Review Bird On A Wire Orakei Bay - Remuera

Adrian Albuquerque
Great hospitality. Very considerate for dietary requirements. Lots of chicken options from burgers, bowls, sandwiches, etc. Kids menu available. Had the Korean fried chicken burger myself and it was great! Would definitely recommend

Great little extension to the Bird on a Wire franchise, offering really interesting chicken dishes in a welcoming café environment. Offers great chicken meals from rotisserie chicken to more sophisticated dishes. Try the new Katy’s Curry Chicken Burger, superb. Open all day and throughout holidays, Bird On A Wire has a solid little brunch menu that allows some leniency on the chicken motif. Go for any of the robust egg options from interesting takes on Eggs Bene, to the buckwheat pancakes. The bold will try the fried chicken on a waffle with mascarpone and ice cream option: Bird On A Waffle. Excellent, if very, very filling! The staff make this place though from quick and courteous service, to more realistic personalities than your robot waiters of fine dining. Go here and enjoy sophisticated takes on all chicken dishes, it’ll be worth it, even if you bloat yourself on the waffle!

We ordered the “Bird on a Waffle,” eggs on toast, and a couple of coffees. The food was really amazing.. especially the bird on a waffle! Delicious! My only complaints are the loud music from the gym next door (though not this eatery’s fault) and to be completely honest my coffee was subpar. But everything else including the atmosphere of the little place was just lovely!

Over all food was good but wish their chicken was a little more juicy. Presentation and service top notch.

Chicken was cooked to perfection, such creative flavours! Loved the Korean flavoured chicken. Service was excellent, thank you to the lovely young lady lini who served us and made sure we had everything we needed :) only complaint would be that your sign outside isn’t big enough we almost could not find the restaurant

Fantastic service with great staff - I was given a glass of ice water (without asking) while waiting for my takeout order. The classic baguette is delicious & I definitely recommend it.

First time trying bird on a wire the other day. Dined in with my partner the restaurant looks amazing! The staff are great especially the young pacific girl who served us I think her name was leenee? she was fabulous 🥳 we were very impressed with her service even with the restaurant being rather full. Food was great portions were a good size for the price. Anyways we will definitely be back again thank you young lady 😅

Have been to this beautiful joint 3 times now including today for my birthday. Always great food and hospitality from staff from when we arrive and leave. Food is has always been excellent all time’s I have come! I have not had a bad experience or time here. I love the friendly and welcoming atmosphere they give here. This place is one of my favourites and I’ll always come back to enjoy a great meal. Also thank you to the staff today for singing me happy birthday and the lovely cheesecake 🙂 see you guys again soon. From “The Waffle Girl” haha.

Ordered a whole roast bird and two salads to takeaway visiting a friend with baby in hospital. Catering for 3 and we had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. It was well packed for catering and easy to manage. Came with bread to a total of $62, so that is roughly $20 per person for dinner. Pretty good deal! Little hard to find for the first time but there are parking and will sure to pick up a lot of business from the neighbourhood.

We were out with grandparents and our 9 month old baby and the team at Orakei Bird on a Wire looked after us beautifully. Our waiter was so warm and friendly with our little baby and it was no problem to defrost some baby food in their oven. The menu has a great range of options including gluten free, dairy free and all the rest (so long as you love chicken) and kept everyone happy.

Fantastic option for a quick yet extremely healthy meal on the go. My Gf and I left nothing on our plates at all.

** Diners were trying to call out to the waitress to take their order<br/>** We got the wrong food twice!<br/>** The potatoes were so firm, we couldnt eat them all.<br/>On the whole not a good experience '-(<br/>We won't be back<br/>Shery<br/>

My first review since after lockdown. We stopped here during our basin walk. The restaurant was empty (2nd day of Alert Level 2). Had to wait a bit for service. We ordered the special BLT Buttermilk Chic burger. It came with nicely fried crispy chips. One of the better coffees too. The male server was pleasant and friendly. Would visit again. A good place to stop when doing the Orakei Basin Walk.

great tasty chicken, quick & easy.

Second visit. First visit the food took ages but was tasty when we eventually got the order, albeit missing an item. Seemed only fair to have another go, but after waiting ten minutes and not being served we gave up and walked out.

Great local, casual, pretty healthy eatery. Prompt, friendly service, reasonably priced, good selection of salads and the chickens delish. they’re on Uber eats too which is great for a lazy night in

First thing that hits you when you come in is how stinky this place is...like you can smell the mould/piss/grime accumulating on these pillows and couches...<br/>But...you decide to give it a try anyway...<br/><br/>2nd thing hits you....there's not a single client in there apart from you and for some reasons all the tables are dirty with plates piled on top of the other...2 Indian waiters are just having a laugh behind the counter not caring at all...<br/><br/>We wait a good 15 mins for them to decide to take our order...We order 2 (expensive) beetroot juices and these arrive in a little glass DROWNED in what appears to be 10 cubes of ice = 7 bux for what must have been 3 teaspoon of actual juice.<br/>The chicken was good (so far we've got that going for us, which is nice), but one of the salads tasted like soap and was impossible to eat.<br/><br/>At this point we all decided to get dessert elsewhere and yeah, that was our first, and last, experience at Bird on a Wire!<br/><br/>Bon appetit!<br/>

I'm a little disappointed with the food and the prices. Yes I love chicken meals but seriously there's nothing to rave about as the food options are all very average and a little salty. Good location by the train station and friendly staff members.

The Buttermilk Fried is fried chicken thigh with garlic mayo & Sriracha mayo. It was nicely deep-fried; the 2 mayos were quite similar in taste. The Korean fried bird burger was fairly good, but not exceptional. The golden beetroot & poppy seed blue cheese & caramelised onion with balsamic vinaigrette was lovely. It was a good lunch.<br/>(Food - 4/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3/5)<br/>Visited on 2 April 2019

Had the feed for 1 and it was such a good deal - 2 salads, chicken and bread. The chicken was delicious - perfectly cooked and seasoned. I had the potato salad and the tabbouleh salad and both were yum - had to take leftovers home. The bread was a little dry though. cute and funky place!

The food was very nice and healthy. And if you’re like me and enjoy a bit of spice and good flavours then this place is worth trying. Buttermilk fried chicken ! Yasss👌🏽

I've was here once  a few months ago and while the food was good, the service was inattentive and sporadic. I returned here last week and the food is still good but the service is now top-notch. My waitress (Cristina?) was an absolute joy; friendly and she was knowledgeable about what items my friend who has a peanut allergy, could eat. We were very impressed with the service this time! I had the katsu burger deal, with an Asahi beer and it was perfect! Coffee was good and strong and the outdoor seating area was sunny. Highly recommended if you're in the orakei area.

Went there with the family this afternoon. The service was good and friendly. Unfortunately the food did not match the friendly service. The salad my wife had was not fresh and felt like there was no dressing. I had the Katsu curry chicken burger which was chewy. I was told that maybe the chef fried it a bit more than he should have.

The floor was sticky during meal time so that needs a clean. Service was OK. The food and atmosphere is much better at Birdies in Sylvia Park, so I'd avoid this place if you want to have a decent chicken meal.

Great service. I love the food, very well done and a variety of options to choose from. I always enjoy coming back for more. Would definitely reccomend.

I mean food was great but the service was definitely lacking. It was only 15/20 minutes later that we were told a meal was out of stock. The replacement meal was then forgotten! To top it off they tried over charging us $60 dollars and even the free drink given as compensation for the forgotten meal!<br/> <br/><br/>Update - Got dragged back by friends who really wanted to go. Much better service this time and really enjoyed it. 3 Stars.

Went to bird on a wire for the first time and had high expectations. And those expectations were met. Our server was friendly and gave really food suggestions. We had a light meal with chicken wings which was delicious, juicy and not too spicy with the Korean sauce. Fries were crisp and seasoned well. Friendly staff, good food and close to public transport.

disgusting gravy, stale bread, dry unseasoned chicken, bland salad. We're not fussy people and we threw most of it out..and we were very hungry. what a waste of $50

Got the chicken schnitzel sandwich takeaway for lunch. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. The chicken was dry and the schnitzel had no flavour. The apple and fennel slaw was average but was at least crispy. Capers were barely existent and the whole thing needed seasoning. Salt would be a good start. Sandwich came in a takeaway cardboard box with no wrapping meaning it naturally fell apart on the short walk to the car. Not great for a $16 sandwich, Bird on a Wire. And definitely not worth waiting 15 minutes for when you're the only customer in the store. Two previous Uber Eats orders wielded similar results. Would not recommend. The Farro deli next door is infinitely better.

Love this cafe, and the one in Ponsonby. Beautiful chicken based Asian/thai fusion style salads and rolls, love the Bahn Mi. Always fresh, tasty and friendly service. If you like chicken - you must try it!

The Parnell Rose Gardens are just a stone’s throw away from my house. A favourite spot of mine during summer for its beautiful roses, Pohutukawa trees and close proximity to Judge’s Bay and views overlooking Auckland Harbour. A bonus is that you can lunch right next to the roses, making it the perfect spot for a picnic! Thanks to the Uber Eats app for making this possible!<br/>Last weekend, the weather had cleared and the sun was shining, so my sister and I headed across to the Rose Gardens for a picnic. I opened the Uber Eats app on my phone, and was excited to discover the many eatery options available for a picnic. We chose Bird on A Wire. Their aim is to simply feed the world with handmade and sustainable food – their menu includes free range rotisserie chicken, fresh salads, sandwiches and sides. Sounded like the perfect picnic food to me!

Came here with our dog and sat outside. Staff were friendly and service was good. Chicken and the salad were tasty and the price was good for what we had. Will definitely return.

A great addition to the area!<br/><br/>Staff were friendly and the design of the place was very cosy.<br/><br/>Bird on a wire always does their chicken right and this place was no exception. Chicken was perfectly cooked and had just the right flavour.<br/><br/>The potatoes was a bit odd, the outer layer was very chewy and the flavour wasn't quite there. We also tried the pate which was nice but nothing special.<br/><br/>Still a great place to dine especially for chicken lovers!
Aimee.
This place has great and healthy food. Many options for vegan food. However the price is a little expensive for what you get. The portions are quite small. The actual food is delicious and fresh and tasty.

Soooo good! 🤤 Never tried bird on a wire before but saw a groupon voucher for their food so decided to try it. We each got a 1/4 chicken with fries and salad which cost $24 for two people (using groupon voucher), $12 each. My chicken was so tender and just really nice. But my friend said hers was a bit dry and not as tender/juicy. But that may be because I got the thigh and she got the breast part of the chicken 😚. The chips and salad were good too. I don't really like heavy flavours so this was the perfect meal for me (it fit my taste preferences) 😊. The only thing is I was still a little hungry after finishing the meal and wanted more...but my friend said she was very full so 🤷🏻‍♀️. Personally, I think I should have gotten the 1/2 chicken meal instead 😋.<br/><br/>I definitely think the Groupon deal is really worth it ($12 per person for two people!!) but don't know about the other food on their menu. <br/>Definitely will be back to try their other stuff 👍🏻

Good options for dietary requirements with items Clearly marked as gluten free, dairy free etc. Really lovely to sit outside on a sunny day. The rotisserie chicken is delicious. I had the chicken feed for one which includes salad and bread and is pretty good value for money. My partner ordered the fried chicken and was a little disappointed with the serving size (pictured) for $15 but said the taste was good.
Sarah
The food was pretty good however the service was so slow! Our table of 3 waited for at least 45 mins for our food to come out. I would come back for the meals because they're definitely tasty but the service needs to be improved.

We ordered takeaways to be delivered via the "bird on a wire" website. Food was cold when arrived, rang to raise this issue and was offered replacement food. Declined offer as first lot took an hour to arrive, we heated what we received in oven and ate. <br/>Was pretty average, fries received cold and heated in oven are not flash !<br/>The manager on the night was to arrange one of the directors of the bird on a wire to ring me. This has not happened.<br/>Poor food and communication. Only good thing was the offer to replace the food - however who wants to wait another hour when you are hungry.<br/>Maybe you will have better luck?<br/>I won't be trying them again - unless ii am desperate - lol

Had the Korean BBQ baguette, went expecting it to be quite expensive though was quite surprised that it was very affordable and the baguette was also very good.

Nice new clean place. Food is ok but would expect a bit more from a place that specialises in chicken. Good quick turn around on getting food ready for pick up and delivery

Didn't realise this place was here! Had tried to go to the Takapuna branch a few months ago but had to leave due to a fire alarm and never made it back. Popped in for lunch with a friend. Very attentive service. Not too busy so didn't feel packed in. We both had large salads and pulled chicken which were yum but will definately go back to try the other options. The table next to us had a whole chook and trimmings.... looked so good!!

Went to new Orakei Basin area with a friend for lunch & ended up at Bird On a Wire by default as the other options in the complex were too expensive for a casual lunch.<br/>Ordered BLT, chicken schnitzel roll & fries. Fries were very good but the rest was served cold. It was very average. Nothing worse, in my opinion, than cold, crumbed, fried chicken.<br/>Coffee was fine.<br/>Server was friendly but not very efficient. Brought one water for 2 people and tin of cutlery only had 1 knife. Having to ask for these things to be corrected is a pain when all you want to do is relax & enjoy a break.<br/>Doubt we will bother to return - maybe for the fries!

Apparently this outlet is quite new. Food was delicious, tasty. We ordered Chicken Feed for 2 for $30. Also, we can choose up to 3 salads, that's great. Service was attentive, and friendly. However, maybe 1 of the servers wasn't quite used to the system here. The owner/manager has to remind him constantly. Something seems odd is no heater was in sight. Just wondering whether someone would sit outside after dark. Maybe they hide the heaters somewhere. Hahaha!

We had takeaway that was scheduled for 6:15 and it was smack on time, the service was great and quick. I had the hot wings and the buttermilk fried chicken definitely the best chicken I had had at a restaurant ever it was so delicious the hot wings were very nice they had a small spice but mild on the most so if you don't like spicy things but still want hot wings that is for you. The butter mill chicken was so good it was like KFC but 100 times better and guilt free!!

Went for dinner during the orakei street food fest. The space and setting is nice, but that's about all good there is to it. The food was very average, for a place that specialises on rotisserie chicken I would expect the meat to come off the bone but the chicken was just warm like it had been sitting somewhere for a while. We also ordered a Shnitzel BLT that had to send back to get heated, it came back just kind of warm. We were seated outside and the section was completely ignored for most of our stay, tables not been cleared after people had left, etc.. we had to help ourselves to a fresh water carafe. The place seems to have potential but definitely needs A lot of work, and maybe more staff..?

Called into Orakei Bay Village for an opening special Thursday 13 April 2017. This BoaW opens 8 am Good Friday 14 April - looks awsome. Thanks Sophie Gilmore. OMG the chicken is delicious. Restaurant Brands should be very worried. And the Hapi is a great match. The salad bar at the takeaway entrance looks amazing colourful.<br/>Ambiance 10/10<br/>Service 10/10<br/>Food 10/10
