Review Ipoh Malaysian Cuisine - Remuera

Tanusha Shakti
⭐️ Dishes , beautiful staffs , very friendly, welcoming and helpful, passionate chefs, clean dining area & pristine toilets (I check this at most spaces because a hygiene toilet says a lot of about the management). My husband and I had a 5 🌟 experience. We rang their restaurant 20 mins before arriving and they knew it was us. Welcomed us with a smile, and was keen with our requirement. We requested our food without meat, and we were served good portions of food. Their Nasi Lemak biasa was an emotion (being a Malaysian, it reminded me of home). Mee goreng was not oily, it was wet and saucy just the way my husband and I like it and their laksa broth was good, and curry puff was fresh. The filling did not seem like it was served frozen. We hardly dine out, as we enjoy cooking at home but we are glad to have stopped by at this gem space for a delicious, and affordable lunch. We will be back for their bubur Cha Cha. 🤤 Highly recommended.

I recently dined at a charming Malaysian restaurant that left a lasting impression with its delicious and authentic cuisine. The warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for an exceptional dining experience. The flavors were nothing short of sensational. The fragrant aroma of spices filled the air as I savored each dish. The 海南雞飯 was a standout, featuring fragrant coconut rice served with tender rendang beef and an assortment of condiments. The satay skewers were perfectly grilled and paired with a rich peanut sauce. What truly set this restaurant apart was the authenticity of the cuisine. It was evident that they used traditional recipes and high-quality ingredients to create a remarkable culinary experience. The service was impeccable, with staff who were not only knowledgeable about the menu but also enthusiastic about sharing their cultural insights. This Malaysian restaurant is a hidden gem for those seeking delicious and authentic Malaysian cuisine. If you're in search of a culinary journey through Malaysia's rich flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit.

A very busy and popular Malaysian restaurant in Remeura. A lot of different variety of dishes and good portion size. We had the Hainanese Chicken Rice and the Fish Head Noodle Soup. Both were very good and flavoursome.

Very clean restaurant with authentic Malaysian food - we enjoy the char kuay teow and fish collar noodles the best!!

Great food and the best curry my Malaysian partner has had in Auckland. The char was charry, the curry was rich and deep in flavour, coconuty, spicy, I don't know how else to explain it was really good. We did have to wait for a table at lunch time so be diligent.

Looking for Authentc Malaysian food, highly recommended here. Friendly staff and fast serving. Food were tasty and good portion. Owner originated from Perak. Would love to try other dishes on the menu in my next visit.

Love the BBQ Pork Lakasa! The pork was juicy and I enjoyed the fatty texture.

Been here few times and tried most of the items on the menu. Food: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 Price: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑 Ambience: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 Service: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 Dishes that I highly recommend from this place: - Wat tan hor - Char kuey teow - Chicken rice Wat tan hor is one of the best in Auckland in my opinion. Flat rice noodle was nicely cooked and served with egg gravy on top. If this is going to be your first visit to Ipoh, I will suggest you to try this dish or chicken rice. Chicken rice doesn’t taste like Hainanese style chicken rice though but still taste good. The chicken was very tender and they serve the chicken together with bean sprout and small bowl of soup. Char kuey teow was served with generous amount of fried pork lard and the noodle was delicious. This place gets really busy during lunch and dinner hour so either you come earlier or later to avoid the crowds. Also, the whole place become very crowded when they separate the table for small group (2people) , people standing nearby the entrance or walkway waiting for tables, waiters walking around to take orders and serve food. Its a nice Malaysian eatery place with modern interior however you probably can’t really enjoy it when it’s packed with people. Staff are very helpful and friendly but they might not be able to be as attentive during busy hour so please be a little considerate when they respond a little slow upon your request. Despite the slower service and crowded environment during busy hour, I will still visit Ipoh when I feel like eating Malaysian meal.

Chicken is extremely fresh delivery every morning. They can adjust the taste to fit your needs. Heathy and delicious cooking. Always cater the food to your need. Restaurant is always clean, the owner always asked you humbly of where they can improve to meet your taste. Best restaurants and service!

You wouldn't expect much from a newly opened restaurant but this place looks to be doing ok. It says they are open for breakfast but they weren't open until about 1100 when we went. They have quite a few tables so once you go in grab a table and you get a menu and water. Once you're ready, go to the counter to order and pay. The menu isn't super large but does have quite a few Malaysian favourites. We just ordered a regular size and the portions were decent for that. We ordered their chicken satay, Chicken Laksa, char kueh teow and chicken rice. It didn't take too long for the food to come out, around 10 minutes. The food came as it was ready so we ended up having the satay last. The satay had a nice flavour, the sauce was quite nice but not very spicy. The char kueh teow was quite nice, good char flavour (almost burnt but not) but it was a bit on the salty side. The laksa was also quite nice, good flavour. The chicken rice was ok, a fairly small portion of chicken and the rice didn't have that nice oil rice flavour. The soup had a good chicken flavour to it though. The food here is really nice. Hopefully it will get better with more experience.

Shared the nasi lemak with beef rendang, fried tofu and noodles with curry chicken - everything was on point, portions were massive and super delicious - would definitely come back for more!

Reasonably priced authentic Malaysian food, and attentive friendly staff. Very satisfied with our order today. Would return to try the other dishes on their menu. Highly recommended!

Really Malaysia taste ❤️ especially their Teh Tarik omg love it!

Came here to try the otak otak as pictured. The otak was nice. One of the few places I know that sells it in Auckland and it was the best. Also had laksa and prawn mee. Disappointed that they dishes did not come with any chilli on the side which is odd for a Malaysian restaurant. The laksa was exceedingly lemak and so good I took the gravy home.

Enjoyed everything we ordered. Very friendly service. Food came out really quick. Portion size was good. We will definitely be back.<br/>

This quaint restaurant has had the best dry wonton noodle with bbq pork and mee goreng ive tasted in NZ. The hainanese chicken rice was standard but the wat tan hor and char kuay teow was good. Serves alcohol and deserts. Servers are always friendly.
Ellynn
My friend and I went here to lunch. We had a meal each with the chicken satay to share. It was pretty good. I wanted to try more but I will just come back to try more. I also tried their coffee which was unique to my taste.

Pleasantly surprised. Was out visiting family by Remuera and we felt like Malaysian. Looked up this placed so decided to give it a try. We found the food and service excellent. Probably one of the best beef rendang that I’ve had. Ordered the dumplings just assuming they were fried, but arrived in a soup which was full of flavour. Dumpling filling generous, plump and juicy. Roti light fluffy, also got sweet and sour pork which was probably one of the best I’ve had in a while too. Finished off with a Malaysian coffee which was dark and chocolatey, nicely sweetened with condensed milk.

I’m a born and bred Singaporean, so I know it when I taste a good Hainanese chicken rice.<br/><br/>This is by far, the best Hainanese chicken rice I’ve had in Auckland. The chicken is tender, the rice is perfectly flavoured and the chilli? Perfect. On point.
Gabriel Kung
I ordered take away this time. Will try in store next time.<br/><br/>Very tasty food.
Sylvester Kuo
Excellent shop with a wide selection of Malaysian cuisine, the price for the main dishes are acceptable but not so much for the entree. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. We will be back.
Lucy
Delicious food and great service! Food comes out so quickly, you don’t have to get food envy from your neighbours. I’ve been here 3 times in the last few weeks because the food is so delicious and reasonably priced! Staff are also very friendly.
Columba Park
What a tidy comfortable place with the authentic food, beautiful flavour. Highly recommend their fish head soup. Will definitely come back again to try more of their food.
Gail Christie
I drove there to pick up a Nasi Lemak Chicken and a chicken roti chanai. The size was appalling. It wouldn't have been enough to put on the rice or enough sauce to dip your bread into. They didnt even apologise. Don't even ask for chicken satay as they never have it available. I will never go to this restaurant again. A big rip off.
Miguo
The mee goreng and otak-Otak are AMAZING! Must try!
Justin Wong
pretty nice malaysian food
Simone
Loved the noodles! Wat Tan Hor was my favourite!!

Finally I don’t need to drive all the way to Dominion Road to eat noodles.<br/>Really good food, char flavour was perfect!<br/>Just amazing

I used to come here for the Hainanese chicken rice using zomato gold all the time. It's delicious but if it's without zgold discount then I think it's a little pricey.
Annie Low
Highly recommended their fish head noodles soup! Curry laksa was legit as well. As a Malaysian, I’ll always bring my friend and colleagues here ahhahaha! Go try it out if you haven’t.<br/>
Saiko
Food is awesome and have friendly staff, hope they come back on zomato gold!
Tofumaster
Went there for lunch and used Zomato gold. Very good CKT, big portion, couldn’t finish it so I had it for dinner. Will come back.<br/><br/>Nice and clean & friendly staff
Jessica Lin
Came here with Zomato Gold and my partner and I always order their Chicken Laksa. Taste is consistent, rich, flavourful and exactly what a laksa should be. They include generous toppings of chicken meat, potato and a half boiled egg. The egg is amazing when its soaked up in the broth. I’ve always questioned the potato in the laksa but I don’t particularly mind. The noodles are generous and each bowl will leave you satisfied and very full. I may venture out and try their other dishes but I can’t help but choose their laksa every single time.
Welovefud
We arrived an hour before closing but we still managed to finish our meal at a normal pace because our order came fast.Best char kuey teow tasted and the nasi lemak had all the side dishes that was normally included. It is a bit pricey than others but the taste is better.I will be back for more.

Use Zomato Gold - my code (PEIS6685) for the first time here. Nice food with good price with Zomato Gold. Authentic curry laksa and ice coffee. Will come back again. Recommend to all Malaysian food lover. Btw, I am Malaysian. Loved this place.
Agatha
Clean place, nice staff.<br/>Ordered the hainanese chicken and char ku-ey te-ow.<br/>The rice was a bit bland, unlike the usual rice that comes with a hainanese chicken dish. Chicken itself was good.<br/>Char kuey teow was reasonable but a bit too salty for my liking.<br/>
The. GIANT. Eater
Nice and clean Malaysian restaurant. The food tastes authentic as well. We wanted to order the Hainanese chicken but it has run out by the time we came to this place. However, the 2 dishes that we ordered have nothing to complain about. Will definitely come back for my favorite Hananese chicken next time 🐓🐓🐓

Good food. Good value.
Jonathan Chen
Very tasty, authentic Malaysian. Very friendly staff, willing to sort stuff out if not overly proactive. Good serving sizes except for the char kuey teow which we thought was a bit small (even the large size which we ordered). Recommended.
Joseph Taleni
Probs the most authentic maylaysian ive had in auckland. Loved it.
Vivian C
We came here with Zomato Gold and ordered the Seafood Curry Laksa, Char Kuey Teow, and Pork Dumplings.<br/><br/>The laksa had a beautiful rich flavour, the noodles were cooked to perfection, the prawns were juicy, but unfortunately the squid had no taste at all and a bit difficult to chew. <br/><br/>The char kuey teow had an aromatic, charred wok fried flavour and every bite was delicious.<br/><br/>The dumplings were nothing special but the clear soup was great to have in between rich spoonfuls of laksa.<br/><br/>The size of the restaurant is quite small however, so be prepared for some tight seating situations. I also feel like communication could have been more efficient between staff as we were required to show our Zomato Gold unlock to two different staff members.

Explored this new Malaysian place for dinner. Place was small but cozy and clean. Staff were friendly and attentive. I had their hainanese chicken rice and my partner had the chicken laksa. Coming from Malaysia myself, I must say that this is by far the best hainanese chicken rice I've tasted in Auckland by far. The chicken was juicy and tender and the portion was just right. The laksa was delicious as well but my partner wished there were a bit more chicken pieces in his meal. Normal prices were a bit steep (an average of 19-20 dollars for a main meal! By far most expensive Malaysian food I've had!) but thanks to the 1+1 Zomato gold offer, we got to enjoy the delicious food for the price of one meal.
Jenny Da
Nice food and really good portions, two dishes between two people and we even had to takeaway. IPoh also has convenient street parking, with the zomato gold offer at the moment it is definitely 5/5. <br/><br/>We ordered the chicken curry laksa and vegetarian wat tan hor, both very popular Malaysian dishes. They were served quickly and tasty!
Maryam HN
Friendly staff and very Clean! Best Malaysian in city!<br/>

Came back here a few times already on pay month as you can’t beat Delicious authentic Malaysian food ~ taste like home, best is the wat tan hor gravy noodles
Ms. Piggy Loves Food
Very expensive, less ingredients for this dish.. the restaurant menu is very limited. Rather go to Sims kitchen near Hillsborough or Uncle Man on K road
Felicia
Did you know this place closes at 10pm? That’s amazing to know if you’re ever in the mood for a late supper. Arrived at 8:20pm and it was nearly full house on a weekday. But we got a table and the service was pretty quick. We wanted to try the Hainanese Chicken but it was completely sold out. :( So instead, we tried the Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak, Wat Tan Hor and Wan Tan noodles with BBQ pork. Food was excellent! Will definitely be coming back to try other dishes.
Ming_Angela Y
Delicious and authentic Malaysian cuisine. We ordered the Wat Tan Hor and Char Kuey Teow. Very generous portions, the large can feed 2 people. We had 2 larges amongst 3 people and were very full. <br/><br/>If you love Malaysian then this is definitely one of the places to check out! :) <br/><br/>Found out through zomato gold so made it even better value.
Sophie Wang
We ordered the fish ling collar noodle soup which had a delicious broth and lots of fish meat, the noodles were the thin ones which personally perfer thicker. We also got the wonton noodles with curry on top, this was yummy, definitely a comfort dish. And the side of tofu which was a bit on the smaller side compared to other Malaysian restaurants I've been to, it was what you expected. Overall, great experience and I would advise to book in advance as there was a queue when we left.
Shogun
Authentic Malaysian food. Hainanese chicken to die for. Easy parking right outside.

Went here for graduation celebration. Ordered char kwe tiau, curry laksa seafood and otak otak. Love the food. Very tasty and great
SS
Second time here, loved the wat tan hor last time and loved the chicken laksa and the mee goreng tonight. Only dish I've not been a fan of so far is the fish head noodle soup, very thin and watery and not as creamy as other Malaysia joints. Too much pickled veg so the soup is quite sour. Would continue to come back and try the rest of the menu :-)
David Chen
We were lucky enough to get a table prior to the lunch rush on a weekend. The large portions are big enough for two medium eaters. The wan tan hor was delicious and so was the hainan chicken. Would definitely recommend this place for Malaysian food. The selection isn’t as great as say, Mamak at Takapuna, but they do well with the dishes on offer.
HJ
We found this place purely because of Zomato gold.. and when we arrive we also noticed it was one of the Metro top 10 cheap eats 2019 - Bonus! Relatively small this place is clean and simple. It was easy to see this place was popular and we arrived at the right time because 20 mins later every table was full.<br/><br/>The menu isn’t huge but they do Malaysian food well. We ordered the Wan Tan Hor (large) and the Mee Goreng (regular). The portions are very generous! And the large size was huge. Unless you are a big eater or really hungry the large size should be fine for most. The Wan tan hor isn’t the most appealing dish to be honest but it’s perfect for a cold day and is actually quite tasty. Filled with soup, thick rice noodles, egg and meat (or tofu for vegetarians) with a little bit of added chilli we really enjoyed this dish. The Mee Goreng is a safer option and I’d definitely recommend it here. Saucy noodles, shredded cabbage, tomato and chicken (vege option available) is a great dish. <br/><br/>A great casual place for dinner. Will be back to try more! Plus parking is easy (for Remuera) with a small public park across the road.

First time visiting this newish establishment. Had the lobak, prawn noodles and char Kueh tiaw. Very happy with our meal. decent portion and of very good quality. Will Combe back to try more and recommend to others.

Tt is a clean and tiny restaurant. With this location it is surprisingly not too hard for me to find a parking in the weekday. Very friendly and smart staff. Our chicken laksa and hainanese chicken rice are nice. Especially the rice was very tasty. We will come back for other dishes for sure.
Nicole Kwan
The char kuey teow is really authentic and good. Place is clean and easy to find. Parking is a bit difficult. We also had the curry laksa but I would prefer if the broth was hotter in temperature as it felt lukewarm to me.<br/><br/>Will def come back for the char kuey teow!

Specials are Fish, Prawn noodle soups and corn flakes chicken/prawns. Two specials can't be ordered at the same time for Zomato gold. So we ordered the fish noodle soup, char kway teow and otak otak. Otak otak was really spicy so beware of you can't stand heat. Food was ok, wasn't bad but nothing to brag home about either. $20 for large portions, a bit pricey compared to other Malaysian places. Go early to avoid crowds, we went at 5:30pm and the place was empty then by 6pm, the Saturday crowds starting to trickle in. Food came really fast but service can be improved.
Dora The Food Explorer
Never mind about the parking situation, I have to be honest I did not enjoy the food. The Wat Tan Hor, which in my opinion had too much soy sauce, almost no other ingredients but the thick noodles. The mi goreng was way too sweet and no ‘Mi goreng’ flavour at all. The Otak-otak tasted OK but the inside was too moist and mushy while the outside was too dry. I’m sorry but flavours were just not quite right.
VK Low
very lovely place, food is AMAZING!! the Curry Laksa is really authentic!! so as the Char koey teow and Wanton Noodles.. place is always full house (the only bad side).  so will be great to call in and book a table. if there's a group of people.
Fok Kawai
Came to Ipoh on a rainy Thursday night.. perfect timing for service of food. Authentic Malaysian food, just tastes like food back home. I would highly recommend people to come and try this family restaurant. Fish head beehoon is absolutely mindblowing. :)
HungryMichael
Overall food was excellent, was lucky enough to get a seat straight away when we came here. It is very popular. Had the char kuey teow and the lamb biryani. It is very crowded inside though, once we sat down we could not move anywhere so was a bit awkward.<br/><br/>Good zomato gold experience<br/><br/>Food: 5/5<br/>Ambience: 3/5<br/>Service: 5/5
Florence Lai
Huge portions for the price and it was an even better deal with the Zomato Gold. Food came quick and service was friendly. It was very busy during peak hours and weekends the last two times we went. Also note it can get quite stuffy inside. However my family thoroughly enjoyed the food and we plan on going back again sometime soon.
Sheisgyngan
Nice food, great ambience, kid friendly, quite authentic Malaysia dishes, friendly service. Highly reco.

Very clean & busy little malaysian restaurant. Fast service the food came out within 15mins of ordering. The ‘large’ dishes are actually large.. lol. Its enough to be shared between two people.<br/>We had the char kuey teow, fried meehun & fish head noodle. The char kuey teow meehun were good. I liked the fact that they werent anywhere near as oily as other malay restaurants. The soup was a bit salty but it was flavoursome with generous toppings.
Katharina Wulandari
One of the most authentic malaysian restaurants in Auckland!! I highly recommend their Hainanese Chicken Rice as well as the Chicken curry and bbq pork noodle - very tasty, not oily, taste authentic. Love the Fish Head Soup too, I will not get bored of it. Their portion size is also huge so the meals can be easily shared. Look forward to come back again!
Fiona Yao
Its a little clean local restaurant, attentive service from staff and some dishes have authentic taste. We came here with Zomato Gold, otherwise we may choose somewhere else due to price.
Jeremy Tan
The food here is amazing. My favourites so far are the Char Koay Teow and the Wat Tan Hor. The chef cooks both very well and you get the added wok hay dimension, which is hard to find in Akl. In addition the CKT comes with pork lard and the WTH comes with pickled green chilies, which is very reminiscent of the flavours from home.
Dean S
Average food. Average service. Not the best place around, but not the worst. Worth the price you pay with Zomato Gold. Wouldn't come here without Zomato Gold though.
Teresayylim
Food was good and authentic

Great value for money, generous portions and fast service! Came here with Zomato Gold. Curry Laksa was tasty. Nasi Lemak was a fave, will definitely be back for more.

Authentic Malaysian restaurant. The wan tan hor was delicious. The prawn noodle was pretty good too. Portion wasn’t too bad. Priced around 18$. Good value for money.

Food and portion sizes were very good. 5 stars for the staff, they were very responsive, friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean and tidy.
Kim Salud
The food was so good and they had a big serving for a cheap price. The place was nice and clean. And there were heaps of parking available just right outside the place. Highly recommended!

Booked for table in advance, requested for high chair- they had it all set up on arrival. Very friendly staff. Mee goreng and roti canal was nice. Would definitely go back to try other dishes. Though a bit more expensive compared to other places

Had Char kuey teow, nasi lemak beef rendang and fish head noodles. Overall, the taste of the food was great, certainly better than the average Malaysian restaurants in Auckland. <br/><br/>However, the service could've been better. One of the crew members wasn't clear with the restaurant's own Zomato Gold policy, indicated to us that it cannot be used on certain dishes. The actual policy is you can't use Zomato Gold on two special dishes (if I remember correctly includes prawn noodles, fish head noodles and another dish). We only discovered this when another staff told the customers next to us. If you wish to use Zomato Gold, make sure you confirm with the right staff.<br/><br/>When our food arrived, we requested for cutleries from the same staff. Waited for more than 5 minutes and the cutleries were given to us upon our second request. When our fish head noodles arrived, we requested for an extra small bowl (twice!) from the same person. I can't be bothered to ask for the third time. Understand that it was a busy Saturday afternoon, but the staff could've been more patient and attentive. She was rather impatient too when we asked to pay our bill for some reason. The price is rather steep for this type of cuisine, I think the customer service certainly has to be better to offset this. Hope to see some improvement in our next visit...

Limited food varieties.<br/>Service is good and simple.<br/>Have limited seat.<br/>Food quality is good, decent portion and authentic Malaysian food. <br/>Good place for a quick easy meal.

Recommended by a friend a new Malaysian restaurant in remuera so we decided to give it a try. It was a long wait of 30minutes and we decide to train our patience.Being a food lover and critic, there is nothing I can fault on at all. Every dish we ordered are authentic and flavoursome. The wan tan noodle (kor Lor new) brings memories of food back home. We are very pleased with the food and service was good. The wait is worthwhile. If there is anything I can feedback, would love to be able to reserve a table.
Saphic Chan
Food was really good. But I have to be really honest and admit that I will never be back here again if not for Zomato gold (get it with my discount code SAPHIC). It’s out of the way, especially with weekday peak hour traffic and prices are far too steep. We were shocked multiple times at how tiny the portions were for the fried tofu and the teh tarik. Staff knew we were in shock, but assumed that it was over everything else but the portion size.
Ian Soong
Had Wat Tan Hor, Hainanese Chicken Rice and BBQ pork wanton noodles. Wat tan Hor is nothing too special. Chicken in Hainanese Chicken rice is bland, a dash of light soya sauce would make a different. The BBQ pork portion in the Bbq pork wanton noodle is pathetic considering they charge about $20 for it. Lots of noodles but hardly any bbq pork.<br/><br/>Food is nothing too special considering the name of the shop you thought you will get a good Ipoh horfun on the menu but not to be found.<br/><br/>Relatively pricey compared to other Malaysian restaurant.
Yenzi
Restaurant is clean and bright.Staff are friendly and polite. Food are alright for that price. Tried a few noodles dishes and otak-otak, tasted good, not wow for me though.
Ilenia Chandra
Cute and cozy modern Malaysian setting. Most main dishes went up to $20+ for a large size (shown in photos) so quite expensive if you’re not using Zomato Gold. I expected more toppings on my Chicken Curry Laksa and the noodles were harder than I would’ve liked. However, Mee Goreng was quite delicious 😋 Will be back to try more things from their menu! TIP: Remember to bring your own takeaway box because they charge!
Tanz
First impression is the place is clean and new. However it’s not easy to find car park if you don’t live in the area. The portion was big for large size. Laksa tasted good but the wat tan hor could be better. Overall it’s not a bad place at all but nothing wow about it.

Best wan tan mee in Auckland! We loved the wa tan hor and nasi lemak too. Great service, generous portions, awesome atmosphere, authentic Malaysian cuisine.
Nacho
A nice cosy restaurant with very nice food. We enjoyed all the dishes, especially the roti which was extra delicious. The staff are very friendly and attentive despite being a full house with all tables full.

Nice and clean cafe style restaurant. We ordered hainanese chicken rice ,char kway teow and Malaysian milk tea . Food was good, we could tell they use good quality ingredients but it took over 30mins for the food to arrive......<br/><br/>Hainanese chicken rice was bland and they put lots of white pepper on the chicken which made it tastes a bit weird ... on the other hand , Kway teow was very delicious!
Aireena Omar
Laksa broth was nice, just wished there were more condiments/ garnishes. Size of nasi lemak was quite small and seating area could be improved.<br/><br/>However,overall experience was good, realised that there were repeat customers which is always a plus sign to good food. Will come again and try other dishes 🍴

Authentic Malaysian food, worth the money and definitely awesome deal with zomato gold
LIZ L
Beautiful flavours. Mee goreng was amazing and best we have had in a long time. The seafood curry laksa was also delicious. Service was great and restaurant is clean. We ordered the large and didn’t think it was a large portion. Kind of standard Asian positions and this is the reason for 4 stars.
Alix
Food is amazing in a way that it sets itself out from other Malaysian restaurants. They also have good portion sizes. The service is fantastic, the staff are all so pleasant to deal with :) The place is small and can be busy so I think it’s best to reserve a seat if you’re coming in big groups.
Hallie Low
Very nice and authentic Malaysian place! Love their hot coffee in an authentic small coffee cup. We had prawn mee and char Kuey teow - see pics below. Overall very happy with the experience and would recommend this place! 👍🏻

We have been 5 times now and ust had lunch.Very Friendly, helpful Team. Authentic, generous portion food. DEFINATELY will be back. Highly recommend.<br/><br/>It can get more busy on Saturdays now they are on Zomato so you might need to wait a little but worth the wait for authentic Malaysian cuisine.

Nice little place in Remuera. It becomes crowded quickly, so booking recommended. The food tastes good and reasonable portions. With Zomato gold it’s a good deal. Would definitely go back there.

Every time, when I have no idea for dinner I will come here and never regret~<br/>Clean environment, good customer service, and serve quickly with yummy food~

We came in for dinner on a Friday and ordered two large dishes. Portions were huge, wat tan hor was delicious and the mee goreng was good but could have bit more flavour. Service was on point and we were happy with everything.

Came for lunch with my kids today. The place has a modern chic decor staff is friendly maybe because it's the weekend today there's a long queue outside the place and we waited another half hour after ordering. We ordered the favorite fish head noodles, sweet n sour chicken on rice and spring rolls. Overall the food are tasty and the sweet n sour chicken was full of flavour by using fresh tomatoes rather than flavour paste which is good for the kids and they also enjoyed the spring rolls without any sauce I personally would prefer if they do provide the sweet chilli sauce for the spring rolls,as for the fish head noodles it's a little bit disappointing that it used most fish bones not much fish to eat given it charges $24. Overall it's a pleasant experience I will come back try out other dishes on the menu.

The staff needs to be trained how to take table numbers. They took down my name and mobile number and said they'll call me when it's my turn. I left for less than 5 mins and when I returned, they told me they gave my table to another couple as I was not there when they call my name. But yet they could call the phone of another lady who was waiting outside the shop - what the?!<br/><br/>When the next table became available, instead of giving it to me, they gave it to another couple who came after me and gave me some not-so-clever response about how the couple didn't take my table and that it's another couple. Like, what does it matter?! I've never heard a more ridiculous and senseless response than this. Seriously, please learn to arrange for people waiting in queues if not you'll piss off even more people.<br/><br/>I will never go back to this place even if its 1-for-1 on Zomato.

Newly open Malaysian restaurant. Small but cozy. Authentic food. Good value with Zomato gold 1+1 (but not include some special dishes). $38 for two people tonight. Better book in advance 'cause they are quite fully seated sometimes.<br/>

This place exceeded my expectations. Staff were friendly, attentive and our orders were taken/food arrived within an appropriate time frame. The food was tasty, delicious and authentic - I can’t wait to come back!

Asked for the food to be MSG free and less salt for kids to have. The food came out to be VERY Salty and full of MSG. Long waiting time as well. Don’t think we will come again.

Simple yet good quality food! Staff are very friendly and great customer service! We had Nasi Lemak beef rendang and the curry chicken! We enjoyed our meal 😊

The fried kuay teow was delicious and service was really good. Venue was not bad, but a little small. Not much room for larger groups. Would definitely come back and try the other dishes.

Char kuey teow was sooo good! One of the most authentic ones that ive had in nz. The environment and staff was all really nice! Loved it, will definitely come again

Delicious and generous serving is what to be expected here. <br/>Great customer service and food was prepared very quickly. Hainanese chicken had a very good serving of chicken. Their stirfried noodles was very flavourful and roti was crunchy and not too oily.

Good portion, food is also good.............................................................................................................

Staff is very friendly! They allow us to go in before it’s open. <br/><br/>The Chicken laksa is good! Chickens are very juicy. But I find the soup bit on the blend siDe. But it taste fresh and yummy perfect for winter. <br/><br/>Fried rice noodle - this is a good dish! It taste like Malaysia penang fried rice noodle. Because they use lots of pork lard to fried the noodles! Which take the fried rice noodles to the next level! I never have a fried rice noodle in Auckland that using it. So I’m highly recommend for this dish.<br/><br/>Ice tea - Very strong and flavorful. We couldn’t resists to order one. Because the place has such a strong teh brewing aroma (in a good way). I wish the glass is bigger so it could mix with more ices in it. <br/><br/>One thing that annoyed me it’s the sharing bowl was too small. Overall it’s a really great experience.

Very friendly staffs and great food ! I m so happy to find a new Malaysian option around our place. <br/>Beware the large size is massive !! <br/><br/>All dish we tried had good flavour, however the chicken is not as moist and soft as I would like...<br/>We also tried the milk tea ...was okay , I had better ones in Auckland, so probably won’t order again but I will definitely be back to tried other dishes :)

This place is small but cute with lovely lighting and is super clean. Staff are friendly and attentive. Although we came it quite late, food was still really good! The roti was soft and crispy and curry was perfect with juicy chicken pieces. Really appreciate it having no bones. Can’t wait to come back to try the other dishes 🙂

Came here for dinner. Really enjoyed the food. We ordered Pork Dumplings, Nasi Lemak (Beef Rendang), and the Wanton Noodles (Bbq pork + Chicken curry). All were yum although we thought the dumplings would be dry (see photo - it was still pretty good though). Their Beef Rendang is probably my fave one among all the Malaysian places I’ve tried. Really has a kick to it and very flavorful (though I wish you can choose to have a fried egg on top as an add-on like other Malaysian places). The Wanton noodles were really good too. Service was pleasant, staff were attentive. Also, glad we came early because there’s not much seats. <br/><br/>Will definitely be back! :) <br/><br/>PLEASE HAVE A FRIED EGG OPTION AS AN ADD-ON :) :)

Nice and clean little Malaysian restaurant, situated on Remuera road close to St Johns.<br/><br/>The Char Ku-ey Te-ow was delicious. Well flavored flat noodles and the stir fry wasn’t greasy. <br/><br/>The Mee Goreng was well spiced, but the noodle was a little sticky.<br/><br/>The Nasi Goreng Kampung was a bit flavorless, the meat within was slight dry. <br/><br/>The Fish Head Noodles was quite different. The pan fried salmon bones was chewy and quite flavorful. However the broth had too much sour cabbage.<br/><br/>The noodle stir fries were well excellently portioned for $16. <br/><br/>Taste: 6.5/10<br/>Presentation: 6/10<br/>Service: 8/10<br/>Ambience: 7.5/10<br/>Value for money: 7/10<br/><br/>Price $25 per person<br/>

Delicious food and amazing service. Except the kopi unfortunately (in comparison to other places we have had it) Good menu options too! Service was absolutely amazing!

The food portion was big and nice and I had my favourite wanton dry egg noodles. The food service was fast considered there are so many people's inside the restaurant. And lastly the lady I think she must be the owner is really friendly n I saw she asked her customer how is the food..good job thank you Zomato.

Very friendly and attentive staff! The food tastes authentic and portions are generous! Love that they also have chilli ginger and green chillies which made the meal even better! Will definitely come back!

Very tasty and delicious. Great deal with ZGold. But just be aware fish collar noodle and prawn dish could potentially be a special. <br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Environment: 4/5<br/>Food Quality: 5/5<br/>Food Quantity: 5/5<br/>Presentation: 4/5<br/>Price per person: $20

Great taste and friendly staffs, I specially like the hot milk tea and my parent like Nasi Lemak. My wife really enjoy the iced coffee. Portion is good and enough.

I’ve always wanted to try IPoh because it’s near where I live. I got the regular wantan noodles with wonton and BBQ pork. The regular portion was actually quite big so I’m pretty happy about that! The noodles were quite chewy and a bit sweet but still on the savoury side. There were also 3 wontons but I didn’t get a photo. My mum got the large fish noodle soup and couldn’t finish it. I tried a bit of it and it tasted really good! My brother got the large fried rice and the flavours were also delicious. I’d recommend this place!

After I saw all the 4 and 5 stars reviews, I decided to go and have a try. But after tonight’s experience, I was shocked. My experience was completely opposite to the reviews I saw. Although the staff was friendly, but the service was bad. The food quality was poor and it was very expensive. The price does not match up to the food quality at all.

It’s my 5th time here! And I am always here for the fish head noodle soup! It’s so good that it’s one of my comfort food during a cold winter day!!! The kopi and Teh Tarik are so legit as well that they are not those sachet drinks! <br/><br/>It’s my new go to place for Malaysian food even I live all the way on the Shore!
Chloe
Food tastes amazing and the owner of the restaurant is very accommodating. Would recommend the char kway teow, hainanese chicken rice and teh tarik :)

Found this hidden gem on our way to the laundromat. Staffs are friendly and attentive. We ordered Mee goreng and fish head noodle, pretty happy with the experience, looking forward to try their laksa next time.

We have been looking forward to try this place ever since we saw their sign during renovations as we love Malaysian food and live around the area. The reviews have also been great. But unfortunately our first visit was very disappointing. <br/><br/>Service was very bad which I guess was because they were busy but I’ve been to other restaurants which had more tables, were busier and also only 2 floor staff with much better service. You have to go right up to the counter to get any attention and even though the staff were nice when you do get their attention, this really needs to be addressed. They have cutlery and tissue on the table which was great but would be good if there was also water and cups provided as it was also quite a mission to get some - especially since you have to get it one small cup at a time.<br/><br/>Food was ok. Chicken curry laksa was good although the regular size was small for the price compared to other restaurants. Char Kuay Teow was a good portion for a regular size but tasted average.<br/><br/>Given it has only been a month since they’ve opened I think these are likely just teething issues but unfortunately we probably won’t be visiting again.

Auckland is not short of all right quality Malaysian restaurants, so our expectations for this place was very high, and the owner must be brave to open another Malaysian restaurant in such a competitive market.<br/><br/>But oh boy! This place is the next level. The fish head noodle soup is hands down The BEST fish head noodle soup in town. The rich, umami soup with perfect amount of pickle cabbages. Generous servings accompanied by the amazing (but super spicy) chillies source. Took me right back to the streets of Ipoh! Husband had the nasi lemak beef rendang. Beautifully cooked coconut rice, beef melt in your mouth, delicious sambal and anchovies. Husband said he prefers more chuncky beef cubes, but I'm much rather having this delicious melt in your mouth beef brisket. One thing we both agreed though, it's delicious!<br/><br/>The owner came and check on the food and REALLY sincerely asked for feedback. She really cares about how customers rate the dishes and really taken the feedbacks on board. This is very important for a business and it's certainly boost our confidence in this place.<br/><br/>With nice little finds like this, we just wanna keep coming back for more. We would recommend anyone to give this place a go and keep this place going!<br/><br/>Oh one thing, can we please have Kopi O on the menu as well please.
Ryan Veniot
I have been away for over a month and have just returned to find IPho open across the street from my place... What a great place!! <br/><br/>Being a fried tofu fan I ordered the THAI FRIED TOFU. Yummm... welcome to flavour country!! <br/><br/>After only having one dish I would recommend to anyone. I certainly look forward to having every item on the menu!!
Tripping Around
Passed by this new restaurant a few times and looked busy which is always a good sign. Gave it a try for lunch today and must say we are glad to have done so and pleased to have a good Malaysian restaurant near to our place now to enjoy food from that country! <br/><br/>They say that the best indication of how good a Malaysian restaurant is to try its char kuey teow and laksa. <br/><br/>We tried the char kuey teow but not the laksa (as yet) as my partner opted to try the mee goreng and wonton noodles & wontons instead.  Dishes came out reasonably promptly after we ordered and first impression is that they are good portions for the price. <br/><br/>Big thumbs up from us on the char kuey teow - as good as the best we have tried anywhere in Auckland. The char flavour is certainly there and unlike other Malaysian restaurants where the dish can come out too greasy or dry or 'wet', this was just right with the right flavor and ingredients. <br/><br/>The wonton noodle & wontons dish was very good too. <br/><br/>The slight let down was the mee goreng which was good too but unlike the kuey teow, was a bit on the wet side so the spiciness was somewhat dampened. <br/><br/>Place is clean and service is friendly & good - keep it up! <br/><br/>We will be back soon to try out the laksa and other dishes!

You wouldn't expect much from a newly opened restaurant but this place looks to be doing ok. It says they are open for breakfast but they weren't open until about 1100 when we went.<br/><br/>They have quite a few tables so once you go in grab a table and you get a menu and water. The soup had a good chicken flavour to it though.<br/><br/>The food here is really nice. Hopefully it will get better with more experience.

We are unfamiliar with Malaysian food and the manager was very accommodating in explaining the menu.  We had yummy combo noodles with egg curd with was really unusual and delish.  The spring rolls were handmade and eaten very quickly by the fam.  The sweet and sour pork was authentic and beautifully cooked.  Great addition to the Upland Road restaurant strip.  Excellent service and packed with Malay families - always a good sign.

Dinner for two at Ipoh tonight as it's only a stone throw away from home and we actually haven't been since it opened about a month ago. We ordered Fish Head Noodles and Chicken Curry Laksa as mains and Otak-otak to share. The main meals are very yummy and are definitely authentic but I was let down by the Otak-otak which was not wrapped in banana leaves and didn't taste or look like the real Otak-otak at all. Also the room was very cold with no heating for customers. There was a guy who asked for it and a gas heater was brought out and turned on but as soon as he left, it was turned off again. I get a feeling this is more of a takeaway outlet than a proper restaurant, as you might get a cold dining in. I'm a Malaysian and would like to support all Malaysian food outlets but sorry I can't give a 5/5 for Ipoh. I think a 4 would be quite generous 🤓<br/>Edited 11/06/19 - visited Ipoh again and this time ordered Char Kuey Teow, Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry sauce. Very yummy and authentic 👍👍👍 ...photos added. Note that they have also improved the heating hence I've changed the rating from 4 to 5 🌟

Foods tasted great. I loved my dish (Wanton Noodles with BBQ Pork and Curry Chicken). Reasonable price at Remuera. Place was clean and staffs was friendly. I will definitely go back again. A+

Came here on a Friday night and left quite disappointed. The restaurant was packed when we walked in, however the staff had seated customers in a very inefficient way (customers with two people were sitting in tables that could accommodate four). We were told by the staff that the wait time would be around 30 minutes, which we should have taken this as a cue to leave, however, some kind customers volunteered to shift to a single table.<br/><br/>Once seated we were left on our own, the wait staff did not give us any explanation that we were to order and pay at the counter and we were not given any menus or glasses of water (which were however, given to customers seated shortly after us).<br/><br/>After a few minutes, we realised we had to order at the front. We ended up ordering wonton noodles with curry chicken (the menu said there was also BBQ pork included in this dish, however this was no where to be seen), a nasi lamak and a curry laksa.<br/><br/>We ended up waiting 30 minutes for our food to arrive, not what you would expect from this kind of restaurant, given the food we ordered should already have been prepared in bulk (curries etc.) and the fact that this isn't some fine dining restaurant. <br/><br/>Around the 25 minute mark we asked the staff when our food would come and were given courtesy prawn crackers (which I note were given to other tables when they came in along with menus). <br/>Food overall was acceptable, however, given that the pricing is on the steeper side for what we were getting, I would much rather pay the same dollars for way better Malaysian in Newmarket.<br/><br/>Service was poor and inconsistent, the wait staff seemed to be biased to certain customers. I know this restaurant is new and they probably need to iron out a few things (notably service), however given first impressions we will not be returning.

Super excited to have a Malaysian local! And was not disappointed, the tofu laksa was as quality as the service, kind people and good atmosphere. Cheers

My first visit at Ipoh was impressive! The service was excellent and the facilities are sparkling clean. Love their signature dish ‘fish head noodle soup” a must have. The freshest fish I’ve had for this dish. I will definitely return.
