard great things about this cafe from friends in the area. Being new to Auckland thought I would give it a try. Great food amazing coffee . I now go most weekends , wish I lived closer then I could go during the week . The staff now know my name ! Well done to a great cafe

Benson Road Deli (or BRD) is a few minutes' walk from my house. I like that BRD opens early - 7am everyday which is great for people who are on their way to work and on the weekends, it is the perfect place to go to for a coffee if you have been for a very early walk.
They not only serve delicious extra hot coffee (how I like it) but a range of savoury and sweet delights, freshly made juices, breakfast, lunch and dinner! I usually only order a hot drink when I visit BRD (hot chocolate or sweet vanilla chai with cinnamon), but one Sunday morning my friend insisted that I try their eggs benedict.
Now I am not really into the whole eating breakfast out/having brunch - I am more of a 'three meals a day' kind of person. Anyway, I reluctantly agreed and to be honest, it was totally worth it. I am a huge fan of eggs yet only make them at home. In addition, the eggs benedict came with delicious crispy bacon, which I rarely eat so it was a real treat!
In the end, I was glad that I had passed up the normal hot drink and went for something a little more adventurous.
However, if you are ever in the neighbourhood, I strongly recommend coming in for morning or afternoon tea and trying their chocolate caramel slice. Sitting down with a nice hot drink and devouring a slice of their chocolate caramel is just bliss. I even had it for breakfast one morning because I could not wait another minute!

Firstly, service staff are very friendly. Unfortunately the standard of food at BRD is not so great. Expensive prices for underwhelming products. Weak coffees, served a tea pot with no cup to pour tea into. Long black did not come with hot water and the savoury food was disappointing. Sweet goods were yummy, if not a little on the small size considering their price! Definitely not my first pick for a cafe if looking to eat somewhere in Remuera.
Marie Young
Sorry Benson Road Deli but both the service and coffee was terrible this morning. Firstly I waited 20 minutes for a takeaway coffee (which I requested to be extra hot) then found when I tried it it was luke warm and weak. I also think the coffees weren't made in the order that they were written. I almost turned back to ask for another coffee to be made, but couldn't bare the wait that this would involve. Very disappointed.
Hannah
Terrible cafe and insanely expensive.
$4.50 for a side of cold baked beans from a can and another $4.50 for half a rotten avocado.
Never coming again. Too many good cafés to compete with!
$26.50 for eggs (no bread) and the above. No love and care was put into this meal at all. I would have been to embarrassed to serve it.
Megan Kruse
Oh my gosh!! I never tried the worst salad ever. The eggs were rock hard. Only thing I tasted was the dressing on the lettuce and coffee. I was so starving and looking for a nice brunch with my girlfriends but all I had was very poor quality of food.

I did not want to bring this up but my girlfriend had found long piece of human black hair. This had just overdone everything. As we went upstairs to pay and to our astonishment I was surprised to see chefs in the kitchen working not even in a proper uniform and not even having hair net. These are not proper food safety hygiene or standards.

Friendly staff, great coffee but I think proper standards should be followed. Benson Road Deli was always my first choice for food.

As always the service was good but I'm so disappointed with the food.

Sorry but I don't think I ll go back again in this stage.
Joules
Had lunch here with a colleague last week...service standards were very high as usual and the staff and owner very friendly. Busy as always...and the area around the counter is pretty cramped but staff and clientele are always polite.

Great café - one of my favourites. Keep up the great work.
Jordan Oliver
I went to Benson Road Deli (BRD) today (Saturday) and found the service and food to be excellent! We were initially looked after by the manager who was superb, chatty and informative! After our brunch we were then offered a glass of wine by Ryan, one of the wait staff - awesome dude and very friendly! We wouldn't have had the wine if it wasn't for Ryan. Great upsell! He came outside and chatted with us for a while, which made the service excellent! I would fully recommend if you are looking for a great brunch!
Daryl Smith
I've been a couple of times, and I find the food really good, especially the lamb rack cooked in some 5 types of spices and the duck special. Oh wow!! Don't know why people mention rude staff, I find them super friendly! Especially the blond girl who always reminds me about having tiramisu for desserts.. :)
Brian Castello
This cafe is consistently bad.. The staff need to be more attentive as to what the customers are ordering. I have been here many times as it is local but they need a serious revamp and a look at what they are doing, I'm unsure if the owner has any idea or if she just doesn't care. Multiple times my food orders have been messed up. 1. Asked for a salad take away, half kumara, half greens. Received a box of greens. 2. Asked for vegetarian wrap, received half vegetarian half TUNA (!?!?!). The coffee is very average and barista can be extremely rude, including yelling at other staff members in front of customers and crossing off orders without making them and leaving the service area completely. One good thing to say about BRD is the young brunette girl at the deli is actually onto it and knows what she is doing. BRD I seriously recommend you get new floor staff and real coffee grinders that don't automatically grind dose and tamp and are not adjustable. Will not be back.

Had a splendid dinner tonight @ BRB restaurant. We had ordered Lamb Curry and Fish served with roasted vegetables. the fish was cooked just right and it really got the taste of lemon pepper. My wife really enjoyed the lamb curry with yogurt sauce.

It's worth going here folks. Definitely a place not to miss to have dinner. Very friendly and humble waiters. :-)
Rhys M
Just back from dinner at BRD restaurant and would rate it possibly the worst meal we've ever been served. I took photos as couldn't believe a chef would serve up something this disgraceful. The steak was minuscule and cooked to burnt (ordered as medium), the prawns were 3 prawn heads with 2 tails, one of which was only the crunchy end of a tail with no meat, the other had a piece of meat the size of my little finger nail hanging out the end of it. This was served with 3 (yes 3) beans on a very average kumara mash.
When we complained they cooked another steak which was rare and not even warm,(which we didn't eat or pay for) with the reason given "the chef didn't want to overcook it"! The prawns were replaced with 3 pretty average examples that you might expect to get at a $15 pub buffet.
We asked to speak with the chef but were told " he doesn't eat meat so can't help". Disgraceful and obviously we'll never be back :(
Ruth Henderson Case
Decided to go to the BRD for dinner tonight as my parents have been before and highly recommended it. As my mum and I approached at approximately 8.30 they were cleaning the floors and looked as if they were closing. I asked if it was too late for dinner and the gentleman washing the floor said he would "check with the kitchen". He returned and said we could still have dinner. A polite waiter took our drink order and returned shortly after with our chosen bottle of wine. Wine was lovely but an ice bucket wasn't provided. We then placed our order for lamb shanks which were served to us in record timing. Unfortunately on first forkful we realised the Kumara mash was freezing cold (as if it had been pulled straight from the fridge). We asked if our meals could be popped in the microwave as they were cold. The waiter apologised and took them away. After a considerably long wait the meals returned and the plates were so hot that the waiter could only hold them with a cloth. Sadly however upon tasting, the meals were barely hotter than than the first time. We were asked a second time how they were and once again stated that they were still far from warm but declined to have them heated again (by now we really just wished we had chosen somewhere else). We ate a little more of the meals and asked for the bill. We were given a discount on the lamb shanks which was a kind gesture. We will however not be returning again. I think we should of been turned away rather than served a rushed, cold meal. Very disappointing, spoiled what should of been a nice meal out.
Judith Bruyn
I used to like this place but I will try to avoid in future. Every-time I have gone in this year the service has deteriorated more! The people behind the counter make you feel it an inconvenience taking your order, they frequently forget food and the hot drinks vary considerably. Sometimes they are barely warm. They clearly have a staff issue and need to employ people that are interested in being in the service industry. The quality of food is so inconsistent. I would not recommend!
Jacinta Clark
We also found the staff to be aloof, slow and complacent as if it was a chore serving us and having to answer questions about their food despite not being busy . My friend and I felt looked down on and unwelcome when we stopped for a coffee and biscuit half way through our fitness walk perhaps not looking the "part" with our wet jackets. We were also made to feel a nuisance when we asked for our table to be cleaned and the front door to be closed with a very cold wind coming through that cold wet day chilling us.We will give our business to other cafes in the area now. The young staff need to be trained in customer service asap as our café experience not pleasant.
May Wang
Went to BRD for a casual Sunday lunch. I visited previously and liked it but quickly regretted my decision to recommend dining here (how embarrassing).

We were forgotten in the downstairs seating area, orders never got taken despite our many stares at the waiters and waitresses. The whole experience was not memorable bar the overly greasy fries, which seemed like they were from the bottom of the bag as most fries were approx 1 cm in length.

Such a disappointment – I highly recommend they find staff who are not complacent, incompetent Gen-Ys.
Vicki
Lunchtime on a Sunday is very busy but we didn't wait overly long for food. Staff were friendly, food was lovely, coffee was good but smallest cup we've ever had for the price. Dinner on a relatively quiet night was exceptional, great quick service, all meals were lovely and not expensive. My daughter has just moved close to this Cafe so we are looking forward to many more visits.
Donna Courtney
Looking forward to a lovely lunch with family after ANZAC day services. Ignored on entry, one lunch and three drinks orders missed and arrived after others had finished but only after we asked where they were, no apology. Hot cakes run out and asked to order something else. Went to pay the extra for the new order totally ignored at front again after ten minutes walked out, figured they didn't deserve the $6.50 anyway. Food below average and drinks milky. Not a good end to a lovely outing.
Marsha Laskey
For a cafe that makes such great coffee and nice food, the staff lets them down. Particularly weekend staff who don't even have the courtesy to look up at you, let alone smile when you order at the counter.
Maybe it is because this is a very part-time job for them as most looked like students.
Disappointing as a smile is so easy to give.
Shaundey Katana
Great casual place... Food well depend what chef is on day or night.... I recommend I think his name is Brian.... Great cook...
Coffee again depend who is on... Recommend the two Polynesian girls or the tall skinny Caucasian guy.. Great barrister's...
Max Borland
Went for breakfast here the other weekend for the 2nd time - Ordered the eggs benne ( classic breaky cant really go wrong with it) it was yum. The first time i went i got the big breakfast - this was pretty average. Awesome service makes the cafe though - James will look after you. Top dude.
Louise Ngaei
Realy disappointing. It seems you need to be a regular to be treated well here - even though I have tried it 5 times! Each time I have been ignored upon entering, no matter who I was with and despite being polite. My parents and I went there for a special occasion recently and we were standing for ages one time, being totally ignored by the Maite'D huffing and puffing back and forth. Not that it should matter but we were well dressed, polite. No reason to be ignored. I felt sorry and embarrassed for my parents. The staff and Maitre'Ds have been dismissive and frosty every time. The times I have tried to look at the cabinets to see what takeaway food or salads are on offer I have been tutted at by rude, pushy staff trying to get past - despite fact that there is nowhere else to stand - bad layout indeed. A simple "excuse me please" would suffice. Terrible customer service. Food has been mixed ,sometimes good, other times very average. Having moved into the area I liked the positioning of the cafe and we could always get parks. I wanted it to be my favourite new local, but after too many crap experiences, I won't be back. The deli next door however, always has lovely staff - and great coffee! I'll go there or to Cafe Jazz up the road instead.
Amber
my go to cafe, great atmosphere and staff. always easy to find a park & one of the best coffee's in town. love the fact that i can eat breakie, lunch & dinner here all in one day (have done on more than one occasion!) for breakie i recommend the eggs bennie a great hangover cure! & for dinner give the fish of the day served on citrus & pea risotto- nom nom nom!
Sarah Well
this is our local we are here daily .love the staff food coffee . it is always busy and has a great vibe . now open for dinner it is our family favourite . one of the best run cafes in Auckland .metro winner of best cafe for about the last six or seven years . a real local gem with plenty of celebrity faces .a must try .
Ellie Abs
Rude staff, slow service and food average at best.

Not sure where this place gets its good reputation. We've tried it a few times now as it is a local cafe and will definitely not be going back. What a disappointment.

In fact, why not try the Maple room instead? $30 express lunch with a glass of wine for the same that we paid for two bruschetta, two drinks and a cake in BRD.
James Lockie
Great place to grab a coffee of some yummy cabinet food. Also a great option for a quick meal in the evening - very reasonably priced!
Simone Kelly
This is my local cafe, I eat & drink here most days. The staff all know my name, what I eat/drink. If it wasn't fantastic I would dine else where. I find the 3 previous reviews totally outrageous & thats what encouraged me to write this review as I felt they were misleading, given the critic gave Benson Road Deli 4 stars, "with perfect coffee & great staff" - I would suggest you try for your self.
Libby Barrett
This restaurant is quite handy and I thought it would be suitable for a quick Saturday night family meal. The 3 of us ordered chicken and leek pie. These days home made pies are flavoursome, nourishing and delicious. How could we be so wrong? The overwhelming flavour was uncooked flour in a thick and stodgy, tasteless chicken sauce. None of us finished our meals. Before we left, I quietly mentioned our dissatisfaction to the waitress and she was not overly interested.
More recently we tried the cafe again for coffee and the waitress then was so surly, impatient and unpleasant that we will not venture back again.
Danny
i went to this cafe last Saturday and i got to tell you i was disgusted by how rude the staff was and how sad the food was i have visited this place over a year ago now i thought it was OK then but since returning there to enjoy brunch i was very very disappointed and definitely will not be returning the tall Blondie lady that served us was so rude to us all the owner really has to reevaluate there staff as people come there to enjoy there time out and the food and atmosphere but this lady was so rude to us that we will not be returning and will be telling people not to go there
Stu
We have had takeaway Pizza there before from BRD and found the staff quite rude and the food of average quality. Because of a lack of alternative in the area (Cafe Jazz excluded) we decided we would give it another try and have to say I was somewhat underwhelmed.

We ordered the Salt and Pepper Squid, which turned out to be regular old deep fried calamari and the rest of the meal could best be described as average. When I mentioned to the waitress that dish served differed to what was in the menu, her response was ‘It’s not my fault, I didn’t cook it’!
